Voting Question: Why are images/videos from space probes and satellites bad quality?

When I say 'bad' I don't mean like terrible... but they aren't as crystal clear as some of the images we have of Earth? Probes such as New Horizons have been passed Saturn so why can't they get some good quality snap shots of them on the way past. I understand that these planets are alot further away from Earth, but I don't see why distance make any difference to the quality of picture? more

Okay, i've been really interested in Astronomy for ages, but i realized im missing out so much without a telescope. I know there are pictures and i have a monthly magazine, but seeing it in real is completely different. The only thing i've seen apart from the Moon is Saturn. Ever since i really wanted a telescope. Any help please? I live in the Uk. I want to nebula's and the planets. I have a budget of £1,000. Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: Atheists: No god is my belief, but for lack of a better word I consider myself very "spiritual," Are you?

I am fascinated with space, and I find it amazing and inspirational. This is an actual picture of the eclipse of Saturn. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap061016.html If you look close to the left, you get a tiny little peek of Earth from between the rings. Carl Sagan said, "The sky calls to us. If we do not destroy ourselves we will one day venture to the stars... The surface of the earth is the shore of the cosmic ocean. Recently we've waded a little way out and the water seems inviting" I don't want to be limited to this planet and the small insignificance of our beliefs, I wanna know uninhibited what, where, how, and why. "Who and When" seem somewhat irrelivent to me, and I can't explain why. I think this makes me a spiritual person. How are you a "spiritual" person?I am amazed at how fake it looks too. Sometimes truth defies reason. Sometimes truth is so amazing it seems impossible, so we put God there to comfort ourselves.I respect that very much Justin, courage is standing up for your beliefs even if you stand alone.Yes it is a real photo taken by one of the satelites orbiting saturn, the image is from the NASA website. more

Resolved Question: The Study Of Universe ? planets , other galaxy ?

okay im really into planets and galaxies and other astronomic things so i would like to know the answers of these questions : 1) the universe : is it like earth , a sphere where it never ends 2) more than one universe : like the universe full of galaxy maybe there's something else that is full of universes 3) mars : can there be life on it 4) moon : i heard a lot about aliens on moon ? is it true ? 5) can we go out from the earth atmosphere , without getting melted ? so all these pictures of mars and othere galaxies are lies ? is it true if we know the stars patterns we can figure out the future ? and the last is Saturn so light that it can float on water ? thanks-venomix more

Voting Question: Why can't Satellite's in space take high-quality pictures or video of planets?

What is stopping NASA from taking high-quality video or taking pictures of other planets in our solar system? Why couldn't you just send a digital video camera up there around Jupiter or Saturn and transmit the video signal back here? surly it wouldn't take that long for the signal to get back to Earth. Even if it took awhile wouldnt it be worth it if everyone got to see Jupiter or Saturn or Uranus in high def more

Resolved Question: Me and 3 friends are driving route 66 in june and want to know what is the best car to hire?

We are looking for the car with the most luggage space, mpg, and comfort. The cars on offer to us are a Dodge Charger, Chevrolet Cobalt/Monte Carlo/Impala, Chrysler Sebring, Saturn Vue, Pontiac G6 and a Chrysler 300 Tourer. As we are all British we have no idea what any of these cars are like! I have seen pictures but would appreciate some first hand knowledge. The Chrysler 300 looks very luxurious but would that make it a target for car jackers/thieves? Any views would be much appreciated. more

Resolved Question: Buying the first car, need some advice.?

I met up with someone who wanted to sell their 93 saturn sc. Its a 4 cylinder which means great on gas! It's in ok shape body wise but I'm not so sure otherwise. Mechanically its been worked on my different people and the mileage is unknown. When we took it for a drive, it seemed...alright but sort of iffy. On the other hand, I have the opportunity to meet with someone who has a 95 ford thunderbird. She says it runs perfectly but has a front suspension problem (ball joint). Besides that the body looks good in the picture. It is a V8 though, which means it will suck down gas. It does however only have 85000 miles which is great for only $1200 (which is what she wants for it). My gut feeling, although I haven't seen it in person yet, is to get the thunderbird but I can't make up my mind. Any suggestions to which one I should buy? more

Voting Question: Strange behavior from Aries - need advice how to proceed?

