Resolved Question: Photography and schooling, want professional photographers opinions.?
I have been doing lots of photography work for about 3 years now. Just now have I taken it to a professional level and started doing portrait photography for families, children, couples and more. Although I like to do nature photography, I feel like I specialize more in portrait photography. To me, I am rather good with what I do with what little schooling I have had with photography. College is not an option right now, and most likely won't be for a few years due to lack of money. I do, however, take a lot of free online 'classes' and read alot about it. I don't take the classes to learn how to take pictures, I can do that wonderfully with just my talent, I like to learn more about exposure, camera settings, lighting, and other tips and suggestions. My problem is that a lot of people think to be a photographer you have to have schooling and lots of it. I am also fairly young, almost 19. I have the professional equipment that my husband and I bought prior to advertising my work, and I have a lot of experience. I think the pictures and your professionalism should prove it self when I do a person or families shots, but the thing is, I get a lot of people who look past me because of my lack of schooling and age. My prices are extremely cheap, below $100, mostly below $75, and I am confident in my work. What tips would you give me to bring in more customers? I am in the process of learning GIMP and continue reading all about new things with photography. Is there any PROFESSIONAL photographers on here that have made it where they want with out schooling? I am not going to post any of my work, because I believe every one will have their own opinions and I am already confident with what I do. Thanks so much to you all!Alright, I will post some of my work if it is that important. I charge so cheap because I feel like with my age and lack of schooling I probably can not get what I think my work is worth quite yet. Here is a post to my blog with most of my work. http://shoryphotography.blogspot.com/By the way, what is this "it" you speak of that I am so full of?http://s802.photobucket.com/albums/yy305/shorylovephotography/ So you can enlarge the pictures. These are just a few of the pictures I have done. I mostly post the ones I get paid for for my clients to see. moreVoting Question: Should I upgrade my body or my lens?
Okay, I have a Nikon D40x and I've had it for over a year now and I'm getting really into photography.. I shoot portraits but I don't want to limit myself or camera to that. Should I upgrade my body?(if so what body) Or should I just get a lens?(if so what lens) My price range is pretty limited ATM,... but once I decide which part to upgrade on I'm just going to save up some money. moreResolved Question: does this seem like a fair price for wedding photography?
Based on the information you provided, below is my recommended coverage for your wedding photography. In thanking you for your consideration, I have applied deep discount on the pricing. Also, I waved the travel expenses and the design fee for the DVD slideshow. I have a couple of weddings to shoot in April and May. I would ask you to wait and see how your engagement photos come out and the wedding photos I take in April and May to decide if you want to hire me for your wedding photography or not. ^_^ $840 (70% off original price of $2800) v Pre-event consultation v 8~10 hours photography for getting ready, ceremony, portraits, and reception v Unlimited photography during time hired v Assistant / second photographer v Online image proof v Images with retouching and artistic effects v High resolution images on CD with personal rights v DVD wedding slideshow with music this person is a professional portait photographer just starting out in weddings. She is doing our engagement photo session for free this monday, giving us a photo dvd with personal rights for printing. What do you think?? I fear that almost 900 for someone with very limited wedding experience is sorta steep. I hate the idea of bargaining with someone over their "craft" (i feel its a lot different to bargain for a car, house etc.) however I cant help but think man, almost a grand on someone who hasnt really got any experience seems crazy moreVoting Question: what do you think of these photography studio kits for its price? (i can only afford these prices) advice?
