Open Question: What does the past look like?

Just for a moment, Picture yourself driving a car in a straight path on a continuous road. Imagine the road ahead of you to be the future, the part of the road on which you are currently at to be the present, and the road behind you to be the past. Now, as you're driving the road, you scan the road ahead of you, and you are continuously aware of where you'll be at the near by future. But that is not the main idea of my question. My question is that, Could it be possible that the past does not go away? Picture this, as you're driving down that straight road, you look on the road behind you, and guess what? It's still there. It's there only without you. Meaning that the past can never catch up with the present nor the future. But that idea bothers me, I just can't think of the past as something that simply goes aways right after it happens. It must be somewhere. Think of that as when you're recording a video or taking photographs of each other, that data gets stored onto a digital card or onto a DVD that can be played back and viewed at any other time in the future. Imagine that you have captured your wedding on video ten years ago, and now you're viewing it again on your television set - That's exactly the idea! I think that this very same idea is happening in the real world as well. I think that everything that is happening at the present, gets automatically stored and sometimes played back on its own on another membrane that acts as a memory card. That membrane might be so called a "parallel universe". Just for a moment, picture our universe as a soap bubble. Now, I'm not an expert in soap bubbles, but those bubbles seem and can stick to each other. Now lets say our "soap bubbled" universe has an "infinite" (in human understanding) amount of smaller "soap bubbled" universes attached to it, and that act as memory cards that store and play back the past that happens in our universe. Now of course, those universes are called parallel universes for a reason, not because they are like two straight parallel lines, but because they reflect each other's activities. Meaning that World War II could be happening at that very moment in one of those parallel "soap bubbled" universes. And picture our universe as a "star universe", having those smaller parallel universe acting as "universal planets". But instead of orbiting the "star universe", the "universal planets" stick to the "star universe". And there're likely to be a whole lot more of those types of systems in Hyperspace. But then ok, that's where the past might go, but just as in most digital cameras, there's an option between whether to store the data onto the external memory card or onto the internal memory. What happens to the past that is being stored internally within our universe? I assume that it is absolutely empty. Everything there is in the future, and that past is just left there with nothing - empty airports, no wind, no people, no airplanes, no electricity, nothing, simply because everything is in the future. Imagine a person trying to refuel his car in that past. That fuel won't burn, simply because it has already been used. So basically I'd love to hear your comments about those ideas of mine and can they be considered to be part of Theoretical Physics? - Thank you.P.S. : I always love to add some imaginations to what I already know (the facts). more

I know a LOT of people assume that the white wedding dress it for purity and they think the white wedding dress came from some religious meaning. But it is not true its just a fashion that has stayed for a looooong time. "White did not become a popular option until 1840, after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg. Victoria had worn a white gown for the event so as to incorporate some lace she owned. The official wedding portrait photograph was widely published, and many other brides opted for a similar dress in honor of the Queen's choice" - Wikipedia 5th paragraph down. Resolved Question: Help with making professional wedding pictures?

I have a Canon EOS 1000D Rebel XS. I have shot some events with it and the flash makes great pictures but the flash can also take away from a natural light setting. I use Manual a lot and Av but I just find it hard and frustrating to find the right setting for something like weddings and showers. I end up with dark pictures with noise. I know the noise is from the ISO being up high but if I put it at 200 or 400 I find it hard to find the right setting to lighten the picture. I end up frustrated and still find that the picture isn't that great. So I've been looking into attachments like diffusers and flashes. What exactly do I need to photograph weddings professionally? An external flash and diffuser? I am still learning things and I admit I'm an amateur but I have read up enough to know that I need some light to bounce to make the picture look clear and natural. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could direct me toward some flashes and diffusers and whatever else I need for events like this indoor. Thanks in advance!I'm asking because I'm trying to learn these things. If I don't ask I will never know. I'm not claiming to be a professional, I'm trying to better myself. Resolved Question: Exposing for white wedding dress with lots of beading and lace details?