Recycling this question as last time I got two contradictory answers. I'm dealing this belligerent Aries and not sure how to proceed. Need advice from somebody who dealt with this kind of behavior from them before :) Here is the story: In public it is like he is bent on giving me a hard time. Sometimes he directly confronts me about my actions to point out how I was out of line. If I am having a discussion with somebody else he would nitpick my argumens to try to turn them against me. He would also belittle the issues I raise and say they do not matter or that I fail to see the big picture, stuff like that. One time when I picked up the argument he said that sometimes he thinks I just love arguing with him. I was like "huh?". In reality I feel like I constantly have to defend myself being involved in some battle the purpose and goal of which I do not understand. Then off public he'd write notes to me saying how he is sorry, that he didn't mean to be so brash. One time after another particularly aggressive attack, he brought an item over that was incidentally related to my hobby. He said it was up for grabs in front of several people. I took it of course, but felt like it was some kind of "don't be angry at me, oh and this is not a gift" gift. I've also noted a weird trend of him bringing up activities I am interested in in a conversation and asserting his own interest in the same thing. For example, suddenly I find out that he watches aerial skiing too. Somehow he knows I listen to a relatively unknown band that I never told him or any of his acquaintances about. He read all of its lyrics and quoted them back to me. I am not sure if this is also his weird way of making up, demonstrating that we have similar interests. But after apologies he goes back to saying the same hurtful things, so now I am really doubting his sincerity. I typically try to counter him diplomatically without being mean, use cool logic and try not to incite any further emotions in him. 98% of time I find having to restrain myself, but a few times I gave in and hurt him back. Last time I did it back to him in public he disappeared for a week, then came back and then tried attacking the project he thought I really invested my heart and mind into. But missed, so all he got was yet another nice diplomatic response. Meanwhile I assessed what I had done and I felt guilty for being so cruel to him that time. I really don't like being mean to other people. Unfortunately as time goes and his behavior remains unchanged something inside me tells me that I'd have much more fun not restraining myself any longer but turning it into full-fledged war. I know where it hurts him and can potentially do a lot of damage. It is like he is really bent on digging up all the dirt in my soul/karma whatever. What's stopping me is that I feel if I give in and start a war, we both lose. But at the same he continues behaving in his belligerent manner towards me and rejecting peace. Welp. My signs are: Sun-Cancer, Moon-Scorpio, Mercury-Leo, Mars-Cancer, Venus-Virgo, Jupiter Uranus Neptune all in Sagittarius, Saturn-Libra, Sag rising, north node-Gemini His signs: Sun-Aries, Moon-Sagittarius, Mercury-Aries, Mars-Gemini, Venus-Pisces, Jupiter-Pisces, Saturn-Gemini, Uranus-Libra, Neptune-Sag, north node-Sag So what's wrong with this Aries and how can I get him off my back?co-worker and he's over 30 more

Resolved Question: I have a 1997 Saturn SL2 5-speed. When I put it in gear it won't move. More details in section below.?

I was making a left hand turn and kind of clutched hard into first gear to beat out the traffic coming up the road. In the middle of the turn the car stopped accelerating and the engine would only just rev while in gear. I was later able to check the shift linkage when somebody came to pick me up (I originally thought the linkage between either the clutch or the shifter had broken. However, upon inspection, the shifter linkage seem to be moving properly as it was moved through the different gears. When the car is parked, if the car is put into first gear and the clutch is let out, the car just idles, when it should stall without pressing the accelerator. I personally the the the clutch is shot, but I swear I heard something go underneath the car and smack the underside toward the back when this happened. As always, any advice is greatly appreciated as I am out of ride until I can properly get it fixed. Thanks Can provide pictures if needed, but the car is not home, so it will take a while to get back to the car to take pictures.@mike I did try other gears including reverse, same result. Prior to this, the tranny had been making a little bit of noise when the clutch was engaged, but went away when I pushed in on the clutch pedal (effectively disengaging it from the engine). I really noticed nothing major prior to this, to predict it was going to happen.Upon further examining the vehicle, I noticed that when I put the car in gear, the speedometer went up to ~12mph. After looking under the hood at the drive axles, I noticed one of them spinning. Seems I sheered it in half, the car is fixed now. more

