Resolved Question: Most powerful piece on chess?

I don't get it why should the other pieces protect the king if the queen is the most powerful piece on the board cause i mean the knight is practically even more powerful than the king. more

Resolved Question: Memorial Tattoo words?

I'm getting a king chess piece. Running alongside the king I wanted to get the words 'The king that will never be kicked from his throne' I don't really like the way it sounds so I'm trying to think of other ways to say it that has the same meaning. Does anyone have any ideas? more

Voting Question: How specifically does prayer work out?

Let's say someone is out of work and desperately needs a job so they pray and get it. How specifically does this work out? Does God use his powers to get inside the supervisor's mind and tell them to hire that person? What about free will? Since God is omniscient, he knows exactly how hard he would have to try in order for that person to get the job. If the boss doesn't listen, this means God intentionally didn't try hard enough. Essentially, the boss would be like a chess piece that in this context to accomplish the request in the prayer. How do you personally think this all works out? Thank you for your answers. more

Resolved Question: a question for pool (snooker) lovers.....?

I only know snooker or pool or billiards (don't even know if they are any different) through some online games so I don't have a lot of information. My questions is that if there is a way in which a player controls opponent's game? What I mean to say is: A very skilled player starts the game and manages to put in all of them, it doesn't mean that the opponent sucks? Maybe if opponent got a chance, he would have done the same thing. I don't know if I should compare it to chess. In chess, you place your pieces in a way so your opponent can not attack you but how do we control our opponent's game in pool? Thank you in advance and I apologize if it's a stupid question.I just realized that I have a lot of grammatic errors....Please, don't mind those :P more

Resolved Question: Is debating creationists on the topic of evolution rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon?

"Debating creationists on the topic of evolution is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon — it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory" I have found this to be the truest thing i have ever heard. Eg. Me: There is overwhelming evidence for evolution. Him: There are no transitional fossils!!!1!!!one!!! Me: No, there are many transitional fossils. Not all organisms have this because a lot of mammals don't form fossils at all, but for almost all fossilisable (made up word) organisms there are transitional fossils. Him: Liar Me: No i am not lying Him: Well if evolution is true then why are there still apes? Me: We did not evolve from apes. The early great apes (we are great apes) split off in 2 separate paths, one leading to humans and one leading to monkeys. And even if it were true that we evolved from monkeys that still wouldn't be a valid argument. Animals adapt to fit their environment, if monkeys stay in the trees and are perfectly adapted they won't change. Him: That makes no sense Me: That makes perfect sense to anybody with the will/brains to understand it Him: Well if evolution is true why are we here? Did life just appear? Me: No, that's abiogenesis, not evolution you are refuting (badly). Evolution deals with the how different types of animal came into being. It does not deal with how life first started. Him: How come you never see bears give birth to whales if evolution is true? Me: It doesn't work like that at all. That is a total basterdisation strawman of evolution. Him: Your stupid Me: Oh irony... Him: Whats irony mean? Me: It is a word meaning... Him: Hey guys i won the debate easily! He started talking in french because he was out of arguments because i epicly pwn'd him! His freinds: Yeah that guy was an idiot. Evolution violates the second law of termotinamiks! Me: Why do i even bother..In retrospect i do think that the author of that quote SHOULD apologise for likening pigeons' chess-playing skills to creationists' arguments. I'm sure there are many pigeons that are deeply offended.Josh: You are not doing anything to repeal that stereotype. You do not know what racism means! Racism is when you treat a person differently because of their race. Not because of their scientific (or psuedoscientific) beliefs. You are an idiot.PARTYMAR: That is the worst analogy i have ever heard. I would look at a beautiful house and go "that must have been the result of a couple of years of construction. This is supported by the evidence that I SAW PHOTOS OF CONSTRUCTION WORKERS WORKING HERE. It did not just appear".Smarty McFly: I wouldn't mind debating you. When did i mention atheism at all? When did i mention religion? I am insulting creationists, not christians. There is a big difference. So stop calling me a "stupid atheist". My evidence for transitional fossils IS BASED ON THE FACT THAT THERE HAVE BEEN TRANSITIONAL FOSSILS FOUND, and the ones that haven't is because it has been proven that these organisms don't fossilise well. Josh: Sorry i misread your first statement. I thought you said "That sir is blatant racism." sorry. BUT i do not know anybody who has had a debate with a creationist that wasn't like this. This is because there are no arguments for creationism that are legitimate. I agree with what you said about racism, but this is different. This is categorising people based on actions or beliefs, but all races are the same. Would you say all people who think the earth is flat are ignorant? Ignorant in that area anyway? Yes you would. Creationism = flat earth-ism. more

Voting Question: What does my weird dream mean?

In my dream I was playing chess. Each time I moved a piece however I saw red spell checker lines surrounding the square my piece moved to, I also felt incredible pain each time I saw the red line. I told my opponent that I was resigning but He started laughing. He said "You can never resign, just make one more move." He continued chanting one more move over and over again. As he did a crowd of people surrounded us. I tried to stand up, but a trap door opened and I started falling down. I landed in a jail cell. The person sitting next to me was my english teacher. He said "You can try and escape but I'll catch you." Then I woke up. more

Resolved Question: can youth change society?

