Open Question: What is the fashion like in the UK?
I'm studying abroad from the US to the UK this summer, and would like to know what is different about the fashion in England than it is in the US. I plan on traveling around Europe, but will mostly be stationed in London. Could anyone give me any tips on things to wear? I'm female.
I tend to be a pretty preppy dresser as it is... I shop at places like American Eagle and Express. Low cut jeans, v neck shirts, scarves, etc.
Do Europeans tend to wear more hats? Scarves in the summer? Different kinds of jeans? Etc?
Anything you could give me would be of great help. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!!!

moreOpen Question: Best Place to live not far from Reading, but close to London?
Dear yahoo members
I would be grateful if you could possibly assist me with some information:
My husband and I are young hard working professionals with no children, he is starting a new job in Reading and we have to relocate quite soon. We are looking for a nice area to live, not far from Reading, but with good transport links to London because I will be transferred there in the future. My husband also travels to London on a weekly basis (Mondays) because he is doing a course.
The place does not need to be very close to Reading, our priority is to find a nice place to live: low crime rates, lively, with plenty of amenities, restaurants, coffee shops, cultural activity, cinemas and gyms (we like sports). We are not looking to live in a village; but, we would like to live in a city close to the countryside as well.
The cost of the place is not an issue because we are willing to spend extra in order to have a more pleasant stay. We already made a mistake of rushing to live in one place in order to save money; the place is very boring and sadly I was assaulted by youngsters twice.
After researching and we found: Wokingham, Guildford, Woking, Surrey Heath, Surbiton, Sutton and Epsom. It seems that the place closest to our taste would be Guildford. But were wondering if there are better alternatives.
Any help would be most appreciated
moreOpen Question: Where is nice in North London?
I am a 26 year old girl, thinking of moving to London and was wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice. I think I'd like to live in North London as I have heard quite a few good things about the areas, especially Camden in particular.
I am looking for somewhere:
-Lively with nice cafes, shops, bars, gym
-Somewhere leafy with a nice park nearby
-Not too expensive
-Good transport links
If this is all possible! Could someone please tell me if they think Camden would match what I am looking for or suggest any other areas? I'd be very grateful.
Thanks :)

moreOpen Question: Why do Americans think Britsh people are like this?
They think we say words like
God day governor's've never said that in my life or heard anyone but mocking americans say that about it
They think we all love tea, i in fact hate tea
Think we have bad teeth, no we don't all have bad teeth yes there are some people who do but remember we have free health care including dentists so that means we do have good teeth
Also they think we dress like were from the victorians, London is one the fashion capitals of the world some of the best designers are from England so why the would we dress like were from the victorians we do have clothes shops like H&M and stuff,
Also i'm not talking about the whole american population because im sure some are self aware, also if you bring up something like why do british people think all americans are fat, no they don't most our television here on magazines are filled with americans and we are aware there not all fat, and i don't think that. I love americans and there really nice people but when i visited america i got some really weird comments because i was british.
moreResolved Question: players that came, played occasionly, then left - aka biggest flops of the EPL?
Tomas Brolin
The man made a name for himself at AC Parma and at the 1994 World Cup with a few stunning goals. At the end of 1995 he moved to Leeds for ₤4.5 million and after arriving with weight problems, ‘Tubby’ scored a shocking 4 goals in 2 seasons all the while heavily lining the pockets of every McDonald’s manager in Leeds. Leeds terminated his contract in 1997 and it was all over for Fatty.
Denilson
Christiano Ronaldo without a brain would be a very apt title with which to describe Denilson. After signing for Betis for a then record 21.9 million Pounds, he proceeded to dribble himself for 7 years, before everyone realized how crap he really was. After an unsuccessful spell with Bordeaux, he decided to test his talent in the fairer climes of Saudi Arabia and FC Dallas. He seems to have found his level. Except FC Dallas don’t want him anymore.
Marco Boogers - West Ham
Harry Redknapp wasn't always the streetwise London gaffer he is today. The arrival of 'Mad' Marco Boogers for £1m from Sparta Rotterdam in July 1995 was just one of a number of misjudged West Ham imports. Coming on as a substitute against Manchester United in only his second appearance for the club, Boogers was almost immediately red carded for 'a sickening horror tackle' (The Sun) on Gary Neville. He promptly disappeared, discovered several weeks later hiding in a mobile home in a Dutch caravan park. The Boogers debacle, which ended in a loan deal and subsequent free transfer to Groningen despite his protestations - 'I'm not mental' - was the worst of a dreadful Redknapp
collection: Florin Raducioiu arrived for £2.4m in July 96 and was sold at a £600,000 loss six months later after missing training for a Harvey Nichols shopping trip; Portuguese supermodel Dani lasted five months before being thrown out for excessive nightclubbing; and £2m star Javier Margas went missing in February last year, turning up later at home in Chile. He, unlike Boogers, did come back.
Wim Jonk - Sheffield Wednesday
Not only did Jonk look like Michael Palin, but he was as tough in the tackle as him. The Dutchman, signed for £2.5m from PSV Eindhoven in 1998, lolloped anonymously around Wednesday’s midfield for two seasons, the second of which saw them relegated. After experiencing the hurly burly of two First Division games, he sat out the remaining year of his contract, citing a tummy ache. At the end of that season, he retired to concentrate on his poetry. Wednesday fans had their own rhymes for him.
Chris Sutton
Another Chelsea flop, Sutton never really did much at Chelsea in one season, after transferring from Blackburn Rovers for ₤10 million. Luckily he did better at Celtic forming a deadly partnership with Henrik Larsson. Aaah, the Scottish League, a retirement home for below average English strikers.
Massimo Taibi - Manchester United
Sir Alex signed him to replace Peter Schmeichel? In 1999, with Raimond van der Gouw always wearing his bridesmaid’s outfit and Mark Bosnich too cocky by half, Sir Alex Ferguson splashed out £4.5m on Venezia journeyman Massimo Taibi. The omnipresent tracksuit bottoms should have caused Ferguson to pause for thought. Instead, Taibi conceded two sloppy goals at Liverpool on his debut and one to Wimbledon the following week. Then the fun began: Southampton scored three at Old Trafford, including a Matthew Le Tissier “shot” that trickled through Taibi’s legs and was so soft, it barely crossed the line. Eight days later, Chelsea put five past him at Stamford Bridge and this Italian’s job was over, little more than a month after it had began. Taibi rotted in the reserves until Reggina took him on loan before a £2.5m purchase at season’s end. He was, noted a generous Roy Keane, “clearly a good keeper”. Clearly.
Juan Sebastian Veron - Manchester United
signed for 28.1 million from lazio on a five year deal and lasted just 2 years before being sold onto Chelsea for less than half man utd payed. The strange thing is he was touted as one of the best midfielders in the world and seem to lose all talent the minute he steped off the plane at Manchester Airport.
Corrado Grabbi - Blackburn Rovers
How the Italians chuckled in 2001 when Graeme Souness, manager of Blackburn Rovers, paid £6.75m for Juventus cast-off Corrado Grabbi, who had just scored 19 goals in 34 Serie B (not to be confused with Serie A) games for Ternana. Grabbi’s work ethic was never in doubt, but two goals in 30 Premiership games suggested Souness might have been better buying a Serie A player. After an especially profligate performance in the 2003 Uefa Cup against Genclerbirgli, Souness lost patience. Grabbi was bought by Ancona. The fee was undisclosed, but it wasn’t £6.75m.
Sean Dundee - Liverpool
In 1998, Karlsruhe were relegated from the Bundesliga. Their tubby star forward, Sean “Crocodile” Dundee, scored just three times. These facts d( continued from above or below depending on where this gets posted...)
....did not deter Liverpool manager Roy Evans from splashing out £2m for the German international who claimed to be as fast as Michael Owen. In fact, he wasn’t as fast as Liverpool fan Michael Howard. Liverpool’s official website raised the notion that Dundee was “possibly the worst player to have donned the red of LiverpoolYes, and Schevchenko too - but Scvhencho despite not being great in the EPL - will still go down as a world class legendary striker. (he won lots of honours with milan)