Titan is locked into synchronous rotation with Saturn, meaning that Saturn will always hang in the same place in the sky when viewed from Titan's surface (presumably, this skyward location would change depending on where you were on Titan's surface). So would Saturn still have phases, or would this synchronous rotation affect the phases? I know that from pictures taken during the Apollo missions that Earth appears to have phases when viewed from the moon, but would Saturn appear to have phases when viewed from the surface of Titan? (Disregarding the thick atmosphere of Titan, of course, which would make viewing a lot of things in space very difficult) more

Resolved Question: Is there damage to a car that will total it even if you are not at 75% of Fair Market value?

I had a deer basically land in my face Monday on the way home from work. There was a good amount of damage done to the roof, drivers door and of course the front windshield. From what everyone has told me ( and my belief as well) the car should be totaled. Since it was a Saturn and Saturn recommended the collision center I let the car be towed there to be worked on. The collision center works hand in hand with the insurance company...doing the estimate, photos and everything. They say that they want to cut the roof off and put on a new one, replace both the front and rear windshield, the drivers mirror, and all of the other work as well. The "A" Pillar has been damaged as well and needs to be "Fixed" from what the collision center said. They want to chop into it and re weld it instead of replacing it. I am totally against having the top chopped because of the reduction in the structural integrity in the case of a future roll over. This is the first time I have ever had to file. The accident happened at about 4:50pm after the claims center was closed. I got a hold of the 1800# to file the claim and had to call back the next day. I called for over 4 hours before talking to my claims rep. After she got the information and sent for a tow truck that was the last I heard from her. I called back with more questions...but no answer. I then took Wed. off of work to deal with the issue again and failed to get a hold of her until. I left the last message about noon stating that I was getting pissed and she called me back within 3 Min's. After that I stated my concerns with the copped top integrity issues as well as some other issues the collision center was failing to address. She forwarded my claim to a new "Field Rep". He called yesterday at about 3;50pm before closing and asked what issues I had and that he had little information about why it was transferred to him. I haven't heard from them since. Any help? Pictures are at.... http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=7578&id=100000254468178&l=c0049c1193 The collision center estimated a cost of about $3800 so far and that is without having to fix/replace the A pillar. The car's Fair Market Value is estimated to be about 6800. So that brings the total to about 56% of FMV without even tearing into the car. The collision center also refused to do a tear down when I asked of the surrounding area to see if there is any other unseen damage to to the impact, as well as basically refused to check the suspension as well...stating they did not have a just reasoning to perform the work. I feel that they are fishing for ways to keep cost down so it doesn't get totaled out just so they can make money off me. I don't think I would feel safe driving it with my kids in the car afterwords. Could I possibly require a certificate of certification for the welders and a guarantee that if the weld doesn't hold in a roll over they will be liable if they will not total? Will they cover the other estimates? My car has been in the shop for 2 full days now, and they have already taken off some molding for the estimate. Can I still have another done now? I have been trying to get these answers from my insurance company but I can't get ahold of my claims rep.If they were to replace the WHOLE A pillar (not chop and fix near the top) I may not be as worried. I usderstand that there are welds in the original. But once you go annd bend and weld other spots (weld spots not originally taken into concideration by engineers) you begin to weakin a struckture. The weld points for sure should hold...but the points around the weld could be an issue. The car was originally assembled and welded on a jig and assembly line, everything was in perfect alignment and done to engineering specs. Now there is some mechanic out there that is chopping and welding anywere he sees fit. It can't turn out as stucturally sound in the end as if it was made on the assembly line. And if so...will they guarantee it? I've asked this question in 3 locations on here so far... and sounds like the ones against it so far have a shop or are in the insurance biz. Go figure. more

Resolved Question: i need help with 90mm meade telescope? 800mm telescope. please read all.?