So for a school project to finish our apartheid unit i am doing a photo essay about the power of youth to change society, and their duty to do so. Okay, I would really appreciate your help! I'm a little freaked out. It's one nights worth, but in flashes. It's not a continuoes story line. Resolved Question: Numerical Chess. Is this a game for the future.?

I have devised a new way of playing chess with numbers. The pieces for each player would be like checkers but with numbers 1 to 16 on top. Since these values will change during the game, they should be written on the pieces in an easily changed way. Players alternately place the even numbers on the back rank in any order. Then they place the odd numbers, again alternately, on the rank in front. This placing of the pieces could be as important as the play. I think that the fact white has to declare positions before black may, to some extent, nullify the advantage of first move. When play starts the odd numbers move as bishops along the diagonals. The even numbers move as rooks along ranks and files. When pieces are captured they are not only removed from the board but the value of the capturing piece is increased by 1. This means that if an odd number makes a capture it changes to an even number so its future moves will be like a rook. Similarly, an even numbered piece making a capture has its value increased by 1 and so its future moves will be like a bishop. The game ends with a win for the player with the last piece on the board, although I think that this is an unlikely outcome. The other way a game would end is if both players had made the same specified number of consecutive moves, say 5, without a capture. Then the player with the higher total is the winner. A draw is possible but I think much less likely than in the conventional game. Of course, this could be played on smaller or larger boards. The smallest possible would be 4 by 4 with no spaces between the players pieces so the first move must be a capture. I think that even this size board has scope for interesting play. I wonder whether this game would involve the same depth of tactics and skill as the conventional game. What do you think?I meant that each player would have 8 pieces on a 4 by 4 board, and 12 on a 6 by 6 board, etc.Placement would be important because it might determine which pieces are captured first. Remember, assuming player ends with the last piece, after 5 pairs of no capture moves, you add up the scores of those remaining to determine the winner.I meant assuming that NO player ends with the last piece, you count up those remaining to determine the winner.Value of pieces is important. The fact that the #1 can knock out the #16 will help when adding up the final scores. An alternative idea is that when capturing, a piece increases its value not just by 1, but by the value of the captured piece.Skonhet. There aren't any links because I only thought this up a couple of days ago.T.S. I think that matters aren't as simple as you suggest. If white's first move is a capture, black does not have to recapture. He could do a different capture of his own. Which would be best would depend on the value of the pieces.William. I'm not suggesting that it replace chess, but that it may be an interesting game in its own right. more

Resolved Question: Chess related issue....?

Me and my brother were playing it yesterday and it was the final, after playing two long games. It came to a stage where his Knight was able to attack my King piece, but I did not move my King away from that particular spot, because as far as I understand you are meant to say 'Check'. So he didn't say it and I moved a different piece, he hit my King and said I win, and we had a long debate about it, and I said he was wrong. So who was right? Thanks people, I just wanted to clarify that 'Check' is a commonly known phrase in Chess referring to the King being in danger. However, through researching, I've came to understand that it is more professional and better to not say Check as it hints a threat therefor the person can avoid the attack which you don't want. So thanks :) more

Resolved Question: please can somebody help me with my punctuation, english is my second language...?

I know is long but i really need help, i have to turn this paper by tomorrow, I already went through everything a few times and i can find errors. I will appreciate if somebody could help me thank you =). My mom always says that I remind her of her mother because my grandma and I are exactly alike in many ways. We both like cooking, playing strategy games and the way I discipline my son, it resembles of the way she used to discipline me and my sister when we were little. Ever since I was little my grandma used to take care of me and my sister because my mom was always working. She thought me all I know about cooking. I remember I started to have an interest in cooking when I was five years old and when my grandma was in the kitchen cooking, I was always right there with her just so she could teach me new recipes. Now in days I’m the only one that cooks in my house except for Saturdays and Sundays, those are my free days, but I don’t mind at all because I just love cooking and I like when every time my family says that my food taste just like my grandma’s, because we all miss her and it just make us think that she’s still with us. I remember the first day my grandma thought me how to play chess. It was a hot day and we were sitting in the living room. I remember she asked me if I wanted to play chess with her, I told her that I didn’t know how to play and she said that she would teach me. She started to explaining me the names of the pieces and how they move. She though me that the knight move like an “L”, that the King can only move one place at a time, that the queen can move wherever it wanted to, that the rook can only move straight not diagonal, that the pawn at first can move two or one time forward and after that just only one time and always forward never back, and that the bishop can only move diagonal. After she explained me the basics we started to play and at first I was always loosing, but after a while I started to understand the game better and I started to win. Now every time me and my boyfriend play chess, it makes me remember the time I used to play with my grandma; she used to love playing chess, that was her favorite game and now it’s my favorite game too. Other thing my grandma and I have in common, it’s the way I discipline my child. My mom says that it resembles of the way my grandma used to discipline me and my sister when we were little. Every time my son is doing something he’s not supposed to, I always give him a mean look and he immediately stops doing it, but sometimes it doesn’t work and when that happen I just tell him to stop or he will see. If he doesn’t stop I just go where he’s at, grab his little hands, look him in the eyes and ask him why he keeps doing something I told him not to do; then I give him a spank in his booty and put him in time out. Then he cries for a while and when he stops crying I ask him, “are you going to keep doing what you was doing?” and then I put him in the floor just to see if he understood and it seems like it works. For example, before he used to mess with the cables behind the TV and now he doesn’t do it anymore. I guess my grandma used to do exactly the same thing with me and my sister when we were little because that’s what my mom told me, but I don’t remember. I don’t even know why I choose this way to discipline my child; it just seems the easiest way for my son to learn that he’s not supposed to do something I told him not to do. My grandma though me a lot of things when I was little that had helped me a lot throughout my life and I pick up on some of her stuff she used to do and I guess it’s normal because I lived with her for fifteen years. I don’t think there’s nobody out there in the world that looks more like me than my grandma does, not even my mom or my twin sister; just my grandma. more

