Resolved Question: wedding tips: groom is wheelchair bound and wedding is tomorrow!?

A friend contacted me just today to ask if I would shoot her in-laws wedding tomorrow as someone they had asked to do it had backed out at the last minute. I agreed as there is no way they can get someone else on short notice and this is a favor as they couldn't afford a professional wedding photographer. I've only done one wedding so far, also as a favor to someone who could not afford a pro wedding photog. (Just want you pros to know I'm not advertising myself as a pro wedding photog and not taking jobs away from pro photogs for couples who can afford to pay one.) The wedding is at 7pm outdoors so the light should be quite beautiful. This is a very small family affair at the couple's home, probably about 20 guests and fairly casual. The groom was paralyzed a few years ago and so will be in a wheelchair. I'm wondering if anyone has any posing experience or tips for this situation. I'd also love to hear any tips for shooting a wedding outdoors. I had been to the location a few years ago but since I just found out about this I haven't had a chance to go check it out. ANY tips or advice you have to offer (with exception to not shooting the wedding) is very welcome and very appreciated.Thank you for the tips. I was thinking that having others seated when posed with the groom might work best and was trying to figure out how to do that. Chairs seems obvious to me now that it's been mentioned. I don't necessarily want to hide the chair, but also thought that others trying to bend down to the groom's height would look awkward. I do have a couple of larger manual flash units (and one smaller one) and triggers and have been learning off-camera flash. I could take my stands and umbrella boxes and set that up. I just don't have a lot of experience with it yet. Thanks again for all your suggestions. more

Resolved Question: scammed by New Faces Development Centre in Hicksville...Plz help!!?

Hi! I was stopped at Roosevelt Field Mall by one of the scouts of New Faces Development...He said that this company provided exposure so that I could land into a job in acting or modelling. They gave me a call immediately and booked my interview appointment at New Faces immediately. When I went there it all looked so real....with several people waiting in line to be actors or models...There was music...A TV screen advertising IMTA and showing prominent successful prominent actors who had become successful in life. They asked me to fill out a form...Then this guy called Tim called me in for interview ....and he seemed like he was in a hurry and busy becoz his office was so full of people....He just asked me why I was there and told me that I could do this as a hobby and had a lot to offer in the entertainment industry....He showed me a folder filled with pictures of people that they had photographed at New faces and they had appeared in magazines and print ads....And he had so many of those fotoes...It all sounded so legit. Then he showed me his price list sheet which had all the prices of the fotoes listed....some of them were so costly like over 2100 etc...I told him that I was not working and did not have so much money to pay for them. There was a price for photographing 1 look listed for $750. Then he said "I will give you a discount....I will give you 3 looks for $750". I thought it was a good deal and gave him my credit card. He charged my credit card. Then he said ..."lets get started with the first look photoshoot today...and you come back day after tommorrow to shoot the next two looks with more clothes." He then showed me the make up room where their make up artist did my makeup and their photographer took my photoes.....Then as I walked out of there I felt a bit uneasy....becoz in that meeting he had asked me not to tell anyone about the money that I paid!!....So, I decided to check the internet and OMG...I found a whole bunch of articles stating that it is a scam!! and ripoff reports that they have been reported to BBB also...I printed out some of those ripoff reports and went back yesterday to the New faces center. I told him "I have found reports that you are a scam and want my money back. You have been reported to the BBB". Then he said " Macys, HomeDepot etc have scam reports too but do people stop going there? And now you see scam reports against us....I am not going to let that stop me from doing my business ...We have been in business for 16 years...I have my daughter working for me too....And look at all these people we have placed in the industry."....I said "I dont want to continue this any more and want my money back". He said "Well you took pictures already right?" I said "I have called my credit card people already and have asked them to stop the payment you charged me". He said "You cant just walk into a restaurant and pay there and then cancel the credit card transaction the next day...Thats illegal...YOU are scamming us."....He further said " And you took pictures with us....and look at our price list...We have 1 look for $750...and I was being nice to you by giving you the other two looks for FREE". I argued " But you didnt tell me that the other two looks are free...you just said that you were giving me a discount. So, you can divide the $750 by 3 and deduct $250 and give me back $500 at least". He then went back to his list and said "No!!....Our list says that 11 look was for $750...and I was giving you the other two looks for free. Dont change our words...You are scamming us by changing our words."..So basically he was not going to give me my money back. In the end I asked him to give me my CD of pics...and he said I will have to come back next week to get it plus I will have to pay $45 for the CD also (which was part of the agreement). So, I couldnt argue the fact that his price list had $750 for 1 look and he got me to pay it by telling me about this "discount" and photographing me the same day. So, when I got back I called my credit card people and asked them to let the $750 go through since I couldnt argue his price list. And now I have to go back to get my CD. But I feel scammed. I feel he shouldnt have gone back to his original price list of $750 per look after telling me that he was giving me a discount. And now he is telling me that I am scamming him !!...Plus he told me that "BBB was a Bunch of Bullshit...that gets complaints everyday..."...He said " You cant just listen to negative side of things...You have to listen to positive side of things too.."....Plus he looked at my copy of ripoff reports that I confronted him and told me that the complaints were 6 years old....and he was not believing them!! What should I do? Can something be done to stop these people from extracting money out of people by foolCan anyone out there PLEASE HELP ME?? PLEASE... THANKS. more

