Open Question: How to hand in C.V's in shops and who to?
I am on the job seekers allowance and would ideally like to find a job. With regards to handing in my C.V, should I ask to see the manager or someone in higher positions in the shop as I prefer the idea of handing it in in person. Also with regards to online C.V's, can it appears I can only send my C.V in if there is a job opening, is there another way to send it online. I am applying all consumer electronic stores in the nearby towns (places such as PC world) and have some good qualifications and strong knowledge of many products. I have thought about a week on a good and simple science project and have finally come to a conclusion to make a hydraulic robotic arm using medical syringes and tubes. Just for a reference it will look something like this with some additions (The link below).

I have got the design on paper which is different from the one in the video but the concept is still the same. Now i have a few questions regarding this project, i'd be glad if you can answer them.
First one:
Is it possible to make this project electronic like using a motor with a two way control switch. If so then how? (Because manual looks a bit too simple making it electronic will really make it a robotic arm!!).
Second one:
I have the design on paper but the problem is to make such a frame. I could probably get it made out of plywood sheets but it would be better in plastics as it would be light. In the video he has used a kit to make the arm. The frame was ready made but i am making it myself. Using wood would increase the friction at the joints so any ideas to make it smooth and neat with either wood or plastic.
Third one:
Would it be nice to make it a little heavier using a small hand pump instead of syringes. Surely it wont be transparent and would not be so illustrative to explain hydraulics but it will surely be big!?
Fourth one:
Another problem is making smooth joints. What can i use to make a smooth pivot joint?
I am facing these problems because i am not in US so i cannot just buy some of the stuff online, instead i have to search lots of shops to find something near to what i want. it is really difficult to find stuff for science projects here.

Ok, so this is one for all you audio techies out there,
I have a guitar amplifier, a Crate VTX 2x12 120w Solid State Combo to be exact, and it needs a new transformer (please save the robot jokes people, I've heard em' all). The problem is, is that there is no product # on it, no voltage indication, nothing. It's essentially just a blank, black cube that is about 1.5" on all sides. It also has a rounded, red-taped section on one side, and another with about 5-6 colored wires coming out. It's mounted into the amp by 4 long screws that go through the depth of the transformer. I've looked pretty much everywhere; called local shops, electronic stores, went to guitar center, etc. I believed my next best bet was to search online, and found a few sites that offer audio transformers. However, I have no idea what one I'm looking for and don't want to end up with the wrong thing. So if there's anyone out there that has a good knowledge on stuff like this, and can help me locate a new transformer based on my description, by all means please help me out. Thanks everyone.

I played drums when I was 14, bought a cheap set and played for 6 years... wasn't very good but I loved it. Never had formal lessons, just kinda rocked out. (yes i was terrible.) Sold my drums because I moved and never got a new kit. I had upgraded my kit over the years with cheap cymbals, pedal, hardware, etc.... about 1000 bucks worth and sold it for 500.
Anyways, I'm 22 now, haven't touched a drumset in 2 years and I absolutely miss it. And this time I want to take a little more seriously. Possibly take lessons. I do love drumming, and its something I could see myself doing for the rest of my life.
The thing is..... I have no idea what to buy...
Basically I'll be using the drums for all sorts of music, but mostly in the pop/rock/metal genre's. I'm more of an energy player than a finesse player, so what type of heads, sticks, pedals, hardware, etc would you recommened? I don't know if you need to know, but i'm a rather big guy, 6'4", 210lbs, right handed.
There's so much new stuff that's come out the last few years that I haven't even heard of. I used to use Pearl Eliminators, but theres a new Demon Drive out? What's that like? No more Pearl Export, replaced by the Vision series? How are those? Maple vs birch? Whats the difference?
As far as cymbals go, I used to have Sabian B8's, and some other random cheaper cymbals. What would be good for me and the style of music I'm going for? I don't hit the cymbals incredibly hard, but I don't want something that would crack in a week but still sounds great.
Shells, I do like Pearl's, but honestly I have no idea what is better or is it all about preference? Truth drums are very cool, but are custom drums really worth the ridiculous price? Especially for someone like me?
Since I do plan on playing drums for a long time, is it worth it to just invest the money now in something of great quality and super nice? Or would that be rather douchbaggish of me to buy expensive equiptment and be a noob?
Also, I've considered an electronic kit since I do tend to move around quite a bit and it would be much easier for me to transport them around. If I went with acoustics they would have to stay in my garage... which can get rather cold in the winter. Bad idea? There's a possibility I will be playing at bars and smaller gigs, which really turns me off to the ekit idea. I know less about electric drums than I do acoustic, so any info is appreciated.
I'm looking for any ideas, thoughts, recommendations, links to articles, all sorts of stuff. I'm not telling you what I should buy but rather guide me of what my options are.
I won't be ordering this stuff online or anything, I just want to get a good idea of what there is before I go into a drum shop and drop thousand of dollars on stuff that doesn't even suit me.

