Open Question: Why do you get daft folk here who dont read posts properly then say what are you on about?
Why do you get daft folk here who dont read posts properly then say what are you on about?
Yes its a bit long but the lesson here is look at the detail and reasoning before responding so you get things right.
I've included an example but this applies to most as seeing this dumb behavour a lot.
Seen this a lot recently two posters Jessica and Pieces and Gerogie boy.
They skip read a post, pick out a few words then come out with the classic lines
'Im not reading all that '
then
'what are you on about'
or
'I dont get why you think this way or you must be whatever perve, daft, rubbish etc'
More importantly smart folk dont ask dumb qustions like 'I dont get it', 'what are you on about' as its always clear by their answers THEY HAVE READ all the details, check the links Therefore know what the questioner is on about as it was listed say on
Paragraph 3 line 4
Or was explained far better in link 3 which may refer to court cases, news reports, documentry, statistics or other supporting evidence. If you have time to come here you have to to read to get all the facts and understanding to base thinking and responses on. You can spot these folk as other posters will understand and write proper responses even if they dont aggree they dont assume they now how a poster is thinking they read abd base their thinking on ALL thats said not little bits then go with some crowd thinking.
The brains are in the complex details and level of backing evidence, what makes somone right is the level of their research or links or evidence. not whats popular thinking. popular thinking leads to urban myths like you see tests and proven false on shows like MYTHBUSTERS.
Makes a lot more sense to read it all then make up assumptions in your head does it not.
Or pedantically try and make themselves look smart by pointing out typos and spelling errors thinking it makes them look smart probably as spelling was the only subject they passed.
When smart folk are not bothered about typos as its obvious what someone was saying and most likely bad typing as most have not done touch typing courses so look at the keyboard, not the screen so miss typos, or scan read and know what was being said so brain fills in the blanks whilst others who did not write the post spot them easier as will the poster later.
Ie worrying about the unimportant stuff instead of the message.
And what about those who base their thinking on rules/laws rules and laws are not simply there to be obeys, They need scrutiny to assertain wether fair or not, wheter rational or not or whether the original spirit was decent and needed and fair and wether it applies in all cases.
Rules are often wrong and were written to benfit a few people or written by nutter.
ie in the ten commandments it say you cant work on a sunday, remeber that one when your house is on fire or need urgent medical treatment.
or honour thy parents... JESSICA note that one it has no clause or kiddie abusing parents, junkies, drunks or thugs or plain stupid parents.
And how about sexaul laws?
it used to be illegal and considered perverted to be gay or have a mixed race relationhship.
but legal to keep slaves, shoot a welshman with a bow and arrow, islamic countries execute for making love outside an arranged marrige and jail you for kissing in public or even being alone in a room with a single memeber of the opposite sex. The taliban even flogged people for not having a long beard or flying a kite and playing chess and had the death penalty for a girl going to school or seeing a male doctor.
Clearly those who simply respect rules and laws are bonkers.
For example I have stated I think its actually totally wrong for anyone to be punished for sexting ie sending nude or sexy photos to boy or girl friends.
People mention they should be as it's child porn. according to the rules. But how many look up and think harder then that to work out that these rules were meant for people who FORCE, COERCE PEOPLE AGAINST THEIR WILL. Or are delibertely manipulating others with MALICIOUS intent.
Note the capitialised words... IT shows the DEFFINITION of the situation of it ONLY being a crime where there was MALICIOUS, BULLYING, MEAN intent. as its supposed to PROECt FROM ABUSE.
In the case of your typical sexting which even Disney stars like Vanessa Hudgen do there was NO NO NO abusive, malicious intent so no crime and it should not matter if somone was over or younger then the age when the CONSENT is clearly there and the REASON was to say HI BOYFRIEND WHO I CARe aboUT AND FANCY ROTTON I LIKE YOU VERY MUCH AND COMFORTABLE YOU CHECKING ME OUT, I TRUST YOU AND WANT TO KISS AND SNUGGLE AND GET PASSIONATE WITH YOU, AND WANT YOU TO FEEL THE SAME ABOUT ME SO HERE IS A TREAT TO TURN YOU ON AND MAKE YOUWANT TO KISS AND CUDDLE AND LET YOU KNOW I LIKE YOU THINKING ABOUT ME THIS WAY.
In other words its sexting is romantic. So why is romance a crime? BULLYIN*******************

