Welcome to Flow Indicators Questions and Answers

Voting Question: Bio questions please AYUUUDAMEE(HELLPP MEEE!?)?

1) Given that pure water has a pH of 7.0, where do you think the optimal range for photosynthesis might be? Why? 2)When the stomata close, as in winter, the chlorophyll and other essential photosynthetic compounds are resorbed into the tree, turning the leaf a fall color. If acid rain causes photosynthesis to cease, how do you think the tree would react? Why? 3)Pretend you used a color indicator to show the flow of electrons generated by photosynthesis. In the computer simulation, the flow of oxygen was used. Are the two methods equally valid? What, if any, differences might there be between the two. Explain. more

Resolved Question: PUR water-filter status lights (green, orange, red) - when the light goes red, is the...?

...water output no longer filtered?I use the PUR filters in my refrigerator and on my kitchen tap for water. The indicator lights will change from green to red in 45-60 days after a filter replacement, but the water will keep flowing for another 60-90 days before the filter completely clogs up, and then I have to replace the filter. During the period when the light is red, is the water still being purified? My guess is that it is.I use a similar filter system when I go hiking, and the instruction manual states that the filter will only output clean filtered water and can be used up until it is completely clogged. But the data on the home filters only say to replace the filter immediately after the light goes red. I think they just want to sell more filters. more

Resolved Question: Wireless connection - anyone had this issue?

I've got a Netgear router that, when it's working properly, has solid light indicators for power, cable, and wireless, and blinking ones for upstream and downstream. Unfortunately, about once or twice a month, the wireless indicator starts flickering rapidly, and the connection grinds to a halt. When this happens, it really does seem like the ability of the laptop and router to interface is rapidly cutting in and out, since whether I can navigate to a new page or get the "problem loading page" sign is arbitrary and comes down to timing. I can forget about anything requiring a constant flow of information. Typical quick fixes - manually rebooting the router and/or restarting the laptop, or messing with the wires - do nothing. The provider (Time Warner) can set up a new connection over the phone, which sometimes helps, but never resolves the problem permanently. The weirdest thing is that it will usually resolve itself after about 24 hours with no intervention at all. But it always comes back, and this time it's been going on for a couple days. Anyone know what might cause this? more

Resolved Question: WHY DRIVERS ????????

does nobody indicate (maybe a hand full of people do) when driving? Are you not taught to drive using indicators. And why do people stop in the middle of the road or slow down and cause tail backs and have no consideration for the people behind. Do people not realise that by indicating and driving properly the traffic would flow more easier and there would be less accidents. I wont even comment on ZR's or private buses, And why do driver's think they have to drive full beam at night towards on-coming traffic, even behind you, lights are full beam, do they not know they're still blinding you. I think half the people in Barbados cannot drive and need to re-take their test and not buy their license.Throttle bopple whatever, I drive for a living, every day i'm all over Barbados and have driven in loads of countries and it's only in Barbados that they do what they do..........are you saying you indicate, stay in the correct lane and especially not use the overtaking lane on the highway to doddle along at 40km an hour so people have to overtake on the outside lane......which in most counties is illegal and you get booked.Thanku Highly.....glad i'm not the only one who gets frustrated. more

Resolved Question: What do you think of the beginning of my short story?

Note: This is only for a writing contest that I am entering and it can only be five pages long. I know this part is short, but please be as constructive as you can. My wife and unborn child may die tonight. The doctors keep telling me that their lives are in God's hands. I am a man of faith, but how am I supposed to believe in anything when the two most important people to me are slowly having the life drained out of them. Everything's getting harder; breathing, seeing, acting like they'll pull through. I've even pinched myself to see if this is just a nightmare. Waiting is the hardest thing though. I'm waiting for my family to die or I'm waiting for the doctors to tell me that they'll live, but there's damage that's been done. Either way, I'm expecting a disaster. I've been sitting in the same waiting room that has these awful, sickeningly cream colored walls with pictures of sailboats. I think their purpose is to help calm people down, but it's just nauseating to me. I keep glancing at the clock, but it tells me that it's only been a few hours. I've shifted so much in my seat that I'm sure I've left an indentation in the plastic. Just then, Dr. Allen comes through the double doors of the ICU and I swear that there is a superhero cape flowing in the air as he walks toward me. I keep telling myself that it'll be bad news, so why not be positive for once? He pulls up another chair and sits in front of me. Now, I can see his bloodshot eyes, an indicator that something else has gone wrong. He's not smiling and his jaw is set like he's angry that his favorite baseball team has just lost the World Series. "Mr. Garretti," he starts. "How are you feeling?" Does it really matter how I am feeling? My wife and baby are in serious trouble and this guy is asking me how I am even though I got off with minor injuries. He should be tending to them, not worrying about me. "How's my wife?" I make it short and simple, hoping he could answer it before all of the anxiety kills me. My hands are sweating so much that I'm wiping them on my bloody jeans, my body shaking with fear, my breathing coming out in shallow gasps. "Kate's internal bleeding is much worse than we thought. She could hemorrhage and bleed out at any moment. Mr. Garretti, we need a decision." Suddenly, the world comes crashing down. My vision blurs with tears and I feel my heart drop into the pit of my stomach. I gulp. "D-Decision?" "There's nothing more we can do. We prolonged it for as long as we could and now you need to do this," Dr. Allen tells me. I can't make this decision! Is he nuts? How can he ask me to either pick my wife or my child and just let the other one die? "Mr, Garretti, I know this is tough, but you need to decide as soon as possible. Time isn't on our side right now." He's right about that. Now, God is making me choose between the two people I can't stand to lose all within hours. I hear Dr. Allen sigh. I look up from staring at the tiles on the floor and meet his gaze. This isn't fair. Why do I have to do this? I stand up. "I'm sorry, Dr. Allen. I-I can't do this right now." I find myself limping outside and wincing as the bitter winter air stings my skin as I sit down on a desolate bench. Hunching over, I let several tears fall to the ground before wiping my eyes and nose with my sleeve. I reach into my pocket and pull out my cell phone, holding down the number two button and listening as the phone rings in my ear. Please pick up, Abby. Please pick up. * So, what do you think of it? Would you read on? Why or why not? Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it! more