Resolved Question: What do I need for my website!?

I need help to find out what I need in order for my husband's website to be up and running. He has gotten quotes of around 5K but we do not have that much to invest upfront. I have designed websites before, but never to the degree of what he needs for his site. He coaches high school sports and wants to have a site for students to be seen by college recruiters and we have come up with the following requirements. He is afraid that if we do not go through a professional, that we may not have covered everything if the site begins to have high traffic. I need help with video upload( I would like them to be able to upload their own from the website, but I can do it if need be), and what key items I need to make sure are in place so there are no issues with heavy traffic. Here goes: Player Profile with Photo(Page) Stats and Info Name Attributes Sport(s) Game Stats Honors Awards Academics ACT Scores SAT Scores GPA Potential Major Honors Clubs Teams outside of school Names Schedule Additional Stats Depending on the profile type the customer could have officially recorded stats, such as the 40yd dash or vertical jump. Resolved Question: Are my prices REALLY too low?

I had a professional photographer email me the other day and basically, the point of his message is that no one will take you seriously unless you charge more. What do you think? I charge a $20 session fee for in-home sessions (I bring studio strobes, backdrops, etc). The $20 fee is mainly to cover the babysitter. I charge $5 for 5x7's, $10.00 for 8x10s and wallet sets, and wall portraits I am basically only making about a $30 profit minimum, $50 max Is that too low? How high should I raise them to get them to get "respect" if you think I should raise them? I'd rather shoot and make nothing just to keep in practice than not shoot at all. The only place I really advertise is on craigslist, and I get some business word of mouth, although we've only been living in this state for less than a year so far. He might be right, CL advertising has brought in no business since I lowered my session fee and sold by sheet rather than charging $150 for a disc with 20 + different poses. I just don't really know how much to raise them, or if I really should.. I just want some shoots! And... For the record, I'm a nursing student. As much as I love photography, I know myself enough to know that I'm NOT a salesperson. How much percentage profit is it ok to make once you pay the printers and website commission? I'd like some opinions from more prof. photographers if you care to give one. Here's the pricing on my site: http://www.yourportraitsbydesign.com/Pricing.html Thanks in advance for any responses! more

Resolved Question: How to stay legal as a photographer?

I plan to start a magazine with girls in bikini's or less. The niche of the magazine will be the fact that that day of the shoot is their 18th birthday, with proof. The profile pic would be of the girl holding her I.D. (with last name and address blacked out) and that day's paper. I plan to pay 1000 for a days shoot for bikini and more for less. My question is, how do I advertise and recruit for this as the girls would be minors before the day of the shoot? Please serious answers. There may be nudity and provocative poses. Girls choice more

Resolved Question: Photographers, does this sound good?

