Open Question: Why is my PHP not validating with XAMPP installed?

Open Question: Help creating a central conflict with a basic set of information?

Hi! I want to write a script again, I've written 3. But the past 3 have had a central conflict of being able to film a movie (it's a movie about writing a movie because I figured it would be easiest to write about an actual thing that I'm doing) and a few minor problems which were stupid: teenage drama. "He said she said" kind of stuff. But now I don't want to write about making a movie and I definitely don't want to have the only minor conflict being teenage drama. I have some ideas of my own but wanted to be able to have more ideas to choose from. So, I figured that the Yahoo Answers community could help me out. There's a few catches though, so it's almost one of those deductive reasoning puzzles to figure out. There's 3 boys and 4 girls: Anthony, Jon, Brendan, Amelia, Hayley, Maeve, and Carly. However, any love interest can't be between Jon and anyone else. Anthony and Amelia can't have any flings either. So yeah if you have any ideas for conflicts, problems, or situations please please PLEASE put some below!!! Also, if you have anything funny that could help too.Everyone in the cast is about 15. Not really a comedy, but definitely light with maybe a few touching, sadder parts. more

Open Question: How do I get tested for dyslexia and what will happen in a test? (a bit long but pleeeease help me)?

I study twice as much as my classmates to get the same grades, so they all think I'm just as clever but I have always struggled with these kind of things: Spelling, I have never been able to spell correctly The alphabet- I feel so embarrassed even saying this but I learned to spell phonetically (ah buh cuh duh eh) and I still can only spell words like that, if someone asked me to spell a word I would have to think about it, write it, then read it in my head letter by letter and when I read letters I sound them out phonetically then I have to think about what that would be as a letter (ay bee see dee eee) and say it out individually and it takes ages and is really embarrassing. Reading out loud- I can read in my head and if I read ahead and know the lines and the words I can read aloud all right like a script but if I am put on the spot my reading is so slow, I get mixed up and fragmented on big words with lots of syllables or sounds in them. It's really horrible when teachers put me on the spot to read in school and I always pass when we read as a class because it would take me so long with so many mistakes it’s not worth it. Writing- my handwriting is illegible unless I write in not joined up or spend extra time on it than I usually would. Copying- when I copy I make mistakes, a lot of mistakes. When I copy from the board I cannot do it in time, it takes me forever as I cannot read it and write it and understand it all at once. I miss out on what the teacher is explaining because I cannot listen to him while copying down stuff from the board. Simply writing the words even without understanding them from the board onto my paper takes too much effort and is really hard. Ever since I was really small I copied things out wrong, even on worksheets from one line to the line beneath I’d have copied it down wrong. Slow working- I never completed work, I was always slow, I just can’t do it quickly. I'm 16 now and I have hidden this my whole life. When I was about 8 my friend took a look at a failed spelling test and offhandedly commented that I might be dyslexic like her brother and I looked it up on the net and it sounded like how I was so I asked my teacher and she laughed at me and I felt really awkward and upset by that so I never said anything again. I can't read like normal or spell or copy even simple stuff and I've hidden it for a long time (and I'm pretty smart so hiding is worked) but it's too much for me now, I'm failing my A Levels because I can't do this (the things I wrote above) so I want to find out... What should I do, I want to get tested to find out if it is dyslexia and I'm scared to not know what they're gonna so? Please help me? Thank yous so much.I live in England, UK if that makes a difference. There is a spell check feature on Y!A. I use it out of curtsy to other users who would otherwise have to decyfer (that's coming up with a red line but I don't know the real spelling sorry) my spellings... I have never been able to spell. I end up writing things how they sound.Oh and I can't ask a parent, I only have one and we don't have the kind of relationship where I could say something like this... it's my biggest secret and I always hide my difficulty because I'm ashamed that I don't understand and get stuff all wrong but enoughe is enoughe... if people get better at this kind of stuff I want to to. more

Open Question: I understand objectives and the examples show through acting books but when I try it by myself?

I can never find out what my character's objective actually is!!! How can you find out your characters objective besides the given circumstances? Is there anything else to look out for? Open Question: Insert URL Text into Textarea?