Voting Question: Does it sound like pregnancy to any mothers out there?

I started wondering when I bled for ONE day. I have irregular periods, but the fact that this went away after a day is puzzling.. I had unprotected sex 11 days ago.. And I didn't know about "egg white cervical mucus" until like 2 days ago... but i DO remember the day before I had sex (and I had sex in the afternoon the day I did it) that I had 2 occasions of that EWCM - once in my panties and once when I wiped.. Gross as it sounds, I did stretch it between 2 fingers because I was concerned about what it was. So, now I know that its a good indicator of ovulation!!! A few days later I had the one day bleeding (not SUPER light, but definately not a flow). Then my boobs felt tender a couple days later, but I thought I was overreacting. They hurt more everyday now. I think my areolas look bigger but only sometimes (weird)... well 2 days ago I went into the bathroom to check out my areolas and I had HUGE BLUE veins pertruding on my breasts, basically outlining my nipples.. today they are sticking out as much but theyre still there and dark.. and I almost threw up a couple times but not everyday.. and as of yesterday I have noticed my strong sense of smell. A truck drove by a restaurant I was at.. I was sitting outside but not close to the road.. and the truck went by at about 50mph... and I smelled a HUGE whiff of diesel gas.. out of nowhere.. thought I was gonna puke! OH and I forgot to mention... the horribly horribly sour taste that is in the back of my mouth that comes and goes but it usually sticks around after the first time I eat in a day.. I think its that Metal Mouth thing, but im not sure -- is it sorta a sour taste?? here's the kicker -- I tested, 3 times, and its negative.. but I am pretty sure its too early right? SOMEONE PLEASEEEE HELP!!! more

Resolved Question: What's your opinion about how CM Punk's philosophy about hair as an indicator of how you've lived your life?

His straight-edged society teachings are somewhat intriguing. I know people see it as a gimmick, but parts of it sound really interesting. Like when he said something like his hair is pure as the long driven snow, it was enlightening. So, do you think there's any truth to it? Like if you 'grow up' right and pure, then you'll have long straight flowing hair. But, if you don't 'grow up' right and pure, then you're hair won't grow out long and straight and flowing? more

Resolved Question: Homemade radiant heat question?

I am trying to make a radiant heating system for a small cabin. My idea is to use aluminum piping filled with some sort of antifreeze or glycol solution(anti freeze most likely as alcohol would be quite risky). I would have a reservoir that sits inside or atop a wood burning stove. I would use a hand powered transfer pump to circulate the hot fluid through the piping system every few hours. I will install the piping under the floor and perhaps even through the walls. I will install a pressure relief valve as well as a paddle-wheel style sight flow indicator and ball valves on the suction and discharge side of the pump so that if I need to repair the pump I can have shut off and not drain the entire system. Any recommendation on the piping material? Al is cheap and transfers heat well Any recommendation on the best fluid to use? I know antifreeze is good for not freezing but I am not sure what happens to it if say I forgot to circulate the fluid. How hot can that stuff get before it becomes an issue?? Should I use a mixture of alcohol and water? This is what I am most confused about. Here are the supplies I am thinking Piping http://www.metalsdepot.com/products/alum2.phtml?page=pipe&LimAcc=$LimAcc Transfer pump http://www.lehmans.com/store/Water___Water_Pumps___Pump_Rods__Pipes__and_Tools___Hand__x2D_Powered_Transfer_Pump___93099?Args= Thread end paddlewheel sightflow indicator so I know I don’t have blockage in the line http://www.johnernst.com/flow_indicators_p3.html#137P Ball valve for positive shutoff incase of repair/replace pump https://b2c.ernstflow.com/b2c/ecom/ecomEnduser/items/xt_itemDetailNF.aspx?itemNum=76-VALV-SS-0012&siteId=1&bulkexists=0 The way I see it as long as I have a wood burning stove or even just a fire that I can heat up the radiator with I should have plenty of heat radiating in my little place. Problems/Issues/Insights are much appreciated. or maybe a link to another website forum that i could ask this on. Thanksi forgot. i would be using solar powered fans in the ceiling to more the air aroundThanks for the reply Mike..yes I have a habit of making things entirely more complicated then they need to be. Perhaps the wood burner alone would be enoughBless you angel. Thanks so much for your help. I have lots of learn. Perhaps I could send you schematics to review after I finish them…..claptic. i just dont know brother..i have thought deeply about what you have said. but the liquid in-between multiple discs in my spine has burst and i now have these discs drying up and breaking apart as we speak. i have youth on my side now but my fear is that in less then a decade i may not be able to physically move more then a few steps a day. so i guess i have to make a choice...both of which are fear based. do i make a permanent residence in a secluded part of the country and fear both my own health decline as well as dying to protect my home? or do i attempt the nomadic lifestyle and fear that tyranny will find its way to my tent forcing me to have to move, which i may not be able to do? i have no fear of death.....but i have a fear of a life filled with physical pain leading to total paralysis(which is highly probable). i want to travel the country with backpack and tent for 5 years or so...but before i do that i am thinking about setting up a permanent cabin w/few acresthe cabin will be for when my spine finally gives out and i am forced to bed for the rest of my days. but if that doesnt happen then i will be able continue being a ramblin man. i wish i didnt have to prepare..i feel like preparation is in stark contrast to what i know to be true... but i am just torn because i dont know why i have this physical setback.... more