I've been going around looking for volunteer look. I sent this message out to a local photographer and I'm currently waiting on her feedback. If she turns me down, I was thinking about sending the same message to the other photographers in my area via their websites. Here is the message I want to advertise with::: ""Hello, my name is Aleah Rose. I was wondering if it were possible for me to assist you. I dream of becoming a professional make-up artist, and I was hoping if I could volunteer at your studio to give free make-overs on your clients for experience purposes. Like I mentioned, I'm willing to volunteer absolutely for free. I'm also willing to work long hours, seven days a week if needed. By providing you my services, you can choose to spice up your photographs with dramatic, vibrant, theatrical, or even subtle make-up looks. Please keep in mind how great your portfolio or gallery would look. My services could offer you a whole new range of advertising as well, since the idea of a free make-over or make-up consultation would pipe interest among your clients. I also try to work with senior clients as I know ways to reduce fine lines in photographs. If interested, please email me back. I can't wait to hear from you. Sincerely, Aleah Rose" Does that sound okay? Would you be interested in my services judging by that statement? Why or why not? more

Resolved Question: Why do women do photoshoots? insecure? show off? etc?

like why do they pay professional photographers to take pictures of them to post on facebook or online or to look at? like for example I know this girl that spends alot of money on pictures for modeling taken by no-name photographers, I own 11 different cameras and most of them are better than the ones this guy has, why doesnt she let me take them? btw, Im 18 shes 21, and Im guessing her photographers are 30s or something. She doesnt use professional photographers or anything just local ones that advertise on model mayhem, no-name ones. more

Resolved Question: What should i do with my life?

This will be long but bare with me please! Well first thing's first, I'm 15 years old, and i dropped out of school in 7th grade and haven't done anything since. Big mistake, in about 10 months when i turn 16 i will be going to a community college to study for my G.E.D. But before that, i've got to get my license, so i can get there. I then have to get a job to help with tuition and keep gas in the car, and to help my family, because right now were in bad shape. I then have to decide what i want to do with my life, so i can take classes and find colleges/schools to go to to major in my profession, while i get my G.E.D of course. Long story short, i have all of these things that i am told i am good at or could have a career in, all of which i love The one i favor in particular is singing. I love it, i know it's unrealistic, and is one of the hardest careers i have to choose from, to get involved in. So, i'm kind of ruling that out, even though i know that will always be what i'll love the most. I love art / drawing. It is a great outlet for me, and i know it isn't that hard to get into with the right tools and enough practice/skill. I could do advertising, be and art teacher, anything. And there are art schools everywhere. I love photography, everywhere i'm going i see a piece of an amazing photo somewhere. I would love to be a photographer, I'm not sure how good i am at taking pictures, i just love too. Which brings me to directing, i love making short videos and what not. I also love to write. Author wise, that is. I have creative ideas that i think most people can relate too. And fantasy of course. I love designing things, interior or fashion, i've done this for parties and am told it looked good. I also ADORE cosmetology. as in makeup hair and nails. That is the second hardest profession for me to get into, yet the second best thing i love to do. I would love to go to new york and what not, and do makeup for major movie stars and things like that. I love working with people, i can't sit still for long, i'm very energetic and creative, i'm also very shy, but i get over it quickly. And i want to be on the go everyday, in a big city, and have a job i would love doing. Something major or glamorous if you will. I know everyone does, but i think i could make this work with the right decisions. Thank you all so much! Also, if you have any tips on these professions or how to get into them, it'd be very much appreciated! more

Resolved Question: Freshman girl. looking for the correct path to lead me to the career i want. OPINIONS PLEASE!?

Well. I'm starting my freshman year in high school. Although a lot of people think it's too early to start thinking about your future career, I think otherwise. If I want to pursue my dream job I have to start thinking of the classes I need to take. Right? Well I have a few interests, but I wanted to know if there are any other jobs in these categories: SPORTS: (no, i do not mean a professional player) *sports photographer *sports team website designer *broadcasting jobs (other than fan-cam) *sports journalist FASHION: *becoming a teacher at a cosmetology school *fashion journalism *fashion media (advertising) These are a few jobs I can think of off the top of my head, but those 2 categories (sports & fashion) are the type of jobs i am looking into. (if i'm working in the sports section i would probably want to work in the hockey franchise) THANK YOU! (: more

Voting Question: Would you be bothered by your wife doing this?

