Photography is my hobby...I'd like to turn it into a career and I am trying to set up a home studio. I am currently looking at photography back lights and I am wondering if anyone can recommend a good light kit? Open Question: Looking to find models to photograph?

Heya, I'm a photography enthusiast, a long way from being a pro, and I'm looking for models hoping to expand their portfolio. Are there any sites which I could find them on? (I'm in London, England). I wouldn't be able to offer any money, but as long as I could use the photos in my portfolio, I don't mind if they do too. They'd have to be bloody patient with me tho lol - good photos are few and far between for me!! My studio lighting is cheap and takes a lot of fiddling. Hey guys. I am about to pick up a laptop for my college..My basic requirements are day to day school stuff,good processing speed required for editing photos,music and yeah i play hard core games too. So basically i need an all in one laptop which will last me at least 4 years of my college life. I have gone through many company sites, and i think will either settle down between Dell Inspiron,Dell Studio or the Apple Macbook pro 13 inch. Open Question: How do I sync my mobile and computer?

I've just plugged my mobile into the computer for the first time. When I used to do this with my old phone I was asked if I wanted to enter the setup wizard which I would close and I would go into 'my computer', find the device and upload photos. When I connect the computer and new phone I get a message to tell me new hardware is detected but when I look in 'my computer' or 'my photos' it is not there. So, I found the disc that came with the phone and popped that in, I had an option to install USB driver, upon clicking that a little box appears telling me it is attempting to install, followed by a pop up telling me that "NPS is not Exist. Please set up NPS". What is NPS and why "is it not Exist"?!! Then I tried installing 'Samsung New PC Studio', this time I get a pop up telling me "The InstallShield is running. Please try again after installing New PC Studio". Again, I am left in confusion! Please help!I've managed it, it was a bit round the houses and I'm not quite sure how I did it but it's done! more

ive been doing som searching in Amazon for a good pair of monolights for my studio ill be building soon,i found a great deal that comes with 2 monolights equipped with umbrellas,but theres another deal that come with Softboxes,which do you think is better to have,softboxes,or the umbrella lights?(detailed comparison please) Also is it recommended to get some strobe lights,or would the lights above be enough lighting? i wont do much photos indoors,but in some cases i might.sorry,ill mainly be doing portraits or just people,not items. thanks very much. more

Resolved Question: how can i get better exposure in studio portrait photography?

I am using a Nikon d5000 slr with a interfit ex150 mark 2 lighting kit. The thing that is confusing me is the aperture. My cameras sync speed is 1/200th of a second. I have read many times that the best aperture for portrait photography is f2.8-f.8, the only thing is, if i use these values, my photo becomes a bit washed out even though my shutter speed is set to 1/200th. My iso is set to 100 and my lights arent even set to full power! What would be your recommendations for portrait photography in a home studio? Also just so you know, I am using the kit lens which is 18-55 VR. Is this ok for portrait work? I found that I love photography and recently purchased a DSLR camera and am taking a college course of photography. My question is how much would you pay for someone to photograph your child for 1.5 hours at either your home or a park. I personally hate studios. Here is some pictures I took yesterday and today. I'm DYING to know: How do Vegetarian/Vegan celebrities manage to exist happily in their careers when every single thing they do is dictated by their companies? I mean, theyd have to make sure noone ever uses an animal product on their hair or skin, that theyre never given clothing to wear made from animals (and its impossible to tell with shoes what is and isnt made from animals), that theyll never sit on leather chairs, etc. And this isnt just music videos movies and photo shoots im talking about, but when they go to most recording studios and offices and such there are ALWAYS leather CHAIRS! Vegetarianism/Veganism affects most aspects of a persons life. Thats alot to include in a contract. I would assume that before they become an asset to the company alot of people end up getting rather pissed off at them, and theyre probably given animal products without their knowing, no? Please someone tell me how they can live happily as vegetarians/vegans in the entertainment realm. This has been boggling my mind forever. Im sure the big timers get their way more often, what about new recruits? How would THEY go about getting what they need? Would any entertainment company listen to a contract like that or would they dismiss the soon-to-be employee? I have so many questions on this."They don't beat their meat, they just eat their wheat." I am starting off doing side photography jobs. I have been working in portrait studios for over 9 years and I'm currently a studio manager. The difference between my studio and my side photography is huge. I work for Lifetouch portrait studios (located inside a JCPPenney) I shoot with a Nikon D2X at work but all the settings are basically locked. So I don't have much creative freedom as I do with my personal Nikon D90. My studio work has been featured in many advertisements, marketing, website, magazines & stuff for Lifetouch. So I know my company likes the work I submit. As for my own personal out of studio work all of it is self taught. I have no schooling behind my work. Although I do have a creative eye for things & most of my subjects have been my family/friends. I have never charged anyone nor have I made a pricing list. IDK where I should start. I know I will need to make a contract for services provided but where should I start my pricing? I want to be fair, yet still be able to make a profit. Voting Question: Problems discerning appropriate white balance? (photography)?