Resolved Question: Could somebody explain why this was a misuse of the questions and answers format?

With so much extremism and hatred posted on yahoo answers politics that never gets deleted, I can't begin to understand how a post like this gets deleted? This is just one of many examples on how Yahoo is biased against facts that don't agree with the right-wing moderator viewpoints. There is no attempt at being unbiased at at Yahoo answers. Subject: Why won't Republicans acknowledge that Obama is saving the US economy? Additional details: It's very easy to see that Repubican arguments suggesting that Obama is causing the economy to fail are disconnected from reality: #1 Their former hero GW Bush warned while he was in office that we were in danger of a depression worse than the great depression: "The question facing a President is not when the problem started, but what did you do about it when you recognized the problem. And I readily concede I chunked aside some of my free market principles when I was told by [my] chief economic advisors that the situation we were facing could be worse than the Great Depression." #2 The IMF credits stimulus spending for making credit flow again, reducing uncertainty, increasing confidence, and improving financial conditions. They also say that job growth will return in early 2010 (as all economists know, job growth is a lagged indicator of the economy): http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/survey/so/2009/res100109a.htm #3 All economic news continues to be positive, and jobs are beginning to return (see: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091224/ap_on_bi_go_ec_fi/us_economy ). The Dow is up more than 25% on the year and continues to go upward. As for deficit spending, the IMF argues that the time to worry about the deficit is after the economy has fully recovered, not before (it could endanger the recovery). Despite this, Republicans still complain about spending, while ignoring (i) The indisputable success of TARP which has returned more than $200 billion from the major banks, and (ii) The Republicans are the world's biggest hypocrites when it comes to deficits, see: http://www.forbes.com/2009/11/19/republican-budget-hypocrisy-health-care-opinions-columnists-bruce-bartlett.html Looks to me that Republicans don't have a leg to stand on here. Will they ever admit that they are wrong, and thank Obama for fixing up the disaster that was mostly caused by them? There *is* a question: "Could somebody explain why this was a misuse of the questions and answers format?" If I post the question only with no supporting data, then I get criticized for not have any proof to back up my question. But if I include the proof, then suddenly it gets classified as a rant? Well, that's a solid strategy for trying to censor anything that does not agree with their far-right agenda. Unbelievable that Yahoo thinks they can censor political viewpoints that disagree with their own. Has it always been this way here, or only since Jerry Yang was ousted? more

Resolved Question: A little nervous - question about implantation and miscarriage?

I’m hoping to gain a little insight here. Thank you in advance to anyone who reads through all of this. So, I have ALWAYS had regular periods. My cycle averages from 25-28 days and my Luteal Phase seems to be 13/14 days. My husband and I are not exactly “trying” to conceive, but we have been “less careful” in the past few months and would welcome a pregnancy should it come along. I’ve kept track of my periods on My Monthly Cycles for quite a few years now and have just recently (since July) started paying more attention to my fertility. I’ve monitored cervical mucus and even used an Ovulation Predictor Kit because I wanted to be sure that I was ovulating regularly. I seem to ovulate anywhere from Cycle Day 12 to Cycle Day 14. I’ve gotten positive readings every month on the ovulation prediction kits so I am pretty sure that everything is the way it should be. One of my concerns is that my periods tend to be VERY heavy. There are times when I will bleed through a tampon in 1.5 hours (usually on cycle day 2). I also get clots that sometimes are large in size (although this doesn’t always happen). I had a consultation with my doctor and discussed my concerns with him and he said that it’s normal and he even did a sonogram and said that my uterus looks very healthy and he sees no reason why I shouldn’t be able to get pregnant unassisted. He said that it really isn’t necessary for any further fertility tests until I have been “trying” for at least a year. I was very relieved. Now for my question – I am due for my period next Monday or Tuesday. I have had some mild cramping since this past Monday and it has been on and off up until today (and even a little bit this morning). Typically I do not get cramps until a day or 2 at most before my period. I know that this can be an indicator of implantation but I am a little worried because I noticed the same thing in October (when we had a very good chance of conceiving due to timing and ovulation) and I ended up with a VERY heavy period. November this didn’t happen but I also know that we did not have sex during my ovulation time. Now here I am again in December, feeling the cramps, knowing that we had sex when I ovulated and feeling cramps a week before my period. I’m worried that when I get my period, it will be very heavy again. Is it possible that the reason this keeps happening during months when I have a chance of conceiving is because I am having a very early miscarriage? I’m nervous that maybe we are in fact conceiving and then not having successful implantation and that is where the early cramps and heavy flow is coming from. Am I crazy and/or reading too much into this? more

