Resolved Question: Can someone write a summary of this?
NASA has released the most detailed set of images ever taken of the distant dwarf planet Pluto. The images taken by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope show an icy and dark molasses-colored, mottled world that is undergoing seasonal changes in its surface color and brightness. Pluto has become significantly redder, while its illuminated northern hemisphere is getting brighter. These changes are most likely consequences of surface ices sublimating on the sunlit pole and then refreezing on the other pole as the dwarf planet heads into the next phase of its 248-year-long seasonal cycle. The dramatic change in color apparently took place in a two-year period, from 2000 to 2002. The Hubble images will remain our sharpest view of Pluto until NASA's New Horizons probe is within six months of its Pluto flyby. The Hubble pictures are proving invaluable for picking out the planet's most interesting-looking hemisphere for the New Horizons spacecraft to swoop over when it flies by Pluto in 2015. Though Pluto is arguably one of the public's favorite planetary objects, it is also the hardest of which to get a detailed portrait because the world is small and very far away. Hubble resolves surface variations a few hundred miles across, which are too coarse for understanding surface geology. But in terms of surface color and brightness Hubble reveals a complex-looking and variegated world with white, dark-orange and charcoal-black terrain. The overall color is believed to be a result of ultraviolet radiation from the distant sun breaking up methane that is present on Pluto's surface, leaving behind a dark and red carbon-rich residue. When Hubble pictures taken in 1994 are compared with a new set of images taken in 2002 to 2003, astronomers see evidence that the northern polar region has gotten brighter, while the southern hemisphere has gotten darker. These changes hint at very complex processes affecting the visible surface, and the new data will be used in continued research. The images are allowing planetary astronomers to better interpret more than three decades of Pluto observations from other telescopes, says principal investigator Marc Buie of the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colo. "The Hubble observations are the key to tying together these other diverse constraints on Pluto and showing how it all makes sense by providing a context based on weather and seasonal changes, which opens other new lines of investigation." The Hubble pictures underscore that Pluto is not simply a ball of ice and rock but a dynamic world that undergoes dramatic atmospheric changes. These are driven by seasonal changes that are as much propelled by the planet's 248-year elliptical orbit as its axial tilt, unlike Earth where the tilt alone drives seasons. The seasons are very asymmetric because of Pluto's elliptical orbit. Spring transitions to polar summer quickly in the northern hemisphere because Pluto is moving faster along its orbit when it is closer to the sun. Ground-based observations, taken in 1988 and 2002, show that the mass of the atmosphere doubled over that time. This may be due to warming and sublimating nitrogen ice. The new Hubble images from 2002 to 2003 are giving astronomers essential clues about how the seasons on Pluto work and about the fate of its atmosphere. The images, taken by the Advanced Camera for Surveys, are invaluable to planning the details of the New Horizons flyby in 2015. New Horizons will pass by Pluto so quickly that only one hemisphere will be photographed in the highest possible detail. Particularly noticeable in the Hubble image is a bright spot that has been independently noted to be unusually rich in carbon monoxide frost. It is a prime target for New Horizons. "Everybody is puzzled by this feature," says Buie. New Horizons will get an excellent look at the boundary between this bright feature and a nearby region covered in pitch-black surface material. "The Hubble images will also help New Horizons scientists better calculate the exposure time for each Pluto snapshot, which is important for taking the most detailed pictures possible," says Buie. With no chance for re-exposures, accurate models for the surface of Pluto are essential in preventing pictures that are either under- or overexposed. The Hubble images are a few pixels wide. But through a technique called dithering, multiple, slightly offset pictures can be combined through computer-image processing to synthesize a higher-resolution view than could be seen in a single exposure. "This has taken four years and 20 computers operating continuously and simultaneously to accomplish," says Buie, who developed special algorithms to sharpen the Hubble data. The Hubble research results appear in the March 2010 issue of the Astronomical Journal. Buie's science team members are William Grundy of Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Ariz., and Eliot Young, Leslie Young, and Alan Stern of Southwest Research Institute in moreResolved Question: Does Jupiter have a solid core?