I need some advice on exposing on the fly for a white wedding dress with LOTS of detail. I am photographing my first wedding, it's a 5 o'clock in the evening church wedding. I am doing it for free for a young bride who was otherwise not going have any special photography other than mom's point and shoot. I figured if the bride is willing to let me come and run around and act like a wedding photographer, I can't pass up the opportunity, what's art and photography without practice and taking a few risks right? But, I can't imagine it's easy to meter to photograph a bride in all white and a groom in all black. Any advice on how to best do this without losing the detail in the bride's beautiful dress would be appreciated. Please keep in mind I am not asking for a critique on my photography, I know I've got a lot to learn, I am simply asking for advice. Thanks so very much everyone! more

Resolved Question: How to fix noisy, dark and grainy photos?

I just photographed a wedding. And the indoor photos I shot with Nikon D80 and a flash (not the camera's flash a separate one). The ISO was 1000. This was my first time and I was rather nervous and I am sure there is a way to fix this. But alas, I do not have Photoshop and would either wait till I get to school or use Sumo Paint. And was curious if there was a specific tutorial I could look at. I would love the most help possible. So thank for those that help. :) more

Resolved Question: Combating injustices while going around the world and learning photojournalism/etc.. any fund raising tips?

It's a year long program, with an additional 6 months to put together a publication of some sort so as to raise awareness and instigate change within all sorts of justice issues. Obviously 18 months in various world locations, a new camera as mine just broke while photographing a wedding, and a laptop to compile everything on really adds up, and I'd need about $12,000 by January... For such a large sum, does anyone have any new ideas extending beyond the realm of letters to family and friends? Any ideas would be super appreciated! Ok...my second vow renewal question tonight. :) My husband and I are having a vow renewal to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary next September and it will just be us, an officant, and a photographer at our original wedding site. I couldn't afford that nice of a wedding dress when we got married and got a bridesmaids dress in white for $150. I don't want to spend that much this time but would love an excuse to get something nicer...I'm thinking no more than $400 range, hopefully less. Would it be weird to wear something fancy and bridal especiall since it's just hubby and i, especially to have nice pictures (b/c our photographer was TERRIBLE at our wedding...we have only one photograph we like and it is what a guest took of us) or would it be strange? I just don't know what the proper etiquette is or if i should just do what i want and wear what i want, especially since it only involves my husband and I. thanks. more

Keep in mind: Money is labor-value encapsulated into monetary units. For instance, let's say you're a photographer. So: you sell your labor to a client. Your labor: You photograph their wedding and supply them with pictures. In turn, they barter with you something of equal value. We use dollars. The dollar amount they barter with you should—I repeat: should—equate with the labor-value of your work. With that in mind, let's take that principle and apply it to all laymen. Let's say that all laymen decide to not stoop to minimum wage. So: The laymen decide to start selling their labor. And, like before, they are compensated for their labor with a monetary value equal to their labor-value. However, if they are selling their labor, this implies that they get to evaluate what their labor is worth. And if that is true: that means that if all laymen unite and uniformly concert to sell their labor at a standardized, reasoned out price, a Capitalist economy becomes Socialist but stays Capitalist. After all, no Government was involved. This is still market behavior.I wish to add: I'm not saying that this is a likely possibility—but I am saying it’s a technical possibility.[I decided to re-post this question because I thought my grammar in the previous post was insufficient.]How do all laymen uniformly concert to sell their labor at a standardized, reasoned out price? Resolved Question: I have never worn makeup in my whole life. Should I wear makeup for my wedding?

I am 19 and have been engaged for almost 6th months. Since my fiancee and I plan on finishing college before getting married I have a long time to plan. We are either getting married in 2012 or 2013. I have strawberry blond hair (never dyed) and light skin with some freckles, and blue eyes. I have been debating whether or not I should wear makeup for my wedding. I hear it would make me come out better in photographs. It also is a big day (duh! :] ). I've tried on mascara with friends at a slumber party before and I think it looks weird since I have blond hair and then my eyelashes were so dark. Also, it made them look all clumpy. I really need help! I need to plan a super cheap $1000 budget wedding/reception in Westchester County, NY or surrounding areas? I'm planning it for my very sick best friend(more like sister), who's very sick and battling Lupus with a 1 year old at home. It will be a max. of 30 ppl, no kids. I have a volunteer to photograph(my hubby does it as his hobby ;),I'm doing the decor and table setting myself to save and I'm also paying for her gown & a friend is doing the music. We also have a family member who make professional cakes willing to give us a great deal on that as well, and we are having a yard sale to hopefully make some of the money to pay for the actual wedding bands. I just want it to be as special and elegant as it can be for her. She deserves it! Any help, ideas would be so appreciated! Voting Question: does a dog's fur grow faster in the winter?