i just bought 90mm self guided with auto star telescope. i am so tired of not finding any planet with it. it comes with 25mm,20mm,17mm,12mm, and 6mm magnify lenses. its been me 5 days of looking at night everyday till 3 o clock in morning hoping to find mars or saturn or even jupiter. the only thing i got to see was frekin moon everyday i am sorry but i am so mad right now because i mean cmon i had star chart downloaded in my iphone and printed it and got stallrium downloaded in computer.i also got compass they gave me with the telescope (i dont know if its right because my brothers i phone 3gs north is like 20 degrees to left when the compass i got was at complete north. i am so tired of this. even when i aligned it perfectly once and yes it did go to moon well almost so close. then when i punched in jupiter in my auto star the telescope just goes half way to where its supposed to go. sometimes it does go to the really bright star in south like i can already star seeing this bright star at near 5pm or so. but when i look at that star i see like circle bright light brighter than most stars and it has 4 stars 2 to its down left and 2 to its top right. so its like diagonal from right to lower left(like measuring screen of television. but when i look stallrium in computer the diagonal line is opposite its diagonal from left to lower right. its 800mm telescope. when i read chart from my phone one day i saw cancer bit far from moon and gemini and orion. i knew everything and looked everywhere with my telescope but i could not find planet mars or saturn. on the manual it does show picture taken from this telescope of saturn. please someone help what should i do. i live in hayward, california.( near union city). more

Resolved Question: Which eyepiece should I get for my Dobsonian XT8 telescope?

it has a focal length of 1200mm and comes with a 25mm eyepice which is 48x zoom. i can see deep sky objects fairly well but i would like to be able to see the planets more easily. Jupiter for me is extremely bright but a bit on the small side, as it will just show up as a white dot if i were to take a picture. the details are not so visible and i am not even able to distinguish the red spot. what size eyepiece should i get for viewing planets, not just jupiter, but others such as saturn or mars? i am choosing between 10mm (120x) 8mm(150x) 7.5mm(160) 6.3mm (190) and 6 mm(200x). i have heard however that by each multiple of increased zoom, the amount of light is decreased by the power of 2. so if i were to get a 150x zoom eyepiece would it be about 9 times dimmer than my original 48x? i do not want to get an eyepiece that will make the vision too dim. also i do not want the zoom to be so great that the object is constantly leaving the view and i am unable to get a steady look at it more

Resolved Question: What (canon) camera should I get for astro use and fun.?