I have found the following information but still I don't know what they say. Does Jupiter have a solid core or fluid core? In the 1940s and 1950s the German American astronomer Rupert Wildt used all the available data to derive a picture of Jupiter that is still generally accepted. He noted that both the low total density and the observed presence of hydrogen-rich compounds in the atmosphere were consistent with a bulk composition similar to that of the Sun and stars. This "cosmic composition" is dominated by the two simplest elements, hydrogen and helium, which together make up nearly 99 percent of all the material in the universe. Wildt hypothesized that the giant planets, because of their large size, had succeeded in retaining this primordial composition, whereas the hydrogen and helium had escaped from the smaller inner planets. He also used his knowledge of the properties of hydrogen and helium to calculate what the interior structure of Jupiter might be like, concluding that the planet is mostly liquid or gas. Wildt suggested that there probably was a core of solid material deep in the interior, but that much of Jupiter is fluid‹extremely viscous and compressed deep below the visible atmosphere, but still not solid. The atmosphere seen from above is just the thin, topmost layer of an ocean of gases thousands of kilometers thick. Pioneer 10, in 1973, and Pioneer 11, in 1974, made the first flybys of Jupiter; both spacecraft survived passage through the asteroid belt and through the Jovian trapped radiation. Among the findings from these spacecraft were the following: * Aside from its polar flattening, Jupiter is very symmetrical and has no gravitational anomalies; it behaves like a liquid planet. The temperature at the center of the planet may be 30,000° C. At the poles, a thick, aerosol-free, or "blue sky," atmosphere was found. moreResolved Question: WE ARE HERE <arrow points to tiny speck in space> and ...?

Did 12 people walk on the moon between 1969 and 1972? I homeschool my children...we are learning about the 50's, 60's, and 70's right now. Why have I never heard of these other moon landings? I have never read about them in any books nor seen any other pictures other than from the very first landing. My children have seen several documentaries in the past about how the moon landing is supposed to have been a hoax and now think that this part of our history is a joke. How can I convince them otherwise when I (nor my husband who is a history buff) have never even heard of these other landings? Did you know about these? Here's what I found: All the 6 manned moon landings: •Apollo 11 - landed 20 July, 1969 •Apollo 12 - landed 19 November, 1969 •Apollo 14 - landed 5 February, 1971 •Apollo 15 - landed 30 July, 1971 •Apollo 16 - landed 20 April, 1972 •Apollo 17 - landed 11 December, 1972 Who Walked on the Moon? In each case, a 3-man crew was sent to the moon: 2 astronauts actually landed on the moon, whereas No. 3 remained on the mother ship as it continued to orbit around the moon. All in all, 12 people have landed on the moon, as per the information below: Apollo 11 - Neil Armstrong (of "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" fame); Buzz Aldrin Apollo 12 - Pete Conrad; Alan Bean Apollo 13 - is famous for not getting there and the heroic efforts needed to save the crew. Apollo 14 - Alan Shepard; Edgar Mitchell Apollo 15 - David Scott; James Irwin Apollo 16 - John W. Young; Charles Duke Apollo 17 - Eugene Cernan; Harrison Schmitt In the United States space program, SIX Apollo missions took astronauts to the lunar surface and back. Apollo 11 was the first, reaching the moon on July 20, 1969. Later successful missions were Apollo 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17, the last being over 35 years ago (December 1972). 12 men have walked on the moon. Is it just saying that the moon is hot and cold?