So, here's the deal. I would like to have my dogs participate in my upcoming wedding. I would love to have them all looking their best. One of my dogs is a goldendoodle. We've shaved him during the summer before & had him shaved this spring. I've taken dated photographs of him throughout the summer to document how fast his hair is growing... are these pictures even any good as a reference? I am planning my wedding for the spring, so he will be shaved & growing his coat during the winter. His hair can grow quite long, but I prefer him at a medium length. I just don't want to risk a bad grooming before the big day & I don't have sufficient time to try out various groomers...he is an indoor dog, so he won't be exposed to the elements for any length of time. Could that also play a role in the growth rate of his fur? It's something that I never even thought about before..... Does anybody have a clue? more

My husband and I are in the process of creating a small home based business to sell some of our art work (mostly Jewelry and Pottery, some Photography). A friend of ours has asked us to photograph her wedding. She wants us to put the photos on a cd so she can print them. We are ok with this, but we would like to know how to license the photos. We thought about doing a Creative Commons License with Attribution Non-Commercial Share-Alike. We are ok with her making derivatives (editing, etc.) but at the same time we don't want something that ends up looking bad to have our name on it. Also, we would like to retain the right to edit the photos how we see fit and use them in our portfolio as we build our business. What is the best way to accommodate each of our needs? more

Resolved Question: When it comes to bridesmaids and tan lines, does the bride get any say?

I'm in a wedding coming up in 3 weeks and the other bridesmaid just got fired for getting a sunburn. I was then given a serious talking to that I should stay out of the sun and there will be consequences if I have tan lines on the big day. The bride feeling it's okay to talk to me this way because I'm her sister and temporary slave. Isn't this taking it a little far? I get that tan lines are unsightly and you wouldn't want them in your photographs, so maybe a considerate bridesmaid would go out of her way to avoid them, but shit happens. It's summer. Is the bride within reason to make this demand? The dress leaves very little to the imagination and if there are tan lines on your body, there will be no way to hide them. I didn't mention that I actually already have faint tan lines that are just a result of me being outside in the sun in my life (the horror!). Would the bride have the reasonable right to ask me to do something about them? Or should I just take it upon myself to try to even out my tan? more

I am constantly approached to do hair styles and up dos for wedding for friends and family and from friends of friends, I am extreemely good, better then alot of the local salons we have around my area,and from what I was told by a photographer that photographed my work is that in alaska i would only have to have a cosmatology license to work with chemicals, that i would only have to purchase a business license to do strictly up do's, is that correct? more

Im a bridesmaid in my friends wedding, and I didnt think twice about getting snakebites recently because she works at Hot Topic and her Matron of Honor has green hair and tons of face piercings. When i told her she was very upset, and her fiance told my fiance (they are best friends) that their wedding wasnt going to have any tattoos or piercings and that she was going to have me remove them, and if they happened to close up then she would repierce them. Not only do i not want to take them out for fear of it closing, but I really dont want to be re-pierced. I certainly understand that this is her wedding and her rules go...but to tell me after the fact that this was a no tattoo no piercing wedding has thrown me off. The matron of honor will apparently be covering her tattoos and removing her piercings...but lip piercings can heal withing an hour sometimes and I really dont want to risk losing them, being as they were a gift. I am photographing my first wedding in one week and want to be sure to do a good job of editing pictures. I need help understanding more about tweaking pictures to make them look their best. I only have one real vendor, and that's the photographer. - I'm taking care of the floral arrangements because I refuse to pay $1500 for something that cost $283! and it actually looks nicer- better vases and fresher flowers. - the make up artist and hair stylist have an afternoon appointment so they can't stay - the cake is being dropped off - we have a pianist playing for 2 hours, & she hasn't required anything. Am I missing anyone? Hrmm.. anyways- He's photographing the ceremony (30 min) post ceremony group photos (1 hour) and the lunch reception (2 hours).. Do I have to make a place for him as well at the reception? We have a 50 person limit- 48 guests and ourselves. But we already have 48 guests. And it seems unfair to cut out a guest or couple for someone who's shooting for 3 1/2 hours. We can't add another place setting, or afford to have another arrangement/table/extra anything.. What's the "proper" thing to do in a situation like this? The drinks, fruit displays, etc are open to him but does he really need a place setting? more