Which one should i get??? pls take your time comparing them, i am soOo serious about getting one of them, and i really dont want to wast my money. i only work 2 days a week making $10/hr. i really need to make extra money, so im thinking of stepping up my game and use my photography skills and have a little photography studio at home and/or on the go to shoot some portrait. seriously these are the only one i can afford right now, am planning to but more pro equipments but not till years from now, but as of now, im only looking to but a good/cheap kind that would suit my budget. thanks for you time God bless! xoxo L3 LLLphoto http://cgi.ebay.com/Studio-Flash-Strobe-Softboxes-Backdrop-Muslin-Boom_W0QQitemZ370340914634QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item563a09e5ca http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-PROFESSIONAL-3-STROBE-STUDIO-FLASH-KIT-SOFTBOX-SET_W0QQitemZ290406966240QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439d9aa3e0 http://cgi.ebay.com/3-Studio-Flash-Strobe-2-softbox-3-backdrop-wireless_W0QQitemZ290407347158QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item439da073d6 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220520943021&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120534890052&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:ITmore i saw... http://cgi.ebay.com/3-STUDIO-FLASH-STROBE-LIGHTS-Backdrop-Stands-600W-S_W0QQitemZ270484894287QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3efa27f24f http://cgi.ebay.com/900W-S-3-STUDIO-FLASH-STROBE-LIGHTS-Backdrop-Stands_W0QQitemZ270502612131QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3efb364ca3 moreResolved Question: Whats the best photoshop product i can buy that will do the job?
So im really into photography and ive recently started doing portrait photo's. I want to be able to do things like airbrush and ive done it before as i downloaded cs4 for a trail. I am now trying out Lightroom 2 and i think it's really cool for changing the tone of pictures and it also does a good job at softening skin. But what should i get, should i go the whole hog and get CS4 or is there an older version that will do exactly what i want (airbrushing.layers/colour splash effects etc..) at a less expensive price? What do you prefer to use Lightroom, photoshop or both??Yes but which one??I actually have elements 8 but i just fin it a bit limiting, can you airbrush on it?? moreResolved Question: I am an amateur photographer....what should i charge?
I do things a little different. Please don't judge just help. Thanks! <3 -The type of photography I'm doing so far is family portraits/children's portraits, on location. -But I would like to also know a decent pricing for senior portraits regular portraits, and real estate shots. -I post all the pictures (ranging from 60-120) on a website and send it to my clients so they can order what they like. -I take the time to take a LOT of pictures. After I chose the best ones I edit a lot, if not all of them. -I've only been "hired" about 4 times. but i've taken a LOT of pictures for quite awhile and people usually love them. -The amount I'm getting paid is really varied. The highest I've gotten is $40 and the lowest is $15. (Both paid to me by the same client) -I just would like a little bit of stability. I know it's early in the game but I want to have some piece of mind, knowing that the price I will receive will be fair for me and my clients. -What would be a good flat rate and a good hourly rate? I live in California and am young........if that makes a difference. (p.s. in this case young means under 20)@shawnzmojo102 Yea I do put a LOT of work into post production, but i'm not good at making decisions and I would rather give my clients a wide variety and all the good pictures because they may love something i decide not to give them. So I want to give them all the good ones. And I want it to be the best for them and for me. Everything you said was good/helpful but you never actually gave me a price suggestion. moreResolved Question: Studio lighting kits for beginner portrait shooting, will you help me shop?
I'd like to explore self-portrait photography and I'm in need of lighting equipment. I was wondering if you would help me shop on the BH Photovideo website for the best, not too expensive (student budget) kit. I'm a big fan of Cindy Sherman, and I'll be shooting myself as the subject. I'll be dressing up and posing differently. For now I'll be shooting with a white background, which will be a sheet (if you oppose this, I'd like your advice as well). Do you think the softbox is good for a beginner/practice shooting? Or what about the one Umbrella Floodlight kit? http://www.bhphotovideo.com http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?ci=2247&N=4294551170&Ns=p_PRICE_2%7C0 Your help is much appreciated, thank you. moreResolved Question: Beginner to Professional Photography, Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 or CANON EOS Elan?