Resolved Question: Survey: whom do you trust more, the naysayers on Yahoo Answers, or the IMF and NABE?

The message from the Yahoo Answers community is loud and clear: the sky is falling. The muslim non-US citizen president is succeeding in his goal of destroying America's economy (even though the Dow is up more than 30% since he took office). The stimulus package has done nothing except created huge deficits (as if Republicans never had done the same thing). Unemployment is at the highest level ever (Reagan's years don't count, neither does the great depression and the other depressions in American history). Instead of this stimulus package, Obama should be cutting back on spending (i.e. the same actions Hoover and Andrew Jackson took which lead to the two biggest depressions in American history) and cutting taxes instead (the same thing Bush did for the last 8 years). If you don't realize cutting taxes solves all economic problems, then "your (sic) and idiot." The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) give quite a different assessment. See: http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/weo/2009/02/pdf/exesum.pdf and http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Economic-survey-Job-losses-to-apf-2386912487.html;_ylt=Agm.zwPMbhU1V6uP0j9bXGu7YWsA;_ylu=X3oDMTE1MWY3aHQ1BHBvcwM1BHNlYwN0b3BTdG9yaWVzBHNsawNlY29ub21pY3N1cnY-?x=0&sec=topStories&pos=3&asset=&ccode= The IMF claims that the economy is rebounding and world trade is beginning to pick up. In their words, "The triggers for this rebound are strong public policies across advanced and many emerging economies that have supported demand and all but eliminated fears of a global depression. These fears contributed to the steepest drop in global activity and trade since World War II. Central banks reacted quickly with exceptionally large interest rate cuts as well as unconventional measures to inject liquidity and sustain credit. Governments launched major fiscal stimulus programs, while supporting banks with guarantees and capital injections. "Together, these measures reduced uncertainty and increased confidence, helping to improve financial conditions. This was seen in strong rallies across many markets and a rebound in international capital flows. " In other words, we ought to be very grateful for the stimulus package which has saved us from entering another great depression. Furthermore, they have an optimistic outlook: "After contracting by about 1 percent in 2009, global activity is forecast to expand by about 3 percent in 2010." They also make it quite clear that deficits should be tackled after the economy recovers, not before (presumably related to the remark above about Hoover and Jackson). The NABE is also quite optimistic. Although the right-wing Yahoo Answers community does not seem to realize that unemployment is a lagged indicator, everybody else knows it, and NABE is telling us that it should begin to turn around soon: "While the recovery has been jobless so far, that should soon change," said Lynn Reaser, NABE's president and chief economist at Point Loma Nazarene University. "Within the next few months, companies should be adding instead of cutting jobs." So whom do you trust more? more

Resolved Question: Is There a connection between Wall Street and the Real Economy any longer?

In other words, is the Dow Jones average, and all the other stock-based averages, representative of what's really happening in the world of commerce, in which the manufacturing of products and not the manipulation of money is the main consideration? It seems that the making of money off of money has taken precedence over the production of goods, services and the creation of jobs. Why else would Main Street seem so disconnected to the money mad men of finance? And please, I don't want to hear about all the bs concerning lagging indicators. Any rational person realizes that after a crash of the magnitude of the Bush induced financial calamity, that it takes time for the infusion of money to work its way through the system so that goods and jobs can be created. But even when it does, where are the jobs going to come from if America no longer has the capacity to produce the products that create them? A service economy can take us just so far. And this is, in my opinion, the great sin of Barack Obama and his inherited crew of economic rapists, they are merely continuing the lies of past administrations that suggests a service economy can satisfy the financial needs of our people. The Obamanations are also pulling the wool over America's eyes when they foster the notion that the boom and bust system of the Federal Reserve is the best financial policy that we can muster. If there is one thing that Texas Congressman Ron Paul is dead right about, it's the need to eliminate this relic of the Robber Baron era and start afresh. If we did that then maybe we just might stop the flow of real economic power to China for the useless paper that only benefits bankers. If we did that, then maybe we'd create the jobs that allow the rest of us to share in the future "recovery" that these criminals are predicting. But I don't expect that to happen anytime soon if Main Street doesn't get its act together and stops being a slave to the whims of foreign investors and home grown traitors pretending to be traders. What do you think? Our primary exports are natural resources and a few labor non-intensive industries like pharmaceuticals , so where exactly do you see our jobs benefitting from the lower dollar?Again, you miss my point. We don't manufacture anything of value, so how can the dollar effect on our exports? Several cases in point. 3 of the 4 "American" pharmaceuticals are foreign owned and produce their goods overseas. That's why a shortage exists of swine flue vaccine. Chevy is exporting their jobs to China to make the new models. Fords are mostly manufactured in Canada. 70% of all construction equipment is made overseas. The American clothing and shoe manufacturing industry no longer exists. Becton Dickonson, the world's largest producer of thermometers makes most of their product in France. I can go on and on, but the best way to end my litany of lack is to refer to the fact that when Ford decided to split the manufacture of one of their models between Japan and the US, the Japanese model became the consistent favorite of their customers. The fact is, a lower dollar won't matter if we don't start learning how to make products that don't fall apart. more