Resolved Question: Is the Middle East no more then a play ground to the USA?

Is the Middle East no more then a play ground to the USA? Ok im not Iranian or Arab anything and i dont want to hear no jingoistic or patriotic piffle of freedom because that crap just dont fly with me no more. Looking from outside its quite obvious that the Middle East countries and the people are no more then chess pieces? am i right? When we wanted to hurt the Iranians in the 1980s we used Saddam ? right When we wanted to get rid of him again in 2003 we used the Iranians and shia Iraqis for support? When we now want to curb Irans nuclear program Hillary Clinton is right over their with the Arab sheikhs in Saudi Arabia, and Gulf countries to bring about another coalition against Iran? Resolved Question: Bored at home, what should I do?

It's snowing outside, and I am staying in. I did everything. I was watching the boys getting in sticks for the bonfire through the window, only it got so cold, and it snowed so, they had to leave off. (It still means that we'll go see the bonfire tomorrow). I played chess with myself (with the black kitten watching). I had a really nice check, and really I might have won, if it hadn't been for that nasty Knight, that came wiggling down among my pieces. I watched my cat Dinah washing the face of her white kitten (the black one had been finished with earlier in the afternoon). I tried to wind up the ball of worsted (but the black kitten had a game of romps with it and tangled it all). I untangled it, talked to the black kitten, tried playing "let's pretend" with it (pretended that it was a Red Queen), talked to it about the Looking-glass House - the room we could see in the mirror, just the same as our drawing room, only the things went the other way. Now I ran out of ideas, and I can't go out because it's so cold and snowing outside. What should I do? more

Resolved Question: Old dream of mine; significant to me; what it mean?

This is a dream I had 10 years ago; still remember vividly I was trapped in a room with no exit and I had only my friends with me. There was a moving walkway going up, but it was angled like stairs. There were stairs going down, but missing the first, second, third, fifth, and eighth steps. There was a keyhole under where I was standing. All of my friends were chess pieces. I walked onto the upward staircase, and my feet were stuck to it. The stairs began moving up like an escalator, but the stairs weren't moving, only the belt on top of them I found a sword and killed a thingy. It exploded and a key popped out and hit me in the head. I tried going back down the staircase, but i couldnt I went left into a door into an underground system of passages. I stepped onto a rock, which pushed downward. The entryway closed I met one of my friends down there, asked how he got down there, and said an entrance had opened up. The others were nowhere to be found. We eventually found the exit, navigating through all the obstacles in this passage. We went down the staircase that was missing the first, second, third, fifth, and eighth steps, and fell into a vortex. I woke up, so i dont know the rest of the dreamI was about 5 at the time I was very creative, and could entertain myself easily by putting myself in scenarios that were original, and had many mystical aspects more

Resolved Question: In Chess, what does this mean?

My friend and I, while playing chess, got to a point where he wasn't in check, but for him to move his only remaining piece (his king) would put him into check. Here is a picture: tinyurl (dot) com (slash) y9b28vs (Change the "dot" to a period and the "slash" to a forward slash for the link to work) The last move was moving my white queen to its current location. The K stands for king, the P for pawn, and the Q for queen--if that wasn't obvious. Does the black team just not move in a situation like this? Does it end the game? What happens? more

Resolved Question: is there a way to block those adds that appear on top of yahoo chess?

this is my problem when playing blitz chess at yahoo the time control is quite short some times i play 1 minute control meaning every second counts but those adds slow down the movement of the pieces taking precious seconds away from my game time which in more than several occasions have lead to defeat because of time up , another severe annoyance of this adds is that they make the screen jump so in quite several occasions the jumping happens right when i make my move making the piece land on a losing square . i have several examples of this situation that have happened to me i email my games almost all the time for future analysis and it certainly is frustrating that because of those adds i end up losing in won positions more than once i have lost right as im doing the check mate move . this adds are just too annoying i am most certainly not going to buy none of the stuff that they offer. more

Resolved Question: Is this fair to the mother yes or no?

