Open Question: My camera is blurry for no reason. HELP?

I have a sony cybershot digital camera. The macro is usually BRILLIANT on it and I have never had any problems with it. Then one day I decided to take some macro photos when it went blurry. It usually does this so I switch it off and on and then took a few pictures. Still blurry. I haven't dropped it or done anything bad to it so it doesn't make any sense why it has become like this. Thanks, Tracey more

Resolved Question: Sufficient dpi for a poster-sized print - 600 dpi or 1200 dpi?

I'd like to buy a digital photo and have it printed as a gift. Obviously, I'd like the best quality print possible. I have the option of buying a 600 dpi download or a 1200 dpi file on CD. Assuming I want to print a high-quality, frame-worthy print that's poster-sized, do I need to spring for the 1200 dpi file or is 600 dpi sufficient? more

Open Question: Looking for a DSLR Camera?

Hello Photographers I’m looking to purchase a nice camera for my aunt’s birthday that is next month before I ship off to USMC boot camp. I am a techie, but cameras specs are just not in my forte. So what I will do is give you guys the uses of the camera, and what I’m looking at. The main purpose of the camera is going to be taking pictures of children. She is a teacher that runs an after school program, and also takes pictures to put an online album of her child’s little league games. So therefore the camera will need to take excellent fast movement pictures. She takes pictures of the kids just being natural and of their faces. Also as far as moving pictures she likes to do drive by photos when on the road. Right now she has an old point and shoot digital camera. It only has 7.1 mega pixels and sometimes photos will not come out well. With this camera she takes about 2-3 hundred photos per game. She likes to take pictures of kids sliding home or throwing the ball, so she has to time everything right with slow processing camera to capture the moment in time with all dirt clouds, and the facial expression, the whole atmosphere thing. You can imagine it can be difficult doing that with an old digital. So she needs to take rapid fire pictures, that way she knows she got it. That I at least know you need a DSLR camera to do. Also the camera would need good rechargeable built in battery life, since her current camera runs on AA batteries which die often, especially if they are not lithium, they will die in a day. I’m willing to spend a good chunk of money on the camera since it would last her years. She takes very nice pictures but she is amateur when it comes to technical, so I don’t want to get her a very complicated camera. I imagine she’s decent with lenses, but she would have to take some time to learn all of the camera’s features (iso and terms like that) since she is used to point-wait-shoot camera that does all that for her and with auto-focus as well. It would be ideal if this new camera had a very good quality auto mode. Also she likes to take black and white photos since they look nice and are popular. I have tried comparing cameras and just looking at the specs is one thing, but getting advice from experienced people who recommend one that suits her needs best. I don’t want to just pick one based on its awesome specs or price that might not be the greatest for her uses. My spending range is about $500-$750 for a camera with lens since they sell in kits. I prefer to get it from newegg.com since they have amazing shipping and service; or at least from amazon.com. I have made two comparison charts to help, and you won’t have to search as much. If you feel there is better options, feel free to explore outside those choices, these are just what I’m looking at. Examples: Canon Rebel T1i, XS, XSi, Nikon d3000 Her Camera: http://store.kodak.com/store/ekconsus/en_US/pd/Z710_Zoom_Digital_Camera/productID.146585700 Two comparisons charts: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006865%20600053231%204021&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&CompareItemList=784%7C30-120-355%5E30-120-355-TS%2C30-120-278%5E30-120-278-TS%2C30-113-222%5E30-113-222-TS%2C30-184-096%5E30-184-096-TS%2C30-184-108%5E30-184-108-TS http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_p_72_0?rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A%21493964%2Cn%3A502394%2Cn%3A281052%2Cn%3A3017941%2Cp_36%3A-75099%2Cp_n_condition-type%3A2224371011%2Cp_72%3A1248879011&bbn=3017941&ie=UTF8&qid=1283440567&rnid=1248877011 I appreciate everyone's help in advance. Please be thorough on your choice, so I may understand why you chose that camera.I also know that in order to get the best speed, I need a high class memory stick. What size is good? Needs to hold about 500 of whatever camera you choose. She will probably take videos with the camera two, but that's not its main use. Something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820208536Also I just learned about live view feature and want that in the new camera to make it more point and shoot friendly more

Open Question: I need help super bad with a math problem PLEASE HELP?

