Open Question: Can you help me edit my class president speech?

One Vision, One Student Body, A Lifetime of Change Spending my seventh grade year at Townsend Junior High School has been one of the greatest and most beneficial experiences of my life. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to be going to such a wonderful school. Now, I would like to be Townsend’s president. I hope I can do many things to help all of Townsend reach its full potential. I want to be Townsend’s president because it is such an amazing school, and I would like to make it even better. Townsend is already one of the best schools, but there is always room for improvement. Together, we can make it the greatest school. Also, I want the exciting experience of becoming president of Townsend. I think it’s going take a person who will lead the effort. I feel very strongly about making Townsend a fantastic place to attend. I want to leave a mark at this school, and change it for the better. Years of our lives are spent at Townsend, and I would like to make those years memorable. This year, I am in Leadership. It has been such an amazing and exciting experience. It has given me so much insight into being a leader, organizing events, and learning to work well with others. In Leadership, you learn very much about knowing your priorities and deciding what is best for others and yourself. I’ve dealt with many problems, dilemmas, and situations where I’ve had to make hard decisions. It has been a life-changing experience. Dealing with deadlines and interacting with other people has showed me that communication and teamwork are really important. I understand that I must rely on others and listen to improve my skills in all areas. As a student at Townsend Junior High, I understand the pressures of middle school. I hear everything that students have to say about Townsend. In this way, I can be an even better president. I can relate to other students as well. I think of being president as being a bridge between the student body and the teachers. I know what other seventh and eighth graders wish to see transformed around the campus and in learning techniques. We can make changes as necessary throughout the school. This can help everyone progressively in many ways. There are numerous ways in which we can improve Townsend. Some of them I have recently heard around the school grounds. I have heard multiple people talking about how they wish to listen to music while running the mile. Music is a proven way to make you feel better and more energized, and as president I will try to meet this need. In addition, I would like more people to participate in spirit days. To do this, I will ensure that we have a wide range of spirit days that a majority of the school will participate in. I also want people to enjoy all the rallies and assemblies, and I will try my best to make them even better. I want people to be interested and involved, and I’m willing to go the distance to motivate our school to be active in all events. On a personal note, I have many experiences with being confident and having to do out-of-the-ordinary things. I ride dirt bikes, sand rails, and quads. I often travel with my family and friends to various places. In fact, I will be going to Japan this summer with a program founded by one of our presidents! I’ll come back with even more experience and knowledge about international cultures. I would like to thank the entire student body and the teachers for considering me as one of your Townsend Junior High candidates for president, especially the Leadership class. I want to plan more things for the students, so that Townsend Junior High isn’t just a place where we have to work hard and plan for the future, but also a place where we can have fun, enjoy the moment, and share a little school spirit. I hope that, together, we can make Townsend the “best in the west!” more

Voting Question: I need help naming my essay!?

