Open Question: How does the chameleon trap a pawn in Ultima (baroque chess)?
I understand a chameleon captures a piece the way this piece captures. Thus, capturing a pawn (pincher) would be done by pinching an enemy piece orthogonally (not diagonally) with a friendly piece. My question is: Does the motion of the chameleon leading to the pinching have to be orthogonal )because pawns can only move orthogonally) or can it be diagonal? Now opinions about this differ over the internet so don't just google me about it. THx moreOpen Question: dreamscapes art project... need ideas?
Hey(: for art, we're starting a new unit. it's surrealism. We're supposed to do a dream scape of some sort and have a few different options on what to do. '1. make it fly-any object that should be rooted to the ground, put out of place in the air. ex. a castle in the sky. 2. out of place- taking a subject and placing it in an environment where it would never be seen. ex. a stereo in a library. 3. Change size to the extreme. Ex a flower among skyscrapers, or a man as tall as a chess piece on a chessboard. 4. change what it's made of. ex. cast iron butterfly. 5. make holes in subjects, or cause the background objects to overlap foreground objects. That's it.. if any of you have any ideas other then the ones mentioned i would really appreciate it!! :D thanks!! So I just broke a really importent chess piece that belongs to my Mom's boyfriend & I feel REALLY bad. I'ts from Athens, Greece & worth over $250, obviously I'm going to tell him but I would like to make it up. I have way mor than enough money lieing around for no good reason so if anyone knows where I can maybe find a replacement please tell me. If it helps the chess piece was made of stone (I think) and was of a brown/gold color. There are guys holding tridents (probably neptune), a women in armor, soldiers, and some horses. Some parts like the soldiers helmet, the horses mane, and neptunes tunic, are blue. I would take a look at the bottom for further info. but with my butterfingers.... well I'm not about to pick anything importent up anytime soon. So please answer if you can, I feel absolutly terrible & although the one piece (wich is a horse by the way) is fixable I know it will never be the same & want to show I'm sorry. moreResolved Question: Where do you see yourself when the road ends?

Is this a game for the future.?
I have devised a new way of playing chess with numbers. The pieces for each player would be like checkers but with numbers 1 to 16 on top. Since these values will change during the game, they should be written on the pieces in an easily changed way. Players alternately place the even numbers on the back rank in any order. Then they place the odd numbers, again alternately, on the rank in front. This placing of the pieces could be as important as the play. I think that the fact white has to declare positions before black may, to some extent, nullify the advantage of first move. When play starts the odd numbers move as bishops along the diagonals. The even numbers move as rooks along ranks and files. When pieces are captured they are not only removed from the board but the value of the capturing piece is increased by 1. This means that if an odd number makes a capture it changes to an even number so its future moves will be like a rook. Similarly, an even numbered piece making a capture has its value increased by 1 and so its future moves will be like a bishop. The game ends with a win for the player with the last piece on the board, although I think that this is an unlikely outcome. The other way a game would end is if both players had made the same specified number of consecutive moves, say 5, without a capture. Then the player with the higher total is the winner. A draw is possible but I think much less likely than in the conventional game. Of course, this could be played on smaller or larger boards. The smallest possible would be 4 by 4 with no spaces between the players pieces so the first move must be a capture. I think that even this size board has scope for interesting play. I wonder whether this game would involve the same depth of tactics and skill as the conventional game. What do you think?I meant that each player would have 8 pieces on a 4 by 4 board, and 12 on a 6 by 6 board, etc.Placement would be important because it might determine which pieces are captured first. Remember, assuming player ends with the last piece, after 5 pairs of no capture moves, you add up the scores of those remaining to determine the winner.I meant assuming that NO player ends with the last piece, you count up those remaining to determine the winner.Value of pieces is important. The fact that the #1 can knock out the #16 will help when adding up the final scores. An alternative idea is that when capturing, a piece increases its value not just by 1, but by the value of the captured piece.Skonhet. There aren't any links because I only thought this up a couple of days ago.T.S. I think that matters aren't as simple as you suggest. If white's first move is a capture, black does not have to recapture. He could do a different capture of his own. Which would be best would depend on the value of the pieces.William. I'm not suggesting that it replace chess, but that it may be an interesting game in its own right. moreVoting Question: is this poem good? i need constructive criticism.?

Hello I need about one more paragraph to complete this essay someone PLEASE help me...you can Include examples..........Chess is a game that is played between two people on opposite sides of a board that has 64 checkered styled squares. Each person starts the game with16 pieces. The goal of the game is to checkmate (capture) the other persons king by trying to use the other 15 pieces to take away the opponents 15. I believe this game teaches children that there are always benefits and consequences for every decision you make. That’s important because it will help them to plan and think about what they’re going to do before they do it. Chess also teaches children that sometimes it is necessary to take risks and sacrifice. Chess teaches patience because you have to wait for your opponent to move before you do. If the child really likes to play chess it can teach them the value of working hard and what they get out of it. That skill will be very important for children when they are in school and all throughout their lives because they will know through hard work and persistence they will succeed. moreResolved Question: What tools would be best for hand carving a wood chess set?