1)EXTENDED PROBLEM SOLVING - Digital cameras capture images in rows and columns of pixels, which are small rectangular colored dots. The more pixels in a given space, the greater the detail of the image. A) The total number of pixels in an image is the product of the number of pixels in a row and the number of picels in a column. Your camera produces an image tht has 1280 pixels in a row and 1024 pixels in a column. Find the total number of pixels. [ Answer found - 1,310,720 pixels] B) A mega pixel is 1,000,000 pixels. Find, to the nearest tenth, the number of megapixels in the image part (a). [Answer found - 1.3 megapixels] C) Let "m" be the number of megapixels in an image, and let "l" and "w" be the length and width in inches of a printed photo. A print is clear if the value of the expression ["m" over "lw"] is 0.017 or greater. Can you make a clear 8 inch by 10 inch print of the image in part (1)? Explain. Please, please, please HELP. Open Question: My Canon Digital Rebel XTi stopped working...?

I've had the camera since they released it a few years ago and I've never had any trouble with it. Now it won't even turn on. What happened: -I turned my camera on to take a few photos of my dog, turned the camera off, attempted to turn it on to take a photo of another dog of mine and it wouldn't turn on at all. This is all within a matter of a minute tops. So not wanting to jump to conclusions, I assumed my battery had died so I took the batter out and put it on the charger. After about an hour of charging the light went green and I put it back in my camera. Still nothing! Does anyone know what has happened and is there possibly any way I could fix this myself or around how much it could cost to fix it? I do not have $900 for a new camera and I would love love love help from someone who knows what they are talking about! Thank you so much for reading. more

Open Question: Should I be pissed off... or not?

In my religion, there is a ceremony that you have to do if you turn 16. For my sister's ceremony, my parents invited about 20-25 people. They did it pretty small, but I helped out a lot. Now, for mine, my parents are inviting 7 people. I am not even kidding. Not only that, they are expecting me to decorate... for my own celebration (usually it doesn't work this way...). Should I be pissed off? I'm not, I'm actually kind of sad. They always slack off on me because I am the younger one (e.g. getting professional photos of my sister at her graduation and dance recitals, taking digital pictures of me and not even getting them printed).P.S. This is a REALLY important ceremony-thingIt has nothing to do with the money, trust me more

Open Question: DATING PROFILE PIC- ADVICE PLEASE?

Open Question: Is it long and lost forever?!?! Please help me find it!!!?

Back in 2006 I used my digital camera to take some photos. I had some photographs that meant a lot to me and wanted to put them online, but I didn't have a scanner... so I used my digital camera to take photos of these 35mm photos and I uploaded them to my laptop, then online. I do not have the original copies of these photographs anymore, nor can I locate the digital camera that I used to take the pictures with. And I don't remember the site I uploaded them to online. However, I know that I uploaded them to my computer. And my computer has never crashed or anything. So... I am hoping... is it possible that something I uploaded back in 2006 is still available SOMEWHERE on my computer? And if so, how do I find it??? Where should I look? Please help! These photos mean everything to me! I would pay money to have them again!!!!!Ben---> thanks, not going to help though since I have no clue what the pictures are called, they probably have some weird string of numbers and letters like most digital camera pics do more

Open Question: A Question for Police officers (in Aust) regarding investigation procedure ?