Resolved Question: Can too much urine on a pregnancy test cause a positive reading?

My friend never had used a test before and urinated A LOT and also didn't put it at the downward facing position so all the urine was just flowing into the test and then put the cap on and laid it down. It barely made it to the indicator but it looked like a faint blue was all over the window areas and then I did mine and of course it was correctly done and the blue came right away for the negative and nothing more. Well we waited and looked at it over 2 minutes like it said and there was nothing in the positive window for either and then we put them both in box and then came back about an hour later and she had a faint positive line but barely and me nothing, was this caused by the excessive urinating. Now she is scared to take another because of the whole thing. We looked up when she would have been the most fertile at the time and she had intercourse when it was furthest from the time of being fertile! Please if anyone can enlighten me with this. I am going to try to get her to do another. more

Resolved Question: Purging the hydraulic clutch I see brake fluid pouring from under the gear box, what's wrong?

I lost pressure on the clutch pedal of my Chevy which has a hydraulic clutch system. So I decided to purge the system, I filled in the brake fluid reservoir, loosened the bleeder and asked a friend to pump the pedal. Then I saw a flow of the brake fluid pour below the gear box where it is aligned to the engine. Saw there is a very small hole there as to purposely let the fluid out as an indicator that something has gone wrong, such as an inner gear box leak. What could this be due to? Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Home Wiring Switch w/ Indicator Light?

I'm interested if anybody can provide me with a link to one or more products that will indicate when current is flowing through a switch. Specifically, I recently installed an attic fan. I wanted to be able to turn the fan off from within the house, so I used the existing wiring (was connected to the light in the attic) to wire up the attic fan. The fan itself has a thermostat switch. What I'd like, is a way from the interior of the house to know if the attic fan is currently on or not. I presume current only flows through the circuit when the fan is on (or when the light in the attic is on). Therefore, I was hoping I could install a wall switch that had some kind of indicator on it when current was flowing through the circuit. Any recommendations of specific products, or where I can learn more about this? more

Resolved Question: So... am I an empath? Please, don't mock me.?

So, this will be classified under whatever paranormal stuff is under. But basically, I've been in-tune with my senses lately. But its not with the normal 5 senses; its more with the vibes and feelings of people. I've heard about people with psychic empathic abilities so I was wondering if maybe I am like these people (no. not crazy and/or delusional --- i'd like to give paranormal stuff a benefit of a doubt). So yes, I am wondering if I am an empathy. Here are some of the reasons why I think I have this ability. 1) I tend to know what people are feeling before they tell anyone. I don't have to look at their face or their body language. I just start feeling different. For example, I feel a wave of energy when someone is happy or I feel drained if someone around me is sad. I also feel aggravation when someone is angry/irritated. 2) I can sense if someone is lying to me, again without having to read any body language. I just know if there is something off with what is happening around me. But also, I don't have to be in any physical closeness to the person. I can sense it over the phone or even instant message. 3) I can easily manipulate people into doing things. Maybe I'm just used to using psychological tactics, but I usually get people to trust me in mere moments. I usually manipulate people so they benefit out of it (i.e. making a good friend asking his crush out who I knew liked him). I can also manipulate situations so that the vibe I want will occure or the situation I want will most likely happen. 4) As stated above, I can tell what people feel towards other people. Knock on wood, but I have NEVER been wrong. Everyone I've paired off have gotten together. I'm known as the go to guy to introduce and match people off. 5) I can easily manipulate my moods. Maybe I just have a cold heart (lol, I'd like to think I don't) but I can easily shrug off feelings, may it be happy or sad (usually with the negative ones) and just go on with life. 7)I can sense what possible outcomes will occur from events and choose the most probable outcome that will happen. I've been right about 90% of the time. I just feel like I know what's going to happen next. (Mostly because I can feel where the vibe is mostly flowing and how I can manipulate people and situations) There are more incidents, but I don't remember them at the moment, but these are some of my indicators that make me thing I may be one of those psychic/highly empathic people more

Resolved Question: Why is my 1999 Audi a4 rattling, shutting off when i slow down and leaking coolant?