After I heard he went to the army, I asked if he ever slept with a prostitute. He lied to me several times about that, and only confessed after he tested positive for genital herpes. His relationship with his ex-girlfriend. I thought they broke up before we met, but it's not clear when they really broke up. He apparently had been engaged to her secretly and she had taken the RU-46 pill a few times. He also lied to me about getting rid of stuff (gifts, letters, emails, photographs), but had secretly kept hundreds of photographs in an online account while we were planning our wedding. I found out last week that he had kept her email address under "loved ones" group mail list and he said, he deleted everything to the best of his ability and he must've forgotten it. He did tell me that there was stuff on his email, but he deleted everything and it was only stored in his computer's memory. But here it was in the contacts page which he looked at even after we were married. I am having a lot of trouble trusting him because he only tells me the truth after he gets caught some way or other and resists getting rid of his ex's old gifts, etc. so much until after a lot of fighting about it. Resolved Question: Is there a possibly temporary alternative to acrylic nails for my wedding?

I'm getting married this November, and really was looking forward to getting acrylics put on for the day. Now, I'm normally not a fan of acrylics, especially because of the painful, annoying, and damaging process of removing them later, but I really want to have my nails look uniform and alike for the photographs. Growing out my nails isn't hard for me, I tend to be able to get them pretty long in no time, but they just aren't as pretty as acrylics can be. And if, the day before the wedding, I nick my nail against a table and it breaks, forget it. Also, I work as a nursing assistant at a hospital, and they strongly prohibit fake nails, because they can harbor tons of bacteria. So, are there a temporary (or at least much shorter) alternative that will make my nails look nice for the day? And stick ons will NOT work. Only serious answers please. Thanks! more

One of my brothers is getting married and his fiance has told me to wear black dress so I don't look like a beached whale in her wedding photographs. I feel like this is just adding insult to injury for me because I was originally a bridesmaid but when I announced I was pregnant I was uninvited to the wedding until my brother said he wasn't going to get married with out his youngest sibling there so now I'm just a guest. All my other siblings are part of the wedding, my brothers are grooms men and my sisters are bridesmaids. She's been really funny when my other siblings and I have had children as she can't have children herself. She will go out of her way to have no interaction with her nieces and nephews and her in laws whilst they are pregnant. I'm a photographer and considering creating 'postcard' invites because I want it to be something I make and I think these will be handy for guests to stick to the fridge etc. The question is what do I photograph? I thought about something simple like 'Wedding Invitation' written in sand on the beach before a sunset ooor something like that but it CANNOT be cheesy :P I don't do cheesy and I am wondering if that would be a bit cheesy. Voting Question: dior skin forever foundation help?

I just bought dior skin forever foundation for £30 (quite expensive for just a foundation) and i bought it especially for being a bridesmaid at my brothers wedding. the sales representative matched me up with the perfect colour, and also it is very good for my skin type. He also said it would last up to 10-12ish hours. but ive just watched three reviews on youtube for the foundation and 2 out of 3 said it didnt photograph well because it has a high spf. obviously as its a wedding there are going to be lots of photos so this is a huge problem! i dont have time to get myself another foundation as we are driving to salsbury for it in 3 days! is there anything i can do to correct this problem? bronzer or a powder or something? thanks x more

