Open Question: Talking to/ "Reading" Dogs... how many of you can?

Yes, I know what you're thinking... Dogs can't talk, you're an idiot. I know they can't converse with us verbally, but they have other ways of communicating and expressing themselves. As a dog trainer I believe myself to have the ability to "read" what a dog is trying to say. For example: Today while I was working at my part time job, a woman known for training service dog pups came in with one of her most recent black lab pups. She's a very cross and bitter sort of person, and I usually try to avoid her (those of you who have ever worked in retail know what I mean). However, I was the only one available at the moment. I asked her if she needed help, and she refused to make eye contact as she grumbled a no. The pup, I noticed was doing what he was supposed to be doing, standing by her side patiently waiting for her next command. I took my leave to let her shop, but wasn't very far off. While standing at the counter I noticed how lifeless the puppy's eyes were. He looked sad and defeated, head hung and body sagging. I felt bad for this little guy, and finally our eyes met. It was if I was reading a book when I looked at the expression on his face. It was as if he was saying "She doesn't listen to me/ She just doesn't understand". It broke my heart. My co-worker came back from lunch and engaged her, asking how the dog was doing in his training. This was the confirmation I needed that told me I was 100% right. She said "This dog is stupid and slow. He's not doing sh*t. I can't wait to get rid of him." I was floored. I was then forced to watch her "work"the pup as she maneuvered the store, and all I could do is stand there and bite my tongue as I watched that brave puppy endure her harsh and angry commands as best his little self could manage. I don't consider myself a "dog whisperer" or anything, but I've worked with them long enough that I've become familiar with their facial expressions and body language enough to know what they're trying to tell me. I am a firm believer that if a puppy or dog (aside from aggression rehabilitation or other behavior problems like this) doesn't enjoy the training, you're doing something wrong. Do any of you have similar experiences you'd like to share? Do you know what I'm saying when I say I feel like I can "read" what a dog is saying? Do you feel that you have that same level of connection with your dogs? I'm just curious. Today's event is what spurred this question. There are soo many dog owners out there who don't know their own dogs, but I want to hear from those of you that do. more

Open Question: help on word problems i suck at these?

I just need to know how to set these up. A contractor built 105 homes last year, some economy models and some deluxe models. The number of economy models was 3/2 the number of deluxe models. Find the number of each type of home that was built. Jane Anderson purchased a run-down, empty commercial building and plans to fix it up. The building can be used for both retail stores and office space. She thinks she can get a total annual rent of $135,000 with 3 1/2 times as much rent coming from the retail stores as from office space. Find the rent she expects from the office space and also the rent she expects from the retail stores. Excluding managers, there are 22 full-time employees working at a large Harley-Davidson shop. New employees earn $9.50 an hour, while more experienced workers average $12.90 an hour. The company spends $273.60 an hour in wages, not counting benefits. Find the number of each type of non-management worker. Profits on Nissan Altimas and Sentras average $1200 and $850, respectively, at one dealership. The total profit in a month in which they sold 120 of these models was $130,350. Find the number of each sold. more

Resolved Question: Do you think corporate culture contributes to or is reflective of lack of manners in our society?

This is probably seems like an odd question. I'll clarify. When I was younger I had a variety of customer service jobs. In a customer service profession you deal with some very rude people. Some of them have legitimate complaints, obviously, and some are trying to get free things from the company or simply expect a higher level of service than they deserve for the product or service they have selected. What I mean by that is that Domino's isn't going to serve you a gourmet pizza and if you want the red carpet rolled out before you constantly you best not shop at Wal-Mart or bank with a National MegaBank. The MegaBank could care less about you and neither does Wal-mart, but they do have a lot of problem customers who are extremely high maintenance. These customers are expensive to the company because they have create significant staff to babysit them. I still don't know why retail stores don't more often 86 certain customers or banks forcibly close certain customer's account that complain too much or take up too much customer service resources. After all, who's paying for that? Yep, you guessed it. But, these businesses in effort to smash their competition to cater to these childish adults, and it breeds an enormous sense of entitlement. Thus, a vicious cycle is created where people keep demanding to get services and products they don't deserve. This is so pervasive that is seems to spread all around society. It seems to affect how individuals treat each other. Most of us are beholden to the Corporate America to make a living. Their culture infiltrates our lives. What could be an alternative explanation?mcq - that analysis is flawed and incomplete. If 2% customers take up 50% of the customer service resources, it needs to be assessed how much that 2% spends and how much it cost to staff 50% of the customer service staff. If that number is greater than the cost to staff, they ought to be 86'ed from the store. It will save money and force a liability upon the competition. more

Resolved Question: Are there disadvantages to a wholesaler also being a retailer?