I recently went to a Midas auto repair shop with the same complaint and they said I needed a new air flow meter, and a spark plug tune-up. I had the work done and for about 2 days it was fine, but then it started to shut off again when I came to a light or stop. Also, my coolant light indicator keeps going off and when i look under the hood it is low. I would say I am refilling it every few days. Sometimes there is a little puddle of liquid, but what i want to know is if the issues i have are all related and what exactly i should do about all of it. Thanks for all and any answers! It is greatly appreciated! :)The engine isn't overheating (as far as I can see), and also when I turn off the a/c it stops shutting off at stop lights or when I slow down. more

Resolved Question: Do you believe Amnesty for “illegal aliens” is driving immigrants to break our Immigration laws?

Rumors of "Amnestia" again drive illegal alien traffic north Huachuca, AZ August 21, 2009---While overall Border Patrol apprehensions and illegal traffic appear to be down across the Southwestern US, rumors of "amnestia" are once again driving illegal aliens to El Norte. It happens every year and there is usually a delay from the time the media starts talking about “immigration reform” again to when the illegal traffic begins to increase. With President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton paying regular visits to the neighbor next door, it was only a matter of time before the rumor mill got all wound up and the word reached the fields of Oaxaca. Today, with DHS Secretary Napolitano all but promising immigration reform to an assembled collection of more than 100 pro amnesty groups, businesses and Law Enforcement Associations at the White House, we are certain to see an increase in traffic heading illegally into the US. Unlike previous Amnesty surges though, these future democrats will be greeted by twice the number of Border Patrol Agents and a border fortified with stronger fences and more robust defenses. Still, BP cannot be everywhere and many are likely to make it through especially in the more remote areas. Such is the case in the Huachuca Mountains of Southern Arizona where the terrain is treacherous and the traffic hasn’t slowed one bit. On a hidden camera along one such trail, 400 illegal aliens passed by, almost all during the daytime, in the 35 day period between June 20th 2009 and July 25th. The wildlife camera, placed by a citizen border watcher, clearly shows dozens of men, women and yes even small children, navigating this trail with backpacks, water jugs and who knows what else. Were this an isolated case it could perhaps be explained. Sadly, this number has been fairly consistent for the last few months. The border watcher works alone and doesn’t belong to any Minuteman type group. He has been shooting these videos for the past two years, which have also captured on digital film, bears, mountain lions and other assorted wildlife along the same path. His videos have been shown on CNN. The increases in traffic may be an indicator of what is to come. It has also driven Border Patrol to increase its vigilance of that area placing more resources to stop the flow of people and drugs. Still, their resources are not limitless and if they place men, women and materials in the dark recesses of those mountains, another chink in the armor is likely to develop elsewhere. While rumors of a secure border sweep America, another more insistent call has gone out to the third world: Get here while the getting is good! http://www.examiner.com/x-17495-San-Diego-Immigration-Policy-Examiner~y2009m8d20-Rumors-of-Amnestia-again-drive-illegal-alien-traffic-north more

Resolved Question: Illegal aliens are not returning?

Is the crackdown on employers working? Is this proof that raids need to start back up? Do you feel this article calling illegal aliens immigrants is misleading? ######################################################## No signs of immigrants returning home August 17, 2009 3:20 PM BY CESAR NEYOY, BAJO EL SOL If the recession is causing immigrants to return to Mexico, the Mexican consul in Yuma is not seeing any signs of it. Consul Miguel Escobar said that based on the volume of service the Yuma consulate provides to immigrants, they are not returning home in exodus, contrary to predictions a year ago by specialists. "That phenomenon has not materialized," he said. "The truth is that immigrants are not going back to Mexico; the truth is that they remain here and that those who have left (have gone) within a normal pattern. "The indicators of the return rates that we have seen most recently are similar to those in 2006 and 2007. The mass exodus of countrymen who were going to leave the United States because of economic conditions has not occurred." A study by the Pew Hispanic Center in Washington, D.C., found that while the flow of immigrants from Mexico to the United States has dropped in recent years, there is no evidence of a jump in the number of Mexicans returning home. In fact, citing Mexico's National Survey of Occupation and Employment, it said the annual number of returning Mexicans has dropped since 2006. From February 2008 to February 2009, 433,000 immigrants went home from the United States, compared with 440,000 in same period of 2007-08 and 479,000 in 2006-07. "The returns are within a normal pattern," Escobar said. "That overflow of countrymen returning to Mexico hasn't happened." The study found that the Mexican immigrant population in the United States reached 11.5 million in the first half of this year, Escobar said, but that is "not significantly different" than the 11.6 million in 2008 and the 11.2 million in 2007. The recession and economic crisis are relative to the immigrants, he said, and for many of them, returning to Mexico would be "going from a bad situation to a not very good situation." http://www.yumasun.com/news/immigrants-52218-returning-mexico.html more

Resolved Question: Why aren't Republicans jubilant about the recession being over? Why do they hate America?