I am creating a small CMS module for a client. I created a little form and when they click Submit, it goes straight out into an include (.inc) file, which is connected to the web page to be displayed. FYI, the spaces in the following are there for posting purposes: The trouble I am having is where I put the capital letters in my script below. I wrote this script so when the user clicks the button, it will insert text. In this case, I will make buttons for tags like < p > and < br >, etc, so those values will get passed and translated into html on the next page. I would also like to be able to make it insert < a href = "http://w w w .examplelink. com" > Link Text </ a>, but it keeps trying to turn it into a real link instead of just printing the text as-is. The code below works perfectly and prints: WANT TO INSERT URL BUT CANT. But I want it to litterally print: < a href = "http://w w w .examplelink. com" > Link Text </ a> (without spaces of course) How can I achieve this? Thanks in advance!! <form method="post" action="process.php"> <script type= "text/javascript"> // myField accepts an object reference, myValue accepts the text string to insert at the cursor function insertatcursor(myField, myValue) { if (document.selection) { myField.focus(); sel = document.selection.createRange(); sel.text = myValue; } else if (myField.selectionStart == 0 || myField.selectionStart == '0') { var startPos = myField.selectionStart; var endPos = myField.selectionEnd; myField.value = myField.value.substring(0,startPos) + myValue + myField.value.substring(endPos, myField.value.length); } else { myField.value += myValue; } } </script> <table width="50%" valign="top" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="1"> <tr> <td width="2%"></td> <td align="center" valign="top"> <textarea id="mytext" name="savecontent" cols="50" rows="10" style="text-align: left; padding: 0px; overflow: auto; border: 3px groove; font-size: 12px"><?=$loadcontent?></textarea></td> <td align="left" valign="top" width="60%"><a href="" onclick="insertatcursor(document. getElementById ('mytext'),'WANT TO INSERT URL BUT CANT'); return false;">Insert Url</a> </td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td align="center" valign="top"><input type="submit" name="save_file" value="SAVE"> </td> <td align="left" valign="top"> </td> </tr> </table> </form>Thanks, Costin - that was actually perfect, but maybe too literal LOL What I am looking for is for there to be a way to pass this: < a href = "http://w w w .example.com " >This Link< /a> into the text area... but the text area then passes this info to a web page, so I want it to come out as a link on the other side. What you gave me makes it print out the actual code on the html page rather than translating it into a link.Crazy! This totally worked perfect: <input name="url" type="button" value="insert url" onclick="insertatcursor(document.getElementById('mytext'), '\x3ca href=\x22http://www.example.com\x22 target=\x22_blank\x22>Link Text\x3c/a\x3e'); return false;"> more

Open Question: Trial help? How does a trial start?

okay, I have an English project due tomorrow. I am seriously desperate. So... uh... I'm the script-writer of our group, and I have no idea how a trial starts and ends. Please help me with the basics (like, what the judge says.. like "order in the court!" and stuff like that and how the trial is adjourned, and if possible, please give me a few lines for the skit. thanks in advance ^^ more

Open Question: Simple Javascript help?

I'm a high school student just trying to learn some scripting while in an html class. My teacher hasn't a clue about javascript so I've been trying to teach myself. I'm trying to write a a script that checks to see if a form has any content, if it doesn't, it'll give an alert saying to fill in the info and if it does just give an alert saying it was submitted. I'm not going to actually write a script for submitting the content and what not because this is just a fake page I'm writing for class. Here are the bits of code I have: <head> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function submitinfo() { if ('document.form.element[0].value==""') { alert('Please provide contact information.'); } else { submitalert(); } } function submitalert() { alert('Information submitted!'); } //--> </script> </head> <body> <p><input name="contact" type="text" size="50"> <input name="submitbutton" type="button" value="Submit" onclick="submitinfo()"> </body> (When I go to submit this, I don't believe it will honor the multiple tabs I've used for organization so it might look a bit messy.) What this does is show the alert that is supposed to be displayed when there isn't anything in the field whether there is or not. I'm pretty sure it should be element[0] because I don't have any other inputs on the page other than the button that follows, just an image and some text prior to it. Any suggestions or help will be appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Ladies...HELP. How can I get my wife to be more active in the bedroom?

The problem is that my wife is a participant in the bedroom, not an activist. What I mean by that is that any crazy idea I bring to the bedroom she's pretty much open to. She's also happy if I bring no ideas to the bedroom. If I just rolled over, did my business, and went to sleep she would be happy with that. She has no imagination, & I have to instruct her to do anything. For example, if I want her to role play, I basically have to write out a script (not joking!). If I want her to wear lingerie or dress sexy I have to specifically instruct her. Her exact words are that's she satisfied with our sex life, so if she does anything special it will just be for me, so just tell her what to do & she'll do it. To me that's like planning our own surprise party. I've given her the names of books & websites to get ideas, but she won't follow up on them. I physically enjoy our sex life, but it is beyond boring. I've had people tell me that maybe she's just submissive; however even submissives can think to light a candle or put on their own lingerie without instructions. more

Open Question: Ive been looking into BASIC stamp and microcontroller kits?