The shadowy craters near the south pole of the Moon may be the coldest places in the solar system, colder than even Pluto, NASA scientists reported Thursday as they unveiled some of the first findings from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft. “We’re looking at the Moon with new eyes,” said Richard Vondrak, the mission’s project scientist. The orbiter, launched in June, officially began its one-year mission to map the Moon’s surface this week. But during three months of turning on, testing and calibration of its seven instruments, it had already begun returning data. Notably, its camera captured pictures of the Apollo landing sites, including some of the tracks that the astronauts left on the surface. In the newly released data, thermal measurements showed that daytime temperatures over much of the surface reached 220 degrees Fahrenheit — hotter than boiling water — before plummeting to frigidness at night. But the bottoms of the craters, which lie in permanent darkness, never warm above minus 400. Those ultra cold temperatures have trapped and held deposits of ice for several billion years. The ice could prove a valuable resource to future explorers, not only as drinking water but also, when the water molecules are broken apart, hydrogen and oxygen. If it exists, the ice could also hold a detailed historical record of past comet impacts on the Moon, which would provide new hints of the early conditions in the solar system. A second instrument detected slow-moving neutrons, which indicate the presence of hydrogen in the Polar Regions. The hydrogen is most likely in the form of water, and that data support the findings of the Lunar Prospector spacecraft a decade ago. In a twist, the reconnaissance orbiter found hydrogen not only in some craters but also in some areas outside of the craters. Also, some of the craters did not appear to have hydrogen. That means the water — or some other hydrogen-containing molecule like methane — lies beneath the surface. “It would be very durable there,” Dr. Vondrak said. “What we don’t know is the abundance and how deep it is buried." Getting to the material at the bottom of the craters could be difficult. An instrument that maps the topography by bouncing a laser beam off the surface has found the sides of the craters to be steep and rough terrain. The primary mission of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, gathering data on the Moon from an altitude of 31 miles to prepare for the return on astronauts, will continue for a year. After that, it will continue to operate to gather information for scientists.thank you very much :)) moreResolved Question: What do you think of my diction question it is about viking 1 and 2~for class?
On August 20, 1975 NASA launched Viking 1 into space in hopes of reaching the surface of Mars. This was one of a two identical spacecraft that had the purpose of successfully taking pictures, conducting biological experiments on the soil and atmosphere, and then returning that data back to Earth. The second, identical spacecraft, was shot off September 9, 1975.(1) The two orbited the planet looking for the perfect place to land. Vikings1 &2 were identical spacecrafts each consisting of an orbiter and a lander. The lander was to break away from the orbiter and land on the surface. It would then take pictures and conduct experiments on the soil.(2) It would then transmit the images and data back to the orbiter. The orbiter also had the job of transmitting all the information back to NASA. The firs images were transmitted 25 seconds after the shuttle landed. (2) The Viking shuttles, also conducted experiments to look for signs of life. Although The two landed successfully in different locations on the planet. Here they would stay transmitting images for seven years. They transmitted over 1400 images of the surface. They unsuccessful in finding traces of life on the red planet, but gave valuable information about the physical and atmospheric conditions on the surface.(3) Sources: 1. http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/viking.html 2. http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/masterCatalog.do?sc=1975-075C 3. http://pds.jpl.nasa.gov/planets/welcome/viking.htm moreResolved Question: If our Hubble Telescope get a picture of Extra Terrestrial Space Craft?

How would it changed how our opinion to Extra Terrestrial live? Does an Alien contact benefit us? And if the picture from Hubble Telescope showing us that Alien spacecraft could obliterated an asteroid and triggering supernova, seeing how mighty and advanced they're, are we human feel fear and try not bother them, or do we still persistent trying to contact them to come to our solar system? Do this event change our course in the future, would it make us realize how puny Humankind is, stop the conflict and unite try to join the society of Universe? moreVoting Question: Why can't they insert the New Horizons spacecraft into Pluto's orbit?
