Open Question: medicinal marijuana in CA - is it cheaper?

My neighbour's son uses MJ to calm down; without it (she tells me), he can't really function (she said he becomes violent towards her, breaks things, steals things, and doesn't do well in school without it). I asked her if his doctor would write a prescription - she said yes, but in the long run it costs more (doctor has to follow up, etc.) I'm wondering if that's true...I have no idea and I thought I would post to see what others have to say. Other facts: they are on Medi-Cal and she said they would never approve it. Is it cheaper to purchase from a clinic than a "drug dealer"? With a script, what else is involved? Doctor follow-ups, etc.? FYI: serious post here for those in CA, I'm not advocating use of MJ (I don't use it), but I am wondering if she has other options.@ Jillian - I would have thought that the state isn't competing with the "dealers"; as one is legal and the other isn't. So perhaps my neighbour is correct in saying it costs more to have a prescription than to simply buy off the black market? more

Open Question: I have writer's block...what should happen next?

Hello, I have the worst disease a writer can get, writer's block. In my play/movie script I'm writing, a girl living in a small village in a fantasy world, sort of like World of Warcraft, gets sort of attack by an elf girl about her age. The elf is sort of a police officer and she thought the human girl was a criminal she'd been looking for. The human girl is amazed by her quietness and quickness and stuff...this doesn't sound like alot, but it fills up a page when its typed in size 10 font lol what should happen next? The human needs to end up in the elf city somehow, and all of my friends want to be the elf so I need more elf girls XD Thank you in advance ^^This is just something me and my friends wanna act out! i'm not asking for your opinion and please be serious!!! more

Open Question: How can I write the same info to multiple USB flash drives?

My company send out a large packet of info to new customers. The packet can vary by customer type and changes pretty frequently, so this has precluded us sending the info out on CD-ROM as we'd be unlikely to really be able to predict how many we could use of a type, etc. Bulk CD burning equipment is expensive. My idea is to get a simple USB hub, maybe 8 ports or so, and write a little script to allow the users to write to each flash drive according to the "package" needed for that particular customer. My quandary is how to tell which flash drive is which when attached to the hub. The drive letters could jump around a lot. Is there a way using, say, WMI info to tell which drive corresponds to the physical USB port and then present a little dialog to the user to ask which to write to?Naming the volumes is not practical since this will be used to prepare probably ten or more of these a day to be mailed out. I do intend to use either a .bat or a .vbs file but that's a little tough to do if the drive letters could change all the time due to differing volume GUID's. Like I said, especially for VBS, I am looking for a way to query for which drive is at which USB port to create a user dialog to tell them which port they are about to write to. more

Open Question: Monologues From Noel Coward?

Im looking for a monologue from a play by noel coward. My school is holding auditions for Blithe Spirit and I having trouble finding any monologues from Noel Cowards plays. Im 16 and a female. If you can't help please don't bother wasting my time! If you can help me with a comedic female monologue written by NOEL COWARD preferably in the time periods of 1930-1950's! You would be a life saver! Please only Noel Coward and please nothing from Blithe Spirit! more

Open Question: I need help with this problem. I dont really know where to start. (dont worry about the MatLab)?

My youngest son likes a hot shower, and wants to stay in the shower as long as possible. We do not have an on-demand water heater. He is a small boy, so he doesn't need that much water. Resolved Question: When writing a screenplay (feature), is it proper format to summarize insignificant dialog with action lines?

Ex. A brief request to a waiter John Could I have another water? Waiter Sure OR John requests another water from the waiter and the waiter obliges. I prefer the concise nature of the latter format, but I wonder if it is a general rule to ALWAYS put spoken lines into dialog. I understand you don't want anything to be insignificant/mundane in a script, but once in a great while a brief encounter is necessary to set up a sequence of interesting events.Like I said, sometimes it sets up a sequence of events. John receives his water then tosses it in the face of his date. See... funny and interesting, predicated by monotony. The water can't appear from nowhere is what's important. more

Resolved Question: PHP/MYSQL Comment Subscriptions?

Hi, I have some php experience and I try to write a script for my website so I can have the members be able to subscribe to my posts so they get an email when a new comment is posted or their comment is replied to. I have made email form scripts, a simple data base cms and such so I feel like I can take this on ANYHOW... I just don't know where to start really. Can someone point me in the right direction for what php/mysql goes into to heart of this type of system? How is such a thing usually set up?I'm not interested in a plug in, I want to learn, just don't know where to specifically start looking. yes I know you can find the code everywhere, I don't know what I'm looking for though! more

Open Question: Girl in the Green dress... Read, Comment!?