Id like to get into microcontroller programming, as simple as possible, because my current understanding of writing programs is still down to the editing scripts level, but Id like to get a microcontroller kit with book to teach myself how to write code. Ive been looking at the arduino starter kit, and it looks very nice, but I was wondering if it would be easy to start with. Ive got a high level of understanding of electronics and such, its just the software part that trips me up. Having my code directly interface with the world and being able to see my work directly I think will help me understand programming and microcontrollers. If you have any suggestions for someone like me, please post em. I really like how the arduino appears to work, with the input and outputs right there on the starter board, something I can quickly and easily learn to interface with other devices and parts ive salvaged over the years. more

I don't have a problem with math, with scripting, or with anything else involved. However, I haven't been satisfied with the speed of Flash, nor have I felt like the features of Flash were necessary for what I was attempting. So here's the task... 1. Do you recommend C++ for physics simulations with live user input? Do you recommend C++ for graphing, fractals, fields, contours, function analysis, etc.? If not C++, what do you recommend? Maybe Java? I understand that there are different requirements for both tasks - for one, simulations require consistently fast renders, while complex function mapping and fractals could take a minute or more. Would you recommend a junction between two different languages, or an imported engine script, or what? One possible factor is that Java applications can be embedded in a web page, which may be an advantage over C++ alone... but I'm not sure. 2. What should I know before I begin with this new language? As far as C++ is concerned, I can read C++ fairly easily, which means that it won't take me long to learn how to write it. I had a compiler and everything, but maybe not all the libraries I needed. 3. While we're at it, if C++ is the right language, what libraries do you recommend? Are there any good tutorials with these resources included/linked? more

Open Question: Creating a "hot spot" in a flat image?

I need to add a hot spot into a flat image. Is there a script that can be written that tells where on the image is the hot spot and makes it into a link? Or is everyone just having the entire image be the link now? BTW: The only html editor I have is Coffee Cup. more

Open Question: Prescription from multiple doctors...pharmacy problem...Adderall?

I'm 28 and attending a graduate program. During my undergrad studies, I was on adderall (60mg a day), then went off it once I left school. I just moved to the Denver area for my program and realized that I should get back on adderall because it helps me in so many ways....I have ADHD. A month ago, I went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed me adderall.... (30) 10mg. I filled the script at Walgreens. I followed up with him and he really didn’t seem to know much about ADHD, or any other alternatives (the adderall gives me anxiety, buts it really works wonders). I decided to go see another psychiatrist a couple weeks later that specialized in ADHD. He wrote me a script for (30) 20mg of adderall. I filled it at Walgreens again. I’ve seen this new psychiatrist 4 times now, just for psychotherapy, which he also does. I saw him again today and we discussed my dosage of adderall and determined that for me 60mg a day is perfect....no more, no less, so he prescribed me a new script for adderall (90) 20mg. My issue is, when I went to Walgreens to fill this new script, it must have raised a red flag because they said they couldn’t pill the prescription and had apparently had to talk to both doctors that prescribed me adderall, even though I had already filled a script from the same doctor weeks prior. Basically, 2 doctors have prescribed me adderall in the last month so to the pharmacist this must look like I’m doctor shopping, which I’m not. In my experience, when I blindly search for a psychiatrist or therapist, I will get along with some, but others not so good. What’s the deal here with Walgreens: I know there’s a drug monitoring program in place in nearly 30 states, and I’m not shopping for Adderall. I feel great about my life and I’m a guy that pretty much has things put together nicely. I know adderall is a schedule 2 drug, so I understand that aspect, but to have a pharmacist look at me like I’m a druggie is definitely something I’m not used to. Does anyone have any input on this matter? more

Open Question: Javascript Prompt Box problems?