Over the past two years, my wife has gotten into photography. She kinda-sorta has her own "business" and does a pretty good job at what she does. Through her facebook photography page she advertises and posts pictures of her work on it. She informed me last week that on Monday she is "meeting" up with other photographers and models to get to know each other and talk about photography. Then on Wednesday she is meeting with a guy she met on her site that is into photography as well. She said he wants to take pictures of her for his portfolio and she wants modeling pictures. Everything seems innocent but I cannot help but be bothered by my wife meeting up with some a stranger like that. Maybe I am thinking too much into it? We have been married for almost four years and in our 20's. We do not have the perfect marriage, in fact, we have been arguing a lot over the past couple years. Whats your opinion? Am I making something out of it or is this "normal"? more

Resolved Question: How much to charge for use of photos?

An advertising organization has indicated that they would like to use my photos in an ad campaign for one of their biggest clients. Since I am not a professional photographer and have never sold or rented any of my photos to anyone, I don't know what to charge them. The photo images were not digital initially but I had them scanned on CDs recently in low res. It would cost me quite a lot to have them scanned into high resolution. I don't want to lose the copyright on these photos as I always planned to make a book with them. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. more

Voting Question: What's the best way to advertise my photography business?

Hey everyone! I'm a Colorado based professional photographer who mostly shoots weddings and senior class pictures. I was wondering if there's any successful photographers out there who might want to share with me, some of their ideas for "cheaper" advertising. I'm going to make a nice post on craigslist soon and hopefully that drums up some good business but I'm not counting on it. I have a website which helps a little. Any other great ideas that don't cost an arm and a leg? more

Resolved Question: How can I advertise my local photography business?

I'm working for a local photographer who really needs more customers. She hired me to run her website and facebook page, but she's really pushing for me to find out more ways to advertise her website and business. What are some creative, simple, free, or at least cheap ways to get the word around the area about her business? more

Resolved Question: advice to become a pro commercial photographer?

I am 22 year old. Finished my university degree in commercial advertising last year. I've been working under the wing of professional photographer for the past four years, shooting mainly weddings and schools. Learned...training on the job. Right now, I live in Puerto Rico. Low income family. I would like to get formal education in photography to become a pro commercial photographer. I need advice on how can I achieve my goal without getting a big debt in student loans. What are the best universities or schools to get the technical knowledge for commercial photography? Can I reach my goal looking for internship with commercial photographers? Will be very grateful for help, guidance or advice on this matter. more

Resolved Question: What is this movie? It is on one of the Encore channels...?

This may seem a little vague, but it's all the info I have. I saw this preview on one of the Encore channels[Like Wam, Romance, Western, Action, etc.]. It was advertising all of the channels. It showed one guy in a mugshot. He had long, blonde hair. The preview showed him turning his head and lifting his hair out of his face so the mugshot photographer could get a good shot at his profile. I like crime movies and [from the small preview I recieved] this one looked like it might have a possibility of being alright. If anyone knows what movie this scene is from, please let me know. Thanks :) more

Voting Question: I had my photo taken professionally and now they're using it for advertising. Is this legal?

My dad booked a photographer to take my picture when I graduated and apparently that picture is up in their shop window. I hadn't been asked permission and I wasn't aware they were allowed to do this. I'm a professional performer and the use of my image is important to me. I would be fine with them putting the photo in a portfolio file in their studio but putting it in a poster in their window to advertise is different... isn't it?I signed nothing and I don't think my Dad can sign anything on behalf of myself as I'm 21... but I'll ask. more

Resolved Question: How do I get CRB checked?

I am a part time free lance photographer and have done some shoots at my daughters primary school in the past for the school. They have never asked for me to prove that I have been CRB checked - I guess as I was helping out on the PTA and was accompanied by a teacher at all times! Anyway I am thinking of advertising my services to other local schools and would like to know how, and if I need, to get CRB checked. Some time ago I looked into getting staff CRB checked for my full time job and I seem to recall that the only way to do it is to have a request made by an educational establishment. I also recall that the qualification is not transferable from one employer to another and as such all new staff (who come in contact with children) need to be re-checked regardless of when they were last checked... so how does this work if you are, as example, a self-employed photographer? I cant imagine every school would make independent checks. Also does anyone know what the costs are for CRB checking? Any advice gratefully received. more

Resolved Question: Which of these jobs would be easiest to find when I'm going to be a college freshman?

