i know this sounds ridiculous but let me start by saying i have ocd and bad paranoia. well i was 12 when i thought this. i was playing a game called othello and when i opened my mouth to cough i felt something go in my throat. so for the past 10 years i think i have one of those game pieces in my throat. BUT i went to the doctor to get checked out and she said there is nothing in there. but i swear i see an black and white thing in my throat. then i went to the doc when i was 18 and found out i have a cyst in my throat. so is it the cyst that is really in there and just that and the game piece paranoia is in my head? or is there really a game piece in there? is it possible for a game piece that is quartersize be stuck in my throat for 10 years and i can still eat and breathe normally? more

I am sure that in the late 70's or early 80's I had a game that had black and white circular pieces, I thought the game was Othello...and when you laid your white or black piece down, it either stayed white or black or it flipped because of the magnet under the board...does anyone else remember this and if so what was it called? I bought the kids one for Christmas and thought that it would be like the one from years ago, but it was not magnetic more

Resolved Question: What is the game being played in the film Hero?

In the film Hero there is a scene at a 'chess house' where two characters are playing game where white and black stones are being placed on a eight by eight board. I'm trying to find out what game this is. It seems that most people think it is Go(WeiQi, Baduk), but I really don't buy it. First off, Go stones are played on the intersections of the grid, not in the squares. Go boards are generally 19x19, there are also smaller boards like 13x13 and 9x9, so the fact that in the film there is an even amount of spaces tells me that it isn't Go. I considered that it might be Othello(reversi), but the board position would be illegal by the rules of othello. I also considered that it might be an asian varient of chess, but none of these are played by placing stones. They generally have pieces which you move around the board like regular chess. Anyways, does anyone have any idea what game this is?Right now I'm thinking that someone didn't do their homework, which resulted in a non-existent game being played in film. It's probably meant to be Go, but just scewed and inaccurate. more

Resolved Question: Can you help me remember an arcade game from about 10 years ago, featuring an alien version of 'othello'?

I saw this about 10-15 years ago in an arcade. It was this strange, alien version of an 'Othello'-style game. I think there were game pieces that were like red balls of slime that moved on a board against an opponent. It was fun, and I recall it had the eerie heavy bass music/noise that it would make. Any ideas? Googling for this I couldn't find anything. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Looking for an old board game - like Othello.?

There was a game that I played as a child which was almost exactly like Othello. In this game, the black/white pieces were magnetic with each color being a polar opposite. Under the board, there was a series of magnetic strips that could be placed to affect the game board. Your piece , even if played as white, could end up black based on the magnets. I ws trying to find a copy of this game, but have been unable to do do. Does anyone else remember playing this game? And if so, could you help direct me as to where to find it? Thanks! more