I'm going to try to pursue the career of professional photography but the thing is.. I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE with cameras and about it, except the simple click & flash= Snapshot. I been trying to look up what professional cameras are good for beginners and two has popped up quite a lot.. the Panasonic DMC-GF1 and this specific Canon camera.. the CANON EOS Elan 7E 35mm Autofocus Camera. I know that the Canon one is extreme for me because I've never used film but digital(& that's what I'm looking for), the somewhat difficult multiple buttons or controls to chose from, and the one that bothers me most is the PRICE. I have seen the photos that this camera has taken from all focus and it's great and I can picture what I can do with it. Said from a professional photographer, she recommended it for beginners to start off and good for people looking for simple auto focus for professional quality pictures. Is it worth all that money though? From buying this even though it's expensive, does it and will it have all I need(ex. I won't have to go again the the electronic store and search for 4 diffferent lenses)? As for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1, I like how light-weight it is and how clear the pictures can be as how cheaper it is than the other. But the pictures though there wasn't a lot of samples that I can look at all it's ranges of focus, it seems just a teeny bit better than a normal digital. Also it seems for this one, I probably have to go buy different lenses for focus and stuff like that.. but I'm not sure which and if I can afford it. So what I guess I'm asking is to the professionals here.. which is better for me? & if I were to buy any of them, would I have to buy extra stuff to go with it? Probably this would help too for my questions... Type of photos, I would like to be able to do with it or have on it are.. -auto-focus -portraits -landscape -don't know what it's called but, it's where I can make a certain part focused and the background somewhat blurred. -quick snapshots -professional clear quality -clear shots of night life -action or motion pictures (where someone can just jump in the air or running and I can get that snapshot without blurr.. I think this may go under quick snapshots..but you guys know what I mean) -under $2000 -has flash light that I can insert or already has it. If you guys know any other good cameras for me, please recommend=) thanks for your help moreResolved Question: Question about school pictures?
I began a very small family business doing pony parties for b-days. My father in-law is a photography buff and takes photos of all the kids, and I take them home and change them to an old pony photo and send them back to parents on a disc. I would like to expand the photography aspect and offer school portraits on the pony for preschools, day-cares, and small schools. My thoughts are to have 3 poses (one in old-time sepia tone) to use for packages that would be sent out to a photo lab for printing. We would have a couple backdrops to use in case the school doesn't have an appropriate setting. Our mini horse would come to be petted and brushed by the waiting kids or kids not getting pictures and if the kid is afraid of the riding pony, they can get their photo with the mini. My mother in-law would use the child's brush/comb to fix hair and wash faces before the shoot. My questions to parents are, what is important to you in school portraits? Any experiences with past photographers that you appreciated? What packages do you find the most popular? What price ranges do you like to see for packages? Would you even consider this for your child, why/why not? Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: Question about school photography?

I am very new to photography and will mainly be using it to take portraits of my, very active, 16 month old son. I am very drawn to the 50 mm f/1.8 lens strictly for the price and its amazing reviews. I know that it will not auto focus on my camera and that is concerning to me. I am also considering the 35 mm f/1.8 but really do not want to pay that much right now. Will I be satisfied with the 50 mm even though it doesn't auto focus? Any other lens recommendations for portraits? Thank you moreResolved Question: What kind of camera should I ask for my birthday ?
My birthday is coming up, and im very an artistic person. I dont necessarily need the camera for like landscapes but more for portraits, and artistic photography like (trips I go on, in the summer, and artisiticy stuff I cant really describe haha) I only really like Canon cameras, are they better than nikons? Cause there has been a lot of controversial talk about which is better. I really want a DSLR camera and the price range is between 900.00$ - 1200.00$. I just want someone elses advice because I need a camera that takes very high quality photographs but still retains the image even after it is cropped or downsized. ;) Thank you so much ! PS also, I will need a tripod, so if anyone knows a good brand that would really help ! Thanks :) moreResolved Question: Thoughts on this DSLR camera.?