A judge Wednesday morning sentenced a woman to 14 years in prison for taking her daughter to Spain and refusing to bring her back to her custodial father in Hasbrouck Heights. “Two days before Christmas, that girl has no father and has no mother,” Superior Court Judge Donald R. Venezia told Maria Jose Carrascosa. “What you did in this case is 100 percent despicable.” Carrascosa wept as a furious Venezia blasted her for using her daughter as “some kind of “chess piece.” “You think this is some kind of opportunity to get back at your ex-husband,” the judge said. “You are prepared to spend the rest of your life in prison so your ex-husband won’t see his daughter.” Carrascosa and her ex-husband, Peter Innes, were in the middle of a custody dispute over their only daughter, Victoria, when Carrascosa took the girl to Spain in 2005. Courts in New Jersey ordered her to bring the girl back, but Carrascosa refused and has been held at the Bergen County Jail for more than three years on contempt of court. The case has been heard by all levels of state and federal courts in the United States, all of which upheld the orders that require Carrascosa to return the child. Diplomats and judges from both countries have also held meetings to find a solution but to no avail so far. Bergen County Prosecutors meanwhile charged Carrascosa with criminal interference with custody and contempt of court. She was convicted of all charges in November. Carrascosa maintains that it is the Spanish courts that have jurisdiction over the case, and that the courts there have ruled that Victoria cannot leave Spain until she turns 18. Victoria, who is now nine years old, has not seen either of her parents since 2005. “That is the most moronic decision I have ever heard,” Venezia said. Innes said he hoped Carrascosa’s sentence will send a message to other parents in similar situations. “Today, you will speak not only for me and my child, but for over 2,000 other abducted American children and their law-abiding American parents,” Innes said to Venezia. “You will speak for many more children who are at risk of being abducted in the future.” Venezia imposed two consecutive seven-year terms, rejecting Carrascosa’s argument that she was a victim of “malicious prosecution.” The sentence is a flat term, which means there is no mandatory minimum period that she has to serve before being eligible for parole. Even if she qualifies for parole, however, Carrascosa could remain behind bars under the contempt order that requires her to be held until she returns the child. “If you bring the child back, I will be the first one to reconsider the sentence,” Venezia said. Resolved Question: Was Palpatine in Return of the Jedi acting pretty stupid?

Mistake 1: Being on the second Death Star. I mean the first one blew up, and this one is only 75% done. .. I mean, who in their right mind would be on that thing? Mistake 2: Should've pulled a Saddam Hussein and sent a fake-Palpatine in your place. Mistake 3: Huge weak spot. Did you learn nothing from the first Death Star? Vents, plural, smaller, harder for spaceships to fly through and B your SU. Mistake 4: There's exactly 1 lightly defended shield generator. Either more troops (you have a whole empire remember, no need to be stingy), more walking tanks, or more generators. Mistake 5: You're pretty near death and not that strong, it's not the greatest idea to pit 2 stronger Jedi against eachother in life-or-death brawl without at least some security guards around. I mean sure you've got Vader under your thumb but why risk having a father-and-son tag-team? Either for good or evil, they'd surely smack you down. Mistake 6: Or at least wait until the star war going on right outside your window is finished. The outcome is kindof important. You're their leader, you should be leading, not playing space-gladiators. Or at the very least fleeing when you realize how screwed your team is. Mistake 7: You've put every major chess piece into this conflict against an enemy with dwindling numbers, and they still managed to beat you. Fuzzy primitive midgets with sticks are killing your soldiers and tanks. Either your training program sucks or something because there's no way you should lose. Mistake 8: How blind are you about your second-in-command? He was talking of killing you back in Revenge of the Sith, he's had at least 1 secret apprentice groomed behind your back, not to mention the estranged children he's planning on grooming. Considering Palpatine can read minds this ignorance is inexcusable.#1: They all-out-attacked the first Death Star for no other reason to destroy it; they didn't even factor Vader into the plans. #2: Bash? I was just analyzing; maybe you didn't understand my question. #3: Fair enough, I don't study schematics of imaginary machines to properly enjoy a movie. #4: A whole legion? WOW. A whole empire at his disposal and he sent an ENTIRE legion? That's gotta be like what, 30, 40 soldiers to guard one of the most costly machines ever built? Considering the last one blew up you'd think he'd put a bit more security into it. #5 and #6: If you say so.. If I had set up such an elaborate trap to lure in the rebellion I'd have done some battle meditation to boost my soldiers' skills, not distracted myself completely with a personal matter.#7: So you're comparing an army of plastic-wearing clones and an army of furry midgets to David and Goliath...? I was giving you the benefit of the doubt till know, but that's just a stupid comparison. Just because somebody included a race of monkeys with marty-stu-like-talents who against all odds can defeat trained soldiers doesn't mean it's a good idea. And FYI, just because a parable in a religious text exists doesn't mean it can be applied to every situation. And even if I didn't what you're talking about it wouldn't be a problem because I'm not Christian and have no reason to study Christian mythology!! ... You realize the world doesn't revolve around your religion, right?#8: Palpatine should've known about Vader's proposed betrayal with Luke at the end of ESP, yes? That's certainly not a prequel, so I guess I was just hoping for some internal consistency between films. And don't pretend that Jedi/Sith can't read minds. Vader used it to figure out Leia was Luke's sister, so unless there's some strange emotion that translates to "Leia is my sister and it's a secret" then it's definitely a mind-reading power. But enough arguing. You are a complete fanboy and would argue a mobius strip if George Lucas wrote one so there's not much point grousing about it, I've wasted too much time already. I'm actually a fan of Star Wars (playing KOTOR2 as we speak) but that doesn't mean I'm going to blindly ignore flaws or use hackneyed excuses to explain away problems. more