Which if these do you think I would have a high chance of getting, the summer I am done with high school? I uderstand I would probably have to advertise and apply fir all of them, but after that whole process, which is a person most likely to receive a job for? A live in nanny A photographer (just a few gigs here and there, possibly weddings or concerts) Working backstge at modeling shows And, just as a side-note; I'd really like to travel, possibly even live in Europe to attnd a university and work. So if that factors into what jobs... more

Resolved Question: Can I ask this photographer to take down my photos?

I'm currently in the process of suing my photographer. She took my photos for my engagement announcement, and we were charged for this and a partial deposit for the wedding photography as well. After paying her, we just never received the photos. She kept making excuses and saying they were lost in the mail, but then retracting this and saying they hadn't been mailed yet, etc. Lots of lies. We've tried everything to get our pictures but she's basically just a liar and a fraud. Yes, we had a contract. And we've been waiting for our photos almost a year now. We used a different photographer for our wedding, since she proved to not be dependable at all. But anyway - here's my question. She is using our photos as the central point of her portfolio. I feel like this is almost false advertising to display these pictures when this work was never completed or received. I realize there's the whole pictures are the copyright of the photographer, not the subject, but how can she use these to show her professional stature when she's anything but professional? Could I include this as part of my small claims case? more

Resolved Question: what makes my friend so free? is there anything that can help me be more carefree and assertive?

she is freedom personified.. when her boyfriend treated her like crap, she just walked away from the whole thing and even though she was hurt the day she walked away and the next day she had moved on and was having fun.. she does exactly what she wants to do and doesn't even feel self conscious.. She's assertive and has found a job which she likes and it gives her all the freedom she needs, and she needs a lot of freedom.. she's doing this freelance advertising thing.. i'm always careful about what i say and do and feel like i'll be judged and hold myself back a lot.. how do i become free like she is? i do my job because i need a job to make money.. the only thing i really want to do is work as a photographer but i don't know how to go about doing it.. is there any therapy which can make me assertive and live my life to it's fullest like she does? she gives me pep talks all the time about how i should stop thinking and just do it but i worry way too much? more

Voting Question: broken verbal agreements related to rental space between landlord and tenant?

For April and May, I have rented a 20x20 space for $400/month in a very large room (4500 sq ft) to be used as a photo studio. The leaser agreed to let me sublet or rent the large room to other photographers on an hourly or daily basis. The agreement was verbal while awaiting a formal written contract could be created, no problem since the room needed to be finished prior to renting it out anyway. Both parties agreed that the 50/50 split of all monies collected for the rental of the large room would be justified by the leaser contributing the building and all the amenities and I contribute marketing/advertising and bringing the customers in. The room needed paint on the unfinished drywall and the concrete floor needs holes and cracks filled. Leaser keeps backpedaling on their participation, slowly refusing to contribute time or money. One month later, I have paid $600.00 to a painter, 200 in paint and supplies I created the contract but now they don't want to sign. To walk away would be to give them a freshly painted room (4500 sq ft) as well jeopardize my rented space within this large room. Worse than losing the money and time, I really really believed renting this room to other photographers was a goldmine. Proof is, I submitted 3 separate surveys on CraigsList including photos of the room/studio and description of the intent, got over 45 overwhelming YES! responses. I hate to walk away from this unbelievable studio just because a couple of guys can't own up to their promises of finishing the room first or sign in ink what they are so easy to promise in words. Forget the promises of installing WiFi or installing a kitchenette. I can live without that. I just don't have any faith in them anymore and they are really dragging their feet on sighing anything tangible. I have all those responders asking for dates they can come shoot! What do I do?? To start this per diem photography studio where no other exists is a dream. How can I get these two to own up to their promises about splitting the work and costs so we can split the profits?? more

Resolved Question: Does this sound OK for Photography?