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-+EOS+… I am looking into buying a new camera, as my business is growing and I am needing a little more professional camera. I am an intermediate photographer. In my business, I do location photography shoots, portraits. I do a lot of pictures with fast moving kids, and families, couples etc. I also do landscape shots. Right now, I have a Canon SX10 power shot, that I love and cherish. It is great because it is easy to carry and easy to understand. I love Canons, but I also hear Nikon is good. I am leaning more towards Canon though. This camera is right in my price range. If any one has advice on this camera, it would be greatly appreciated. Does any one know if this camera has a variety of lenses, filters, and flash mounts? I know I will have to re-learn a new camera, but is it a difficult one to understand? Thanks and God bless. I have also been watching this one http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Canon+-+EOS+… What one do you recommend of the two? I am talking about the camera, not the set that the second one comes with. moreResolved Question: Best digital camera for portrait/wedding type photography?
Yes, I am aware that SLR cameras provide much better picture quality blah blah but to be honest I don't want to pay too much and I don't want to be lugging around a big camera all the time! But if anyone can recommend a low price and compact one then I would definitely consider :) So basically I am not a professional but I would appreciate a camera which provides better results than the ones I have had/used before. If possible I would like a camera with image stabilization, Live view LCD and colour control (especially flesh tones) as these are helpful for portrait photography. Fast multi-point auto focus and lots of external flash options would be a bonus. The biggest problem I have faced with previous cameras is that the flash can wash people out (i.e. make their skin appear white/blue due to the harsh flash) I know that this can be expected when taking photos indoors/at night time but I am wondering if their are any cameras with settings that would help this as all I am asking for is decent quality photographs where people appear flesh coloured! I would like to spend between £150-£250 but can definitely pay more for something which is noticeably better. Any suggestions would be appreciated and if you have any sample photos (preferably portrait style shots) taken on the cameras that I can see then that would be a bonus. Thanks all! moreResolved Question: What is a good photography camera?

I just finished school (6 months ago actually) and have a couple of wedding gigs coming and I really want to do wedding photography and I've been researching lenses to get as well as cameras and I've been saving up for the 7D but now I really just want to get the 85mm f/1.2 lens because it's beautuful but it's SOOO expensive and use it on my 30D. But I know the wedding portraits would come out great with this lens. Has anyone uses this lens before? Or Would I just be better off getting the 85mm f/1.8 which is a quarter of the price? thanks moreResolved Question: Should I upgrade from an S5 do a DSLR?
I've had my Canon PowerShot S5 for about 2 years now, and I love it a lot, but there's some areas that it does not do well in. 1)It really struggles with indoor photos. A lot. 2)You basically can't do anything without the flash on, unless it's in broad daylight outdoors. 3)Sometimes it seems to have trouble focusing. The faster focus speeds, and generally better looking photos really appeal me about a DSLR. I take a lot of landscape pictures, lots of portraits of people (With the background blurred, I really like that), and a lot of macro (I use Super Macro on the S5 a lot) photos. So should I upgrade? If yes, which DSLR should I get? I figure I could resell my S5 on craigslist or something and get some money back. I'm thinking either a D40, D3000, or a Rebel Xs, or something around that price range. Also, I'm going to college in a year and a half, and I don't plan on being a photography major, but I would like to dabble in it in college. I've had a lot of fun learning some of the settings on my S5. moreResolved Question: Don't know which to get, Canon 5D Mark ii or 7D?
I wanto save up for another camera. I have the Rebel XS and hope to eventually upgrade. But I've been back and forth between the 5DM2 and 7D. I understand that the 5DM2 is full body while the 7D is cropped, but still can't decide. I love the HD video features, and with the upgrade to the 5DM2's HD video said to come this year, that's not a deciding factor really. I love portrait photography and close up nature. I've heard a lot about both camera body's, and still can't decide. I'm guessing that canon is going to come out with a 5D mark iii at some point? Maybe I should just wait for that, which would probably have the benefits of the 7D plus the capability of the mark ii? I'm at odds here lol. The price isn't really a problem. I don't mind taking longer to save up for a more expensive camera if that's what turns out to be the camera I want. Any advice?Just wanted to add that I have L-glass lenses. So they'd work on my XS and 5DM2 if I chose that camera. Thank you all so far moreResolved Question: I need a suggestion for a good Digital SLR, any knowledgeable photography enthusiasts with suggestions?