After two decades online, I’m perplexed. It’s not that I haven’t had a gas of a good time on the Internet. I’ve met great people and even caught a hacker or two. But today, I’m uneasy about this most trendy and oversold community. Visionaries see a future of telecommuting workers, interactive libraries and multimedia classrooms. They speak of electronic town meetings and virtual communities. Commerce and business will shift from offices and malls to networks and modems. And the freedom of digital networks will make government more democratic.
Baloney. Do our computer pundits lack all common sense? The truth in no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works.
Consider today’s online world. The Usenet, a worldwide bulletin board, allows anyone to post messages across the nation. Your word gets out, leapfrogging editors and publishers. Every voice can be heard cheaply and instantly. The result? Every voice is heard. The cacophany more closely resembles citizens band radio, complete with handles, harrasment, and anonymous threats. When most everyone shouts, few listen. How about electronic publishing? Try reading a book on disc. At best, it’s an unpleasant chore: the myopic glow of a clunky computer replaces the friendly pages of a book. And you can’t tote that laptop to the beach. Yet Nicholas Negroponte, director of the MIT Media Lab, predicts that we’ll soon buy books and newspapers straight over the Intenet. Uh, sure.
What the Internet hucksters won’t tell you is tht the Internet is one big ocean of unedited data, without any pretense of completeness. Lacking editors, reviewers or critics, the Internet has become a wasteland of unfiltered data. You don’t know what to ignore and what’s worth reading. Logged onto the World Wide Web, I hunt for the date of the Battle of Trafalgar. Hundreds of files show up, and it takes 15 minutes to unravel them–one’s a biography written by an eighth grader, the second is a computer game that doesn’t work and the third is an image of a London monument. None answers my question, and my search is periodically interrupted by messages like, “Too many connectios, try again later.”
Won’t the Internet be useful in governing? Internet addicts clamor for government reports. But when Andy Spano ran for county executive in Westchester County, N.Y., he put every press release and position paper onto a bulletin board. In that affluent county, with plenty of computer companies, how many voters logged in? Fewer than 30. Not a good omen.

Then there are those pushing computers into schools. We’re told that multimedia will make schoolwork easy and fun. Students will happily learn from animated characters while taught by expertly tailored software.Who needs teachers when you’ve got computer-aided education? Bah. These expensive toys are difficult to use in classrooms and require extensive teacher training. Sure, kids love videogames–but think of your own experience: can you recall even one educational filmstrip of decades past? I’ll bet you remember the two or three great teachers who made a difference in your life.
Then there’s cyberbusiness. We’re promised instant catalog shopping–just point and click for great deals. We’ll order airline tickets over the network, make restaurant reservations and negotiate sales contracts. Stores will become obselete. So how come my local mall does more business in an afternoon than the entire Internet handles in a month? Even if there were a trustworthy way to send money over the Internet–which there isn’t–the network is missing a most essential ingredient of capitalism: salespeople.
What’s missing from this electronic wonderland? Human contact. Discount the fawning techno-burble about virtual communities. Computers and networks isolate us from one another. A network chat line is a limp substitute for meeting friends over coffee. No interactive multimedia display comes close to the excitement of a live concert. And who’d prefer cybersex to the real thing? While the Internet beckons brightly, seductively flashing an icon of knowledge-as-power, this nonplace lures us to surrender our time on earth. A poor substitute it is, this virtual reality where frustration is legion and where–in the holy names of Education and Progress–important aspects of human interactions are relentlessly devalued.

Currently I am living in Dubai. I heard that the prices for many items in Hong Kong (like Apple computers for example) are much cheaper then in the other countries. So I have an intention to start my little business of exporting goods. I am not rich, so i am planning to start with an item which does not requite big investments. Also for now I do not want to make any shipments, just carry the goods in my suitcase.
1. Which items are good to buy in Hong Kong?

This is exactly what I am doing now. Using different ways to find out the answers. As I mentioned, I am not ready for a big volumes yet. I just have chance to travel to South East Asia often, so I just want to make something out of it. My understanding is that exporting from PRC requires quantities and some logistic which then requires extra time and expenses. But I really appreciate your advice about Fair. It is a good idea. And as you doing it already, hope you would be able to share some experience with me.

hi i recently saw a music video being played at a shop. it sorta looked like lady gaga but i couldn't find the song that matched when i looked her up online. it was a electronic/pop song that was sung in english for the verses but a different language for the chorus (maybe it was japanese?) In the music video it showed the lyrics in english.

I was having problems with the alternator of my 2001 Mazda MPV this year. My mechanic forwarded me to an electronic specialist who told me that I needed a new computer for my car. I bought the computer, but it turned out that my mechanic was installing the wrong alternator in my car. Mazda will not accept returns on electrical parts, the electronic specialist won't buy back the computer, my mechanic can't find anyone to buy it, I've tried selling it on Ebay and other online auction places, and I've been to Salvage yards who won't take it either. I can't find places online that will buy it, so I'm hoping that there is a dealer or shop out on the internet that will buy it.