Seriously, instead of wondering what to do with it after it passes into the Kuiper belt, why can't they just put it in orbit around Pluto so it can fully map out and examine Pluto and Charon. The current plan is to have it fly by, which up until 70 days prior to the fly by it won't be able to take higher res pictures than the Hubble, and it will eventually only be able to take pictures of one side of the planet and come sufficiently close to it for any real mapping like the MRO or LRO do for only a few hours. The spacecraft won't reach Pluto until 2015 and so we have to wait all this time to only get a glimpse of the planet... Put it in orbit so we can get videos, detailed maps of both Pluto and Charon, etc. It's dumb isn't it? They have enough fuel to put it in orbit, but they've decided not to do that and instead use the remaining fuel to chase after asteroids in the Kuiper belt nobody cares about, and they don't even know yet if it'll will be able to find any remotely interesting ones. Or why didn't they just give it enough fuel so it can be inserted into orbit for a few months and then have it escape into the Kuiper belt to chase after those asteroids. It takes nearly 10 years for anything we launch from Earth to reach Pluto, so maybe make it worth it? It's actually not NASA's fault, it's Congress's for not giving them enough money. moreResolved Question: Would the beginning make you want to read on?
This is the opening section of my new novel. Would it make you want to read on? Contact me if you're interested, please; and thanks for your comments. It is common knowledge throughout all of the known parts of the Universe that have sentient life that the people of the little wet planet known as Earth are the only race that have never been formally introduced to members of any other race from any other planet. Why this should be is largely unknown, and no-one recently has ever really concerned themselves too much with finding out why. The whole ‘getting to know you’ thing hasn’t been an issue for a very long time, actually – considering that no-one is really allowed onto the planet without special permission anyway, and, well; people quite simply have their own important intergalactic stuff to be getting on with. And besides, one of the few things that is widely known about Earthlings is that they are regarded – albeit with a high degree of condescension - as being a bit thick. The feeling would seem to be that they really should have mastered the whole space travel gig by now, but their interest in it waned pretty quickly after bringing home a few rock samples from their moon and taking some pictures. If all they could do since then is mess about in space stations, put a ridiculously excessive number of satellites into orbit and send out the occasional unmanned probe, then why should anyone really bother with them? There are occasional unofficial visitors to the planet, of course; mostly the curious few who just want to tell their pals that they sneaked in, bought a Star Trek officer’s uniform and a Stargate SG1 box-set of dvds and got away without being detected; and idiot ‘daddy’s-boy’ pilots who carelessly veer off course and get pulled into the planet’s atmosphere because they are not properly qualified as pilots in the first place and really shouldn’t be flying such obscenely expensive spacecraft either. They are the types who lose control and crash-land late at night in some remote forest near the only farmhouse for miles around and who are quite literally too stupid to operate whatever brand of failsafe cloaking device that is installed on their craft “because it uses up too much reserve energy”. Subsequently, Little Johnny - the son of the couple who live in the nearby farmhouse – sees the light in the distance, goes through the woods to investigate and, just as the auto-repair on the craft finishes doing its thing, he spots it disappearing up into the sky, setting him up for a lifetime of undeserved dysfunction and unsuccessful therapy… …and there are people from Earth out there also. Abductions really do take place, just like some people suspect – it’s just something that no-one on Earth ever seems to be able to prove. People are taken for various reasons, most of which are quite unjustifiable and highly illegal; sometimes even for their own safety; but mostly for no obvious reason at all. This brings us conveniently to Dee Johnsson, a thirty-six year-old computer repair guy originally from Sweden who had, up until recently, been living somewhere in the northern part of Ireland; and who was now currently residing some eighty-six light years from there. But more about him shortly. Another thing that is common knowledge is that the concept of home prevails throughout every known species in the Universe that is capable of abstract thought. It may be cherished, despised, protected, abandoned or just plain taken for granted, but it does link