My cousin was involved in an assault case about a month ago on the street, the person who assaulted him walked away on a busy street, but was captured on CCTV footage. The police didn't come until like 2 hours later after when the first call to emergency was made by my cousin right after the assault. The officers came and took records of the incident. A few days later, my cousin walked past the same street where the incident happened, and he saw the same guy from far away, so he took pictures (but bit blurry) of the guy from a far with his digital camera. And managed to find out information where he possibly lives on that street (where the assault took place), like in some travellers accommodation inn (my cousin did some investigation himself by asking around). * He reported those 2 pieces of information (photos + where the suspect lives) to the police and have them update his case file. Now 2 weeks have past, and my cousin called today to find out about any new lead ups to the investigation. And they told him that the CCTV footage on that day have captured image of the guy who matched my cousin's description in the initial oral record to the officer. *BUT no one was able to identify who he was* *Although we have his image on CCTV , but we dont know who he is, so the case is pretty much --CLOSED-- * So my cousin asked the police, did they went to that "accommodation place" address where my cousin found out which the suspect possibly lives in to investigate if any similar person that matched the photographs (that my cousin took) lives there ? They didn't answer the question. They also told my cousin : "You shouldn't be taking photographs of him, because that' s considered invasion of privacy " Problem: Do you think there is something wrong with the procedure: 1) That they CLOSED the case despite already having CAPTURED THE IMAGE of the person on CCTV footage which matched the descriptions that my cousin provided, but their reason to close the case was -- *no one could identify who that person was* ? [ Of course not, he's not a celebrity or bin laden, how can you identify normal people on the street - if that's the excuse they give for all cases , then how will anything ever get solved with the police] 2) They didn't pursuit deeper into the investigation despite my cousin having provided new leadup information -- photographs and where that person lives -- all they had to do is just go there and find out (eg from the inn's front desk attendant) if anyone that matches the face in the photograph lives in that accommodation, if yes, then they'll know the identity of that person ! It's a possible leadup to solving the case but the police didn't take this final step and just closed the case instead. Is there anything wrong with the procedure ? If my cousin demands that they go there and find out - does he have the right to do so ? 3) Also, did my cousin constituted "invasion of others privacy" like what the officer has warned by taking photograph of the suspect from a far distance ? [If that's the case then no photographs of anyone will ever appear on newspapers or tabloids because the press would all have broken the law]" We have the *image* of the guy already, but we couldn't identify who he is " ? - Does that make any sense to you who is reading this? I am sure with the advanced technology and resources the police has, and if they really *wanted* to find out who he is, they can. JUST ONE STEP AWAY from solving the case - but they didn't bothered to go on and just called the case close. more

Resolved Question: Arkon Video lens on a Canon DSLR?

My dad used to be a photographer and filmer and such back in the day and he pulled out his old photo bag and was like "I sold most of my stuff but still have this" There was the.. Arkon Video 'Wide Angle' 0.5x High Quality Lens & the... Arkon Video 'Telphoto' 1.6x High Quality Lens I'm just getting into photography and i have a canon rebel xs and the lenses didn't really fit.. There isn't really any digital wiring or anything in the lens.. it's basically a tube with glass in it with writing on the side and i assume it's an old film video lens.. Is there any way i could buy a connector piece for it to put on my canon?? It would be nice to not have to buy a wide angle and telephoto lens if i have these already.. I would rather spend 20 bucks on a nice connector piece than 500 on a new wide angle! Thanks more

Resolved Question: Where is the best place to print out digital photos for entry in a photo contest?

The museum at my University is running a Wildlife Nature Photo Contest. The rules are that the photo be printed 8x12 or 8/10 and mounted on a 11x14 foam core board. I have the boards and spray glue for mounting them but beyond that can anyone recommend where to take the photos to be printed, and should I resize them or leave them the highest resolution they are and just crop them? Do you think digital photo finish spray would be okay or would they frown on that? I'd spray this on top to seal it and protect the pics from smudges and the like. I am in Lincoln, Nebraska and if I don't get any other suggestions I'm going to Kinkos... thanks! more

Resolved Question: Can I be sure that nobody has stolen my files?

Hey everyone. I've already asked this on a different section of YA but I got only two answers and neither was a straight one. So I'll just have to ask this again in a different area in the hopes that SOMEBODY who knows what they're talking about can help me. A couple of months ago for stupid reasons I ended up taking some 'inappropriate' pics of myself on my digital camera. I felt ridiculous for doing it afterwards and deleted them off the camera but then i read somewhere that pictures can be recovered off memory cards. So i took some more photos to overwrite the deleted data and then connected the camera to my computer to check on the program Recuva (photo recovery freeware) if the photos had been overwritten yet. They hadn't but when I checked back a couple of weeks ago, they had been overwritten with photos i deleted from my vacation. I am quite a nervous person on the whole, and now I'm paranoid that somehow the pictures could still be recovered, or already have been. I did recover one of them from Recuva before it was overwritten, just out of interest, to see if the file was damaged from the program, but then immediately deleted it and ran CCleaner to delete it permanently from my recycle bin. I'm seeking reassurance, not someone telling me that i was stupid to take pics like that (i already know that). I didn't send the photos to anyone, no one has seen them but me, but i am still paranoid that someone has hold of them and are putting them all over the internet somehow! It's really upsetting me and I feel worried all the time, despite KNOWING that I did not send them to anyone and have deleted them. I just need a computer pro to tell me that a) it's definitely unlikely someone would want to hack MY computer and that if they had, I would know about it (I have anti-virus and firewall) and b) there's no way my pictures have been 'leaked', so to speak. I'm more worried about an outside attack on my computer rather than the memory card being stolen... the camera's in safe hands so that's not really an issue. I just get the feeling someone could be hacking my computer or the pictures could somehow have magically made their way across the internet, which sounds stupid but paranoid people say stupid things. more

