My objection to this deletion. This question was asked a few days ago in the Reptile section of the Pets category: ______________________________________… "At the Reptile Super Show I want to bring my Cannon. What setting should I put it on to take pics of the.....?" ______________________________________… In reply to this question I posted the following: ______________________________________… "As I have just posted to a similar question, I do not like the idea of these shows. I am a contractor in the exhibition & event industry and as such I know how inappropriate it is to take reptiles to these events. They are subjected to all manner of hazards and at great risk of cross infection. I am pleased to say that such events do not take place here in the UK since the tightening of the Animal Act in 2007. I have gone into great detail on how these events pose a significant risk to animals on a number of forums and have had support from and given support to the Tortoise Trust and Tortoise Protection Group to try to convince UK reptile keepers not to attend the Terraristika show in Hamm, Germany, or any other such event. The organisers of these events are always dubious about photographers, believing they may be from the press on a mission to expose the unsuitable and often inhumane conditions in which these animals are kept, the way they are treated and the unnecessary extreme stress they are subjected to throughout the show. The organisers reluctance to allow photography is really an admission of their knowledge of these inhumane conditions suffered by the animals for the sake of profit. In my opinion, as an event contractor and tortoise owner, these events should be outlawed." ______________________________________… I object to the deletion of this post. This was not, in my opinion, a violation the Community Guidelines, it was an opinion based on knowledge of the events industry, from the fact that I am a contractor in that industry with over 25 years experience, knowledge of reptiles, gained as a keeper of Tortoises and factual reports from a recognised organisation, active in the protection, care and welfare of tortoises, both wild and captive. The point of my post was to try to bring awareness to those whom I would not expect to be aware, of the hazards these events pose to the animals taken to them for sale to the public. Those who visit these events have no idea of what goes on during the build-up and break-down of the show, or what goes on behind the scenes during the show. After this debate on another forum ( http://www.shelledwarriors.co.uk/forum/s… ) I, using the screen name "Pies", concluded that far too many so called 'pet owners' were in fact little more than 'collectors', who seemed to be treating animals as you might treat a stamp collection. Resolved Question: What's a good starter camera for me?

So I'm considering getting into being a photographer. I'm still a teenager, and obviously don't have all the money in the world. So it would have to be around the £100 mark. My previous camera was pretty suckish. It took pretty darn great photos and videos, but there was a weird problem with the battery. If I put brand new batteries in it, it would only last a few minutes and then say the battery was low and would die. Then I would have to leave it for a while and then turn it on again, use it for a few minutes, then it would die again. I don't know what was wrong with it, but I want to move onto a new one that will stay on for a lot longer, and take good videos and photos. I'm hoping it would have an anti-blur thing, so if I take a wobbly photo, it could autocorrect it? Because I have taken some pretty good photos on my rubbish phone camera and they would've looked great if I hadn't wobbled, or if my object hadn't moved (I enjoy taking photos fo my pets!) I'd like one to have a lovely clear picture in normal lights, since I'm not gonna have any fancy lights or anything, so hopeuflly it has quite a few mb's. And this is gonna probably make the camera a bit worse, but it would be ideal if I could buy it from Argos (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Home.htm) I'm not too bad at the old Photoshop, so could probably fiddle around a lot with the effects there, but it would be great if the pictures without editing would be clear, bright, and focused. So maybe if it had that people's face thing where it can focus on lots of people's faces? I will most likely be taking lots of group photos of me and my friends (7 or 8 people in total) I am interested in using the camera for taking photos of people, animals, outdoor things (like flowers, plants, little ladybirds, etc) and it would probably be useful to have a zoom. I would probably bring it around a lot, so hopefully it wouldn't be huge and bulky. I am hoping to start off wtih a quite compact one, and then if my photography gets better, then I could move onto one of those big fancy black ones that I can put on a tri-pod, but not yet. Yes, I know, I won't be able to get all this ideally on a camera that's around £100, but the closest to my demands would be awesome. Theres a group of about 5 people, I went to secondry school with them, we wern't friends but we didn't hate each other, then we went to college... and now on facebook I keep hearing second hand, and seeing comments they write to each other, making fun of me.. I do fashion photography, and I see them write things to each other like ''HAHAHA fashion photography'' and really sarcastic things... Im proud of the fashion work Ive done... :/ I wouldn't go make fun of other people, so I don't know why there doing this to me... It also annoys me, they don't ever ever say it to my face at college or wherever... I have to discover it or be told by someone ''they've been talking about you'' I just wish the idiots would grow up, were all 17-18 years old now... :/ I'd remove them all on facebook, but I think that would make things worse, I just wish they wouldn't see me as their target.. just because I like to do fashion photography and Im not scared to upload the pictures for all to see, and I like things that most guys don't.. Its just.. I got played by this girl that showed every sign of liking me 12months ago, went out on many dates, she kept chasing/calling/texting me, constant flirting with me etc To cut a long story short she didnt like me (only as a friend). As you do i got over this n went forward with how i was. Im the kinda guy thats always up for a laugh, im the funny, confident and sit quite highly in my group of friends, i organise all the parties and what were doing each week (i go to a small school n theres about 30 of us n were all really close :D). Anyways I met this girl at a friends party a few months back and weve been out on 10 dates since then. We talk to one another at least once a week, whether its through facebook/texts/phone calls etc. It was her 17th birthday mid jan and just the two of us went out on her b'day (i got her a card and a cd) and went really well. I feel really comfortable with her. Shes the only person that ive founded who fully gets me haha (im a bit random lol) She chased after me i didnt chase after her, shes the one who was always asking me to places being overly touchy and flirty. I know shes into photography so i took her to Alice and Wonderland premire in london for her course at school :) (johnny Depp lol) She loved it! After this seeming as things were going so well between us i asked her if she would want to turn it into a relationship (ive never had a girlfriend) She said shes going through something right now and doesnt want to feel like shes leading me on :( I mean we spend hours just talking about anything and everything, she would always invite me out to places n want to meet me (i dont go to the same school as her) :) I really felt she was interested :/ BUT i dont understand why she would spend so much time with me if she wasnt interested? This is twice this has happened n its ruined my confidence completely (im a really confident happy guy but this aswell as other things has really got to me). more