I'm starting a new business importing a home decor/gift product. I would like to initially sell it wholesale to gift shops and other retail stores, but I would also like to be able to sell it direct to the consumer via the internet... Are the downfalls to this? Would my retail customers not like the competition of having the goods sold to consumers via my website?Yes I know what a wholesaler does and yes I know how goods travel down the supply chain. But a wholesaler can also sell goods as a retailer as well. He is his own supplier, therefore keeping more of the profit. I just didn't know if how other retailers would look on this. more

Resolved Question: Do you ever put the shopping cart in those cart holders in the parking lot?

Or do you leave them stranded? As a person who works in retail, I'd rather the people leave the carts far away b/c that means I get to stay outside of the store longer gathering them. Plus I take my time doing it. It's sort of a break in my opinion. more

Open Question: Am I the only one that finds parents shopping late at night (past 9pm) with kids irritating/selfish?

I work in a 24 hour retail establishment as an overnight dairy stocker five nights a week from 10pm-7am. Every single (and I mean EVERY) night there are parents with young kids under 12 shopping. I even spot preteens/teens in groups with no parents in sight yelling and causing ruckus. Do they even have a curfew? This isn't just weekends and summer, it's all year round. This usually goes on until 3 or 4am. Most of these kids are obviously very overtired which in turn makes them cranky. Young kids need a consistent schedule. When they act up in stores, parents yell at them and I can't help but feel sorry for them. One time a child about 4 years old was leaning on the yogurt counter I was stocking and then fell into me and hung onto my leg with her eyes closed. They are just screaming and begging to be in bed. Most of these parents don't even realize this. Are they really that selfish that they only think of themselves and when they want to do things? It's not the kids that irritate me, it's this poor decision made by some parents. I'm not personally a parent but it there something I'm missing with this increasingly rising phenomenon? Maybe the parents out there can help me gain some perspective on this? Thanks. If it helps, probably about 50-75 percent of these families do this on a weekly/bi-weekly basis. Every once in a while is a different thing, stuff happens. more

Open Question: Need help, caught shoplifting at 15 now 18?

Hi, I was caught shoplifting at a super-drug store at the age of 15 (i admit it was stupid and i regret this). The shop security took mine and my friends details, even though it was my first time they decided to contact the police. (banned from the store also), I was arrested with my friend and we were taken to the police station the day after. When there they asked me why i did it, and they interviewed me. I admitted to the offence and said i was sorry, and the intiviewer there dicided to take my mug shot, DNA and details. I was then taken home and after a week i was demanded to pay the fine from the store. I would like to know if this would go against me in a CRB check if i was to apply to a job e.g retail, or if it is considered a criminal record, or if what i was given was a caution. **I was 15 at the time so i just remember it being a traumatic time. Would this be considered a minor because i was under the age of 16? I would also like to add that i did not go to court, and i was not asked to. However i did pay for the fine, for the store. Thank you, hope you can help. (Live in UK)Thanks for the information so far, but i have read in several online fourms that it would come up on a CRB check. ..is this true?. I applied to a retail shop job and will get a CRB check; will this incident come up? more

Resolved Question: Do you dress too much when shopping?

Everytime I go shopping to the my favorite store, I always wear too much with expensive clothes. This is because the people who works in the retail store dresses expensive and better than me. I tend to make an impression because going there is like going to a fashion parade... And I hate it when I go in the change rooms, I have to take off everything. All the clothes I want to try and the one I'm wearing are so damn messy. Btw, the store I'm talking about is General Pants Co. (Australia) Is there really need to dress impressive to go shopping? Do you do that often too?@Pooja S, you fail at life. more

Voting Question: Possible to avoid Misdemeanor in cheap retail theft?

I have a little brother who was recently caught shop lifting, he only stole like $9 worth of stuff and none of it was damaged at all and it was all returned. The policeman at the store cited him and told him that he is going to receive court orders or w/e in the mail in a couple weeks. Is there any way he could avoid getting a misdemeanor in this situation and maybe do some community service or something to keep his record of 1 misdemeanor class A for vandalism and a truancy ticket from getting any larger? He only 17 years old. He is also wanting to join the army once he turns 18, will his record pose any problem? more

Resolved Question: Why do the majority of cops act like cops even when they are off duty, and hence not getting paid?