I understand that most people go to a professional photographer to get their pictures taken. But I am close to start advertising my business and I don't have a studio, not everyone needs one. But I was wondering If I should do like a membership type? If they like it they can do a membership for 10 dollars, and it could come with discounts or free stuff ( of course that I pay, but for them to come back. ) I notice that some stores do that, but is it weird that a photography place does? Like for example: They'd get the membership cards for $10 ( I might make it a little more considering the items they are getting are ordered on line and custom made by me) With that they could get a free tote with some things inside, it could be with a pen and teeshirt or a tote with a note pad and calender... or a tote just mixed with something, and then every time they come I stamp their card ( it wont be the membership, it'll be like a plane card with my business on it) and IF they decide to come every once in a while, if they come 5 or 10 times they get a discount. Does this sound like too much? Or would you go if you knew your photographer did this? If you were a new customer and you decided to get this membership would you be surprised you received this gift? I just feel like it's a good idea, but I want some reviews or opinions on this. Don't be all mean because I WILL report it, you can be truthful in a nice way. 10 points best answer please! more

Resolved Question: QUESTION FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS!! *PHOTO SHOOT ENQUIRY*?

I have been asked to 'name my price' for an on location photo shoot and I don't have a clue what to ask. So how much do you charge for a photo shoot? It would include editing also/copyright etc etc etc. I only have a Nikon D40 but I have taken free photo's for my boyfriends band and some have been published, and many used for advertising so yeah, just not sure on how much to ask for. Thanks. (points will be awarded)Well it's for a friend of a friend's band. The location will be a local castle which is not far from my house so no travel would be involved. They want the photo's for marketing, facebook/myspace etc. promo material as such. I never charged my boyfriends band but I let them use the photo's as much as they want, as long as my name in the corner is still on i'm not fussed. I do not have any qualifications and I haven't got such a great camera, and I only have a standard kit lens, BUT I do get some good results! see www.myspace.com/triphazardmusic or search TRIPHAZARD on facebook to check some of my work out! more

Resolved Question: OK, I need a commercial photography job or internship and some advice!?

OK so here is the deal: I need help trying to find some sort of job or internship related to commercial photography. More specifically product photography, advertising, marketing, digital photography, web site photography etc. I have 3 years experience. I worked with an event photographer doing retouching and for about 2 1/2 years I did web site photography for a wholesale handbag company. And recently I have been working with another wholesale company that works with apparel, but instead of working right there at their facility, I am doing it as a freelance type of job. I'm majoring in marketing right now, but I'm not sure that I'm being specific enough with the types of courses I'm taking. Essentially, I want to continue doing free lance, but I'm not sure how to start it, or continue for that matter. I'm not too sure where to look or start looking. I would continue doing photography for the wholesalers in my area, but honestly, they don't like to pay past a certain amount, but they want expressive quality since they usually need images for their web sites. If anyone knows any sites where i can search for some jobs, internships, or agents related to this topic please let me know. Also, if there are specific careers that i can narrow my major to, that would be much appreciated as well! Thanks for reading, and for any and all answers! more

Resolved Question: Questions for other photographers about business?

Hiya! I'm an professional photographer from the East Coast/New England. I advertise in local papers, magazines, and online posting sites with not only text, but with pictures as well. I pay to have my business cards designed by a graphic designer and to have them printed professionally from a place called Moo. I also have my website done professionally by a graphic designer. I do weddings, portraiture, event, babies, pets, etc. but because of the economy business seems really slow. I'm getting really tired of not having work to do. I've tried lowering my prices and offering coupons, etc. What else can you reccomend I do? more

Resolved Question: How much should I charge for edited prints for a family photo shoot?

I am used to charging per photoshoot and prints at cost but the economy has forced me to change my advertising tactics and I am now offering free shoots, pay per print. I also edit each photo. I plan on taking 300-500 photos , picking the best and editing them and presenting all edited portraits to the couple to choose from. Question is, how much should I charge per edited 4x6, 5x7, 8x10 etc to make good money but also keep is affordable for the buyer? Nevermind the quality etc..I just want something to go on, a price sheet. Let's pretend the best professional photographer is doing this. If you're a photographer, what kind of packages do you offer and how much do you charge for al la carte items? Thanks in advance for ideas and answers. Thanks for any help. more

Resolved Question: A little help with my final choices????? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE : )?