Resolved Question: Chess piece puns ...?

I'm making a chess set in my ceramics class, I'm making a humorous pun set, with each piece seeming to be a random object but actually mean something, I have so far a vacuum cleaner for the queen (she queens) and a lion for the king (king of the jungle) and a moon for the knight (self explanatory). If you have any ideas for the castle, bishop and pawns that would help. Or any ideas on the other three... more

Resolved Question: Things that represent the different chess pieces?

I am making a chess set in my high school ceramics class as a christmas present, I want to make funny pieces that seem random but actually have a meaning or a pun. For the Queen I have a vacuum cleaner (the queen queens ;D ) a lion for the kind (king of the jungle) a moon for a knight (self explanitory) I'm not sure what to do for the bishop, castle and pawns... any ideas will help, even ones for the ones I have already thought up. more

Resolved Question: Having trouble thinking abstractly, what does it mean?

I am 18, and I think very structurally. I base my thinking off of formulas I already know. For example, a friend of mine could look at a chess game, and using abstract thinking he could anticipate any variable number of moves I could make in my turn and then find the best option for him before his turn approached. I, on the other hand, can't anticipate or see what he would likely do and so move a piece to where it seems safest based on prior experience. Only when he makes his turn could I anticipate my next move, whereas he could process several variables before a move was made. Is this normal to have some people who think more deeply abstractly, and some people who think more concretely, more structurally and can't manipulate variables in their head and know the outcome? Or is there something wrong in that I cannot abstractly see concepts and manipulate variables? more

Voting Question: Is this a good book report ? 9th grade...please tell me honestly what u think of it! thanks.?

Harry Potter is a sixteen-year-old wizard, who attended a school named Hogwarts School of Witch Craft and Wizardry. He grew up with his aunt and uncle, because his parents died when he was one. Harry has short blalck hair, and wears glasses, he also has a scar on his forehead given to him by Lord Voldemort. Harry is kinda tall about 5'7, and enjoyed playing Quidetch, he was the team captain. He loved spending time with his friends, because he thought they were more like family to him. They spent alot of time together in the restricted area of the library, and talking in the Griffandor common room. Harry was sitting at home with his uncle Vernon, when professor Albus Dumbledore came to bring him back to Hogwarts. It was very rare for Dumbledore to go and get a student himself, that's because he needed Harry to accompany him on a trip to persuade retired Hogwarts professor Horace Slughorn to return to teaching.Slughorn became the Potions teacher. Harry and Ron are able to enroll in his class. When Katie Bell is almost killed while attempting to deliver a cursed necklace under the influence of the Imperius Curse. Harry becomes suspicious of Draco Malfoy, because of overhearing several of his conversations, trying to hurt students at Hogwarts, Harry had to Defeat Malfoy in a battle but Malfoy got away. Meanwhile Dumbledore privately tutors Harry, using his Pensieve to show Harry memories of Voldemort's past. Lord Voldemort was the darkest wizard ever known. He was born in an orphanage, and lived there until he was eleven,he was given the name Tom Riddle after his father, that was his mothers last and final wish. He was very strange and didn't have any friends, nor did he want any, he new he had magical powers since he was younger, and used them when he was angry to hurt people. Since Voldemort killed Harry's parents and did not get killed he was known as The-Chosen-One, Harry's life long dream is to kill Voldemort, and to do so he needed to know alot about him. Voldemort split his soul into six fragments attached to objects called Horcruxes, while leaving a seventh piece in his body, in order to achieve immortality. As long as any of the Horcruxes exists Voldemort cannot be killed. Two Horcruxes have been destroyed - Tom Riddle's diary, and Marvolo Gaunt's ring by Dumbledore. Three of the remaining Horcruxes are a locket formerly owned by Salazar Slytherin, a cup formerly owned by Helga Hufflepuff, and the snake Nagini. Dumbledore thinks that the sixth unidentified Horcrux may be something associated with Gryffindor or Ravenclaw, as Riddle would have wanted something from each of the houses of Hogwarts, which he regarded as his home. Harry has two best friends names Ron, and Harmione. Ron is very tall, and has long red hair, he has three borthers, and one sister. There names are Fred, George, Bill, and ginny. He enjoyed playing Quidetch mostly because Harry was the team captain, ron also loved playing wizard chess. Harry's other best friend Harmione is a very characteristic person. She has long brown hair, kinda short, and has brown eyes. She is a muggle born (which means one of her parents isn't a wizard). She is a prefect, and has top grades at Hogwarts, she's amazingly good at spells, especially wingardium leviosus, which is a spell where you can make objects fly. more

Resolved Question: Should I make revisions to my English memoir?