My persuasive essay is about leadership in the movie Remember the Titans. It answers the question: Who is a better leader? Coach Boone or Coach Yoast? I'm having some major problems with naming it. This is my essay: "Win or lose… We gonna walk out of this stadium tonight with our heads held high. Do your best. That's all anybody can ask for." Leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal. In the movie Remember the Titans, based on a true story, Alexandria's schools are integrating and three high schools are brought together as one. An African-American replaces a white coach as the head football coach and throughout the movie, their leadership skills and character are challenged as they both face obstacles. Previously, Coach Boone was fired from his head coach position, with the school board claiming that “it was not ready for a black head coach.” Three years later, he is offered the head coach position and Coach Yoast becomes an assistant coach, initially protesting because he does not want to work under a black coach. Although both coaches are great leaders and have played a major role in the Titans' success, Coach Boone displays better leadership. He has the ability to bring out the best in people and he never gives up, facing racism with a strong head-on attitude. He always treats everybody fairly, demanding the best from everybody, regardless of their skin colour. The strongest leaders of the world all have the ability to bring out the best in people. Coach Boone is a better leader, because of his strong persistence in making everybody on the team respect each other and coaxing their best qualities out of them. Without this important quality, the Titans would not have played like a team. Instead, they would have only looked out for themselves, like the way Julius Campbell acts like when he first starts out in football camp. At football camp, Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell become best friends (even calling each other blood brothers when Julius visits Gerry in the hospital) and they become more open-minded, realizing that nothing could separate blacks and whites. Coach Boone constantly demands perfection, continually raising the Titans' standards. He is very harsh, forcing his players to get past the strong mental barriers they have implanted in their heads with demanding warm-ups and practices. This is shown in football camp when the whistle is blown and Coach Boone asks, "What is pain?" and the football players respond with French bread. During one of the football games, he gives Ronnie 'Sunshine' Bass a speech, in which he says that his siblings needed him when his parents died and the team needs Sunshine tonight to make the pitch. Encouraged, Sunshine wins the game for the Titans. While bringing out the best in his players, he teaches the team to never give up and to fight for what you believe in. A characteristic of a great leader is treating everybody fairly. When Coach Yoast takes aside Petey Jones and gives him a patronizing talk that encourages him to play better, Coach Boone says that although he is a mean cuss, he's the same mean cuss to everybody. "You ain't doin' these boys a favor by patronizing them. You crippling them; you crippling them for life," he says to Coach Yoast and that could not be more true. The world and the people in it are not there to satisfy the role of Patronizing Encourager. They have to learn that there is no limit and that only they (nobody else) can make their dream attainable and fulfill all their goals. Coach Boone does not coddle any of his football players and teaches them how to fend for themselves and to be tough. An example of Coach Boone treating everybody the same and not giving any preferential behavior to the black football players (like Gerry Bertier initially thinks) is when Petey is playing badly in the first Titans game. Coach Boone yells at him, "You're killing me, Petey! You're killing me!" Another good example is the harsh football camp that Coach Boone runs to eliminate football players. There is no difference in the way he treats people of different race. When Blue Stanton says he's tired and they need a water break, Boone says that they'll do up-downs until Blue isn't tired or thirsty. People might say that Coach Boone is too harsh and that treating everybody fairly does not make or break a leader. However, Boone believes that the only way to improve someone is to harden him or her and that this constructive criticism given by Coach Yoast only weakens them, providing them little defense in the real world. Coach Boone displays strong leadership and strong leadership does not crumble under pressure. Weak leadership, however, does. To be a strong leader, you must not give preferential treatment or inflict bias on anybody. Coach Boone, unlike Coach Yoast, does not see skin colour like the other coaches do; he only sees football players and skin colour does not come into his decision toSorry, the essay got cut off. It's too long. =.= But you should get the basic gist of it. more

Resolved Question: All Christians seem to agree, God loves everyone. So why are Boy Scouts America . . .?

against allowing gay and atheist people into their organization? I mean, they want to make boys grow up to be a strong leader, to be a strong athlete, to have good characters . . . I don't get it, why shouldn't atheists and gay deserve to be part of it? Are they afraid that they'll be training these morally inapt scum of the Earth to be effective leaders in the future? . . . oh: "The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. In the first part of the Scout Oath or Promise the member declares, ‘On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law.’ The recognition of God as the ruling and leading power in the universe and the grateful acknowledgment of His favors and blessings are necessary to the best type of citizenship and are wholesome precepts in the education of the growing members." -Bylaws of the BSA, Declaration of Religious Principle They have the right to be prejudice, I guess, being they are private organization. But what about the gay people? "Boy Scouts of America believes that homosexual conduct is inconsistent with the obligations in the Scout Oath and Scout Law to be morally straight and clean in thought, word, and deed. The conduct of youth members must be in compliance with the Scout Oath and Law, and membership in Boy Scouts of America is contingent upon the willingness to accept Scouting’s values and beliefs. Most boys join Scouting when they are 10 or 11 years old. As they continue in the program, all Scouts are expected to take leadership positions. In the unlikely event that an older boy were to hold himself out as homosexual, he would not be able to continue in a youth leadership position." . . . bastards. more

Resolved Question: No longer disbanding, but parting ways with founding mentors. What to say & do?