I know is long but i really need help, i have to turn this paper by tomorrow, I already went through everything a few times and i can find errors. I will appreciate if somebody could help me thank you =). My mom always says that I remind her of her mother because my grandma and I are exactly alike in many ways. We both like cooking, playing strategy games and the way I discipline my son, it resembles of the way she used to discipline me and my sister when we were little. Ever since I was little my grandma used to take care of me and my sister because my mom was always working. She thought me all I know about cooking. I remember I started to have an interest in cooking when I was five years old and when my grandma was in the kitchen cooking, I was always right there with her just so she could teach me new recipes. Now in days I’m the only one that cooks in my house except for Saturdays and Sundays, those are my free days, but I don’t mind at all because I just love cooking and I like when every time my family says that my food taste just like my grandma’s, because we all miss her and it just make us think that she’s still with us. I remember the first day my grandma thought me how to play chess. It was a hot day and we were sitting in the living room. I remember she asked me if I wanted to play chess with her, I told her that I didn’t know how to play and she said that she would teach me. She started to explaining me the names of the pieces and how they move. She though me that the knight move like an “L”, that the King can only move one place at a time, that the queen can move wherever it wanted to, that the rook can only move straight not diagonal, that the pawn at first can move two or one time forward and after that just only one time and always forward never back, and that the bishop can only move diagonal. After she explained me the basics we started to play and at first I was always loosing, but after a while I started to understand the game better and I started to win. Now every time me and my boyfriend play chess, it makes me remember the time I used to play with my grandma; she used to love playing chess, that was her favorite game and now it’s my favorite game too. Other thing my grandma and I have in common, it’s the way I discipline my child. My mom says that it resembles of the way my grandma used to discipline me and my sister when we were little. Every time my son is doing something he’s not supposed to, I always give him a mean look and he immediately stops doing it, but sometimes it doesn’t work and when that happen I just tell him to stop or he will see. If he doesn’t stop I just go where he’s at, grab his little hands, look him in the eyes and ask him why he keeps doing something I told him not to do; then I give him a spank in his booty and put him in time out. Then he cries for a while and when he stops crying I ask him, “are you going to keep doing what you was doing?” and then I put him in the floor just to see if he understood and it seems like it works. For example, before he used to mess with the cables behind the TV and now he doesn’t do it anymore. I guess my grandma used to do exactly the same thing with me and my sister when we were little because that’s what my mom told me, but I don’t remember. I don’t even know why I choose this way to discipline my child; it just seems the easiest way for my son to learn that he’s not supposed to do something I told him not to do. My grandma though me a lot of things when I was little that had helped me a lot throughout my life and I pick up on some of her stuff she used to do and I guess it’s normal because I lived with her for fifteen years. I don’t think there’s nobody out there in the world that looks more like me than my grandma does, not even my mom or my twin sister; just my grandma. moreResolved Question: In chess can a king move to a space that WOULD be threatened by an enemy piece IF it were not pinned?
I have thought of an ambiguity in the way in which chess rules are usually told. It is said that one cannot place his own king in check. Imagine this scenario: Black has a king and a pawn. White has a king and a rook. Black's king is on A7, and his/her pawn is on C7. White's king is on E6, and his/her rook is on F7. Obviously Black's pawn is pinned against his/her king, as moving it would create a clear path between his/her king and White's rook. It's White's move. If he/she moves his/her king to D6, that would usually be illegal, since Black has a pawn on C7. But since the pawn is pinned, it obviously would not be able to take White's king even then. Is it legal for White to do that then? Would it still be considered self-checking, and therefore illegal? moreResolved Question: in the game of chess, what piece do you think represents you? are you just like the pawn or the valiant knight?