I am a photography minor and am finally ready to buy myself an slr, I have $600 to spend, but could go to $700 (I'm a waitress and a student, ugh). I would like something versatile with good focal length. I like to take portraits as well as landscapes. I'm used to working with a Canon Rebel XT eos but have heard there are similarly priced cameras out there with more to offer. Please let me know if you have any advice, my head is swimming with all the information :) moreResolved Question: Continuous light soft boxes, what would be best for me?
I am new to photography and am going to be starting a college for photography next month. In the meantime I would really like to set up a "studio". I would like to put up a background stand and buy some backdrops. I wanted to get a continuous light softbox in the meantime, and eventually buy a softbox with flash after I have learned enough about it in school. I was looking online and saw two different options and wondered what would be best for me. I also don't understand what amount of wattage bulb I should be looking for, my "studio" has quite a bit of natural light due to a large window, so that may make a difference. The first softbox I was looking at was 50x70 cm with an 85 watt bulb, however that doesnt sound like enough light to me. And the other was a 20 x 28 inch softbox, with a 1000 watt bulb Also, I have a fear that since these are so low priced that they may be cheap and cause a fire hazard as the lights get hot. Could anyone recomment what size of softbox I should get (for infant portraits) and what amount of wattage bulb I should be looking for considering the natural light in my studio area. I would take this advice and go to a photography supply store near my home looking for a softbox with that kind of wattage. Obviously you need to buy a softbox that can handle a really hot light so that you don't start a fire. So if I knew what amount of light I would need I could go from there. This is the 1000 watt softbox I was looking at http://www.backdropsource.com/Productinfo.asp?id=3059&pname=1000-watt-quartz-softbox-kit moreResolved Question: Making money with photography?

So i know both of these cameras are old and new models of both have come out, but these are the two cameras that i have had my heart set on. First off, i am just starting photography and my main focus would be nature, such as flowers, mountains, pretty much landscape in both good and low lights. the next would be portraits of anything. so pretty nothing moving. i mean for fun ill still have candid moving shots, but the serious stuff is not going to be moving and most of the stuff i want to be shooting will most likely be in low light. Some stuff that i would really like to know about these two: 1) The viewfinders: For those who have used both, which would you prefer. like given what i want to use the camera for, which would you prefer? another thing is how big of a picture do you see when you look through the viewfinder? is it clear? My main concern for some odd reason is the viewfinder. I have this wierd thing that a camera is just expresses the beauty that ones eye witnesses and having a great viewfinder would only help in this belief. 2) Does one have better image quality than the other? 3) I want to be working with prime lenses primarily when i start. which do you think would suite me best? 4) Being a noobie, which is more noob friendly =] thats pretty much it, but the final quesiton comes down to money. As of right now, i can get a rebel xt for a way cheaper price than the nikon d40. this comes with the kit lens and is about 275 dollars, where as the nikon d40 is the same amount just without a lens. i have felt both cameras in my hand, the d40 feels awesome, but the xt doesnt feel bad as well. so in all honestly, if you were on a tight budget and took into consideration everything else i have stated, which would you go with? thank you for the help.Another thing, i plan on going completely manual all the time, this includes focusing, so auto focus does not matter to me. moreVoting Question: What is the best digital SLR camera for the best price? (looking for people with some camera knowledge..)?