I know when I'm off work I couldn't care less about my responsibilities there until i'm back the next day, and I've been in retail shops and heard their sales staff blatenty lie to customers about our policies and it's none of my business until that customer calls at workme a month later to find out he was lied to in the store. So why do cops put their lives at risk when they are off work and try to foil bank robberies etc when they could just take it easy and look the other way? more

Voting Question: What all is involved for applying for a job?

Ok, so I have a very part time job -- I do some work for my school's coffee shop, but it wasn't like applying for a "real" job... so my question is, how should I go about getting a job elsewhere (I need more hours). I'm 17, a senior in high school, and really need a job. Where I'm working at currently is a student run coffee shop, we work the cash register, make coffee drinks, and interact with customers, so I feel that that is all a plus when it comes to getting anything in retail... Fact is, I don't really know where to begin looking / what to do? I mean, I have an idea, go to some stores I'm interested in, get their job applications, turn it back in with a resume / recommendation letters (right?) then wait and see... Am I missing something? Also, with the resume, what all should I put on it? School achievements? Work experience? Internship experience? References? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: I feel like I have no friends, what can I do? Please Help!?

I know this is kind of long but please read it and help me out I would greatly appreciate it!! =) I have never been the MOST popular kid around but when I was in HS I had my group of friends we would all hang out go to each others houses, go to the movies, shopping, and I was able to confide in them when I had problems in my life. I also worked at a retail store with a lot people some that went to my school so I had a fair amount of friends. After HS one of my best friends moved away for college. Alot of my other friends got BFs, moved out of their own, my BESTEST FRIEND ever was going through some problems in her life so she pulled away from everyone including ME! I'm not an anti social person, im pretty talkative and outgoing. Not to many people work at my job but I have tried to make new friends at school or at parties etc. And I do! I've met people at school and we will hang out a few times or I have met people at parties and we will hang out a few times but that is it!! Usually it is me who has to end up calling them or reminding them that I am to hang out. I do not have someone that I can consider a Best Friend. Someone I can go to for anything, anytime. Everyone I meet either has a boyfriend that takes up 90% of their time or they already have a clique established. Im a good person and I am a good friend but no one seems to give me the opportunity be in their life and get close to them. I feel like a loner because at the end of the day it does not matter who I hang out with I go back home and I am alone. And everyone is to involved and busy in their life to make time for me.. its very depressing.. :( And i am still am friends with my girls from HS I love them to death but again they are all with their boyfriends and I don't like to tag along with them and be a third wheel. Idk what to do? I feel like I don't even want to try and meet new people and I dont want to be social anyone. I'm starting to become more to myself because I feel like it does not matter who I meet it will always be the same. .. any ideas? suggestions? please? and thanks in advance :)! more

By the way it has 12 L's, I've been using it for about 5 years already lol! I will definitely make a new one just in case... I landed a job interview with Buckle clothing company though. more

Resolved Question: What stores/business would hire a 17 year old? with no experience?

i live in New York (the state, not the city) but i live in the city of middletown (orange county). so theres tons of places around here to work at, tons of options. like september 11th i'm getting a physical, and working papers (from the drs office) and my birthday is september 23rd, and then i'll be 17. i wanna get a job, thats preferably close, because my moms gonna have to drive me. so as long as i work after 4pm, i should be good. i'd like to get something in my field. i'm a cosmetology student (2nd year, it take 2 years to graduate) and last year 2 16 year olds in my class got salon jobs. one was a receptionist, and the other was a shampoo girl. if i get a job at a salon, by the time i get my cosmetology license, id be making more than someone just starting out, cuz i would have been there a year. i wouldnt mind working in retail either. just not at the mall, cuz EVERYONE from school (and other schools) shop there (i live 4 minutes away from the mall) thank you :) more

Resolved Question: HELP! I HAVE AN INTERVIEW FOR LEVI'S BUT I DONT UNDERSTAND...P.S I DONT KNOW WHY ITS IN THIS CATEGORY ¬___¬?