Something I wrote for a local competition, I came 4th! Not to make excuses, but I was in a group with 18 yr olds! I'm just 14... Pulling back the dirt crusted curtains, Ruby watched as the first rays of sunshine tumbled into the room, falling first onto the ugly threadbare carpet, before finally settling on a soft green dress, lying in a mess of crumpled sheets and biscuit crumbs, it glittered softly, as if trying to call the girl to it. Ruby sighed, her back pressed against the wall, watching the dress warily, as if it was something that might jump up at any moment. She sank down to the floor, her bright curly hair, tumbling down from the clasp perched per cautiously on the top of her head. Newspaper articles, pictures and torn notes lay scattered on the floor around her; she reached out a long pale hand extracting a tatty photo attached to a faded newspaper article. With tears in her eyes, she looked at the picture, holding it tight in her hand. A young boy and girl looked smiling out at her, their arms held round each other. Both dressed smartly, him in a striped shirt and tie, whilst she stood, effortlessly beautiful, in a shimmering green dress. Swallowing, she set the picture down next to her. Slowly settling her eyes on the article, feeling felt fresh tears fall down her face; she felt her eyes drawn to the bold headline. 'BOY KILLED IN TRAGIC CAR CRASH'. She choked back sobs, hiding her face in an old fleece blanket, breathing in the familiar scent, trying to calm her trembling body back into submission. Lying under the blanket, her breathing muffled, something stroked her cheek gently wiping away a tear. She froze suddenly, under the familiar touch. "Tristan... she mumbled. TRISTAN! Fighting with the blanket she pulled it off her, she glanced round the room, excitement filling her eyes. Nothing...? She fought back a fresh wave of tears, moving aroud to hide her face, some paper crumpled just beside her. She reached out a pale had, picking the paper up by her finger tips. Breathing deeply, she turned her eyes to the elegant script. 'I love you, Ruby, I'll always love you, girl in the green dress' more

Open Question: Is my Japanese grammar correct?

I have to write a one sided conversation for class (with the exception of the last sentence). We have to write an informal script, "like real people converse". Is this correct? I would like to know from native/fluent speakers please. 1. - - - - - English approximation: 1. I'm sad, sensei. 2. I was watching FIFA world cup this summer with my friends. 3. I was cheering for Germany's team. Germany's team was doing very well. 4. Paul the octopus predicted Germany would lose. He's psychic. Then Germany's team lost. 5. I ended up being teased by the Spanish team's fans. I hope someone eats the octopus. 6: Speakers Response: Maybe Germany will win next time. more

Resolved Question: How to be more expressive and speak better?

I know for a fact that when I write, text, or think. I'm really intellectual [not trying to sound like an ass though by saying that. Simply stating a fact]. But when I try to speak outwardly, or have a simple conversation with the use of my vocal cords I just end up sounding like an idiot. I fail to explain what I think, or to put theories on the table, etc etc. I just sound plain stupid. I haven't had much of a social life I admit, being stuck at home a lot [with reasons]. How should I change this? And if I can't get physically out as often as I would like.. [which is the current case],,, how would I change it in that sense? What can I do? I can think of holding conversations with myself, but that just sounds ridiculous. I could write scripts and read them aloud, talk on the phone to anyone, etc.. the obvious ones come to mind. But is there any other advice that anyone could possibly give? I really wish to stop sounding like such a fool all the time when I actually speak. Because I KNOW I can express myself, what I think, how I think, and what I feel much better. more

Open Question: Help with modRewrite?

I am redirecting my site to a sub-folder "dir1" by setting up an automatic redirection on the hosting control panel: if you go to www.site.com......you get redirected to www.site.com/dir1/index Also, I have an .htaccess file located in the folder "dir1" (folder where site gets redirected) with the following content: RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^/?(index|filename2|filename3)$ index.php?page=$1 [NC,L] RewriteRule ^sitemap.xml$ sitemap.php [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule .? 404.html [L] I don't know much about modRewrite but I've been asking around and managed to put together the above file which works perfectly for my purposes of eliminating the extension ".php" from scripts file names and renaming sitemap.php to sitemap.xml Now, I need to achieve 1 more thing: I want the URLs to be renamed so that the folder name disappears. For example: the URLs: www.site.com/dir1/index www.site.com/dir1/filename2 should be re-written to: www.site.com/index www.site.com/filename2 Is there anything I can do using the .htaccess file that I have? (NOTE: I can't add an .htaccess file in the root directory of the site, I can only edit this .htaccess file located under the folder /dir1 ) Thanks for your advice! more

Open Question: Writing a script to download data from web page?

HELP! I need to get the monthly rainfall totals, the monthly mean max temp, and monthly mean min temp maps for all of Australia for as far back as they go. In order to do this currently, I am faced with downloading over 3000 files manually. Not fun at all. I need some program that would allow me to repeatedly download successive files. I do not know enough about programming and can't do this on my own. The steps I would do manually based on changing the file name are: 1) open up http://www.bom.gov.au/web03/ncc/www/awap/temperature/maxave/month/grid/0.05/history/nat/2010060120100630.grid.Z in browser, 2) press down arrow to get it to "save file", 3) press enter, then 4) replace the last part of the file name with the next appropriate date (i.e /2010050120100531.grid.Z) and repeat the steps. I know there has to be a better way than me manually doing it. Thank you in advance for helping to save me from endless monotony. more

Open Question: How can I read farsi script if there are 3 unwritten vowels, and no marks?

The a, e, and oo marks are what help me understand which sounds to make. But, usually in Farsi they aren't written so its tougher to decipher which of the three it is, and sometimes where they belong in the word. If any fluent native speaker can tell me how I can get around this curve, I'd be thankful. I understand that having a better vocabulary helps in reading the script with the missing vowels, but my vocabulary isn't up to par momentarily... more