everyone – like a kind of universal, though incredibly flexible, glue. When it enriches the experience of life it is beneficial beyond any expression in words; and when it is bad, it will torture without any mercy or remorse and will damage – sometimes – beyond repair. If it is something that is loved dearly and cannot be returned to, the loss of it will be felt like an amputation. So, just a short while ago, when this Dee Johnsson guy from somewhere in the northern part of Ireland gradually realised just how far he really was from home, the shock of it completely knocked him for what was probably a multiple of six, never mind just six. It all began as he was sitting in that wonderfully warm and cosy little upstairs room in his house; trousers crumpled around his ankles, getting increasingly red-faced about the last thing he would leave behind him on Earth; and continued as he suddenly materialised inside a strange clear plastic and metal container-type thing, with four odd-looking little green men looking up at him in what can only be described – if using the appropriate Earth term - as utter bewilderment. Indeed, few human beings have ever experienced such a shock. Even to be able to accept that such a thing really could happen would, arguably, require a specific level of thinking. Fortunately for Dee, all of the wonderfully mind-expanding drugs he had experimented with when he was a very naughty teenager in his native country had allowed him aThanks for commenting, people. I also mentioned the mythbusters show that, showed them reproducing that type of gravity re: 1/6th & yet all the personnel are holding on to the plane & one of the mythbuster's team walks in a space suit, yet on the left of the screen on the show a item clearly moves around with no force applied to it, if it was secured to the floor, why does it move. also to produce 1/6th gravity you have to go through a certain g force's before you get 0 gravity or 1/6th of the earths gravity, I believe that we landed on the moon, but not on Apollo 11, I have visited NASA.gov site & the photos show men in space suit's that are from the space shuttle & not the suit's the had in 1968/69, even the flight's in the SR-71 are the same as moon landing's, & how much do they weigh, to keep the astronaut's on the surface of the moon, also the fist live pictures were from a camera on the moon's surface pointing to the module so someone had to put it there first, I am not talking about the camera outside the module, it only could look at a 360 deg view on top of the module, not on the moon's surface. Please explain that issue. Also it;s easy to tell stories after the fact, but look at all the stories the world have been told, yet in the future they are proved incorrect. re: Nicola Tesla for example. Also why cant we get blueprint's of Apollo 11 spacecraft & other items like the hubble etc. via the net even by direct request. moreResolved Question: why do people hate nasa so much? when it gets a about HALF PERCENT of our country's budget?
NASA has done so much for America..sure it "wastes" a half percent of our total budget especially when it "wasted" funds I found this somewhere) Since 1976, about 1,400 documented NASA inventions have benefited U.S. industry, improved the quality of life and created jobs for Americans. The Apollo program has helped change the way of life in America, especially in health care. Here are some of the inventions contributed by the Apollo program. Kidney dialysis machines were developed as a result of a NASA developed chemical process that could remove toxic waste from used dialysis fluid. As a medical CAT scanner searches the human body for tumors or other abnormalities, the industrial version, or advanced computed tomography inspection system, finds imperfections in aerospace structures and components, such as castings, rocket motors and nozzles. A cardiovascular conditioner developed for astronauts in space led to the development of a physical therapy and athletic development machine used by football teams, sports clinics and medical rehabilitation centers. A hospital food service system employs a cook/chill concept for serving food. The system allows staff to prepare food well in advance, maintain heat, visual appeal and nutritional value while reducing operating costs. Athletic shoe design and manufacture also benefited from Apollo. Space suit technology is incorporated into a shoe's external shell. A stress free "blow molding" process adapted from NASA space suit design is also used in the shoe's manufacture. Freeze-dried food solved the problem of what to feed an astronaut on the long-duration Apollo missions. Insulation barriers made of aluminum foil laid over a core of propylene or mylar, which protected astronauts and their spacecraft's delicate instruments from radiation, is used to protect cars and trucks and dampen engine and exhaust noise. Water purification