Ok, So I phoned the store and asked if they were hiring on a Monday, the manager said to go down with my CV on Thursday and he will have a little chat to me and if he liked me he would call me in for an interview. So I went down yesterday (Thursday), and one of the staff members on the shop floor told me they were no longer hiring, I just made my Mum drive me half hour so I could hand in my CV and she wasn't happy, so made me go back in and speak to the manager, once he came out she explained, and when I spoke to him he seemed to like me and asked me to go out back (To his office thing) We just chatted about the hours I could do, It was nothing like a proper interview, and he said he wanted me to come down next Tuesday from 3-5 to see if I like working in the store, pick out my favourite jeans, and if I enjoy it they will put me on the Rota... Now im confused, surely I need a proper interview he didn't even read my CV apart from my recent retail experience, so do you think I will be having an interview on Tuesday? What shall I wear? Do I already have the job? I'm confused!! P.s Sorry for the Essay LOL!!P.s a CV is a Resume... Its short for curriculum vitae... more

So I've been applying loads, like at least one job or more a week for the past 3 months, and got 3 interviews out of it. The first was for Evans, second Warehouse and third Kookai. The Evans one I clearly didn't get as it was weeks ago, I thought the interview went okay, but I've recently found out they only employ erm "larger sized ladies" seen as its an outsize clothes shop. Which I think is a bit discriminating to be fair but whatever! So I just dismissed that one. The second one was a telephone interview for Warehouse. Again I tried hard with the interview, I'd done my research and thought I'd done well. 2 weeks later no sign. Sooo I'm taking it I didn't get that one either. Which leads me to think I'm doing something wrong as obviously they couldnt see what I look like. The third one was yesterday, and AGAIN I thought I'd done well but I've just decided I won't have got it. I know theres time yet, but I dont know! Argh. So my question is would you be put off by this? And try and change your interview tactics? I'm pretty much doing EVERYTHING I can. Trying hard with my appearance, researching the background of the store, eye contact, smiling, answering questions and not rambling, showing my knowledge of fashion, giving good examples of customer service............... Just tips, any tips PLEEEASEEEEE!!!!I don't want this as a career. I'm a student in college, so it's just a part time job before University. more

Resolved Question: Should Christians boycott clothing stores over sales of mixed fiber clothing?

In recent years Christians have been successful in sponsoring laws and state constitution planks based on the book of Leviticus, for example to outlaw equal rights for gay people. Should Christians build on this success by taking action in the marketplace in an effort to force clothing stores to stop selling mixed-fiber clothing? They are currently flaunting price rollbacks at a certain discount chain on cotton/polyester slacks in total disregard of Traditional Family Values™. Mixed fibers are an abomination unto Him. Do you support extending the influence of Leviticus in our laws to large retail chains? Do you shop according to the Holy Bible? Would you support Proposition 100% Cotton? more

Voting Question: Sick call for virgin islands?

We live in the virgin islands and I am not sure what the laws are here. We have retail shops and we have no signed contracts with any of our employees. Business has been very slow lately so we have only 2 employees per shop. It is summer time which is even more slow so one employee has left for vacation and the store is run by the other employee. Last week the lady who was to open the store never showed up. The store was supposed to be open by 9 am. At about 12:30 in the afternoon her son called to say that his mom had a headache. Now it has been a week and we have not been contacted yet. What I want to know is that can we fire her on this basis that we were left clueless as when she was coming back? more

Resolved Question: When do retail stores normally have their BEST sales...?

I'm a guy (19) and I HATE shopping but I don't mind doing it if the sales are good. The thing is, the "sales" are normally never very substantial enough for me to want to spend money to get anything anyway (I pay for whatever I get, my parents expect me to). So I'm wondering if there's a certain time frame during the summer where retail stores have the best sales? The places I normally walk into include: PacSun Vans Macy's H&M Urban Outfitters Levi's Thanks more

Resolved Question: Is this a good statement to write on an application form?

Hi I am filling in a Matalan application form and it says "In support of your application, please detail any relevant skills, qualities which you believe are relevant to the position you are applying within Matalan." All I can think of: "I am currently working at Primark. With this company I have learned to deal with different types of customers and am fully trained as a cashier at the cash registers within the store. I also have the experience in working as a team for example at the cash registers when staff are very busy and I have nothing to do, I sometimes help pack customers' shopping for them. Another example is because the store is constantly busy and the store is no longer in a presentable way, I would make the store look more attractive by returning the stock that doesn't belong at that department for example as part of childrenswear at womenswear, then I would need to return it to the fitting room. I am an enthusiastic hard working individual. I have the ability to work under pressure as I work at a fast paced fashion retail environment and have the thrive to learn new skills to self develop. I have a good attendance and punctuality record as I have almost never been late or absent in my working life and at college." Is this alright, or have I been thinking too much for just one application? more

Resolved Question: strange couple approaches us in store asking personal information?