I did type this really quickly because I am busy studying. I don't need an answer to everything mentioned below, nor do I expect one. My question is long/detailed and I tend to ramble when I type fast. To start... i'll explain what I know and what I want to do with a new camera. 1st: My limited knowledge of SLR cameras comes for my fathers old Pentax that I used when I was kid. Basic picture taking and slight adjustments for night shots or that blurred affect of waterwalls and stuff like that. 2nd: I do have a 10" C10 on an equatorial mount. My main reason for wanting a DSLR is for that telescope, but I want to use it for other stuff as well. That telescope and mount was my first step/purchase towards being able to take astronomy photos. The spc900nc is good for Jupiter/Saturn/moon but nothing else. I know about the difficulty in tracking objects and stuff like that. I know you need an auto-guider for best or even ok results and that my results are not going to be that of the multi-billion dollar Hubble. I do accept all of those obstacles and facts. 3rd: I know that patience is the key to astro-photography, and that many people are not aware of the entire process or the costs involved for good/decent results. I have a degree in computers and currently an Aero-eng student. I have "not" taken an astronomy course (they don't count for credit towards my degree), but astronomy and space in general is a huge hobby of mine. Practically an obsession. I am quick to learn and pick up tricks that others have difficulty grasping (or so I think). I just want to make that a point before I get comments about astro-p being too difficult or not worth trying. I will do it regardless of the negative comments or opinions. My first tele was the telescope everyone told me not to get because of difficulty, and I got alignment and tracking down in the first 30+ hours(the first week upon delivery). I would even concrete and enclose if I didn't plan on moving soon. 4th: What do I want to do with an expensive hi-res manual camera? 20% of my use is for vacations. I go to some pretty unique places where I now wish I had better photos of. Desert/scenic landscapes, national parks, airshows, car races, cruises. The other 80% of my use and want is for long exposure prime focus shots with my telescope. (or) Piggybacking on my telescope with normal canon lenses. (or) standard tripod and use for imaging star/meteor trails. I have looked into getting a astro-ccd-camera, but the $400 models looks like crap (1.3mp), and the $1200 models (3-6mp) are only going to serve as a telescope camera, and that's all. The DSLRs have double triple or quadruple the resolution of an astro ccd at the same price, but they lack the noise filtering cooled ccd. I know most dslr can be modified, but I wont or have no plan on doing that or paying to have it done. Because of the cost and warranty of the camera. I have always wanted to take pictures of the milkyway bands, and time lapse of the sky (day/night). Which I know I need the $130 canon shutter/control timer thing. (I have considered a class 2-3 night-vision scope/camera). I plan on getting the following items for the camera soon after the camera purchase. 1: Timer/battery grip (for timed shutter control & remote triggering). 2: The general ??mm-???mm lens that is optional/additional. 3: Fisheye lens for the night sky (tripod- pointing to zenith for meteors and general 1-5 minute exposures sequenced to show the movement of the night sky) 4: Telephoto for general piggy-back use on my telescope or for tripod shots of shuttle/rocket launches ( I go to all of the KSC launches). I have looked at the canon 40d and I love the shutter speed (its just cool). There are many times my point-and-shoot camera(s) miss all the action, like going to nhra races or air-shows. Is the 6 shutter "things" a second that much better than the standard 3 shutter things found on all of the other canons or other brand cameras. For long-exposure and time-lapse photography, Will a $300 xsi (or similar) work as good as a $900 40d for what I want to do? I don't mind spending 1500-2000 total if that is the only way I can get the results I want. At the shuttle launches everyone has a 3-8 grand worth of still camera equipment and I always notice that 80% of them use Canon. I have talked to several people at various rocket/shuttle launches, but they dont know how to take astro pics. They are all photographers with jobs in sports, news, wedding, and general photography. My main reason and want for canon comes from everyone saying that canon is better and has done more for astro stuff than any other company. I dont know that or know the truth behind those statements. I am not close minded and would lover to hear all suggestions and opinions of any camera you want to talk about. If it costs $300 from walmart, or $1200 online to do what I want, I am ok with that. I don't like crap elNyX: LoL... Yea, I tend to over analyze everything now, no arguments there. I can only blame/credit school for that asset. I forget the other persons name: Oh I know about the difficulties, it isn't easy to get a good image or cheap for that matter. I have all the time in the world to perfect a useful method. I plan on getting a scope that is more suited for photography and my mount, like the Orion 120mm apo with the coatings. I am the type of person that is disgusted with societies view of space and the universe. Space is the key to every answer imaginable and people know nothing about it (even the smartest people on this planet). There are road blocks, but nothing will stop me from getting a crispy pic of the awesome looking deep space objects. more

Resolved Question: Is Cassini space craft capable of taking pictures as it crashes into Saturn?

If the answers is yes, and if NASA has control over the craft, crash Cassini into Saturn so we could see close up pictures of the planet; save the tax payer some money and move on to exploring other planets. How many more distant images of Saturn’s rings do we have to look at? I have seen enough. more

Resolved Question: Study Earth to develop policies to protect and prosper, or, study extraterrestrial habitats?

If the NASA budget was focused on one topic, would you want studies to better learn about Earth and how we can better adapt humans to exist so children can have a remotely similar environment as we benefit from today, or would you like to have your mind blown by Saturn pictures and speculation of life light years away, the kind of things that is much more sexy than instituting carbon laws based on science. For perspective I read NASA budget is less than $20b annually and defense is over $600b (ie B2 bomber ~$2b each) Only $0.270b was spent on the Orbiting Carbon Observatory and at that rate took 7 years of development (failed at launch). A mission to Pluto was $0.650b. A new Moon mission investment is estimated $150b. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/opinion/01krauss.html?_r=1 http://www.thespacereview.com/article/898/1 more

Resolved Question: Could we land a rover on Titan?