technology used on the Apollo spacecraft is now employed in several spinoff applications to kill bacteria, viruses and algae in community water supply systems and cooling towers. Filters mounted on faucets can reduce lead in water supplies. Process for bonding dry lubricant to space metals led to the development of surface enhancement coatings, which are used in applications from pizza making to laser manufacture. Each coating is designed to protect specific metal group or group of metals to solve problems encountered under operating conditions. Digital signal-processing techniques, originally developed to enhance pictures of the Moon for the Apollo Program, are an indispensable part of Computer-Aided Tomography (CAT) scan & Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologies used today worldwide. Vacuum metallizing techniques led to an extensive line of commercial products, from insulated outer garments to packaging for foods & from reflective blankets to photographic reflectors. Cordless power tools & appliances are one of the most successful commercial spin-offs of space-based technology. Cool suits, which kept Apollo astronauts comfortable during moon walks, are today worn by race car drivers, hazardous area workers, & people with specific health problems. A hollow retroreflector, a mirror-like instrument that reflects light & other radiation back to the source, is used as a sensor to detect the presence of hazardous gases in oil development, chemical plants, waste storage sites & locations where gases could be released into the environment. TV Satellite Dish NASA developed ways to correct errors in the signals coming from the spacecraft. This technology is used to reduce noise (that is, messed up picture or sound) in TV signals coming from satellites. Medical Imaging NASA developed ways to process signals from spacecraft to produce clearer images. (See more on digital information and how spacecraft send images from space.) This technology also makes possible these photo-like images of our insides. Vision Screening System Uses techniques developed for processing space pictures to examine eyes of children and find out quickly if they have any vision problems. The child doesn't have to say a word! Ear Thermometer Instead of measuring temperature using a column of mercury (which expands as it heats up), this thermometer has a lens like a camera and detects infrared energy, which we feel as heat. The warmer something is (like your body), the more infrared energy it puts out. This technology was originally developed to detect the birth of stars. Fire Fighter Equipment Fire fighters wear suits made of fire resistant fabric developed for use in space suits. Smoke Detector First used in the Earth orbiting space station called Skylab (launched back in 1973) to help detect any toxic vapors. Now used in most homes and other buildings to warn people of fire. A spacecraft traveling faster than the speed of light, such as the fictional ones in the "Star Trek" moving pictures and five television series, could see celestial bodies that light was already shining on,or bodies that were emitting light of their own, but, even if it had some kind of "headlight", it could not see celestial bodies in deep space, like rogue planets or asteroids too far away from any stars or planets to be illuminated in any way at all. And, even if it had some kind of "headlight", it would travel faster than the light it was shining from the headlight. Any type of radar wouldn't help, either, because those waves certainly don't travel at faster than light speed. So, how would a vessel traveling faster than light speed possibly be ensured to avoid colliding with anything? moreResolved Question: What are your thoughts on UFO's?
I spend a majority of my time on the internet researching and debunking UFO's. Most of the videos and pictures I see can be explained but others cannot. If more people were willing to find logical explanations instead of thinking every video or picture was an alien spacecraft then I think that the majority of people might take this field more seriously. What do you think? Any theories that make sense to you? This is a hobby of mine not a job(although that would be awesome!) I have seen what could have been a UFO once and I could not identify it. I saw it during the day time and had somewhat of a clear view even though it was very high in the sky. It was red and cigar shaped and at first I thought it was a plane but it was rotating longways as it moved. One possible explanation would be a bunch of balloons attached to a plank and the wind was causing it to rotate but I can think of no reason why someone would put that up there. I didn't have my camera with me so I have no proof and that makes this just another story but I saw something in the sky. moreResolved Question: please answer my 1990's questions?

Funny Paper I just wrote for my Advanced Comp class..?