I'm looking to buy a new camera as I start getting into professional photography. I currently have a Nikon P90 that has 24x optical zoom and 12.1 megapixels. It's a great camera and has never failed me, BUT I just really love the quality of SLR's especially when it comes to using the macro setting and portraits. Anyways, I'd like my next camera to be under $600, seeing as I'm a student and on a budget. And I usually only go for Cannon or Nikon (unless a camera from another maker stands out for some reason). And I don't want any cameras from before, say, 2005. There's been so many advances recently that it would be out-of-date almost immediately. My camera NEEDS to take pictures immediately, not one of those that you click and then 2 seconds later it takes the picture. Annnndddd that's all I can think of right now:) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! moreResolved Question: How do I price my photography services?
A lot of photography pricing advice online seems to be for professionals. I am sub-pro/amateur - basically, I am a photo student who is in demand. I don't necessarily need to pay for equipment (although that would be wonderful), but I definitely don't want to have dirt cheap rates because I actually do good quality work and don't want to be a push over. So far I haven't bought photoshop, but I want to, and I haven't had to get any prints done for my commissions. My growing experience ranges from candid wedding shots, band gig, theatre production, and my upcoming commissions are product shots for business owners. Thus far my commissions have relied on the client's choice of how much they want to pay, which has resulted in a couple of free commissions unfortunately - but I did gain experience. My hometown is a metropolitan, college town and when at my school, that town has a more rural setting. I shoot with a Canon EOS Rebel XSi (and hoping to upgrade before I graduate). How should I go about pricing as a rising photographer? - candid wedding? - band gigs? band portraits? - general portraits? - products? - plays and stage performances? How should I price prints? - where are good places/sites to get prints done? I would really appreciate thorough and honest answers. I know that there are so many factors that go into pricing, but some ideas and advice would be really helpful. One of my acquaintances does headshots for our university's actors/actresses for $75. Although I haven't done much portraiture and have been asked to do more event-related work, so I am not sure where to start prices. To FotoZ: That's why I tried to mention information about my towns - one is more urban and one is more rural. I live in Virginia (United States). moreResolved Question: Opinions on a new camera?
I am in the process of finding a digital slr camera. I have narrowed it down to either a Canon Rebel T1i OR a Nikon ( maybe D3000 or D90 ). I was wondering if you you could compare and contrast them. Maybe a reason why you would never get one, or a reason you will always buy this brand? Some of the downfalls of them, or the advantages? My background: I've been gaining knowledge over the past couple months about photography and I'm about to get a camera that will satisfy my needs. I will most likely be taking nature shots, sports (action) shots, once in a great while..portraits. I really want the Canon listed above but the only thing it's missing for me is burst mode. This would come in handy for the action shots I will be taking :/ I'm kind of bummed about that. Also if you would like to give me another camera to check out, be my guest :p ( Price range: 500-800?) I would appreciate all thoughts / concerns :) thank you! moreResolved Question: Some feedback on canon rebel?

I'm thinking of getting a new camera for Photography as we move onto digital in lesson. so ive been looking at DSLR's and was thinking of getting a Canon D1000 but then my teacher pointed out that it hasn't got that much of a high ISO so i wouldn't be able to take very good night shots (which i want to do mainly but i do like other things like landscape and portraits) So i though i would come to the help of you :) the price range should be like £600 Max (gonna see if i can get it on ebay for cheaper). I was looking also at the Canon D500/450 or one of the Nikon. So my main question is what would you guys suggest? like what was your first camera how well did it work for different types of topics. I either want a Nikon or Canon. just dunno what type :P would be nice if it had video but doesn't matter to much. maybe 3inch screen etc but that doesnt matter to much either. good max/min aperture, ISO and good JPEG/Raw file quality. so any you could suggest open to any suggestions even if its not Nikon or Canon. and if any of you have used the Canon 1000D/500D/450D or Nikon 1000D what are they like :)?I think ive made my mind up and i think im gonna go for Canon D500! but is it any good? moreResolved Question: What photography lighting equipment would be needed for Graduation Ball? (UK)?
