Open Question: How many watts do 60W 130V bulbs actually use on standard 120V power?

Some "long life" bulbs are rated at 130V instead of 120V, so they appear dimmer than regular bulbs. This is how they get them to last longer. But are they actually consuming 60W when powered by standard 120V power, or is it less? Has anyone put a watt meter on one of these? more

Can I pull the meter off? Why is it so tight? or is the second ring also attached?The serial plastic ring is corroded and the ring can be removed and replaced. Open Question: What size meter base box do I need for a 60amp fuse panel?

Ok..this house was built in 1950's it has on the outside of the house a 60amp glass fuse panel box..I know it's retarded..I haven't seen a fuse panel on the outside of the house before..but it's what I have to work with until later updates. The power company is requiring us to upgrade the meter box base and the weatherhead..which I understood is the wires coming out of the top of the meter box just under the sofet of the roof. The meter box originally on this house was alittle round box..(never seen one of those either, LOL). We called an electrical supply place and they keep saying 100amp this 100 amp that..I guess my thing is..how can you go 40 more amps on a 60amp fuse panel. And maybe I'm not understanding..can someone please explain this..I'm new to redoing a house. Open Question: Both of my car audio amplifiers keep shutting off at the same time, can someone please help me troubleshoot?

Ok, so here's a little background... Recently I purchased a Pioneer avh-p4200dvd touch screen to replace my old fold-out avh-7500dvd. I used the same relay to bypass the parking break that I wired for my old unit (for educational purposes of course). I'm using the same aftermarket door chime module which has the 12v constant running out of it, so I've never had to run a different 12v wire from under the steering wheel like a lot of wiring kits call for. I'm using the same backup camera that I used for my other head unit. I've never had a single problem with my old head unit other than the fact that I hated the ipod interface. Once I installed the new head unit, every so ofter the sound cuts completely off (no lights dim, and nothing weird happens on the head unit screen like blinking, dimming, the timer keeps counting down, etc). It doesn't happen when I hit bumps (or come back on for that matter). My factory voltage meter goes down to about 10-11v, my bass amp kicks back on, my high amp kicks back on, and the voltage returns to 14v and my sound comes back. Then every so often it does it again. Sometimes it stays out for 10-15 secs or more, some times 1 sec or 2. Sometimes a bunch in a row. The amps themselves switch to protection when they cut-off. My two 1 Farad capacitors (2 Rockford Fosgate digital caps that are relatively new, and barred together with a distribution block and powered by one 4 gauge wire running from the battery.) say 14v when I start the vehicle (a 2003 Chevy Tahoe), and after about a minute they creep down to like 12.8v or so and stay there. I have a yellow top Optima if that helps. I recently replaced my alternator as well with a little larger one then what came with the truck. I just had my battery and alternator checked and they tested very well. My amps are an Infiniti 4-channel (75w x 4), and a Rockford Fosgate 2 channel (275wx2) running to two Rockford Fosgate DVC 10's (both rated to 300w). I'm running Rockford Fosgate components in the front door, and Rockford Fosgate 3 ways in the back doors, which are fairly low wattage. I've tried re-grounding everything up front to the frame (I'm also using a Pioneer add-on CD-BTB200 bluetooth unit). I've tried going over all of the wiring in my wiring harness (at least 20 times now). I've tried different sources and they all do the same thing (ipod, radio, dvd, etc.). I'm at a loss and really frustrated. I suppose it could be the head unit, the place I bought it from said they would replace it, but I have to pay a $40 processing fee to get a replacement, and I don't want to do that if it's just going to do the same with a new unit. My only theory is that the remote turn on wire is having an issue or something. How would I test that back at my amps? With a voltage meter? More importantly, what do I need to do to fix it if it is the remote turn on, just run another one? What else could it be? Thank you so much for your time in reading this. Open Question: Audi A4 rear fog light not working?

I have an Audi A4 1996 and the rear fog light doesn't work. I have put a volt meter across the terminals to ensure there wasn't a break in the line, but its drawing power (when the bulb is out of the socket) and I have checked and the bulb is working fine. The confusing bit is this, when the bulb is out, there is current flowing, however once the positive on the bulb touches the positive on the bulb holder the power drops to zero. in other words when the bulb is out it draws power when the bulb is in, it stops this draw of power. Anybody ever heard of this? thanks more

I need to replace my 9.5kw shower that is faulty. This is currently on 6mm cable approx 8 metres from the trip switch (of which the shower has its own) and a pull switch in the bathroom. My question is am I ok to replace the shower with another 9.kw? I was concerned that the cable may have burnt out but actually it was the circuit board that overheated melting the showers power wire in the process. Voting Question: Random Car Audio Question? Could Use Some Suggestions?