I'm not reading all that... All I saw was "child porn" "Disney" and "malicious". What are you on about? Are Mickey and Minnie making porn for children?? =O

moreOpen Question: I Have a Question about a Chess game I played, if I won or was it my opponent that was the victorious...?
In the last few minutes of the game I placed my game piece in check with my opponents king, at that point I told him he was in check. Well he moved another piece and not the king which was in check, I had no Idea that he would make a move or such a mistake like that. So because he had already moved another piece I took my turn and took his king. I believe once he moved the other piece he had to keep it there and that was his turn and I pproceededwith my move. Was I correct?? I heard that once you move a piece or touch that piece you must move it. I told him he was in check and he did not move his king out of that pposition Pleas any feedback would clear my mind!! He said that I won but at first he tried to make excuses for what happen now I am doubting myself.None of the answers make sense, I told him that he was in check and he did not move his king instead he moved another piece, what was I suppoped to do play the game for him and tell him all my moves?

moreVoting Question: How do I fix my windows xp user account?
So on Tuesday night, cdkdsk ran on startup, and it mentioned something about deleting master files? I thought this was rather unusual, but it was too late to do anything at this point. I don't know if this is relevant or caused the problem. Anyway, when I got onto the log in screen, my picture was chess pieces, not my normal picture, and when I tried to log in, I got a message that was something along the lines of this...
"Windows could not load your user profile. You will be logged onto the default user. Check if you are connected to your network. If problem persists, contact your administrator.
DETAIL-System could not find specified file"
So, I had none of my programs in the start menu, not even paint or cmd or any system tools. None of my music, pictures, nothing. I went into the C:/ drive, and into my documents and settings expecting to find my files, but they weren't there. My sound wont work either, or adobe flash player, so I can't watch videos on youtube. I can only access programs by creating a shortcut on my desktop, and they don't even work half the time.
I tried running chkdsk again, nothing. I tried booting up in safe mode. I only have one user account, and in safe mode, there was that user account, and administrator, I tried getting into administrator, it logged me into the default account, likewise with the other account.
Oh, and when I boot up normally, the message no longer appears, it just logs me onto the default account.
I tried creating another user account, and when I try and log onto that, it just gives me the same message, except instead of saying DETAIL-System cannot find specified file, it tells me DETAIL-Access is denied. I thought making the account an administrator would fix this. It didn't.
I also wanted to do a system restore, however, I don't have a restore point...
What on earth is wrong with my computer?! I had some very important documents, pictures etc., is there any way to get them back?! How can I get my account back?

moreResolved Question: dreamscapes art project... need ideas?
Hey(: for art, we're starting a new unit. it's surrealism. We're supposed to do a dream scape of some sort and have a few different options on what to do. '1. make it fly-any object that should be rooted to the ground, put out of place in the air. ex. a castle in the sky.
2. out of place- taking a subject and placing it in an environment where it would never be seen. ex. a stereo in a library.
3. Change size to the extreme. Ex a flower among skyscrapers, or a man as tall as a chess piece on a chessboard.
4. change what it's made of. ex. cast iron butterfly.
5. make holes in subjects, or cause the background objects to overlap foreground objects.
That's it.. if any of you have any ideas other then the ones mentioned i would really appreciate it!! :D thanks!! Bye, Amy<3

moreResolved Question: Where can I find replacement chess pieces.?
So I just broke a really importent chess piece that belongs to my Mom's boyfriend & I feel REALLY bad. I'ts from Athens, Greece & worth over $250, obviously I'm going to tell him but I would like to make it up. I have way mor than enough money lieing around for no good reason so if anyone knows where I can maybe find a replacement please tell me. If it helps the chess piece was made of stone (I think) and was of a brown/gold color. There are guys holding tridents (probably neptune), a women in armor, soldiers, and some horses. Some parts like the soldiers helmet, the horses mane, and neptunes tunic, are blue. I would take a look at the bottom for further info. but with my butterfingers.... well I'm not about to pick anything importent up anytime soon. So please answer if you can, I feel absolutly terrible & although the one piece (wich is a horse by the way) is fixable I know it will never be the same & want to show I'm sorry.