*Disclosure: The writer can not be held responsible for the outcome of following these instructions because he has no knowledge of the subject and is completely full of crap. Although the concept of constructing a homemade spaceship may initially seem difficult and overwhelming, the process is really quite easy to follow. In the words of Sherlock Holmes, "Watson, it's really quite elementary." Before attempting to build the craft, you need to procure all of the necessary materials. The next step in the process, after you have everything you need, is to draw up the schematics so that you have a plan to follow. Once your plans are complete, you can begin to build the ship's interior frame. At this point, you must cover the fuselage with a protective skin. Now that the plane itself is finished, the final step is to install the rocket boosters. Pay close attention as I describe these steps more precisely, because only if they are followed properly will you have a spacecraft capable of flight. As any experienced rocket scientist will tell you, building a good spaceship begins with using quality materials. Unfortunately, however, these materials are not available at the same location. Despite this inconvenience, they can usually be obtained by making as few as three stops. Elmer's glue and Duct tape can be easily obtained, for minimal cost, in the craft department at your local Wal-Mart. These two ingredients are an essential part of the building process. They are used to bond the parts of the craft together. The next place you will have to go is the nearest dump. This is usually the cheapest location to procure the cardboard boxes and wood you will need. At least 1,000 refrigerator-sized cardboard boxes and several thousand 2x4s will be necessary to properly construct the fuselage . It is now finally time to find the last two parts you will need. Unless you happen to have 100 tons of high-grade rocket fuel and rocket boosters sitting around in your garage, you will need to use the Internet to find them. The best place to find these materials on-line is the Soviet Cold War Recyclables Auction House. Due to recent oversight by the Department of Homeland Security, I am unable to relay to you the web address for SCWRAH. Don't let this stop you though. A quick visit to Google should help you find what you need. Be careful when you're waiting for the delivery because the box is usually labeled as "Sneakers," and you don't want your mom to discover your rocket fuel sitting on the front porch. You'll also need a ruler and something to write with. Other things you may need: a utility knife, a hammer, and several hundred boxes of nails. Now that you have everything in one spot, you are ready to build your ship. In order to begin construction, you must first know what the heck you're going to build. If you don't know what a space shuttle looks like, you can find a picture on-line or at a nearby library. This step is the easiest one in the process. All that you need to do is draw a quick sketch of your ship using a ruler and some crayons. Be creative! Always remember one thing: This isn't rocket science! If you want, you can even draw a little cosmonaut in the corner for fun. When your sketch is finished, you are ready to start construction. Begin by laying out your 2x4s in the shape of the ship you drew. It's not important if it looks exactly like the sketch. It doesn't need to be perfect. When you have the boards laid out the way you want them, it's time to connect them using the Elmer's glue and Duct tape you bought earlier. Simply add a bit of the glue anywhere the 2x4s touch each other and wait for it to dry. When the glue has hardened, wrap the tape around it for added support. When this step is completed, you must cover the frame to protect it from thing damaging effects of space travel. To produce the external cover, you must use your utility knife to cut the cardboard into smaller pieces to fit onto the frame. If a section is too large for one piece of cardboard, simply use your Duct tape to tape several pieces together. When the sections are cut appropriately, the time has come to attach them to the frame. Simply use the hammer to pound some nails through the cardboard and into the wooden planks that make up the frame. If, when your shell is complete, the craft is wobbly or at all unstable, simply add extra nails. Like I always say: When in doubt, use more nails. Your fuselage is now complete, but a spaceship without rockets is like a car without a motor. Let's move on to the final step. It's time to add the boosters. You must be extra careful removing the rocket boosters from the packaging they arrived in, as they are usually already filled with fuel. If the Soviets sent you extra fuel, it is most likely in several hundred milk jugs. It is very important that before you begin attaching the boosters, you properly store the fuel tanks. If you have a large enough back yard, simply bury moreResolved Question: How is Pioneer 10(Nasa) able to send back pictures of Jupiter in 1972? Thanks :)?