Please could someone be specific as to the area including the towns that have great schools, colleges & Uni`s and jobs available near train stations and local shops and amenities nearby as my friend does not drive, all these things are very important that she is away from the from the large Council estates and she is black with a sense of identity in tact and it would be best to know if there will be others like her, white, asians and other races as I care about her and the children I wouldnt want them being viewed as refugees when they are all British and if there really are any places that settling in comfortably and a good life could be perfect outside London.
Please could you help, with any knowledge and experiences that you have, either good or bad is appreciative please..please just go there and be real adding the negatives and the positives experiences where to go and where not to go and further info - Thank you.If we exclude Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield, google with the same question or a similar one, surprisingly racism is the biggest topic, why I hoped that me asking the question on answers wouldnt prompt racism remarks or comment disguised as being helpful. -
Anyway I should have added that my friend is educated to Masters levels, her kids are high achievers but its the atmosphere/area in where they live which is fearful for them more than anything.

personally, I think that guitar on ebay sounds good, especially the price.... but I don't know a lot about guitars.. but my brother is a musician, so i suppose he'll know about guitars, he said the make Ovation was a good make of guitars, and I checked them out online, and they are really nice :)

moreResolved Question: Ontarians: Where's a good spot to shop for wedding dresses?
I know some of you are out there!
I'm looking for a good spot to shop for white dresses, I guess, not necessarily bridal shops, Somewhere you can have a good/casual shopping experience and hopefully find a reasonably priced dress.
I'm in the GTA, so anywhere in the GTA, or London, Kitchener/Waterloo area.
Thanks! :)

moreVoting Question: Coolest city to live in?
I'm from the US, and I'm trying to look at cities in the UK and Ireland not in terms of nightlife, but independent bookstores, cafes, vintage shops, interesting people, that kind of thing.
Apart from London, could someone help me out? :)
moreVoting Question: Any good shops for prom dresses?
I'm looking for a prom dress but I have no idea what shops to look for. I tried googling and it either comes up with American sites or like very big ball gowns. I'm looking for something little more casual. Oh, and I'd rather the shop to be an actual shop not just an internet shop because I'd prefer to try it on. Also maybe a list of shops that I could go to in London?

moreResolved Question: Is this ok for my first MAC items?
Well I brought my first MAC lipstick like 2 weeks ago in SNOB.
Also, I am getting a blush, lipstick, and lipglass , and maybe an eyeshadow from their Give me Liberty of London collection that comes out next week on the 11th (I'm going to my MAC counter after school since my school is a 10 minute walk away from the mall)
Then In May I'm going back to my MAC counter and I'm getting a Lipstick, lipglass, eye kohl, maybe an eyeshadow too, and a blush from the MAC to the Beach collection coming out
Do you think this is good? I'm saving all my money after next thursday and I won't go shopping until this collection comes out on May 10th.