moreResolved Question: Numerical Chess. Is this a game for the future.?
I have devised a new way of playing chess with numbers. The pieces for each player would be like checkers but with numbers 1 to 16 on top. Since these values will change during the game, they should be written on the pieces in an easily changed way.
Players alternately place the even numbers on the back rank in any order. Then they place the odd numbers, again alternately, on the rank in front. This placing of the pieces could be as important as the play. I think that the fact white has to declare positions before black may, to some extent, nullify the advantage of first move. When play starts the odd numbers move as bishops along the diagonals. The even numbers move as rooks along ranks and files.
When pieces are captured they are not only removed from the board but the value of the capturing piece is increased by 1. This means that if an odd number makes a capture it changes to an even number so its future moves will be like a rook. Similarly, an even numbered piece making a capture has its value increased by 1 and so its future moves will be like a bishop.
The game ends with a win for the player with the last piece on the board, although I think that this is an unlikely outcome. The other way a game would end is if both players had made the same specified number of consecutive moves, say 5, without a capture. Then the player with the higher total is the winner. A draw is possible but I think much less likely than in the conventional game.
Of course, this could be played on smaller or larger boards. The smallest possible would be 4 by 4 with no spaces between the players pieces so the first move must be a capture. I think that even this size board has scope for interesting play.
I wonder whether this game would involve the same depth of tactics and skill as the conventional game. What do you think?I meant that each player would have 8 pieces on a 4 by 4 board, and 12 on a 6 by 6 board, etc.Placement would be important because it might determine which pieces are captured first. Remember, assuming player ends with the last piece, after 5 pairs of no capture moves, you add up the scores of those remaining to determine the winner.I meant assuming that NO player ends with the last piece, you count up those remaining to determine the winner.Value of pieces is important. The fact that the #1 can knock out the #16 will help when adding up the final scores. An alternative idea is that when capturing, a piece increases its value not just by 1, but by the value of the captured piece.Skonhet. There aren't any links because I only thought this up a couple of days ago.T.S. I think that matters aren't as simple as you suggest. If white's first move is a capture, black does not have to recapture. He could do a different capture of his own. Which would be best would depend on the value of the pieces.William. I'm not suggesting that it replace chess, but that it may be an interesting game in its own right.

My family is a chess board
Each piece serves a purposewith individual strengths but collective ingenuity
My father is the king
Taking slow, tactical steps
Without him the game is over
Check mate.
My mother is queen
Versatile and free willed
The strongest player in the game
Never willing to loose the battle
She sets a strong foot forward
Making an everlasting impressionOnce lost, all hope is gone
My brother, he is the pawn
His ability easily disregarded
but a strong defender
Always two steps ahead
Treading valiantly
Always protecting.
And I am the rook
determined to serve.

moreResolved Question: I need Help someone please help me......................................................?
Hello I need about one more paragraph to complete this essay someone PLEASE help me...you can Include examples..........Chess is a game that is played between two people on opposite sides of a board that has 64 checkered styled squares. Each person starts the game with16 pieces. The goal of the game is to checkmate (capture) the other persons king by trying to use the other 15 pieces to take away the opponents 15. I believe this game teaches children that there are always benefits and consequences for every decision you make. That’s important because it will help them to plan and think about what they’re going to do before they do it. Chess also teaches children that sometimes it is necessary to take risks and sacrifice. Chess teaches patience because you have to wait for your opponent to move before you do. If the child really likes to play chess it can teach them the value of working hard and what they get out of it. That skill will be very important for children when they are in school and all throughout their lives because they will know through hard work and persistence they will succeed.
moreResolved Question: What tools would be best for hand carving a wood chess set?
I've been interested in hand carving my own wood chess set and board but have no wood carving experience. A chess set has 64 pieces and I think that could be very hard on the hands without the right tools for small wood carving, so I'd like to know what kind of tools would be best for that. Also I would be appreciative of any advice on the type of wood to use and/or tips on staining/glossing.

moreResolved Question: How did the labels king and queen get switched in the game of chess?
In chess the most powerful fighting piece is the 'queen' while the 'king' runs and hides. This is obviously backwards from reality. Was it political satire? Mediaeval feminism? I have always loved the world of Harry Potter. While the premise isn't original at all, Harry Potter still manages to have little bits of unique ideas in it. Here's a list of unique things only to Harry Potter:

- Pictures and paintings move, and some can even talk to you
- Chess has actual pieces that move on its own, and can hate or like the player
- Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, candy that can taste like anything
- Some doors don't open unless you ask them nicely
- Candles float in the grand hall, and the ceiling shows the outdoor sky