Could our long national nightmare be over? The economic contraction, this Great Recession, began in December 2007, and there's no apparent end in sight. As the unemployment rate has spiked, analysts have thrown cold water on Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's March sighting of "green shoots." The stock market's spring rally has fizzled. But in this season of doubt, I'm prepared to declare that the recession is really, most probably over. Why? Well, it's not because the economists surveyed by the Wall Street Journal believe it'll end in this quarter. (These guys wouldn't know an economic inflection point if it hit them upside the head. All through 2008, when the economy was contracting, they projected growth for the year.) No, two of the best and most objective forecasters, who are not connected to investment banks or to the CNBC noise machine, have recently called the upturn. Macroeconomic Advisers, the St. Louis-based consulting firm that compiles a monthly GDP index, reported to its clients Monday that while second-quarter GDP was tracking at negative 0.1 percent (recession), the third quarter was tracking at 2.4 percent growth. The folks at the Economic Cycles Research Institute agree enthusiastically. It's not because they've detected green pea shoots in Central Park. Rather, it's because we've seen the three P's, says Lakshman Achuthan, managing director at ECRI, which has been studying business cycles for decades and was one of the few outfits to call the last two recessions with any degree of accuracy. The economic data that get the most play in the news—unemployment, retail sales—are coincident or lagging indicators and historically have not revealed much about directional changes in the economy. ECRI's proprietary methodology breaks down indicators into a long-leading index, a weekly leading index, and a short-leading index. "We watch for turning points in the leading indexes to anticipate turning points in the business cycle and the overall economy," says Achuthan. It's tough to recognize transitions objectively "because so often our hopes and fears can get in the way." To prevent exuberance and despair from clouding vision, ECRI looks for the three P's: a pronounced rise in the leading indicators; one that persists for at least three months; and one that's pervasive, meaning a majority of indicators are moving in the same direction. The long-leading index—which goes back to the 1920s and doesn't include stock prices but does include measures related to credit, housing, productivity, and profits—hits bottom and starts to climb about six months before a recession ends. The weekly leading index calls directional shifts about three to four months in advance. And the short-leading index, which includes stock prices and jobless claims, is typically the last to turn up. All three are now flashing green. According to Achuthan, the long-leading index growth rate has been recovering since November 2008, the weekly leading index has been recovering since last December, and the short-leading index growth rate bottomed in February 2009. In sequence, each turned up, "and by April the three Ps had all been satisfied." Sure, corporate profits continue to disappoint, and the unemployment rate is climbing. But for ECRI, which navigates by relying exclusively on its instruments, that's only a part of their picture. They're the Spocks of the economic forecasting crowd—unemotional, uninvested in anything but the logic of what history and their dashboard tell them. "From our vantage point, every week and every month our call is getting stronger, not weaker, including over the last few weeks," says Achuthan. "The recession is ending somewhere this summer." In fact, it may already be over. There's plenty of ground for skepticism, in part because the news flow is still quite negative, especially when it comes to corporate profits. ECRI's response? "Indicators are typically judged by their freshness, not their prescience. Since most market-moving numbers are coincident to short leaning, while corporate guidance is often lagging, it is no surprise that analysts do not discern any convincing evidence of an economic upturn." Still, Achuthan warns that one of the most important indicators—employment—isn't showing recovery yet. The reason: The combination of deleveraging and the long-term decline of manufacturing is hindering job creation and destroying existing jobs. After the last recession ended in 2001, the service sector created jobs, but payroll employment continued to fall through 2003 because millions of jobs were lost in the manufacturing sector during the expansion. "We may see some echo of that in this recovery." But while employment is vital, payroll jobs growth alone doesn't make the difference between recession and expansion. "We've always felt that employment is very important, but it's a roughly coincident indicator," said Achuthan. "We would not expect the employment indicators to behttp://www.newsweek.com/id/206631 more

Voting Question: Why have my pre-menstrual symptoms stopped?

The main pre-menstrual symptom that I used to get was really sore breasts. It stopped about two or three periods ago. I'm happy the pain and discomfort have ceased, but can anyone tell me why this might have happened? My period flow itself has changed too. Fewer cramps (hooray!) but lighter flow for a few more days. I'm trying to conceive and am worried. The pre symptoms were always my indicator that my period would soon start and I'd be prepared for it. Now I have no clue as my period isn't sticking to its usual timetable at all. The doctor was useless. He told me to go home and observe for two months. Whenever I've been to the doc (any doc) about menstrual irregularities they've always told me it's normal and to go home and come back later if I want. I go back a few months later and they tell me to go home again. Why did this have to happen now that I'm trying to have a baby after waiting for almost three years of our marriage? more

Resolved Question: A Magnavox 50ML8105D/17 DLP T.V. that seems to have a bad bulb?