My step-mom was at dinner with them 1 week ago and they said they need a photographer for the wedding. My step-mom told them about me, I picked up my first camera at age 2 and moved up in my career and have been taking a ton of photos of people and events since age 10. They friended me on Face Book two days ago and sent a message asking me about the deal and for dinner with me, my step-mom, my dad, my older brother and them to meet tomorrow night. Hello. I am a photographer and editor. I picked up my moms camera at age 2 and started taking pictures. I was in love. So that is what started the whole thing. When I was 6, my mom bought me my own REAL camera instead of those play ones. I have been taking pictures ever since. I have moved camera to camera. Disposible to Small ones to Bigger ones. I have picked up some skills and when I was eight, I started editing the pictures. When I was 10, my cousin was getting married and asked me if I could photograph her wedding. She said I could get $100 and that was when I got my first BIG camera. So I said yes. I made amazing photos, and I have been getting many offers from family. Some friends. I have picked up many skills after that, and I did photography camps and classes. It has been 5 years since, and now I am thinking... Should I open a business? I'm nervous about the 18% gray factor (white dress/black tux). Can anyone shed some light on this and how to get great photos. The other thing is the use of flash(don't use it very often) but have heard i need to use in the church, not sure how to match the camera and flash so i don't over expose. Any advice at all will be very helpful. Additional Details I have a Nikon D300 and D50, Nikon SB-600, 28-105 mm, 70-210mm, and 18-35 mm and Tamron 28-80 mm. Two batteries for the D300 and 1 battery for the D50, one memory card for each camera, 2 battery chargers. I'm actually doing this as a favour for my cousin, she is on a really tight budget and she was going to have a friend take the photos. Resolved Question: Is there a way to change the details of an image file?

Alright, so long story short, I photographed a wedding Saturday and I have about 600 images (NEF) with the wrong year in the meta data... is there anyway I can change that? I'm trying to combine two separate camera files together and while the month, day and time are correct, one camera still thought it was 2009... I'm incredibly frustrated about this because I need these images to be in the order they were taken. Any ideas? All I want to do is change the data in the file from saying "7/10/2009" to "7/10/2010".... the time cannot be changed...Dan G and Mark, both of you are actually wrong. I did a ton of forum research and found it IS possible to change just the year, or the day or even the month by using Adobe Lightroom. Once the images have been uploaded to the catalog, you just simply edit the meta data to change the date. Simple and wonderful. Mark... lol do people seriously use MS Paint as a way to edit images? That's quite sad... I'd highly suggest downloading the free trial of photoshop and looking up some tutorials for it. Also, who uses time stamps on their pictures? I know I sure as hell don't... I don't think my clients would appreciate having an image with the date and time stamped on it... pretty tacky if you ask me. but thanks for the input, hopefully someone will come across this and realize they need to stop putting a time stamp on their pictures. i was renting a private property from a family friend for a year, our contract has just ended and we have moved elsewhere. we had given a £1000 deposit when we moved in, and the agreement was wed get it back if the house was like they gave it to us as. the landlord looked at the house after we left and kicked up a fuss saying its dirty, the carpets arent cleaned or hoovered and the whole house needs re-decorating, which is a complete lie as we spent a whole day cleaning top to bottom and i hoover every day so i dont know where he got that idea from. he has now threatened that we arent getting our deposit back because its going to cost him time and money to re-do the house, and has basically ordered us to redecorate the house and make it perfect for the new tenants which we had done before we left. i am shocked he has done this to us as he is supposed to be a good friend of our family and he has hurt us a lot and that money was for the rent for our new home. when wed moved into the property it was filthy it took me a week to clean, there was damage around the house which he is now blaming us for although he knew it was there, and the house has been left in a better condition we recieved it in but he is adament its not. the previous tenant had left the house a complete mess and he had to do lots of work to it but he didnt charge them any money from their deposit and i am very confused and upset that he is charging us for the problems that were already there. we have left the house with money on the gas and electric and brand new locks all over the house and garden which we didnt have to do there is even a shed and washing line. he says he had written a list before we moved in having everything on it that was damaged in the house and photographs, but i havent seen any of this information and an inventory has to be seen and signed by the tenant??? i have not done this so is it legal for him to take money from us when he cannot prove his list is accurate?? (i know its not and i wouldnt lie, if wed damaged anything id pay). is there anything we can do? id prefer to not take him to court i have a lot going on with our new house, but i just want our deposit back or most of it if he wont give it all back, how can we do this? would it be going too far to get in touch with the police if he doesnt give it back? im quite scared as this is a huge amount of money we cant afford to lose, what would you do? thanks for any information and sorry it is long i am just desperate for advice or information. more