A bit long but please bear with me, it boils down to 3 simple questions in the end. A fuller view of my situation can be found here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Agr.tSvKC970Y4TWpGoxDjzsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100302165531AASyBjL Our theatre company started in late 2008 and has dwindled down since mid last year. The main problem was that we were mostly 19-year-old-know-nothing-college-students recruited by a set of wannabe pastors who wanted a lot of hype, and I ended up responsible for this organization I never really wanted to join. However, we managed to agree on some mutual values and envision what this organization stands for (i.e. to pool together young aspiring artists in a fun and creative environment which emphasizes a character of integrity, commitment, and competence; so that one day they grow up to become influential professionals who endorse the right values in society), and because of that, for most of this org's existence I've been leading it passionately as president. I'm an inexperienced 24 year old (was 23 then) who took performing arts major in my fifth attempt at college because I wasn't in a position to have a go at in high school; but I know I'm never ever going to be a professional performer. I mostly relied on my conceptualizing, leadership, and communication skills in directing this org. People tend to trust me to lead things because I'm charismatic, intelligent, confident, care deeply about the world around me and am willing to take risks to make it a better place. Nevertheless, I had very little influence in creating a proper understanding in the minds of my teammembers of what this org stands for (despite having written organizational charts and hours of visioneering meetings with subdivision leaders), and very little authority to excercise work ethics and discipline. I delivered very little and it's eating up my self confidence. Now this founding couple we're leaving is a businesswoman who sells apartments near my campus and her husband pastors a wannabe church. No performing arts experience! They always talk about these big fluffy dreams the average person has no chance of attaining, claiming that with God everything is possible and that faith is all about believing that God gives you the power to attain things bigger than you as long as you put Him first. They take credit for helping us magnify our capacities, become independent and accountable. However, in hindsight, I honestly believe that they're cheapos preying on eager, naive students who would work for free in order to expand their business and ministry, which they have trouble differentiating one from the other. If their main concern was really the morality and carnality of the young generation, then they would invest a lot of time in helping us properly building our foundations: long term vision, day to day mission and objectives, concrete definition of core values, and basic skills like financial management and healthy boundaries. But instead of these, they're scheduling hype: battles of bands, singles' night out, hip hop dances with fireworks--which they keep recruiting new people for and have no idea how to follow up. And they expect me to MC these shows and send a team of my kids to support them. I feel so cheated. Since this couple isn't communicating--well, they talk to me while working on a laptop, or have other friends around when I want to get to the nitty gritty over lunch--I've concluded that the issue is not them being an imperfect leader, but rather their lack of good character and trustworthiness. Due to my lack of authority without the endorsement of a senior couple, I have seriously considered disbanding because we simply can't exist without one, and I have more important things to do. However, this does not reflect my commitment to the vision, as this very same vision always recurs in my life no matter what I do. At the last minute, the five members remaining onboard insisted that we carry out without the pastor wannabes and part with them on good terms. Our next step is discussing our team's purpose, envisioning the kind of cultural movement we plan to initiate, translating those in terms of daily activities and attainable achievements, and networking to find a new senior couple to replace the one we're leaving. This new couple must be a couple who cares about, prays for, and are actively taking action to reestablish righteous moral values, accountability, community life, pride in tradition, loyalty and dedication, and true artisanship in the lives of young aspiring artists. They should have experience as a performing artist themselves, and preferrably pastor a real church (not a wannabe one!) or are involved in some type of discipleship ministry, but know how to implement the principles in a secular context. (We're NOT a Christian org, but most people in our Southeast Asian society believe in God and practice a religion.)1. How do I say a final goodbye to our first mentor couple and leave them no room to "give us another chance"? I just want to thank them for the initiative but make it clear that we can no longer work together, and hope that this doesn't affect our friendship. What if I can't reach them in person? 2. How do I step down from leadership A.S.A.P? Nobody else in the current team is ready to takeover, and I am underequipped to bring this team's vision to fruition. I'm getting married, and have other obligations like finding a real job so I can support myself. However, I want this org to make it and feel responsible for laying down the foundations leaving it to a deserving leader. 3. What needs to be in the organization chart, and how to make a volunteer organization actually buy into this? Who should, and how are rules to be enforced while we have no senior couple in the meantime to mentor us and edify the president's authority? Thoughtful solutions appreciated! Thank you for reading :) more

Resolved Question: HELP EDIT MY PROLOGUE WRITERS HELP?