I have been doing wedding photography and nightclub photography fo a year now and have recently been asked to do portraits and a Graduation Ball.... My question is what equipment with regards to lighting would I need as the client has asked for posed photos, so I presume I would need a white/marble grey background?? and maybe two lighting units.... Can anyone suggest what would be best for this and for a reasonable price? Thanks moreResolved Question: Which portrait camera is best for around $2000?
My wife and I are going to start a photography business taking people portraits. We are doing a lot of research and it seems to me so far that pretty much all of the upper end cameras will work just fine as long as you understand enough about lighting and are using the proper settings on the camera. However, being the person I am, I like to get top quality items. I'm looking to spend around $2000 or less for a camera that will last and above all, take amazing indoor portraits. I must say that the Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR has really caught my eye for the price and statistics. So, for my questions: Does anyone have experience or knowlege about that camera? And / Or, What other cameras would you recomend for indoor portrait use? I'm not opposed to any brand, but have heard more about Canon, Nikkon, and Olympus. Thanks everyone!!! I hope you give me some good answers... For entry level to professional level?
I am looking for a DSLR camera that will carry me through from now entry level taking photography classes to hopefully professional. I am passionate about photography and am interested in eventually taking portraits for a side income. I was looking at the Nikon DSLR because the price was reasonable, but I dont want to invest in it if I will be looking to upgrade in a few months. Which camera & model would you recommend for me? I will get lenses from family for xmas, I'm just asking about the camera, I'm going to B&H Photo Store today. Here's what I want. These are important to me: -DSLR (not a point & shoot) -price less than $800 (closer to $500-$600 if possible) -for a complete beginner. (I may want to do prof. in future but IF I do I'll get a diff camera then). -take portraits of my new baby. -family pictures indoors & out. -at least 10mp. I am a beginner so I need a good beginner camera that I can learn on BUT good enough if I do want to pursue photography part-time, mostly portraits. I really like that soft look to portraits (if that has anything to do with the camera). moreResolved Question: Whats the better Camera?

i am just starting out doing photography for freelance work. i am 16 now almost 17.i have been doing photos ever since i was a kid and have been shooting with nikon d40 for three years. i want to get into portraits. i have all the backdrops and lighting and i have done some for friends and family and they love them. i need some help on advertiseing to get more work though. i have already got prices and everything made up. i thought of putting flyers up at my school if they will let me. do you know what else i can do thanks moreResolved Question: 35mm f/1.8 or 50mm f/1.4?
I'm looking for a prime lens that will do well for portrait, still life, and just general walk around photography. The 35mm f/1.8 first caught my eye because of it's price and it's ability to autofocus on the D40 body. I was a bit disappointed to hear that it had poor bokeh effects though. Can anyone with this lens tell me differently? Also, will anyone with the 50mm f/1.4 tell me if it's good for depth of field/bokeh and just general photography? Is it worth the extra money? moreResolved Question: Would you pay more for a photography session?
Would you pay more for a photography session if the price included hair and make-up? I'm thinking about going to cosmetology school and partnering up with a friend that is a photographer after I graduate. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to spend more money on their portrait package if there was a hairdresser/make-up artist's services included. Please let me know any thoughts you have on this. moreResolved Question: What accessories should I consider when buying a Canon Rebel DSLR?
I am thinking about buying the Canon EOS Rebel T1I. I see a price of about $729 on a website that claims to search a ton of prices online. Does that sound about right? More importantly, though, I want to make sure I factor in all the other things I need to buy along with the DSLR. What kinds of lenses (and prices!) should I be looking at? I'm fairly new to the DSLR market but am serious about buying one and learning as much as I can about it. What other things (filters, accessories) should I be considering? What is the approximate price range of those things? Since I think it makes a difference, I'm really interested in travel photography (portraits with good depth of field, landscapes, architecture, etc.), the occasional night shot (of people and cities, etc.), daytime family portraits and holiday shots (of two people talking, for example), not so much sports/action photography (but occasionally), and sometimes creative and artistic shots (I don't know how else to describe them), occasionally macro shots (fairly but not extremely important to me). Thank you!D2ARK, what are the approx. prices of those two things you listed? moreResolved Question: which lens do you recommend? why?