I know is long but i really need help, i have to turn this paper by tomorrow, I already went through everything a few times and i can find errors. I will appreciate if somebody could help me thank you =).
My mom always says that I remind her of her mother because my grandma and I are exactly alike in many ways. We both like cooking, playing strategy games and the way I discipline my son, it resembles of the way she used to discipline me and my sister when we were little.
Ever since I was little my grandma used to take care of me and my sister because my mom was always working. She thought me all I know about cooking. I remember I started to have an interest in cooking when I was five years old and when my grandma was in the kitchen cooking, I was always right there with her just so she could teach me new recipes. Now in days I’m the only one that cooks in my house except for Saturdays and Sundays, those are my free days, but I don’t mind at all because I just love cooking and I like when every time my family says that my food taste just like my grandma’s, because we all miss her and it just make us think that she’s still with us.
I remember the first day my grandma thought me how to play chess. It was a hot day and we were sitting in the living room. I remember she asked me if I wanted to play chess with her, I told her that I didn’t know how to play and she said that she would teach me. She started to explaining me the names of the pieces and how they move. She though me that the knight move like an “L”, that the King can only move one place at a time, that the queen can move wherever it wanted to, that the rook can only move straight not diagonal, that the pawn at first can move two or one time forward and after that just only one time and always forward never back, and that the bishop can only move diagonal. After she explained me the basics we started to play and at first I was always loosing, but after a while I started to understand the game better and I started to win. Now every time me and my boyfriend play chess, it makes me remember the time I used to play with my grandma; she used to love playing chess, that was her favorite game and now it’s my favorite game too.
Other thing my grandma and I have in common, it’s the way I discipline my child. My mom says that it resembles of the way my grandma used to discipline me and my sister when we were little. Every time my son is doing something he’s not supposed to, I always give him a mean look and he immediately stops doing it, but sometimes it doesn’t work and when that happen I just tell him to stop or he will see. If he doesn’t stop I just go where he’s at, grab his little hands, look him in the eyes and ask him why he keeps doing something I told him not to do; then I give him a spank in his booty and put him in time out. Then he cries for a while and when he stops crying I ask him, “are you going to keep doing what you was doing?” and then I put him in the floor just to see if he understood and it seems like it works. For example, before he used to mess with the cables behind the TV and now he doesn’t do it anymore. I guess my grandma used to do exactly the same thing with me and my sister when we were little because that’s what my mom told me, but I don’t remember. I don’t even know why I choose this way to discipline my child; it just seems the easiest way for my son to learn that he’s not supposed to do something I told him not to do.
My grandma though me a lot of things when I was little that had helped me a lot throughout my life and I pick up on some of her stuff she used to do and I guess it’s normal because I lived with her for fifteen years. I don’t think there’s nobody out there in the world that looks more like me than my grandma does, not even my mom or my twin sister; just my grandma.
moreResolved Question: In chess can a king move to a space that WOULD be threatened by an enemy piece IF it were not pinned?
I have thought of an ambiguity in the way in which chess rules are usually told. It is said that one cannot place his own king in check.
Imagine this scenario: Black has a king and a pawn. White has a king and a rook. Black's king is on A7, and his/her pawn is on C7. White's king is on E6, and his/her rook is on F7. Obviously Black's pawn is pinned against his/her king, as moving it would create a clear path between his/her king and White's rook.
It's White's move. If he/she moves his/her king to D6, that would usually be illegal, since Black has a pawn on C7. But since the pawn is pinned, it obviously would not be able to take White's king even then.
Is it legal for White to do that then? Would it still be considered self-checking, and therefore illegal?