i posted this earlier, but messed up, so here it is again, cut so it fits. hopefully this won't give away too much of my story, but here it is. please rate it or tell me what it needs- thanks and don't be mean, just give me advice THE NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED thanks The boy ran. His adrenalin pumping, he sped down the street, the only noises being those of his own breath, coming fast now, his feet thumping rhythmically on the concrete. His heart beat in his ears, the pulse sounding like drums, beating faster and faster. Light glinted off of white hair as he ran- unnatural white hair, and his wide amber eyes searched every alley as he passed; this night was one of fear, of survival. So many times he’d walked down this street just a normal citizen. So many nights he’d crossed it without disruption- but this night, this night was different. There were others, too- several behind him and a few scrabbling across the low, flat rooftops of the buildings fencing in the street, and these were just a few of them- the gang had broken into several smaller unions that night, searching the city for one that they had called a friend. They moved silently, afraid of every noise, for each and every one of them could sense that something was different, that something had happened. He’d always been close to Mikey Denore, the missing boy. Always been his partner in crime, and Mikey had always spoken fondly of him. Spoken for him in times of need- Denore was not the only one that believed the boy would have served better as leader- many had spoken in hushed tones about it, none quite ready to show their opinion to John Conall. He’d lead them for only a short time, his responsibility handed down from a higher authority with little thought as to what would become of it. Conall was intelligent, somewhat, but when it came to making good decisions he never did what needed to be done. “Tim, up here,” called one of the other boys, and the white-haired boy turned, reaching his hands up to accept the palm of the other boy, who pulled him onto the ledge and then up onto the roof. Several feet away, Conall glared at him through squinted, sharp eyes. While Conall was strong, Tim was fast. While Conall was iron-willed, Tim was graceful and flexible. And while Conall was cold and calculating, Tim was forgiving. His eyes alone reflected more knowledge and understanding than Conall could fit into his brain- and no matter what Conall battered Tim with, the other boys stood behind him and him alone, with no thought or exchange of words. They were naturally drawn to Tim like moths to a flame- and because of this Conall saw him as a threat to his leadership. In truth, the smaller boy did nothing to tamper with Conall or his judgement- rarely did he even speak out of turn. But something about him suggested that he was free to do what he wanted, whenever he wanted. And when Conall would exercise his control over the group by punishing one of it’s members, Tim would be there to comfort. It was his way- but each and every time it drowned out the older boy’s newfound stature. On this strange night, Tim recalled thinking it suspicious, that they had been called off of the road. He stood, silently watching the others climb up after him with brooding amber eyes. The boy who had helped him up, Anthony, peered at Conall from under his mop of black hair, his expression dark and distrustful. “Come on,” the older boy said gruffly, and silently the gang moved across the rooftops- Tim glanced into the street and thought he saw someone there- pausing, he looked closer, realizing that there was someone there- a girl, lying by the curb, unconscious. Something inside of him clicked like a little bell ringing in his head, and he jumped from the roof. “Hey, Yon, stop!” Anthony reached out to grab the back of his shirt, calling out to him urgently, and all eyes turned on the white-haired boy as he scrambled through the streetlight to kneel beside her. Conall watched with squinted, peering eyes, but before he could stop them, the other boys had followed Tim’s lead, climbing down to join him. The group was small, and for a moment Conall wondered why he could not control them, but as he stared down at the group with angry eyes, he knew that while Tim was there, he would never really have any control- how the group behaved was centered around Tim’s actions, and while most of the time he followed loyally, the occasions that he did not were growing more and more numerous. Something had to be done about him. “What’s wrong?” the others asked him as they clambered for a place about him, but he brought his fingers to his lips urgently. After seeing the girl they fell silent with understanding, and Tim turned back to her. He shook her gently. “Hello? . . . Hey, are you okay? . . . she’s out cold.” Her head rolled listlessly- she was his age, maybe younger, with short orange hair and a pale complexion. After a moment of silence, the other gang members peppered Tim with questions of solicitude, so many that it made him chuckle under his breath. “Is she breathing?” “She has a pulse.” “What’s her temperature?” “She’s cold, but not that cold.” “Where’d she come from?” “I don’t know.” “How’d you see her?” “Wasn’t she kind of obvious?” “Watcha gonna do with her?” “Well, I- WE can’t leave her here. I think this... I think this is right. I mean, she... she doesn’t look familiar to any of you?” The gang member’s eyes swelled with concern as Tim lifted her into his arms, staggering up, and when one of his knees gave in momentarily he felt five sets of hands on his shoulders ensuring that he didn’t fall. “We’ll take her to a friend.” “Which one?” “The one who owns Usher.” “No!” hissed Conall ferociously. “We have to report! Leave her, we don’t know where she’s been.” Tim looked up at the other boy, feeling a twinge of anger. “You want me to leave her here?” more

Resolved Question: How's this scene from my novel? thank you?

hopefully this won't give away too much of my story, but here it is. please rate it or tell me what it needs- thanks and don't be mean, just give me advice THE NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED thanks The boy ran. His eyes alone reflected more knowledge and understanding than Conall could fit into his brain- and no matter what Conall battered Yon with, the other boys stood behind him and him alone, with no thought or exchange of words. Hey, are you okay? . . . she’s out cold.” Her head rolled listlessly- she was his age, maybe younger, with short orange hair and a pale complexion. Resolved Question: Christians: Jesus is a false messiah?