I think I am "white balance" retarded. With all of my indoor shots...I guess I can tell something is off, but not by how much, or in what way. If I knew, I could probably fix it. Also, looking at photos, I can't tell which ones have "good" white balance. Just wanted some opinions on this shot! I did this shoot almost a week ago and finally managed to get this image uploaded! :) Was shot with D700 in studio with 2 soft boxes, a beauty dish, and umbrella! I do not think my photography is fantastic or amazing but I have put allot of hard work and study time into this and its nice to address that it is possible to produce a half decent image in a short period of time! Look at it more in a glass half full mentality and veiw it as a you too can do it with a little effort :) the only photoshoping that was done to the image was a slight soften in the skin to take out some of the minor skin blemishes.. eyes where not shoped.. thanks all the same for your answer though :):) thank you for the advice on the eva shoots I will look into that and try my best to mimic the placement of both lighting and model.... and I do not take it too hard your recomendations to fix teh photo dont worry about "tearing it to pieces" it is how I have learned thus far :) and thank you for your opinions! more

Voting Question: How do 3D Animators start out?

My fiance has been out of school for almost 2 years, he went to the Art Institute for 3D Animation, graduated top of his class and has since been keeping up with the new software, programs as well as making new creations so he will not get out of practice. We live in Pennsylvania, so there really isn't much demand for it around here without having to move out of state, which isn't a problem except I am still in school and would like to finish before moving. So, does anyone know how all those 'big' animators who are now working with Pixar and Disney started out? He really does have a lot of talent, the artist gene runs in the family. If someone would just give him a chance he'll do wonderful. He's applied but everyone wants 3-5 years of experience, how is he suppose to gain that experience if no one will even look at his resume? He has been working as a photo editor at a photography studio, but thats not what he wants to be doing forever. Any ideas out there?He does have a demo reel posted on youtube. I just started taking team photos. I am not a photography studio...but enjoy taking pictures and I am just "spreading my wings" so to speak. At a recent photo session, I set up my lights, backdrops, etc. getting ready to take team pictures. At the same time a parent came in and set up her tripod and camera right next to mine. I asked the Mom if she was taking the team pictures...hoping she would get the hint...but she just said, No, she was taking pictures for her own personal use. I tried to be tactful and went about taking the pictures required...but she would then push me out of the way taking her own pictures. The whole situation became confusing and I did not get the pictures or quality that I was hoping to get. I am hoping this team will ask me back again next time, but I am worrying that this mother will show up again. I was thinking about requesting no other cameras be present during the next shoot, but I don't want to appear rude. Then I thought I would request only pictures be taken AFTER I have taken the pictures I want. How do I tactfully request parents refrain from picture taking without appearing rude to the parents on the team. Personally I think this mother was rude, but some people just don't take hints. What do you think??? more

Photography is my passion. I want to work in a studio, darkroom, portraits, the like. But I was looking at the wages in my state for a wide percentile of photographers' wages and I wasn't exactly satisfied. Would it be dumb or naive to consider looking for another part-time job? And if not, what are some of your suggestions? And for the record, because I know that sometimes it depends, I'm a female freshman in high school, looking forward to Photo 1 next year, then Photo 2 and 3 every year. I play three different instruments and am extremely musically inclined, and my favorite subjects are history and math. This may give you an idea if you wanted my key interests, should you be so kind as to suggest some part-time jobs to hit a satisfying wage. i was doing a shoot on saturday and i had a couple aspiring artist that need photos done for their CD cover but they ended up showing up late and it started raining so it got a little dark and almost every photo i took came out dark in the face or the photo was very dark. I do not have studio equipment so i couldn't use that. it was outdoors I was using my canon rebel XTi with a canon 430ex ii flash ..any suggestions? tips? more

Voting Question: Where do professional photographers send their photos to be developed ?

I am currently in college for photography and have a very high quality dslr, and a studio set up in my home and some friends have asked me to do photos of their children. I considered putting the high resolution photos onto a disc, but I decided against it and would like to have the photos developed. I would like to know where professional photographers send their photos to be developed.as there is a huge difference between the quality of the prints that I have had developed at, lets say Blacks(costco,walmart too) and the photos that I've had done from my daughters photographer (they say KODAK professional on the back) So where, in Ottawa could I have my photos developed like the professional photographers do. I am sure that eventually in school we will cover the whole "business" aspect of getting your photos developed, but as of right now I have no idea.For those saying to "Develop them myself" I am talking about DIGITAL photographers. A digital photographer does not develop their own photos, they take them to a professional lab. I was asking about professional labs in Ottawa. If you have no clue about photography (which I assume you don't if you didn't understand the term DSLR .. key being digital) then please refrain from answering questions about photography please. more

Resolved Question: Can I post childrens photos on flickr?

I used to work for a photography studio that took pictures primarily of young children from ages 0 to 5 years old. They had a strict policy of never emailing these photos bc of stigma from child pornography. None of these photos were ever inappropriate, the children are always clothed sometimes in uniform and posed adequately. My question is this: now that I've left that job, I would love to post these pictures on flickr as part of my portfolio, but I'm afraid of copyright infringement and other issues bc the subjects are not my children. I always thought that bc I took the images that means they are my images but I was working for this company so does that mean the images belong to them? I also thought that if I alter the image enough i can get away with it. Can anyone help me? Can I get in trouble for posting these pictures online? more

Resolved Question: PLEASE HELP my Panasonic Lumix has lost all my photos!?

I really hope someone can help with this! I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS4 and have previously successfully transferred photos from this to my computer using Photofun Studio (the program that came with the camera). However, this morning, I was transferring the photos and when I came back, I found that only the first 6 had transferred and that the others (I had more than 150) are nowhere to be found on my camera. Furthermore, when I try to take a new photo the screen displays, 'WRITE ERROR PLEASE CHECK THE CARD' so the only photos left on my camera are those 6. I definitely did not delete the lost pictures and am wondering if anyone knows anything I can do to retrieve these as they had great sentimental value and I am on the verge of tears right now lol! Any help would be great! more