Memoir: Photographs of Insanity Photographs are such an overestimated vision. These illustrated memories exploited in the manifestation of one’s innocence, are imbalanced with the cruel presence remote from their domain. My fascination to dissolve inside their surface and evade my present misfortunate existence is a farfetched delusion. The ramen noodles known as life will never be discarded for tea and honey. Thus I am clasped to this present nightmare, not my vivid childhood. One dimension encountered was supernatural. What seems to be a photography error foreshadowed the fate of my future. This scene appears to be a typical family photograph as I am clothed in an olive polo top and exposing a delighted expression. Although my brother is grasping a bundle of balloons that horrifyingly disappear into the darkness. This is no coincidence. It symbolizes my unconscious ignorance of an ill-fated future. A divine outside source must have cast this wretchedness upon me for it remains in the darkness of my despair, in the form of a chandelier, illuminating the dusky shade to allege its potency in my punishment. Another dimension of my lifetime is in the form of naive child. Do you notice anything remarkable concerning my attire? My overalls are the stereotypical garments of the working class in which I would grow older to glorify in my late teenage years. As I became wiser with time, the intensity of my desire to purchase trends and capitalist name brands has grown. But my disdain for consumer culture has consistently existed in my heart. Only recently have I refrained from the outsiders’ sense of security in the form of conformity. I am an introverted creature without a pack to support me but demonstrate creativity in survival skills. The final dimension depicts a celebration of my advancement in life. As a young man, I am agitated that my parents granted me awards fathomed as “Birthday presents” for my ailing accomplishments. If I were the arch-nemesis of the superhero encrusted on the ornamental table cloth, currency would not be a desire. In other words, life would be neither longing nor agonizing if your antics “did not make sense.” Therefore, I soon conceived that I would be following in the footsteps of the Joker. The Joker’s superficial charm, lack of empathy, and failure to plan ahead position him as the most admirable criminal mastermind of a fictitious existence. When I was three years old, as displayed by the number of candles upon my cake, I viewed Batman as a symbol of hope. Along the years I grasped the judgment that Bruce Wayne was an over-privileged billionaire whom was able to demolish the weak and defenseless poverty-stricken citizens with his wealth. As I viewed the films Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, both pieces convey highbrow neglect toward the homeless through justifying abuse, and glorifying their downfall. My parents could not fathom that I would idolize an individual of insanity. They were too abstracted in the photograph to understand my inner wolf within sheep clothing. As my bitterness for humankind grew, I started talking, dying my face, and exhibiting horrid mannerisms of the Joker. I started to possess an over-obsessive domination of his influence over mine that one would find irritating. I exhibited his traits in every aspect of my course. Finally, I created a humorous concern for my behavior as I bestowed joker cards among my peers. I felt unstoppable. My existence was majestic under the shell of an angry dog let off the leash. But it would not last forever. Being engulfed in his character gave me a parallel perspective on life. It taught me that life has no meaning, material possessions are worthless, and there is no reason to fear others since everyone, rich or poor is like a pawn in a chess game. I was convinced that they could not hide behind their luxurious cosmetic treatment, flamboyant attire, social superiority and unearned blessings. They were still a human body. I did not wish to arrive at this point. You could say that I experienced emotional discourse in the wrong place by the wrong person, or I was not blessed with the same opportunities as everyone else. Whatever the half-witted alibi is for my odd behavior, nobody deserves to adopt my state of mind. As I bethink upon my vivacious birthday party as an adolescent, I inquire my current character. I call into question “Why so serious?” more

Resolved Question: Where can I find the best available chess program?

Hey, I've been looking for the strongest chess program available for purhcase. I've already tested Rybka, Shredder, and Chessmaster, and they failed very terribly. I beat Rybka a full piece up at maximum strength, Shredder was slightly tougher, but Chessmaster 10th edition always manages to beat me by one pawn or so. Anyway, please note that these are all demos, and I'm certain they're not playing at full capacity in the demo mode, but anyway, I want one that is as strong, or stronger than a grandmaster. (By the way, I'm aware there is no higher title than GM, other than world champion.) You understand what I mean though.... Anyway, any advice on a demo I could test out, then purchase would be appreciated. I'm in Ontario, and if you could give me a link, it would be greatly appreciated. more

Resolved Question: original covers of the twilight saga.?

i was told that the covers of the twilight saga stood for the main idea of the book, like for example, breaking dawn has the picture of a queen (the chess piece) on a chess board and a pawn behind it, which meant (i guess) that even though she thought she was the weakest vampire ( which is the pawn ) since she has no special powers, it turns out that she is the strongest of all, because she has the power to sheild.... anyways can you tell me what the rest of the covers mean, and correct me if i'm wrong. because i totally think i am. :P :D more

Resolved Question: Questions about Lsd/acid trips?