My husband and I were shopping in a retail store and a strange couple approached us and started being overly friendly. I was approached by the wife and my husband was approached by her husband. Both started acting interested in what we were shopping for and then starting asking if we lived near by and where we worked. They seemed like innocent questions but later on, we felt as though they wanted something. THey asked for my husbands phone number and not thinking, he gave it to the guy and then he said "what was your last name again" and again, we just didn't think it was a big deal. After we got home and I told my sister about this experience she said that I should worry that this couple is after something. Should I worry about identity theft or that they can now look up our home address with our first and last name? Has this happened to anyone? At the time, they seems so nice but looking back, it was very strange. more

Resolved Question: Places in Denver, Colorado that hire at age 16?

I'm turning 16 soon and the first order of business is pretty much going to be looking for a job. I'm not expecting anything great, I would expect the wages to be low, not a very glamorous job for a first job, but I'll take anything for experience so hopefully I can get a better job later! My only no no is fast food. Don't ask, don't tell me I'm ridiculous, plenty of teenagers don't work in fast food. This excludes cafes, bakeries, but anything with grease and a lot of fat and oils I can't do for health reasons. Anyways, you don't need to give specific places, maybe some if you know of them, but ideas are good. I was thinking cafes, like Seattle's Best, Dazbog, Starbucks, maybe even Caribou. Maybe floral shops, dry cleaners, ice cream places (but most of them aren't hiring at the moment). Any retail stores (not hot topic) that hire at age 16? Restaurants? I don't know if I would be the best waitress though. I'm not very strong. Anyone know anything about waitressing? So yeah just a question. I would like to get a job, I'm thinking of being able to work about 15-20 hours a week during school. Thanks for the help in advance! more

Voting Question: Could you please give me some advise on handling a certain part of my cashier job?

Hello. I have been doing cashier jobs to help pay for my college-related expenses and have been doing cashier jobs both in the beverage & food industry as well as the retail industry. I try my best to provide the best customer customer service, regardless of how they treat me. I recently started working at this grocery store a few blocks away from my school. And I see my fare share of interesting people. One time I even say a gay couple come up. and they were holding each other just like any other heterosexual couple. I did not say anything as I was working and I don't care who comes down my cashier isle as long as they pay. However, one day, this one person, who i originally thought was a lady, came down with her cart and groceries. I thought this person was a lady until he spoke and asked to pay one portion of his groceries with cash and the rest with debit card. When he gave me his debit card I asked to see some identification as the name on the debit was clearly a man's name. I asked him, "Sir, are you the person whose name is on this debit card? I need to see some identification." Once I started my job at this store, the general manager told me that they have had issues with identity theft with credit/debit cards. He snatched the debit card back out of my hand and in a huff paid the rest with cash. What got me really annoyed was after he was done paying and I handed him his receipts, I said, "Thank you for shopping and hope you have a nice day, sir," as we are instructed to say when we hand back the receipts. After I said that, he took his groceries out of the cart after I placed them back in the cart and left in a huff and did not even care to place the cart back in the cart return area. What did I do to upset him? more

Voting Question: How to land your first job!? Help?

I am 17 years old and a senior in high school. I am looking for my first 'real' job, and today I sent in an online application to Juicy Couture. I would LOVE to work there, more then anything. I don't have any experience in retail, but today I was shopping at buckle, and I told a store clerk about how I want to work at juicy. She told me that one of her best friends is the manager there, and how they need someone to work in the back room. I do have experience in stocking items, so I thought I was a little qualified. How do you think I could land this job? I am thinking tomorrow I will call them and ask if the manager will be in today, and if she is I will go in and personally introduce myself and hand her my application and resume. What else should I say?? I am so new at this stuff does anybody have any tips!!? more

Resolved Question: What retail store is cheap and sells quality brand name?

So, where can I go esp. in Atlanta?? more

Resolved Question: Is opening an online lingerie boutique a good idea?

I have a desire to open an upscale/ quality undergarment boutique. I would love to open a retail store; however, due to lack of capital, that would be difficult. An alternative is an online boutique. Do many people shop online for lingerie? Does this seem like a profitable idea? more

Resolved Question: Second-hand posters?? :)?

Resolved Question: what would you call me..vegetarian or vegan?