I am writing an English paper and want to make sure I am not making grammar mistakes. Please check these sentences: During the time of the Renaissance, people played a variation of our chess game called Courier Chess. When making my Romeo and Juliet board game, I tried to get pieces for Romeo and Juliet that resembled the pieces used in Courier Chess as shown to the right from a painting by Lucas van Leyden. During the Renaissance period, the people enjoyed playing games of chance and strength. They played games such as football, which are still played today, and many other variations of ball and spear games. When making my board game, I tried to stick with traditional colors that were common for clothing and paintings during the time of the Renaissance; I used colors such as reds, yellows, greens, and blues. I tried to avoid using much pink, which was not a common color, and bright purple. Please help me! Thanks. Is this sentence an example of parallel structure? I used roses and flowers, moons and suns, daggers and stars, and lips and birds. moreResolved Question: Any stop motion movie ideas involving people (ASAP)?
I'm starting a project, making a stop motion video for my class, and we have no idea on what to make it on. Well, it has to involve people, and moving people, and yea usual stop motion things. i've been thinking of this, kinda crappy, but the best I can think of. Writing a letter without using my hands to my friend in another class, then it gets sent to the wrong person, and that person thought that it was an insult to him, so he chases him, and all. Slaps him, then the guy that the letter was suppose to give to comes to him and slaps him because that was supposed to be a hint to the test + an insult. So they decide to play chess telepathically one day, then one of them lost, so he was pissed because he thought that his friend was cheating, so he used his telepathic ability to throw the pieces with his mind, and they just fly towards him and he runs away from them until a dead end. Good idea, or do you have a better idea. i suggest that you give me more ideas. Thanks moreResolved Question: Question on advanced chess rules?
I was playing a game with a friend. It was rather important for both of us, because it was the deciding game in a small chess tournament opposing our respective schools. Anyways, we were playing with 30 minutes on the clock. Towards the end of the game, I had 10 minutes left and he had only about 10 seconds left (wasn't digital, couldn't tell). So, he checked me, but DID NOT say it out loud. I didn't notice he had checked me, and I played another piece. He pointed out this was an illegal move, and claimed he can get an extra minute on the clock for that. This happened again once more. In the end, he finished the game with less than 2 minutes on the clock, with a checkmate. My question is, can you claim extra time on your clock when your opponent plays an illegal move, EVEN if you did not point out that he was in check in the first place. All of these answers are very interesting. I would like to clarify a few details, I do know saying "check" out loud is not obligatory. I'm asking the question, can a time penalty be given to the other player in this particular situation. In reality, my friend pulled out this rule out of his ass, and I just trusted him to know the rules correctly. Turns out there is no such thing as a time penalty for illegal move. And it wasn't a real tournament, but just a friendly match between the chess clubs of our respective colleges. moreResolved Question: how to move chess pieces?

After a full year of the Obama administration I think it is plane to see that the United State was unprepared for a black president. The tell tail signs are their on display at our nations capital and all over the USA. The GOP unwillingness to reach any compromise on any of the issue that most concerns the American people. Most hard line republicans are mad over practically everything and anything the liberals might think of turning into law. The creation of a tea party movement, and people yelling for their state to secede are just a few of the things that are happening all around this country. Never before have I witnessed such a divide, with a kind of hatred you can see and smell from the faces of each of the participants in some of the demonstration I have seen on TV. These people are not just mad that they have lost an election. If this was the case they would have died down by now. Despite what most people are willing to admit, the fact is that these people are mad because they feel the minorities are taking away their county and their way of life. Change, and at this level is just too much for most of these people to under go and their fears and ignorance will cloud their better judgment. What scares me the most is the future. If the conservatives have their way, nothing will be done on Capital Hill with this administration. And that will suit the conservative moment just fine. But what they seem not to understand is that “what goes around comes around” and two can play it that way. Liberals will not just stand there when the next conservative president steps in the white house. Unless the conservative can win the house and senate with full majority the full sum will be eight years of stale mate and only America stands to loose. If these people are willing to take that risk then how can they say they love America. A wise man ounce said, “ life is like a game of chess, you can not win without loosing some of your pieces”. What pieces are the conservative willing to let go of. I hope it will not be the most important piece of all “ their faith”. moreVoting Question: WILL THEY BE MAKING an XMEN 4 movie?
Some people said they wont because instead of that they'll be making a wolverine (xmen origins) and magneto movie. But from the last scene magneto seem to be able to move the chess piece, indicating he might have powers back. And the very2 last scene after the credits (many people didnt realise there is a very last scene), in the hospital Professor X who was lying in the bed suddenly called out Moira's (the attending doctor) name. So he's alive! Im pretty confident they put the scenes there for a reason. Do u guys think there'll be another sequel to the movie? moreVoting Question: Will they be making an XMEN 4 movie?

I am a chess maniac, I play a lot. Recently though I have been caught in a losing streak. Players I can normally crush, or have a decent game against are winning. I would very much appreciate some advise as to how I can get out of this slump. moreResolved Question: Chess piece inside me... Please help!?
4 days ago I had just had a shower and I was drying off in the bedroom, and I sat down on the bed (naked) unaware that the chess board and pieces was still there from when me and my wife were playing that day. At the time I didn't notice anything but when I stood up I realised a chess piece had gone up my anus after sitting on it, I tried to get it out, and I'm unable to have any movements, it's properly stuck in there and is blocking anything from going in or out. I'm too embarrassed to go to the doctors about this, and I was wondering if any of you have any advice of what I should do! Thanks, Eric. moreResolved Question: Why does Yahoo chess keep disconnecting me?
It's the third time this week, I'm winning a game, up 2 pieces or more, and I'll get the message "you have been disconnected." I immediately go back in, and every time, somebody else is already sitting in my seat, and I can't sit back down to finish my game. Despite asking politely if they will stand up so I can finish, they never do, and each time I've inadvertently lost or been resigned by somebody else despite the fact that I was winning before disconnecting. Thanks, Yahoo Chess! Is there anything I can do when I've been disconnected and somebody else has taken my seat? Even if I've started the table, I can't boot them after I come back. moreResolved Question: Think you know enough anime or manga?? Then Guess these!!?