I know that you can see the walls kinda like breath but can a building like have eyes and a mouth and move around when your on a trip? Can objects like chairs, dogs, cats, chess pieces talk to you? If you can see eyes and a mouth on a building, can it talk to you? can the building like kinda open it's mouth which is filled with sharp pointy teeth and say "muahahahaha!" and can it like swallow you? I know that you can see beautiful colours and geometric patterns when your high but can you only see those when you close your eyes or do they like merge with what's real? can objects like chairs float? can time like really travel backwards or faster or slower? how is that even possible? what will happen if you look at the sky? will stuff like angels or something fly down towards you? what about looking at the city skyline? can the buildings change shapes? I heard that listening to music while on a trip is really far out. What do they mean by that? What do see if you watch tv during a trip? Finally, can you get addicted to lsd? more

Resolved Question: I insulted my teacher. What should I do now?

Well, I am aware of the fact that my maths teacher likes me a lot because I am a very good student in mathematics. she has focused a lot of her energy into me so that I reach my potential. Two weeks ago, she decided to have a chess game with me. I refused to play with her simply because I don't like socialising with teachers. Anyway, we played but during the game, I insulted her by saying, "how can you be so good when your brain is at least 50 years old!" After i said that, she packed up her pieces, and then she just walked away. Since then, she has been treating me very coldly in class. I didn't mean to insult her like that. i don't want her to hate me, because she's one of my favourite teachers and she has helped me a lot to get the top marks. So my questions are: 1) Is the teacher really angry with me? 2) what should I say or do, to get her to stop hating me? i dont understand how someone can hate someone for an insult made two weeks ago. Thanks please, no rude comments insulting me or my teacher. also, don't give me the, "who cares if she hates you".Thanks everyone! but how should I apologise? wouldn't it be a bit weird approaching her after not talking to her for two weeks? more

Resolved Question: Want a writing challenge?

Well, here's one. **Using the setting of one book and the characters of one or more other books, tell a story. There isn't a word limit, but I will caution you against making it *too* long, because if your answer is too long, part of it won't show up when you submit it. So I'd also suggest writing it in Word, if you're planning to get lengthy. Or, you could tell a portion of a story. Using (does not mean "briefly mentioning") the following items is optional, but will earn you some brownie points: A big, purple umbrella Sunflowers A platypus A stone bridge Chess or chess pieces/chess board Playing cards The responses will be interesting. Have fun with this! I can't wait to see the replies!@lae: You think you're so clever.@Kristi W: Yes, that is the sort of thing I'm looking for. Nicely done. Hannah Montana and Harry Potter? You'd be hard pressed to find those two together, anywhere else :p@kayleighh: It doesn't make an ounce of sense, but it's so cute! I love how Harry and Ron skipped through the corridors of Hogwarts XD@kayleighh: Yes, I figured :p@Origin: And I'm okay with that :)@Joshms: I don't think this question will stay up for more than a few more days. Y!A only lets you extend expirations once, and I've already done that.... *pokes with a really sharp pencil*@Origin and Joshms: I'm so glad I forced you to answer this. Both of your stories literally made me laugh out loud. But Joshms, I don't think Lizzy would be placed into Hufflepuff- more like Ravenclaw XD And bake you something? Like what? And Origin, since you're so kindly stabbing me with a pencil, I'll get around to this as soon as I can. Promise.@Joshms: Mary wasn't smart, just the opposite of Lydia, which made her seem very refreshing. She was dull, and you could call her practical, except for the fact that she's not. Actually, she's the one who should be in Hufflepuff. Lizzy is clever and intelligent. Definitely Ravenclaw-worthy.Okay, here's mine: In the land of Ingary, normal things did not happen. In fact, the normal thing was for abnormal things to happen, which made Ingary a strange place, indeed. And so this brings us to the middle of a sunflower field, somewhere near the royal city of Kingsbury. There was a loud pop and anyone standing there in that field would have been shocked as lightning to see a tall, blond man with a pointed chin and serious expression appear seemingly from out of nowhere. He drew his brows together as he surveyed his surroundings. It seemed that he did not know where he was. Hoping to get a better idea of his location, he began to work his way out of the field, tightly clutching his wand. The young man was glad to see an opening between the stalks of the sunflowers ahead, but this triumphant feeling lasted only a second longer. As soon as he stepped out into the open, he saw –and he did not have another word for it—a castle which travelled along the smooth, meadowy terrain with four legs. In his confusion, he misjudged the amount of time it would take for the castle to reach him, and before he had really been able to take in the strange thing, the castle had slowed and a door had opened, waiting for him to enter. Though it was a strange building, the man was comforted by the fact that it was obviously magic-propelled (he was very familiar with magic) and by the fact that he knew a number of useful and dangerous spells. And so he entered. The room in which he now stood was small, comfortable, and warm, thanks to the strong fire on the left wall –not at all what he was expecting from such a strange castle. But, then, it was magic and, after all, what is predictable about magic, aside from its unpredictability?“What’s this?” The man turned his head, searching for the source of the voice. “Another guest, Calcifer?” “Don’t look at me,” said—amazingly—the fire, “I’m convinced this house has a mind of its own, Howl, letting random strangers in. But he can’t be bad. Sophie wasn’t.” The man cautiously approached the fire, expecting to see a man’s face in it, for surely one was there by use of floo powder, but there was just a pair of round eyes staring amusedly back. “What’s your name, my good man?” said the man called Howl. He had just come down the stairs on the other side of the room. He had black hair and blue eyes, an odd but attractive combination, and wore fancy, heavily decorated robes. “Draco,” was the answer, “Draco Malfoy.” Draco heard a choking noise come from the fire. “What?” he said, defensively, “think my name’s funny, do you?” “Yes,” said Howl, “in fact, he does. You’ll find that Calcifer is one of the most impolite fire demons you’ll ever meet.”Draco stared at the man. A fire demon? What sort of house—no, what sort of world had he just apparated into? -- There, Origin, happy? You can stop stabbing me, now. -- Picking a best will be extremely difficult since all of these were very entertaining (aside from lae's, that is). So please forgive me if I don't choose yours! more