I am running A set of (older) Boston Acoustics Pro's for my front stage. 75 RMS to each split off a Memphis M class 4 Channel Amp. I set my head unit EQ to "flat" and set the HPF to around 100-120 hz which is perfect due to the fact that they are only 5" midrange. I did not use a meter during the duration of "tuning." I simply set my headunit to around 80% power, set my amp to "flat" and tweaked my gain until it started to distort then backed off a bit. I tried to use the HPF setting but it didnt sound as "full" so I set it to "flat" and that bi-passed all other settings on the amp (boost, etc) Point being.....the tweets realy suck. At "normal" listening levels they sound prestine, but if you crank em' the midrange sounds amazing, but the tweets are HARSH on the S's and H's. You basicaly get a head ache listening after while. Now I know tell me to turn it down, but they still dont sound right. Way too bright! I know they are metal dome tweets, but They are Boston Pro's! I set them to negative 3 on the crossover which helped a bit, I went and tried turning my treble down a few notches, sounded great at high volumes, but at normal volumes it sounded unbalanced. Everything is in stock position, the woofers are near the floor facing the dome light, the tweets are up by the mirrors in the stock locations. Any recomendations on how I can get the "brightness" down would be great. Try running them Active? more

Hello everyone, I am curious if you have any experience of energy and water efficient dishwashers? I am buying a dishwasher to work with my own solar power and gravity fed rain tanks. Bosch, LG and Fisher & Paykal all tell me they no longer make any dishwashers with hot and cold inlets - because it made their energy ratings worse!!??! However, a technician told me to plumb the hot water into the only inlet, have it at a minimum of 65 degrees Celsius, and that it needs water pressure of at least 35 kpa, which equates to 3 meters of head when only gravity fed. So this may work, but I am keen to hear of anyone else's experience around this. All the best, AndyThanks J, I assume my septic tank can handle the load as I wash up quite a few times a day already with kids at home, so I think one load of a dishwasher will be economical on water. I hope the 65 degree water inlet means the machine does not need to use electricity to heat the water more; and I hope to disable the drying cycle and just open the door and let the dishes dry as they would normally on a rack. my solar system generates 3.5 kw; the house is wired for 240 Volts from 24 V batteries. I can monitor the power levels by a meter. I appreciate any other advice. There must be others who have done this? yours, Andy more

Resolved Question: Why is my computer giving off a ton of radiation?

I just purchased a cell phone radiation detector (Technology Alternatives 7021 Cell Sensor EMF Detection Meter). It detects both "radio waves" (scale of .1-10 mW/cm2) and "EMF/ELF" (scale of 1-50 milliGauss). It seems to work, as it detects nothing around non-electric things, but if you put it next to a cell phone (that's on a call) it picks up measurements. Surprisingly, it also picks up high measurements (as high as the cell phone!) around my cordless phone. But the most surprising thing is that it absolutely goes off, and records mid to maximum readings around my desktop computer - especially the part of the motherboard that contains the processor. Can anyone explain that? P.S. It's not the WIFI either. i took that out and the readings were just as high. It's pretty cleary the chip (or as a remote possibility the power supply). more

ok i have 2 operating systems on my computer, windows vista(im on now) and windows xp. my xp side of my computer is overheating 30 seconds to 2 minutes after i log in, the cpu meter shows that the computer is doing almost nothing, so it's not overheating from me doing anything, but somehow it's getting insanely hot, insanely fast. it's a laptop, i've already made sure the power plan is all the way up. but i have no idea why it's overheating so badly, i can run my vista side raggid and get it so hot i'll burn myself from touching it, and it still wont shut down, but my xp side just sits there and does nothing yet gets nuclear in a matter of seconds--even if the computer has been off for hours and i immediately start it in xp. any ideas on how to fix this and what might be wrong with it? more