It seems to me that beyond Mars the next most interesting destination for both unmanned and manned exploration is Titan. The Jovian system is interesting, but it's so radioactive that we couldn't really do much there, plus Jupiter's moons are covered with miles-thick ice, so sending a rover there wouldn't really reveal much. Next on the list - Saturn is fascinating in all kinds of ways, much much less radioactive than Jupiter and Titan is the most fascinating object in the outer solar system in my opinion - it has a thick atmosphere and lakes of liquid methane - the only body in the solar system besides Earth that has liquid on its surface. The surface is also believed to be geologically active - can you imagine how amazing HQ images would look? We could send a rover that is powered by RTGs as the thick atmosphere would mostly block out the Sun and Saturn. NASA now knows how to execute a precision landing so we can make sure it doesn't land in a methane lake. Biggest question on my mind is though - could it be made strong enough to withstand methane rain and the very low temperature? Is NASA, ESA or another space agency considering this at all? Cassini–Huygens was such a huge success and the picture that the lander took is so fascinating, the next logical step would have to be a rover, right? more

Resolved Question: What books would you recommend...?

I've been looking for books on the Planets of the Solar System. I want like book's that focus on one planet individually, like it's kind of a series of books. I've look at Barnes and Noble.com, and most everything is children's books. To be more descriptive, for example: A book on Saturn, that is anywhere from 200 to 600 pages long, and is more than just pictures, but actually tells you everything that we know about the planet, along with books for each planet like this. Resolved Question: I don't have any money, and I need help organizing an intervention for my father (alcoholic)?

How do I do this? I moved to Iowa from Oregon because I got layed off. I had no idea how bad things had become with him and his drinking. I've been here for 4 months and tonight we decided to go to Texas Roadhouse and have a steak (a VERY VERY rare occurance because we don't have any money. He's disabled and I'm an out of work truck-driver. I'm ready to go to work at K-mart if I have to, but anyway I got us a table at the texas Roadhouse and he parked the SuV (he shouldn't have been driving anyway but he wouldn't listen to me and let me drive). We had a discussion (more of an argument about if there was a Henry County in the state of Iowa. I didn't think there was, and he was positive, so while driving 75mph he reaches over to grab the map out of the glove box, and almost runs off the road. I grabbed wheel, barely missing a sign pole (which, by the way, read "speed limit, 65mph).... He screamed at me to NEVER GRAB the wheel while he is driving!. So I shut up and we were almost there anyway. Well, when we got there he said "oh, I'm not eating here, there's a line!!!!! (there were some people standing outside). I told him hold on, I'll go in an check. I went and got us a booth IMMEDIATELY. I told the waitress that I had to go back out and tell me dad so he could park. I did, and went back in and ordered a coke/pepsi (whatever they serve), and had already decided on my menu item when he came stumbling to the table and SLAMMED an Iowa map down so loud that everyone turned around to see what was going on. In the process, he spilled my pepsi and then he got a pen out and circled well-known cities in Iowa, and drew arrows to another city that was indeed, in a HENRY COUNTY, in Iowa (Sorry I didn't know that, dad). He stabbed at the map with the pen, then folded it up, and threw it. It hit some lady in the head. He got up and marched out. I apologized to the lady. I saw where he was parked and I walked up to the rear of the saturn VUE *stupidly*, and he put it in reverse and stomped on the accelerator, which ended up putting my right arm through the rear window and shattering it. It cut me in numerous places, and then he put it in drive, pulled up about 3 feet, then did it again!. I guess I'm slow because I weigh 180 pounds, because this time he clipped me in the uppoer thigh. By now I was out of the way. There were NUMEROUS WITNESSES ASKING ME IF i WAS 'OK'. No I'm not ok, call the police I said! They all did. My dad didn't even get out of the parking lot before the police pulled in from all directions, blocking his way out. He is a a retired Judge, and a lawyer. Now, tonight, he is in Jail for DUI and Assault and battery with a vehicle (a felony) in Iowa. They asked me if I wanted to pursue it (the assault and battery charge and I said no because I didn't want him to lose his pention. They patched me up on the scene (no need to go to the hospital, only a bunch of small cuts). They took him to jail and I went to my mom's house (via cab to my dad's house (we kinda live together, but I think that's going to come to an end), and I drove my pickup to my mom's house. We talked for about 3 hours, and when I got back to his house, that a-hole had already bonded out of jail and was home. He told me I had 36 hours to get out of the house. So now, what do I do. Do I just leave, or do I pay a visit to the Bettendorf Police department, remind them of the incident, show the pictures that I cleverly TOOK OF MY INJURIES, and tell them that I'd like to pursue charges. It will rip his $135,000 pension out from beneath his feet so fast that he'll be working at sonic before I even collect my damages. What do I do? I thank you for reading such a long and jumbled account of what happened. but, it's the gospel. That really happend. My own father, drunk, hit me 2wice with his SUV and was arrested for DUI, and now I'M BEING THREATENED WITH EVICTION. Should I take his income from him for the rest of his life and watch him work (failiingly, as a lawyer * he never makes it court cause he's always drunk*.) Or do I take pity on him and let him kill himself with alcohol? Let the answers flow. -john in davenport, Iowa more