Resolved Question: Windows Chess Game Problem!?

On "Chess Titans" on Windows Vista I have just finished a game of chess. The CPU player's only piece left on the board is the king. I have king, two knights, queen, one pawn, and one rook. How did I not win? My king was completely safe at the end of the game at the other side of the board. Thanks in advance! more

Resolved Question: Reading my story over again. Help?

I don't know if my story has completely lost it's zest (if it had any in the first place) but it's soooo boring to me. Is it because I've read it over COUNTLESS times and i know what happens or because it is actually boring? I can't tell anymore. XD. people who read it seemed to like it but maybe it was because they were my friends. who knows? i've posted this before but here's the prologue for judgment. i'm editing the 19 chapters after this and this little bit basically has my writing style wrapped into it. Here it is: Lub-dub, lub-dub. I was surprised my heart was still thumping away like an overly-charged battery. I never meant for things to be this way—to slip so completely out of my control. Out of any control. As the seconds go by I can’t feel a thing, my body so numb that even though I hear my heartbeats rippling through my mind I can’t feel my blood pulsing through my veins anymore. The leftover adrenaline from the recent rush of events was giving me a headache and I wanted this to be over soon. Perhaps in the next few seconds if that’s not too much to ask. I didn’t care about the outcome of the plays anymore. I didn’t care if I was gone. All I cared about was that one specific person that shouldn’t even matter to me anymore. Which is downright stupid, I told myself. He doesn’t even care for me anymore. He tried to kill me. I mean, c`mon, I can take a hint. My vision had been knocked dead dark a while back and I had stopped hearing the mess of fights around me. I had been the one unlucky loser, the one person that had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. It wasn’t a gentle thing—having to mull over every last excruciating detail of my life, wondering what could’ve been if I had moved that single chess piece differently, if the dice had fallen in my favor. But that’s what they call falling into fate; you can’t help it. It didn’t matter to me though—my life was over anyway so what was the point in worrying over regrets if you can’t live to fulfill them? Every fragment of my recent memories was flashing through my mind—not a cliché life-flashing-before-your-eyes scenario but just my brain throwing away some insignificant time before it shuts down. I remembered the near-death ones first: Rupert’s shoulder blades popping and crunching out of his back as he doubled over on the ground, bones grinding against cartilage as gossamer inky wings flew out like the night, feathers breathing. I remembered ever so clearly how his piranha teeth grinned as he craned his neck to look up at me in the eyes with his over-dilated dark emerald ones. I remembered the day I got the lighter, that piece of Zippo junk. I remembered flames engulfing me everywhere, nearly charring my clothes and hair to a cinder but some way never seeming to crisp my skin. I remembered a lot of little things too: a shattered, spider-webbed window in front of my eyes, Serenity smiling up at me as she went to her first day of school, me drinking a can of Diet Coke in a classy, five star restaurant. But who cares? All of this has happened and I never liked reruns on TV so why start now when you’re having a real-life version of it? If you’ve already seen it, it doesn’t matter. Or it shouldn’t. My memory brought up one fragment that I knew I wanted to see again, even if I hated reruns, even if I hated the pain of seeing this particular one. Stewart. Then my mind shut down, finally coming back to reality, the here and now. Heat rose to my skin like slick, flaming embers—probably the remaining blood draining out of me in spurts through the opened gash in my stomach. I could already feel the dreaded ice creeping unwelcome against my hot skin. Lub-dub. Lub…dub. Stewart...Rupert…? Thump……….thump……… Thunk. That last desperate heartbeat echoed through my body like it was already a hollow shell—all of its useless, valuable, precious, broken reran memories decaying. A little help? I'm into editing the 6th chapter and i'm sooooo tired of this.>_< more