I am trying to fit a 34" static balsa airplane with electronics for radio controlled flight. I am trying to use a lighter power system so I am using 2 cell phone batteries. They are wired in series, each rated at 800 mAh and 3.6V. My M-meter showed a total voltage of 3.2 volts after they were joined, (they had not been charged yet) I ran the 400 series prop motor and found great power and a draw of 2.34 amps. Now to the problem...I tried to perform a charge using a 12 volt 500 mA transformer. I planed on a quick charge rate of 8 minutes to see how it worked. The battery made it to 4.12 volts but the charging transformer died. I tried another transformer of the same type and now it is giving me an output of 4 volts versus the original 15V when new. I am an amateur in this...so what am I doing wrong? Why can't the batteries reach the projected 7.2V? How can I charge these? Thanks. more

I'm not pregnant in case anyone thought of anything like that. But I was doing some exercising with a group after I came back from vacation for roughly 2.5 weeks. Before I left, I stretched and ran 2 times every week, we also did staircases 10 up, 10 down, roughly 5 meters or so. After I came back, the exercise was slightly more strenuous. We did stretches, running as a group (decent pace, but I could not move as I please because they were running as a group and I was not allowed to run ahead), lunges, and then they ran up and down the stairs 5 sets again but the distance was doubled or tripled. I'm not quite sure, but that day, I ended up barely finishing the lunges and did not even do staircases. At some point during the running, some people were being "encouraging" by pushing me to run with the rest of them, but I feel like I can't run in a group that, so I started power-walking instead. Everytime I tried running with them, catching up, etc etc, I would be eating dust. When those people got annoying, I just sprinted for a few meters and stopped, holding my stomach in pain, but I finished the rest of the running and did my lunges anyhow. My thighs don't feel sore anymore, but my stomach still feels pain. So now I thought my pain would go away, but this soreness still exists even after 3 days. So I was wondering, what exactly happened from this exercise? It just hurts to get myself up daily so far. more

Resolved Question: Camshaft sensor (CAS) voltage test results.. need help here?

Car is an Eagle Talon 96 2G ESI. I've been having a cutoff problem and trying to narrow it down. Symptoms: Car dies while driving or idling within a half hour, sometimes 10 minutes. Can start up usually after 5 minutes or so but then repeats the cutting off. Results: When car dies and immediately will not start back up I test the power going to the coils and only 0.07v. When the power shows 12v I plug back in coil pack and starts. So I know that the ASD (MFI) relay is either cutting off and bad or something is telling the PCM to not send power to it. In this mode the fuel pump does not prime either. I'm pretty sure the PCM send the command to the ASD (MFI) relay which then allows power to pump, coil pack and injectors. I tested volts on the cable that goes to the camshaft position sensor because I'm suspicious of it but the results don't make sense but I am a newby with a multimeter :s The middle wire appears to be black and ground and doing an ohms test it appears to read either 001 or 002 set on range 20ohms on meter. Most things seem to say 2 ohms or less is good. I test for voltage on the other two wires being blue with red stripe and one is yellow. Both show 0.68v with the key turned to the ON position. My understanding is that one should be 12v and the other is the signal which should be anywhere from 1.5v to 5v. I'm not sure if that is correct but the Haynes manual says and also read on forums. One important note is that I can tell if the car will start with key in the ON position because it will show the check engine light along with the red indicator lights when you turn key to ON. Also the radiator reservoir symbol. If I pull the plug on the camshaft sensor and turn the key to ON it shows only the red indicator lights and will not start but the strange thing is if I plug the camshaft back up and turn key to ON after doing that it will not start for awhile. Like something has alreadt told the PCM something and now on a timer before allows to start. weird. My personal opinion of this is the test doesn't mean much unplugged because the second the PCM realizes the camshaft sensor is not connected or functioning it appears it cuts power to it as well as the coil, pump, injectors, etc. So the test of voltage may mean nothing and makes sense I guess. I think if I was to remove the insulation on the power wire and signal wire that while it's connected I would get actual voltages. Because the PCM shuts power to everything immediately if sensor is not communicating or senses it. And just the same, the car will not start if I have CAS unplugged. So no reason to bother to test voltage while cranking. What do you make of all of this?????????????????????? Thanks in advance :)It's a 95 but wouldn't make a differenceI've read about the ECU/PCM's capacitors doing so but mine is filled with the goo stuff so water proof I guess. Capacitor could go bad but it wouldn't be able to leak. Actually I went ahead and put a new CAS on it, cleaned the throttle body. Got a throttle body sensor code at Advance earlier. I just drove the hell out of the car and never cut off once but it could still start doing again. It seems like the original CAS connector was shorting out because before I rewired the new connector for CAS I tested and then the power wire was giving 9v which I think is correct. The manual says 12v but most things I've read online says 9v. more