I'm sorry I know you must be sick of constantly having to comment on mediocre photography, but I've seen such constructive criticism on others' answers, I'd love to have a bit of that please :) I've been looking at as many photos as I can on Flickr and on here, I'm trying to figure out the basics about photography and how to use my camera, and eventually, I'd love to be able to take proper photos. I can't do a course right now as I'm a working mum, and time is scarse to actually take photos as it is (don't want to post photos of my kiddies online so that's them ruled out). Anyway, my point is, could you give me some advice to make my photos look more like "photography" as opposed to snapshots, and less boring. I have fantastic countryside around me, but every thing I take seems to end up like boring, uninteresting stuff, I bet you guys could make brilliant pictures where I am. Are there any bits in my photostream that I should "aim for" ? What would you think would be most interesting to work on ? What can I do to improve, generally ? Resolved Question: Advice on taking A Level Art?

I've just started Year 12, and I have taken art, but i'm really getting scared about it and having doubts. I could take Biology (A at GCSE) instead as it fits in with my timetable, but it doesn't really have anything to do with what I would like to go into... I'm thinking the media / maybe studying ancient things / photography (but maybe photography as just a hobbie) I have also taken Psychology, Classical Civilisation and English Language which I am happy with. So I was wondering if anyone here has taken A Level art and if you could tell me about it some more.. i'm worried about the work load and i'm not amazing.. I got a B at GCSE and there are some pretty good people in my group at the moment. I've been doing some research and if i wanted study anything arty at uni then most don't actually require A Level art, but just a portfolio of work. And I would be much happier to do my own work in my own time (but I may not have the time at home with work from other subjects) I'm really worried about this and would so appreciate anyone telling me about their experiences with a level art and how different it is to gcse etc.. thankyou so much Xalso, i wouldn't take anything like art at uni, but would it be most useful to have it if i went to study media related things..? what would be the best range of subjects if i'm not sure on what to study at uni..? ..sorry this is so long, but thanks if you answer :) more

Hi :) I'm ready to choose and apply for my a-levels by September, and this is what I have decided on so far and my GCSE grades: French: Currently achieving A-A*, want to continue in university. English Literature: A in mock exam, A* in two c/w, B in another. Media Studies: A* for all 6 c/w hand ins, A in mock exam. I have to choose a fourth option, and I would have taken photography had it not been for my love of media. They still consider media a group 4 option, which means they really do consider it the lowest of the low, despite how much I enjoy it and wish to continue it in university. Now for the help with my fourth choice, these might help you get to know me better :) -I've always averaged science, but I'm not exactly enthusiastic about it. -I don't want to take ICT despite my interest at home, I find the course really dull. Also, the teachers at the school are terrible for that subject. -I might be interested in psychology. My friends & I took our babies swimming today - for two of them it was their first time so my friend asked could she take in her waterproof camera & was told no - its their policy (and that of most public pools I know) Now I understand why the "no photography" rule is there & that it is to protect children, however, I personally would not object to a group of mums who were obviously only taking pictures of their own babies.