I am doing a project for my web programming class. It contains javascript in the head section. I have entered my variables. It has two prompt boxes that ask for two numbers. My goal is for the numbers to be added, subtracted, multiplied, and divided, and the results put in the page. The instructor wants us to use the document.write command in the head section right under out variables. I am having a huge problem....EVERY TIME i put in a document.write command such as "document.write("The sum of" + First + Second + "is" sum);", ill save, and refresh the page, and i get no prompt boxes....nothing. Here is an example of my code, please help if you know what is going on! <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC '-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN' 'http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd'> <html xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml' xml:lang='en' lang='en'> <head> <!-- Jayson Palmer, 3/10/10 --> <meta http-equiv='Content-Type' content='text/html; charset= utf-8' /> <script type="text/javascript" > <!-- var firstString // First digit string entered by the user var secondString // Second digit entered by the user var first // First converted entry value var second // Second converted entry value firstString = window.prompt ( "Enter a number", "0.0" ); secondString = window.prompt ( "Enter a number", "0.0" ); first = parseFloat ( firstString ); second = parseFloat ( secondString ); var sum = first + second // Sum of first plus second var diff = first - second // Difference of first minus second var product = first * second // Product of first times second var quotient = first / second // Quotient of first divided by second document.write("The sum of" + first + second + "is" sum); //--> </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> By the way, the code works and the prompt boxes appear if i don't use the document.write command, but it is no use to me if I cant enter the results on the page. Please HELP! more

Open Question: can severe anxiety/panic attacks be cured without medication?

i'm constantly anxious as all hell, developed something like agoraphobia (I only go out after taking xanax or getting drunk), really if you go down the list of anxiety symptoms I have them all constantly. the worst is walking around with this horrible fog in my brain. I can't think clearly, I get super emotional, anger problems, very agitated, etc. I've tried 6 different antidepressants now and they've all just been terrible poison. the ones I've taken in the past I don't really know how they work for anxiety because this has all only developed (at least to this extreme level) within the past year. I barely leave my house once a week, and that's only for therapy. I used to be on the go constantly with my ex-girlfriend, partying every weekend, etc, with no problems at all. and then first it started to happen when I'd go to the mall, I'd get a panic attack EVERY time. so I avoided the mall. then it would happen in my ex's car, so I avoided her car most of the time. before long I wasn't able to drive myself, go to any stores, go out drinking, and then eventually I wasn't even safe from it in my own house. I ended up in a short-term mental hospital for a few days back in december, and they forced me to take celexa which didn't help the anxiety and just made me feel completely apathetic to everything. I had gone from crying all day everyday about my breakup to not caring about anything. so I never got the script filled after I was discharged. I've been going to therapy for a couple of months now (hasn't helped at all, I think I need to find a psychologist instead of just seeing a social worker), and they had me try effexor XR, and within two days it made me suicidal. went back to see the doc today and he said he didn't feel comfortable putting me on antidepressants anymore if they had that effect on me, and tried to push bipolar meds. I told him no way, and he just told me to keep taking my xanax and see if the CBT works. in other words he basically did nothing to help me. anyway, I'm hoping that the anxiety is all just in my head and that if I can learn to think differently and just not care about it, that it won't bother me anymore, but the problem is it always seems to be physical symptoms and then they trigger panic attacks because I start to freak out about the way i'm breathing, or how my heart is racing, or the faint feeling in my head, and i'm constantly worrying and have racing thoughts. like I said before, I'm walking around with my head in a cloud, and it's awful. if you asked me how I started everything I've just written, I wouldn't be able to tell you the first sentence without going back up and looking at it. anyway, because it was only $8 and I don't know what else to do, I went and filled the generic celexa script today, but haven't started taking it yet and don't know if I'm going to. even if it could possibly help, I'd like to think I could be a stronger person than someone who has to take antidepressants for the rest of my life because I can't cope with, basically, feeling nervous. so I don't really know what to do. but I'm tired of being confined to my house, miserable, jobless, never going out on weekends anymore, and certainly being miserable over my ex-girlfriend instead of at least trying to meet new girls. anyone have any success without medication? I know people are gonna say things like breathing exercises and meditation, but they just don't work for me. breathing exercises freak me out, and I can't calm myself down enough or stop thinking about all the nonsense that goes through my head long enough to meditate. right now I usually take 0.5mg xanax twice a day, and if I have to go out and drive sometimes it ends up being 1.25mg or 1.5mg by the end of the day (which isn't good cause my script will run out sooner). other than that, I just take B-vitamins and fish oil, they don't seem to make any difference. I also work out on my home gym every other day, and have been trying to use an elliptical on the off days but i'm so out of shape that I don't quite have all that in me yet, i'm easing myself in. also, I've found that when I get drunk (but only when it's on occasion) I don't feel anxious at all (and then when it starts to wear off, or the next morning, I feel about 100x more anxious along with the hangover). I guess that's all there is to say, so please help! anyone have success with CBT for SEVERE anxiety? i'm talking constant feeling of anxiety in general with all the physical symptoms and the b rain fog and then anticipatory panic attacks, along with invariable panic attacks associated with specific events (driving, shopping, etc). more

Open Question: How to skip to end of opened file in Matlab?