Resolved Question: please help! can people see my photos even after all this?

hi, well a couple of months ago for stupid reasons i ended up taking some 'inappropriate' pics of myself on my digital camera. after i took them i felt really dumb about it and deleted them off the camera but then i read somewhere that pictures can be recovered off memory cards. so i took some more photos to overwrite the deleted data and then connected the camera to my computer to check on the program recuva if the photos had been overwritten yet. they hadn't yet, but after a while, when i checked back a couple of weeks ago, they had been overwritten with photos i deleted from my vacation. i am quite a nervous person on the whole, and i am very very paranoid that somehow the pictures could still be recovered, or already have been. i did recover one of them from recuva while it was still recoverable to see if the picture was altered in any way or whatever, but then immediately deleted it and ran ccleaner to delete it permanently from my recycle bin. really, i'm just asking for reassurance, not someone telling me that i was stupid to take pics like that (i already know that, and i wish i hadn't). i didn't send the pics to anyone, no one has seen them but me, but i am still paranoid that someone has hold of them and are putting them all over the net somehow! it's really upsetting me and depressing me and i feel like i've ruined opportunities for myself. i keep thinking i can't do certain things because someone will see the photos and think badly of me, even though i didn't send them to anyone and have deleted them. i just need a computer pro to tell me that a) it's definitely unlikely someone would want to hack MY computer and that if they had, i would know about it (i have anti-virus and firewall btw) and b) it was safe to load the photos on to recuva i.e. recuva aren't stealing my photos! believe me when i say that i'm scared... i don't usually do stupid things like this, it was a moment of madness, and now i can't put my mind at ease. i'm worried sick :( please help!i am more concerned about an outside attack on my computer rather than the memory card being stolen... the camera's in safe hands so that's not really an issue. i just get the feeling someone could be hacking my computer or the pictures could somehow have magically made their way across the internet. i sound insane. that's probably because i am, but i need to know these things for peace of mind more

I want to join the photography club at my local high school, so I'm looking for some constructive criticism to get me prepared. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs200.ash2/46301_149740538384550_100000458156231_338360_4331012_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs193.ash2/45637_149739678384636_100000458156231_338359_1745967_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs385.snc4/44817_149739651717972_100000458156231_338357_4186551_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs193.ash2/45637_149739675051303_100000458156231_338358_3166903_n.jpg http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs052.snc3/13967_101966019828669_100000458156231_53844_4031404_n.jpg Thank you. Thanks, I live in San Diego, California. more

Open Question: Best lense to buy for Canon EOS?

I just graduated high school, and I want to start trying my hand at digital photography a little more (therefore I'm not looking for anything too expensive) right now I have a basic 18-55mm Lens, and a 35-80mm from my old camera. I don't know alot about the cameras and lenses themselves (I plan on taking a photography class in college, I would hope that will help me learn) so I'm not sure what would be the best Lens for me to get next. So I guess I'll start with the problems I have with the 18-55mm...keep in mind, I've used the 18-55 mm far more, so if I should be using the 35-80 for any of this, let me know. - I was recently in Nashville, taking pictures of the skyline at night..... this didn't last long because it was extremely blurred, even after adjusting my settings. - Most of my pictured involve alot of movement..... and in effect, lots of blobs with this Lens. - Recently, I took pictures while a friend played at a bar. The low light really effected the contrast....and she showed up blurry. I really like close up photography...but in the near future I will be taking photos from far away, so I would like a decent zoom as well. more

Open Question: XD Card problems on a Olympus U Tough 8000?