moreResolved Question: Are these sentences punctuated correctly?
I am writing an English paper and want to make sure I am not making grammar mistakes. Please check these sentences:
During the time of the Renaissance, people played a variation of our chess game called Courier Chess.
When making my Romeo and Juliet board game, I tried to get pieces for Romeo and Juliet that resembled the pieces used in Courier Chess as shown to the right from a painting by Lucas van Leyden.
During the Renaissance period, the people enjoyed playing games of chance and strength.
They played games such as football, which are still played today, and many other variations of ball and spear games.
When making my board game, I tried to stick with traditional colors that were common for clothing and paintings during the time of the Renaissance; I used colors such as reds, yellows, greens, and blues.
I tried to avoid using much pink, which was not a common color, and bright purple.
Please help me! Thanks. Is this sentence an example of parallel structure?
I used roses and flowers, moons and suns, daggers and stars, and lips and birds.
moreResolved Question: Any stop motion movie ideas involving people (ASAP)?
I'm starting a project, making a stop motion video for my class, and we have no idea on what to make it on. Well, it has to involve people, and moving people, and yea usual stop motion things. i've been thinking of this, kinda crappy, but the best I can think of.
Writing a letter without using my hands to my friend in another class, then it gets sent to the wrong person, and that person thought that it was an insult to him, so he chases him, and all. Slaps him, then the guy that the letter was suppose to give to comes to him and slaps him because that was supposed to be a hint to the test + an insult. So they decide to play chess telepathically one day, then one of them lost, so he was pissed because he thought that his friend was cheating, so he used his telepathic ability to throw the pieces with his mind, and they just fly towards him and he runs away from them until a dead end.
Good idea, or do you have a better idea. i suggest that you give me more ideas. Thanks
moreResolved Question: Question on advanced chess rules?
I was playing a game with a friend. It was rather important for both of us, because it was the deciding game in a small chess tournament opposing our respective schools. Anyways, we were playing with 30 minutes on the clock. Towards the end of the game, I had 10 minutes left and he had only about 10 seconds left (wasn't digital, couldn't tell). So, he checked me, but DID NOT say it out loud. I didn't notice he had checked me, and I played another piece. He pointed out this was an illegal move, and claimed he can get an extra minute on the clock for that. This happened again once more. In the end, he finished the game with less than 2 minutes on the clock, with a checkmate. My question is, can you claim extra time on your clock when your opponent plays an illegal move, EVEN if you did not point out that he was in check in the first place. All of these answers are very interesting. I would like to clarify a few details, I do know saying "check" out loud is not obligatory. I'm asking the question, can a time penalty be given to the other player in this particular situation. In reality, my friend pulled out this rule out of his ass, and I just trusted him to know the rules correctly. Turns out there is no such thing as a time penalty for illegal move. And it wasn't a real tournament, but just a friendly match between the chess clubs of our respective colleges.

moreResolved Question: Is America ready for a black president?
After a full year of the Obama administration I think it is plane to see that the United State was unprepared for a black president. The tell tail signs are their on display at our nations capital and all over the USA. The GOP unwillingness to reach any compromise on any of the issue that most concerns the American people. Most hard line republicans are mad over practically everything and anything the liberals might think of turning into law. The creation of a tea party movement, and people yelling for their state to secede are just a few of the things that are happening all around this country. Never before have I witnessed such a divide, with a kind of hatred you can see and smell from the faces of each of the participants in some of the demonstration I have seen on TV.
These people are not just mad that they have lost an election. If this was the case they would have died down by now. Despite what most people are willing to admit, the fact is that these people are mad because they feel the minorities are taking away their county and their way of life. Change, and at this level is just too much for most of these people to under go and their fears and ignorance will cloud their better judgment.
What scares me the most is the future. If the conservatives have their way, nothing will be done on Capital Hill with this administration. And that will suit the conservative moment just fine. But what they seem not to understand is that “what goes around comes around” and two can play it that way. Liberals will not just stand there when the next conservative president steps in the white house. Unless the conservative can win the house and senate with full majority the full sum will be eight years of stale mate and only America stands to loose.
If these people are willing to take that risk then how can they say they love America. A wise man ounce said, “ life is like a game of chess, you can not win without loosing some of your pieces”. What pieces are the conservative willing to let go of. I hope it will not be the most important piece of all “ their faith”.

Some people said they wont because instead of that they'll be making a wolverine (xmen origins) and magneto movie.

And the very2 last scene after the credits (many people didnt realise there is a very last scene), in the hospital Professor X who was lying in the bed suddenly called out Moira's (the attending doctor) name. So he's alive!
Im pretty confident they put the scenes there for a reason. Do u guys think there'll be another sequel to the movie?

It's snowing outside, and I am staying in. I did everything. I was watching the boys getting in sticks for the bonfire through the window, only it got so cold, and it snowed so, they had to leave off. (It still means that we'll go see the bonfire tomorrow). I played chess with myself (with the black kitten watching). I had a really nice check, and really I might have won, if it hadn't been for that nasty Knight, that came wiggling down among my pieces. I watched my cat Dinah washing the face of her white kitten (the black one had been finished with earlier in the afternoon). I tried to wind up the ball of worsted (but the black kitten had a game of romps with it and tangled it all). I untangled it, talked to the black kitten, tried playing "let's pretend" with it (pretended that it was a Red Queen),
talked to it about the Looking-glass House - the room we could see in the mirror, just the same as our drawing room, only the things went the other way. Now I ran out of ideas, and I can't go out because it's so cold and snowing outside. What should I do?