I wrote a Matlab script which reads a tab delimited file that is constantly being appended to by an external device using the textread() function. I only need to read the very last line of the file, but the problem is that the file starts to get very large and as a result, takes longer and longer to open/save in Matlab. Is there a way to force Matlab to only read a certain known number of characters in a file, starting from the END of the file, so this doesn't take so long with a very large file? more

Open Question: Whats planet spaceballs like?

Open Question: Can you help me with a title?

I really don't want any help with this script, it's not good writing I know, I just want to know what I should title it. Here are the titles I have thought of that I don't really like in no particular order: 1.) New Drummer Equals Egged Car 2.) Kicked Out, Egged, and Stranded Alternately 3.) Kicked Out, Egged, and Stood Up 4.) Dances and Drummers Roger: I finally got up the nerve to ask the girl of my dreams to the dance tonight and you know what. She said yes! I can hardly believe it! I’m going to the dance tonight! I mean it is a little complicated because she is my best friend’s sister, but he has a drumming gig tonight with his band. Besides, when he finds out about the great time we had he won’t care. [Knock at door. Roger X to UL] [Joe enters and immediately X to C. Paces.] Joe: Hey Roger Roger: Hey Joe, How are you doing? Joe: Terrible, can’t you tell. Roger: What’s going on? [Roger X to center] Joe: Well, you see, you know that show we were supposed to do. Roger: What about it? [Roger sits down] Joe: Well, it didn’t happen. Roger: Oh man, I’m sorry, what happened? Joe: My band broke up, because, well, I got too scared to perform. Roger: That’s a big problem. Joe: I know. Roger: How come you got scared? That’s never happened to you before. Joe: I guess I just developed stage fright! Isn’t that something you can develop after being on stage? Roger: I guess but usually something bad has to happen onstage and the last time the band played I saw you having the time of your life. Joe: Oh, well I wasn’t really too scared to perform. (Beat.) Joe: They kicked me out. Roger: Kicked you out? Joe: Yeah, apparently they have been planning it for awhile. They got a new drummer and everything. I showed up to practice and he was already there. They said they just couldn’t deal with me anymore. Roger: Why not? Joe: I didn’t like the style of music they were playing so I was always yelling at them, or trying to pick up the pace of the music. Roger: Dude, that’s messed up, you want me to help you get them back? Joe: Hey that’s a good idea we could go egg their car! Roger: Whoa, I was just kidding. We can’t egg their car. Joe: Yeah, you’re probably right. I didn’t like the music we were playing anyway. Hey, I actually need to find another band now that they kicked me out, do you want to help me look for one? Roger: Sure! Joe: Cool, so can you come over to my house at around seven to pick me up because I don’t have a car? Roger: Wait a second? Seven? During the dance? Joe: Yeah Roger: Oh, Ok I guess it’s just one dance. Sure I’ll be there. Joe: See you then. [Joe exit stage left] Roger: See you. [Head down] more

Open Question: Automatically change desktop properties on Startup (Windows XP)?

Hello, What I want to do is change the preferences on my school computer so that each time i log in, i don't manually have to change the colour scheme, and the desktop wallpaper. I'm wondering if there is a way to write some sort of script that when executed, will change the font to clear type, will change the color scheme to olive green, and would change the background to whatever i specify in said script. Its not like I cannot currently do this manually, however its that i do it so often, it would be nice to just double click something from my flash drive to automatically do this. Thanks! more

Open Question: Expect runs manually but not in crontab?

I wrote an Expect script in bash to automate static login to a server within my company's network. It runs perfectly when I manually run it but for some reason it doesn't work when I execute it from my crontab. Here is my bash script: #!/usr/bin/expect -f HOST="aaaaa" USER="aaaaa" PASS="aaaaaaa" export TERM="xterm" export SHELL="/bin/bash" export HOME="/usr/bin" VAR=$(expect -c " expect \"\\\\>\" spawn ssh $USER@$HOST expect \"Password:\" send \"$PASS\r\" expect \"\\\\~>\" send \"/usr/bin/touch /home/joem/can_you_see_this\r\" expect \"\\\\~>\" expect -re \"$USER.*\" expect \"\\\\~>\" send \"exit\r\" ") echo "$VAR" echo "" This is my crontab entry: 49 15 * * 1-5 /usr/bin/sh /home/joem/scripts/perl/test_expect.sh >> /home/joem/scripts/perl/cpu_log.txt 2>&1 I notice the script does execute becasue when I do a ps -ef, and grep it. I notice its running but the command never executes on the destination server. Also the process does not end on its own. I have to also manually kill the process. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? more