Okay i am going to get the Canon 50D (after loooonnngggg debate, i dont like the 15mp sensor but its all good i guess)...anyways...i am looking to do portrait photography with my first lens...and the choices are: 1. Canon 50mm f1.8 (obo. $100) 2. Canon 85mm f1.8 (obo. $400) 3. Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM (obo. $400) now looking at prices, also taking into consideration i am just a beginner, which do you recommend and why? any other lenses that you may recommend besides these three? I really like the $100 lens mainly for the price and i've seen people's pics and they seem exactly what I want, but im worried about the 50mm part :/ the macro lens i like because it can do portrait pics as well as macro (which is also what i love taking pics of) so its like 2 lenses in one, i just dont know how it would compare to the 50mm 1.8f, i've been looking at comparisons of the two and for some reason (dont know if its the $100 still lol) the f1.8 just looks better... anywhoozles...let me know what you guys think, id love the input... thanks! moreVoting Question: What is a good digital camera for a professionsal photographer? I am just starting out and taking a few classes in photography. I am mainly focused on portrait pictures indoor/outdoor of children and adults. My hope is to do it professionaly in the furure....But the world of DSLR camera's is intimidating. The only past experience I have is using my sony cybershot point and shoot type digital camera. What do you think of my work? http://bonniesphotography.carbonmade.com/ I'm thinking about getting a small business license and starting a freelance photography business. I have been taking photos for years but not for pay. The closest that I've been to taking photos of people I don't know and for pay would be when I worked at Sears Portrait Studio for half a year. I would like to branch out and offer my photography to people I don't know. Maybe put an add in the paper and such. But I'm not sure if anyone will be interested? Do you think I have talent and would be able to get a few people interested? Also I have no idea about prices or how much to charge. Based on my photography what do you think would be a good starting point? (I don't want to charge for prints, just sessions) moreResolved Question: Nikon 50mm f/1.4 or Nikon 55-200mm lens?
I got my Nikon d40 about a year ago, and I am happy with it and the lens(18-55) it comes with, but I'm starting to take photography more seriously and am looking into getting a second lens. I'm still a teenager so I have a tight budget, I'm aware or the prices of them and am up to saving up money for something, but definetly not to expensive. I really do alot of different things, I like macro, landscape, and I do like portraits, I like doing everything. I'm still a beginner and am definetly still learning, so I need some help. I've been looking at the 50mm f/1.4 and the 55-200mm lenses. Can anybody tell me which you think would be better for me, and the pro's and cons, and what you can do with each of them? Thank you! I'm buying a new lens for my Canon Xsi. I'll be using these lens mostly for portraits. I want to get one of these two. But I can't decide which one to get. I'm looking for better depth of field, more shallow, and the one that create better bokeh, They're both almost the same price. I suppose that you have some knowledge about photography since you're answer this question. The first one is only 50mm, but f1.4, so it's more shallow. But the second one is 85mm, but only had f 1.8. so, I wanna know how it'll work on depth of field. Which will create more bokeh, and more shallower. Which one should I get? and why? What to charge?
I've been doing photography for a little over a year. Self taught with digital dslr and photoshop editing. More and more people keep asking me to do photo shoots of them so I figured I might as well make a profit off of it. Currently, I do location shoots of the clients choice(sometimes multiple locations), I allow outfit changes, I've done family portraits, infant/babies/children, fitness/modeling, and maternity portraits. I do not print the images. I've just been copying the high resolution images to a CD/flash drive for them to print their own images attempting to make it easier and more affordable for them. How much should I charge for these services? Also, would you recommend I print the photos myself and sell packages? Where should I have them printed? Thanks in advance for the answers. ps This is just a side thing. I work a full time job and do this on weekends only. moreResolved Question: Photography Business Help?