I'm going to bullet because i don't feel like writing a run on sentence. - I don't eat animals, including fish. basically anything with eyes. - I do not horseback ride, fish, go to zoo's, or circus's - I encourage people to try the veggie diet - people come to me for advise about cooking vegan ( i'm an awesome cook, vegan that is) - Ive been doing this for two years - I recycle -and reuse - then donate - I do not wear silk - my dark secret is i never gave away my wool sweaters - but i did give away those ugly UGGS - when i need clothes or shoes from a retail store i get the fake leather, always. - when i go into second hand / vintage shops and if i see something that i Absolutely stylish that i love, and may be leather, i buy it - only own about 4 leather things * my theory is i dont buy new leather goods because that increases the demand for animal slaughter. when you buy second hand, its like re-using other peoples shit. i would rather shop second hand that new because i love how stylish everything is, and i love it. If i love something, regardless shouldn't i buy it? this is what confuses me, my "label". in this society labels are everything. its how people categorize you. even if you think this is bull ox, it's true.in the end it doesn't matter what my label is because i am me, and this is what i do. I am _____, that doesn't consume any animals of any form, i love the world and i want to patch it up with band aids, i like helping people, i love second hand shopping, i love traveling, and i love vegan cooking, when i'm older i want to be a "vegan" chef. i'm nothing but curious to know my label you people put upon me. (you don't have to read this if you don't want to, its not really part of the question) People can put labels on me and call me a hypocrite, or even a vegan. but who knows those people calling me a fake probably have snuck some bits of cheese once in a while, they could eb the fake ones.. more

Resolved Question: My girl is having trouble with a coworker...?

Well my girl has this b*tch of a coworker. See, the coworker has been an employee of the store for much longer than my gf. However, she was on sick leave or something when my gf was hired a few months ago, so my gf was there for a couple months before she ever met this veteran employee. Now the trouble is that they have the exact same position. They're both keyholders, they open and close the store. I think that's a decent position in retail clothing shops. My girl has trouble with this b*tch bossing her around, but it's not just her. She bosses everybody around, even though there are people who have been there longer than she has. She's very greedy with big transactions so her sales ratings are higher than everyone else's, and she keeps taking the big sales even if she can afford letting someone else take them. My girl finally had one big sale today which would have made her ratings today, but unfortunately (I know this is partially my girl's fault) she didn't check to see if this b*tch had logged out of the register, so the entire sale when under the coworker's name. When my girl told her it was an accident, the b*tch laughed and said, "Thanks for numbers!" (Numbers = Ratings) My girl ended up not making her goal, neither did anybody else working there except for this stupid b*tch, who ended up well over her goal. She's rude, bossy, and she talks down to people of equal position. She treated my girl like a child by posting a sticker on her when she did something good, but she did it in a very insulting and demeaning manner. My girl can't afford to lose this job, and until she finds another, she's stuck there. Does anybody have any advice I can pass on to my girl? She works at a place called Motherhood Maternity. It's a place where women shop for pregnancy clothes basically. Guys don't really go. And she's rated by Units per Transaction, and the average dollar amount per sale. Having a ton of little sales doesn't help, it just brings her average rating down. more

Resolved Question: Do some adults require babysitters?

I've done lots of jobs. When I was a teenager I was a cashier and worked a pizza shop. At the grocery store, the same people would come every day to buy their items in small amounts. At the pizza shop, people would walk in, order, and drive away. In other words, they had a car. They had phones. They just had to have their order taken by another person. In college I was a teller. The same people would show up every day to pay a bill, cash a $30 check, etc., i.e., things they could either do on line, or if they didn't have a computer, the phone, and they elected not to get enough money to last them through the week or month. Then I worked in mortgage loan orginations and processing and underwriting. The same people would call me every single day about the status of their loan. I'd tell them what it was. I'd give them a timeline. I'd tell them I'd promptly call them if any further information was required from them. Now I work in the operational side of banking, and the same people from retail or Commercial will call every day, with a silly question about how to do something or complaining about something that is was their responsibility to correct. In other words, my job is to make sure help the institutions become compliant with federal and state regulations, not do it for them. At first I thought this phenomena was due to my working in a customer service environment where you deal with the lowest common denominator on a daily basis. Then, as I moved away into operations and underwriting I found that that basest element was mitigated, the idiots remain. So, do some adults just need a full time babysitter? Should I bring suckers and pacifiers with me to work? more