Resolved Question: If we landed on the moon 6 times and 12 men have walked on the moon, why does Nasa only show pictures?

If we landed on the moon 6 times and 12 men have walked on the moon, why does Nasa only show pictures from the first "supposed" landing? I have a number of reasons for believing that we have never landed on the moon! 1) All of our satelites are all positioned within a specific distance from Earth in order to prevent their entering the Van Allen radiation belt and being knocked of course, crashing into the Earth or simply exploding. 2) It has been proven that a lead shield would have to be a minimum of 6" inches thick in order to protect our astronauts from frying as they pass through the Van Allen Radiation belt on their way to the moon! This would make the space craft so heavy that they couldnt produce enough thrust to leave the Earth's atmosphere. 3) Why wont Nasa explain how they solved the problem in previous question #2.? 4) We have telescopes that can see the surface of Mars and the particle rings of Saturn, yet we cant aim them at the moon to show the lunar rover or the American Flag "waving"; (I might add, in a place where there is no atmosphere, hence no wind!) 5) Why havent the Russians gone to the moon? I could ask 100 more questions, but...... more

Resolved Question: I saw a bright light explosion below Jupiter last night?

honestly, i'm not completely sure i was looking at Jupiter. Through a pair of 10x50 binoculars, i can make out 4 moons on a planet that seems to rise from the east about an hour after dark, and is above the tree line to where i can see it from my back yard around 11:30pm. I assume it's Jupiter, though may be saturn. You can see the planet quite clearly with the naked eye, as it is brighter than anything else in the sky. Anyway, last night around 2:30 am central standard time (Texas) i happened to pull my binoculars out to see where the moons were in relation to the planet. Please keep in mind that through these binoculars, i can't make out obvious features of the planet. it looks like a white ball, and i can faintly see 4 little moons sticking off of it, and can generally only see the moons when they are on the sun reflective side of the planet, therefore are not always apparent, and i can't always see all 4 of them. These moons appear about like a very dim and small star would look to the naked eye, whereas jupiter appears about 4x larger than it does to the naked eye. Anyway, i was looking at the planet last night. I can't really see many other stars in the area directly around the planet, however can see a few that i can't see with the naked eye (also keep in mind i am in the city limits) About "half an inch" below the planet, i saw a bright pulse of light that was brighter than the planet. The entire pulse took about half a second. it lit up quickly, and took a short time to fizzle out completely. There was nothing there before or after the light. I also sat for a little while continuing my gaze to see if anything else would happen, but didn't see anything after that.. did i witness a super nova?? If i did, i feel pretty lucky considering that star exploded millions of years ago, and that light has been traveling here since it happened just to hit the earth at EXACTLY the right time for me to have been looking through my binoculars in the right direction. I'm fairly convinced that if i weren't looking through my binoculars, i still would have seen this pulse of light. it was at least as bright as the planet and just as large. so my question is, did anyone else happen to see it? has anyone found it and taken pictures of the aftermath? it seems very unlikely, but, out of all the people in the world, someone must know about it. Was it a super nova, a pulsar light, or what? What all could it have been? i really have no idea.... thanks!thanks for the responses so far.. PS.... it was jupiter.. i downloaded an AWESOME software called stellarium (it's free) and checked to see.. more

Resolved Question: Have you noticed your birthchart pointing out big connections with historical people, or events?

