Anybody out there still use film cameras? Especially for black and white with a 4x5 view camera. I've been out of the loop for quite a while. I had my own darkroom when digital was just coming into it's own. I've heard there is very little left to choose from in the way of film. I loved T-max, do they still make it? Open Question: good camera that's inexpensive?

I am a 7th grader and interested in photography. I'm really good with electronics and can figure them out pretty easily. I already have a vivitar digital camera and i dont like it much because it takes a while to load, is noisy, the quality isn't good, and its very boring :). So i am looking for a better camera thats pretty easy to use (im not very familiar with special terms and stuff but i can figure it out), takes the fast pictures (as soon as you press the button), has options to change colors:optional(like black and white, sepia, etc), not too heavy or bulky, a little durable (cuz i am only 12) and does that thing where it takes one picture right after another. If possible, i have a budget of under $100 (im hopng to get it for christmas!!). I saw the book around 2003 or 2004 in a large chain store like Borders or Barnes & Noble. On each right page was a quiet black and white photograph of a woman, and on the left hand side was a bit of text about the woman, era or circumstance relating to that particular picture. The text & photos proceeded chronologically to create an autobiographical narrative of the photographer's young life. Later that week I looked up the book on Amazon, and was delighted to discover that the book was a slight hoax--the photographs and texts presented an autobiography that was actually fictional. My interest in artist mythologies and 'art lies' makes me want to revisit this monograph, but no combination of search terms and limitations in Google or Amazon seems to produce the title or author. more

I need some advice on exposing on the fly for a white wedding dress with LOTS of detail. I am photographing my first wedding, it's a 5 o'clock in the evening church wedding. I am doing it for free for a young bride who was otherwise not going have any special photography other than mom's point and shoot. I figured if the bride is willing to let me come and run around and act like a wedding photographer, I can't pass up the opportunity, what's art and photography without practice and taking a few risks right? But, I can't imagine it's easy to meter to photograph a bride in all white and a groom in all black. Any advice on how to best do this without losing the detail in the bride's beautiful dress would be appreciated. Yesterday I was at a small, local festival in my town and a lot of people had brought along their dogs either for the small dog show that was held or just for a walk and to meet people. While I was there I saw a young dog that looked about maybe 10-14 months old. At first glance he looked to be a husky and had a white undercoat with a sort of tan/brown top coat which was slightly orange even. He had large pointed ears which were dark brown/black on the back of them and he had dark brown/black stripes (very faint I might add) along his tail and stopping just as his tail joins his back. He was quite small compared to the couple of other huskies that were there, but they were obviously adults and I would expect them to be taller. The puppy was about the size of an adult miniature schnauzer and he was very cat-like in the way he stood (sort of crouched slightly with one shoulder blade sticking up) His tail was very long and reached the ground when he stood up normally and when he had it erect it was straight with the very tip bents over. He was very friendly with people and other dogs and he was happy to be stroked. I didn't get a chance to ask his owner what breed he was so that is why I'm asking here. Also his tail had little to no feathering on it and was long and skinny. He was not as tall as this dog looks and was maybe half the size of this one, but he didn't seem to be a young puppy. It's been annoying me for a while because I can't decide what he was. For all I know he might have been a mix-breed. Any help would be great. I saw a photography print at Hobby Lobby the other day, and I loved it! It was an artist I had never heard of before, though, and I am very interested in looking up more of his work...I just can't remember his name. :( I wanted to think it was something like...John Mutter...but I know I'm way off, and I've tried looking online for the last hour. The two prints of his that I saw were both very surrealistic. I only remember details about one of them (though I do remember they were both black and white). Is this correct? when u take a picture it captures all the colours in that picture and each colour in that pictures unless it is pure the colours have a tone or lets say a shade of either (black to grey to white) 255 shades i believe or some thing any ways. And then depending on all the differents shades made up of any colour in picture that is what the histogram displays? From left side black to gray to white horazontaly and verticaly repesents the amount of that perticualr shade? I am just trying to fullly understand the histogram. I'm trying to get into photography more, it has always been more a hobby than a profession but am looking into going proffesional soon. What is some good photo editing software that I can start with? I need to know a good camera for a photography one class at a high school. The school description is this : Students enhance their creativity and visual perception through the basic process of black and white photography. Use of cameras, films, light effects, as well as basic darkroom techniques are introduced. The study of famous photographers and a brief history of the medium provide a broad overview of this technical and artistic field. First thing first - I know next to nothing about photography itself or DSLRs. I am 20 and for the past about five or six years have been using my grandfather's Konica 35mm film camera and mostly by hunch, by what I see. I love doing black and white photos and then having the negative for myself, it is pretty special... and expensive. Because I love sports I sent some of y pictures to a sports magazine looking for a photographer and they liked them. Next thing I knew I was signing a contract to work for them but it seems pretty impossible to continue with 35mm and I'd probably have to move to DSLR even though it somehow changes the feel. The camera should be on my expenses and I doubt that I could spend more than 600-700$ for body and standard lenses. I know Sony are not the best in business but as I searched they could use my wide range of Minolta lenses so I could save some cash. But are they good enough for sports photography? Canon have wide range of equipment and are top notch but still I am not Uncle Scrooge... I know it sounds tacky but I don't find Nikon beautiful enough to buy them (though they make terrific pictures)... So back on question - can you recommend something? I have searched through the engine first but that answers were pretty old and this technics changes rapidly (or at least other technics so assume this one too). I really don't want to miss the opportunity to do the two things that I love most - photography and doing sports articles so any help is still a help :)))) more

Resolved Question: How do I get an accurate meter reading?

i mainly shoot b/w film. My camera: voigtlander R3M. Built in meter: centre weighted that is slightly bottom left biased (according to cameraquest) I've recently been reading a lot about zone photography, and it has really helped with getting proper exposure. I read some other testimony about shooting b/w only with a leica for 6 months and he learned more than 5 years in photography schools. Or something to that effect. I have to say, understanding zoning has me understanding my exposure and photography much more clearly. Previsualisation has been a valued tool in my arsenal since. However, since my camera isn't a spot meter, i'm having some trouble getting accurate metering for checking zones. This becomes a particular problem when i'm trying to meter the face for a body shot. Then the meter gets thrown off even more when the model is wearing white or black. I know when I get talented enough, i'll be able to previsualize without a meter (hopefully). but until then, I feel like i'm relying on an inconsistent instrument. Do I really need a spot meter or can I do something to practice getting accurate meter readings with a centre weighted camera? note: i do need to be able to do this without overly relying on a meter because i do a fair amount of street photography (still really bland compositions at the moment, but i'm working on that), and I don't really have the time to meter every zone. any tips to meter / zone on the go?let me rephrase the question a little bit. Are there any ways to use a centre weighted meter like a spot meter? I.e. I want to meter a small object for the shadow areas, but a centre weighted meter meters the surrounding bright area to. What can I do? otherwise: will it work if i move closer to meter that smaller area with a centre weighted meter, then move back out again? Will that change the light? more

However I already have a complete two a period of work experiences as and assistant with primary school and surface design also black and white photography which I have complete a period with colleges.