My daughter has an Olympus U Tough 8000. It takes a XD Card. When I connect the camera to a laptop or PC (Both with Olympus software loaded) I can briefly see the images within "My Computer" on the PC drive that the camera is plugged into - In this case "G" Drive. After a few seconds they then all disappear. The drive letter previously connected also disappears. A message appears stating that the camera is NOT Connected to the PC. When looking at the back of the camera about 50 images are displayed. However when viewed albeit briefly on the PC I can not only see those image but also 2 folders containing additional images. These additional images are the photos that did appear earlier today on the camera but we then tried to move them to the pc and they never made it over. I am not sure if there is a fault on the DX Card. I want to access them to have another go but I cannot now see them on the camera at all. Not sure where to go from here or whether to give up now. I do have image recovery software called ""don't panic" but it relies on selecting a drive letter to work on to recover the images. Because the drive only appears to connect for a few seconds the software can see every drive letter which is connected except the one I want it to work on. Very frustrating. Any bright ideas gratefully received. I also have a card reader built into an external hard (Western Digital)drive but it does not respond when I insert the DX Card. I normally get a green light on other card types such as Compact Flash Cards. Thanks in advance. more

Open Question: What is the best paper for printing digital scrapbook backgrounds?

I want to use digital papers and would like suggestions on the best paper for printing them out. I make greeting cards and I've been told that a good quality matte photo paper is good for this. Any other ideas for me?By digital papers I mean background scrapbook or cardmaking papers that are downloaded digitally from the net to a graphics program. They can then be printed for use as scrapbook or greeting card backgrounds. I'm looking for the best quality paper in order to print these 6x6 images as crisply as possible. These printouts would then be adhered to cardstock for card-making. more

Resolved Question: Is it bad to re-charge my digital camera without letting the battery run out completely first or is this false?

I've heard that it wrecks the battery if you charge the camera before you fully drain the battery? Is this true because tomorrow I am taking my camera with me to take photos, but it's charging now and I want to use it after it finishes charging, but not enough to fully drain the battery. Can any one explain this to me?The battery is a LI-42B. more

Resolved Question: Is my digital camera broken? Or does it just suck?

My Nikon Coolpix S230 is always grainy and always has weird pixelated effect. Is it broken? It does this when I take pictures too and the photo's quality sucks terribly! No matter what setting I have it on or what I do. Should I send it back to Nikon? I took a video of an example of what the Nikon does when I shoot a video or take a picture. Can you see the static? It's NOT from my Samsung camera I was shooting with by the way. Here: http://www.youtube.com/user/DGkatie?feature=mhumOh you may be confused. Here's what I did. With my NIKON I shot a video of my SAMSUNG. Then while the video of the NIkon shooting, I recorded video of the Nikon taking video of the samsung. LOL confusing, sorry. I should have used a different object!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4vwqntk6X0 Oh. here this should work. Digital Zoom isn't on more

Voting Question: Digital Photography printing question?

When you want to print your photo's from your SLR, is it best to all way's leave the photo at its original resolution unless you want to crop it? I am guessing the best format is a raw format to print from, like a tiff format or something? I believe it is best to shoot all your picture in raw and sharpen them using software. I am finding that it does make everything sharper, it also seams to make it look bad at the same time. I also compared some of my digital prints to some old film photo and they look so smooth but i will admit not so sharp. Any Information i will be great and appreciated :) more

Voting Question: best digital camera for macro photos?

I don't want to spend thousands on a professional camera, but want really high quality, good for macro photos. I'm looking to spend $200-900, whatever it takes to get the quality I am looking for, of course, wouldn't mind keeping the price on the LOW end! I also want to be able to use this camera on the go, and don't want to worry about a bunch of lenses and such-so I'm looking for something relatively compact. Being able to upload photos onto my computer with ease and not having to lug around a ton of extra batteries is really important to me. I am open to any suggestions and advice! Thanks in advance! :) more

Resolved Question: What is a good beginners SLR camera for someone who wants to get into photography?

I have recently discovered a personal passion for photography I never knew I had after recently taking some photos and realising that they were pretty good... but the quality was awful! At the moment I have a standard £70 everyday digital camera, but would love to take the next big step up to buying an SLR camera! As a complete beginner to SLR cameras I would love too have some recommendations of a good beginners SLR camera. I have spent countless hours researching this on the internet, only to find too many recommendations! I really don't know which one to buy! I did come across the Canon EOS 400D but I believe this is not for sale anymore? But heard that it was a very good beginners camera? Thankyou in advance for all your help. more