I'm trying to help a friend out that has a Magnavox DLP TV that is no longer working. She came home shortly after a thunderstorm in the area and discovered that the picture on her TV was out. I went over to look at it. The sound works but no screen at all. TheTV powers on and you can hear a buzzing (I figure thats electric flow to the bulb trying to get it to illuminate) for a short time then the power cuts off and the lamp indicator turns red. Probably a new bulb is needed? Wheres the best place to get one?O.K. so how hard is it to replace a bulb? I can buy a "bare" bulb for a lot less than a bulb that comes in the housing. How hard is it to get the bulb seated correctly in the housing? Anybody something like this? more

Resolved Question: Tubal pregnancy question?

Ok, I found out that I was pregnant on the 11th of July. I went to my doc today cause I have had a cyst since the 1st of July. Since then they have said I have something called "the ring of fire" where the blood flow in my ovary looks like a ring of fire when they use that setting. So they did a U/S today and a blood test. On Friday I had a blood test done my numbers were 152. This was at 11 pm at night. Today they were 258. Of course it is to early to find the embryo on the U/S cause I am only 4 weeks today. They said that the cyst and the "ring of fire" is a indicator that I have a tubal pregnancy. They said I have to WAIT. Thursday I have a follow up blood test and U/S. I really have no pain and am a nervous wreck. I need to know if at this point I will have pain, and if anyone knows about this "ring of fire" they are speaking of? At this point will it hurt to press on the area where my tubes are or will I have no pain at all? I am so confused and lost. I did not think I was at risk for a tubal. They really didn't clearify anything and I have to wait till Thursday, and they still may not be able to diagnose anything. Please help me with any information at all. I am looking for a reason to keep faith. I had a really bad miscarriage in Feb. 2009. Saw the baby in my uterus at 8 weeks then a few days later started bleeding and ended up having to have a DnC and losing a lost of blood and having a transfusion. I just want to know any symptoms of a 4 week tubal pregnancy. Do your hormone levels rise normally? Does it hurt at 4 weeks to press on you tubes? Has anyone heard of the "ring of fire" where the ovary had a lot of blood flow? Please Help me. Sorry this is so long. more

Resolved Question: Is this good criteria for value investing?

First, let me just say that I'm 15. So before you go on making fun of me remember that Im only 15. Ok, here are the criteria... Low P/E Ratio (bottom 10% of sector) PEG of less than one Debt to Equity Ratio of less than one (To see that they're not in debt) Price to Book Ratio of less than one Around 6% - 12% average growth over past 5-6 years Share price is 66% or less of intrinsic value (I calculate this with CURRENT assets minus TOTAL liabilities) The ability to pay off total debt within one year (net income minus total liabilities) Return On Equity of at least 17% for past five years Return On Capital of at least 17% for past five years (Should be about the same as Return On Equity) Pre-Tax profit margin being 20% more than industry average (average for past five years and I used pre-tax because of many companies are in different tax brackets which messes up the whole algorithm...) Pre-Tax profit margin must also be at least 20% on top of the 1.2X above industry average criteria Income per employee more that 10% than industry average (I think that this is a good indicator of good management) A moderately (or widely) prevalent product/Brand name Market cap over $1 billion (I don't know why, I just feel safer with relatively larger market caps) Are these good criterion? I think they are, but I can't find any companies with such specifications... I guess I'll have to wait until comes along. Also, can someone explain "Free Cash Flow". I've heard this in a lot of places but I'm still confused about it... Thank you more

Resolved Question: Why didn't replacing the water pump and thermostat on my 1996 Subaru Outback solve the problem?

My car was leaking water because of a leaking water pump. Yesterday I had it replaced with a new water pump and a new thermostat. It ran well afterwards. But since disassembly caused some transmission fluid to leak; I took a drive to the parts store afterwards to pick some up. On my way back to the house from the parts store, less than ¼ mile, it got really hot, and quickly got to the limit. Since I had only 2 blocks left I drove it to the house and then shut it off. I called the mechanic to come back, we started it a few times, the temp was normal at first. But after letting it run for a while, or revving the engine a little bit; it got hot again. Each time, about 3 times, when the indicator was ¾ way up on the gauge, we shut it off. We let it cool for the next 5 hours, and the mechanic came back to investigate the situation. The car would not start. And based how the water was churning with the radiator cap off, he concluded that the head gaskets needed to be replaced. I would appreciate if someone can tell me what happened and why this parts replacement did not go off without a hitch. Right now I am looking at replacing the head gaskets, $54.99 X 2, or replacing all of seals, known as a headset for $283.00. I am fortunate that he is only charging me a minimal amount for the labor. What caused the head gaskets to become damaged? Was it the heat or that with the new pump and thermostat there was better water flow and therefore more pressure? The following links might tell some of the story. I can not tell who is best informed. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=subaru+outback+overheats+after+changing+water+pump+and+thermostat&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq= http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums/showthread.php?s=6b7bd15c88b83d482202580d70ca4dcf&postid=158875#post158875 http://answers.edmunds.com/question-98-Subaru-Outback-overheating-Water-radiator-cool-hot-engine-Thermostat-replaced-fans-working-38030.aspx http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081130050024AA0jNKD http://www.fixya.com/cars/t645025-1997_subaru_outback_legacy_overheating (the car had only overheated slightly sometimes while the old water pump was in the car and leaking) more