It saves money because the spacecraft uses atmospheric drag to slow down rather than needing to carry enough fuel to slow by firing rocket engines. If someone travels in space near the speed of light, they age a lot less than someone on Earth. Most people already know this. It's very interesting when you think hard about it. I know it would get boring traveling around in space while you're speeding up time, or traveling to alpha centauri, but think about it, who gets to do stuff like that??? NO ONE!! I would take the opportunity without a second thought. So i was wondering, if a space craft capable of traveling the speed of light without tearing your body in two, and had a built in GPS ( and when i say GPS here i mean Galactic Positioning System, not Global Positioning System, hehe, just something i thought of in my head ) in it, so you don't get lost in the Galaxy and can find your way back to Earth if you wanted to, what would you do with it? There's many possiblities, you can sell it to the government and be a billionaire...or they might just come to your house, bonk you over the head and then steal it lol, i dunno, that's why I'm asking all of you what you would do. Or you can use it yourself. Personally if one appeared in my garage I would use it all to myself. I would open my garage door, hop in, buckle up, and I would be out of my garage and in space in less than a second, so no one will even notice my spacecraft leaving. Once in space i would play with time, i would just keep circling around Earth to speed up Earth time and then i would go into Earth's atmosphere and look at all the changes in the world. Who knows what you'll see. Maybe a futuristic successful civilization, a planet filled with slaves ruled under a dictatorship, a planet in complete and total war, or maybe everyone's dead from some past disaster, so first i would just speed up time and keep looking at the Earth as it ages before my eyes, then when i get bored of that, or if everyone kills each other, i would visit all of the planets in the solar system, which you can easily do in 1 day when you can travel at the speed of light. Then i would take a 4.5 year trip to alpha centauri to see a solar system no one has ever seen or taken pictures of before, and maybe find an intelligent civilization there. Oh, and the space craft has a cloaking device, so no one can see you, not even satellites, so you don't need to worry about anyone spotting you as you visit Earth or go sight seeing at the different planets. Would you sell it to be a billionaire, (or probably wake up with a bump on your head and the craft stolen) or would you take it into space yourself and do as i would) of course we're all fans of astronomy here, so i'm sure everyone here would take it into space. The craft also has unlimited oxygen, and food. moreResolved Question: The ESA Spacecraft is going "too fast" to transmit pictures of Asteroid Stein?

Whenever we see pictures of Mars it's always the same long red horizon with little to break up the scenery. What I'm wondering, do we know if Mars may have different areas like Earth. For example, on Earth we have forests, deserts, plains of grass etc. Now I know Mars doesn't have these, but I wonder if it is similar in having unique regions that maybe we can't see or don't understand. When the scientists talk about the oxidizing salt they found, aren't they talking about all their research being within a foot or so of the spacecraft? That's not much area! Same with the rovers. Haven't they traveled like a few hundred feet or so? On Earth, that would be like looking in someone's small yard, but missing everything around it! moreResolved Question: I need helping starting a story!!!

I vaguely remember watching this movie series growing up in the 90's. All I can remember is that it was about this crew on a spaceship with a kid as the main character (sort of like Flash Gordon for kids). The crew went around to different places where they had to face obstacles, including being captured by a bunch of giants (maybe cyclopes?) when their spacecraft was mistaken for a toy belonging to the toddler giant. There was a main villain, but in a huge twist at the end he saves the main character's life by preventing him from falling off a cliff and it is revealed that the leader of the boy's crew is the true villain. The whole series was only about 5 or 6 movies, and from what I remember they were probably low budget and very cheesy. Each movie was on VHS and had a picture of the main obstacle facing the crew in that particular movie (including the giant toddler for the one movie) and individual pictures of the characters and the villain. Sorry, but that's all I remember. moreResolved Question: Why doesn't NASA just point a telescope at the moon and photograph the lunar lander legs to disprove naysayers
Naysayers frequently claim that the moon landings were done on a Hollywood sound stage and that nobody from Earth has ever been to the moon. I don't believe this for a second - it's just a conspiracy theory in my opinion. I wonder, though, why haven't any of the world's space organizations turned one of their orbital telescopes at the moon and snapped a picture of the landing sites of the Apollo spacecraft? From what I remember from science class, the lunar landers all left their "legs" behind when they blasted off - AND there's the moon rover still down there someplace. If Google can buy pictures of the earth that are clear enough to identify a park bench or a pedestrian on the street from orbital photography companies, why can't we get some pictures of the landing sites and put this thing to rest? Again - naysayers won't be much impressed, but I sure would be! moreResolved Question: phoenix mission?