FIRST off......I'd hire someone to create and then teach me how to maintain a website, but unfortunately as a photog right now, I don't have the $ to pay a pro to do so and I would never insult anyone buy asking for a cheap price as I know how it feels when people think photogs can do work for next to nothing. NEXT- I have posted a few times.....narrowed things down slightly and here is where I am at! I am a professional photographer that needs to desperately update my site. Now before I had a professional create and maintain my site, but I had to rely on him to update my stuff, etc. I'd LOVE to be able to maintain my site and update it myself so I can do it when I need to without relying on anyone. My hosting is about to run up and so far I have gotten a lot of people that say " go with GoDaddy." So here's my first question...... 1- Is godaddy a good option for price and being reliable? 2- Second out of these choices...... -BluDomain (not for hosting JUST for the template). - Zenfolio. - PhotoBiz which one would you choose? Does anyone have any firsthand experience? Also, if I just buy a BluDomain template am I done with them and I can take it to whatever hosting I please? Bc I heard their cust. serv. blows and I don't have time to deal with a game of phone tag. I am just looking for something with a bit of flexibility to change my site, decent price, good customer service, where I am make the site all mine without a bunch of advertising for the company I go with tattooing my page....so far the feel I get is that PhotoBiz allows more of what I am looking for. Any help would be great!!!!!!!! more

Voting Question: If I want to sell prints of my art on line how do I manage doing so?

Do I have to have a business name? Would it be an LLC company? Do I have to copyright all my art work or trade mark or what ever so no one copies it? What is the best website to sell from or in other words how do I advertise it on line? How should I know what to charge for pieces of art? Should I sell originals or prints? Does anyone you know or you yourself make any money doing this? I am 18 and I do mostly black and white portraits but I think I might do other art as well. I draw from pictures so I do not know if I could get in trouble for copying other photographers art or what. more

Resolved Question: What made 80s photography so cool?

Hello fellow photographers, I am obsessed with the photographic look in the 80s, from photography to movies, mostly movies. The way the grain looked in advertising in magazines. How John Hughes films and other greats looked with .. uhh I can't describe it. There were just these wonderful cold backgrounds with saturated colors accenting them. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone here was working at that time as a photographer and could tell me if certain types of films or processing was used on purpose for that style, or was it just the technology available at the time. What types of cameras, ISO of films, and printing. If you don't know, what do you think is the best way to find this stuff out? Should I contact cinematographers? Kodak? Magazines? Thanks! Rob more

Resolved Question: New photographer looking for experience...?

I am a newly practicing photographer in my area, and I want to get some clients. I am not exactly "profession" level yet, but would like to do small things like, children, and families, and engagements. How would you advertise yourself to get some business. Keep in mind I want my overhead expenses to be minimal.Well for those of you people who prefer to be insulting to others, I have shot an engagement and I have done many children, and have had wonderful results. My only problems with my shots are minimizing the depth of field. I have not understood how to set the camera settings any different than when I have used my camera on its automatic settings. So, with that being said I would appreciate it if you would not criticize what you do not know about me and my skill. I do not have to have fancy equipment in order to be a photographer. Photography is an expression of art, and capturing moments on film-- Everyone has a different style. For those of you who have answered my question with honesty, and helpful comments I thank you very much. I am not looking to be a professional tomorrow, but I want to get some volunteers to help me learn more about photography-- Trust me I am aware that I am not ready to become a "pro". more

Resolved Question: Is this a good way to set up my own photography business realistically?

Right well here is my situation.. I'm 17, in my first year of sixth form studying English Language, Sociology and Fine Art. I'm expected to get B's at the end of the year. As much as i like school and the subjects i do, there isn't anything i want to do at University. My hobby is photography, i just have a normal digital camera. No knowledge of light, lenses, composition or anything like that. But i still want to be a photographer, as in Weddings, family photos, model portfolios, landscapes e.t.c. I've seen photography courses at various University's, but non of them are what i want. So, here is my proposal, and i want you guys to tell me if its realistic. 1.For my 18th Birthday (in September) my parents are willing to buy me a professional camera, then get some practise with that. 2. Finish my A Levels in July 2011, and have good grades to fall back on. 3. During that summer, get a job (as in a shop assistant or something) to get money. At the same time go to a photography course to gain knowledge and skills. 4. After the course start doing one off jobs for people (Cheap but enough to make a bit of profit), and advertise myself in shop windows/the internet/newspaper e.t.c. 5. Hopefully my business will grow and grow into something professional. Is this realistic/a good idea? I don't mind the truth :) more