I have no idea how to ask this simply. I don't even know if I'm asking a question, I just need to mention this. Here's an example: When I was 10 years old, I read a book called "Number the Stars", which is about these two little girls who were taken to a concentration camp. I checked this book out at the library, and I refused to return it (my mother just paid for it). I read it over and over again, and I still have this book today. I read every book I could find on the Third Reich or German history, especially books such as Anne Franks Diary. I've been enrolled in German courses since I was 14, and I've visited the country twice. I'm studying German History and Language for my degree, just because I feel like I need to. For my whole life, I cannot talk about German history, or see a picture of Hitler without just getting this strange feeling. It is not a weak feeling. I have no German in my blood, but I do have Dutch Ancestry. Please, do not call me a Nazi or anything, but that's not what this is about at all. The thing is, looking at Hitlers chart, we both have Saturn conjunct our MC in fire signs, and my Sun/Neptune/Mercury/Saturn/Uranus in the 10th house, conjunct his Moon/Jupiter in Capricorn, but by a wide orb for my Mercury. His Pluto and Neptune fall in my 3rd house, Neptune conjunct my Chiron/IC. In Germany - Uranus/Neptune/Saturn were all conjunct (as mine are) with Germany's Sun in Scorpio, in my 8th house, conjuncting my natal Mars and Pluto, the day the Berlin Wall fell. The Third Reich, as well as the Berlin Wall hold my interest in a very intense way, and have for as long as I can remember. What should I make of this? Have you noticed anything in your chart that connects you to a point in history like that? A few months ago my friend hit a deer and ever since then things havent been right. every now and again all her gauges stop working and twich out and she loses her stearing. so someone told her whenever this happens to stop the car and unplug and replug the battery and it will work fine. well everyonce in a while it works but is starting to stop working. what should she do? she has no insurance because before the accident she didnt get the picture taken of the car.she got hit in the front of her car the lights got taken out and the hood is dented.Once i see her i will uptade with a picture. and ask for more details about what happens. Oh and the car makes this annoying consistant huming that doesnt go away unless she shuts off her car.she has also tried replacing the battery and thats not the problem because after that it still had the same issues as before she changed it more

Resolved Question: How much should I ask for an insurance buyout on my Nissan Titan?

OK. Here’s the deal. Two days ago, I got stuck in traffic (standstill) on the interstate highway. Some guy in a subcompact came racing down the highway and smashed into the back end of my 2004 Titan crew cab. The little Saturn hit my class-4 tow hitch and was demolished. His insurance company did a quick visual inspection (before the body shop strips it down and examines the frame). They set minimum damage at $9,200. But the insurance guy left a phone message saying they might have to total it out and pay me cash value. Here’s the problem. I got a very good deal on this truck last summer. I bought it with 14,000 miles for $14,900 plus 1,500 for an extended warrantee. It’s a crew cab four wheel drive (see picture below). But now I can’t find a suitable replacement for less than 17,500. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/sricheso/s1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/sricheso/hitch1.jpgThanks for the info Pedo. I couldn’t get the line to come up, but I found some similar info on Google. Right now, the body shop has determined that the damage is $7,600 dollars. The insurance company says that if (after further inspection) the estimate exceeds 9,200, they will consider the truck totaled. But there is no frame damage. Anyway, I expect they will be able to repair the truck and they are giving me a one month rental of a Chevy Silverado crew cab. I’m fine. My German shepherd got throw from the backseat into the front window, but he’s just bruised and has made a quick recovery. He’s just a 7 month old puppy, but very big (about 90 pounds) and very tough. You’re comment reminds me that we (especially me) sometimes make too much out of religious differences. We’re all just people and we have common experiences that unite us. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/sricheso/pic1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v245/sricheso/pic2.jpg more

My sister is thinking about getting her Saturn S12's windows tinted, but she can't figure out what tint she wants. Please suggest what she should do and maybe show pictures, thanks! If it matters, her Saturn is the exact same color as this one: http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/vehicle-pictures/2001/saturn/s-series/01130021990001-480.jpgTravis, you're just like the people who murdered her.