1)The Sanhedrin will be re-established (Isaiah 1:26) -Considering the Sanhedrin was still around in Jesus' time I don't know how it could be re-established. 2)Once he is King, leaders of other nations will look to him for guidance. (Isaiah 2:4) -Nope, never was a king and only ignorant people looked to him for guidance. 3)The whole world will worship the One G-d of Israel (Isaiah 2:17) -Still not happening. There is still Hinduism, Wicca, Zoroastrianism, Animism, Atheism, etc. 4)He will be descended from King David (Isaiah 11:1) via King Solomon (1 Chron. 22:8-10) -According to Judaism you can only get your lineage from your biological father's side, so if Joseph wasn't his biological father according to Christians, then well, you get my point..... 5)The Moshiach will be a man of this world, an observant Jew with "fear of G-d" (Isaiah 11:2) -Jesus claimed to be G-d, and he broke the Sabbath Law, so I wouldn't consider him very observant. 6)Evil and tyranny will not be able to stand before his leadership (Isaiah 11:4) -Nope, the Romans handled the situation without much trouble. 7)Knowledge of G-d will fill the world (Isaiah 11:9) -Still not everyone has heard of the G-d of Avraham, or they haven't read the entire Bible *cough MOST Christians cough*. 8)He will include and attract people from all cultures and nations (Isaiah 11:10) -Many people didn't and still don't like Jesus. 9)All Israelites will be returned to their homeland (Isaiah 11:12) -Considering the Israelites were all in Israel (Judea) in Jesus' day, I don't know how they could return if they were already there. 10)Death will be swallowed up forever (Isaiah 25:8) -Last time I checked, people still die everyday. 11)There will be no more hunger or illness, and death will cease (Isaiah 25:8) -Once again, people still die. And look no further than Africa for the hunger or illness issue. 12)All of the dead will rise again (Isaiah 26:19) -Nah, dead people are still dead. 13)The Jewish people will experience eternal joy and gladness (Isaiah 51:11) -Ask Hitler or the Romans if they experienced joy and gladness. 14)He will be a messenger of peace (Isaiah 52:7) -Nope, Jesus said in order to be his follow, you must hate your father, mother, brothers, sisters, wife, kids, even your own life. (Luke 14:26) 15)Nations will end up recognizing the wrongs they did to Israel (Isaiah 52:13-53:5) -Rome never cared, and Muslim countries still don't like Israel. 16)The peoples of the world will turn to the Jews for spiritual guidance (Zechariah 8:23) -Nah, Christians still think the Jews don't understand their OWN prophecies and religion. Christians think they know everything there is to know. 17)The ruined cities of Israel will be restored (Ezekiel 16:55) -Once again, if they were still there in the time of Jesus, how could they have be restored. 18)Weapons of war will be destroyed (Ezekiel 39:9) -Hiroshima and Nagasaki anyone? 19)The Temple will be rebuilt (Ezekiel 40) resuming many of the suspended mitzvots. -If the Temple was already there in Jesus' time, how could it have been rebuilt. Heck, it was still there 35-odd years AFTER his death. 20)He will then perfect the entire world to serve G-d together (Zephaniah 3:9) -Atheists and many people still don't serve the G-d of Avraham. 21)Jews will know the Torah without study (Jeremiah 31:33) -Considering they still study, I don't see where Jesus did a good job in this department. 22)He will give you all the desires of your heart (Psalms 37:4) -I still don't have my Lamborghini. 23)He will take the barren land and make it abundant and fruitful (Isaiah 51:3, Amos 9:13-15, Ezekiel 36:29-30, Isaiah 11:6-9). -Most of Israel is still desert. *****Note: This must all be accomplished in a MORTAL lifetime. Resolved Question: What do you think of this english paper? and how can i make it better?

In William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Cassius leads the assassination of Caesar in an attempt to seize control of Rome. He bids for power against Brutus and Antony, two very prominent men. Brutus has an exemplary reputation, though he is willing to do whatever it takes to better the Roman empire. The ambitious Antony’s gift is his sublime oration, which he uses in his attempt to avenge Caesar. Cassius’ talents lie in more subtle means – he manipulates other people to do his bidding. His ruthlessness matches his ambition, as he goes so far as to murder the emperor of Rome in his rise to prominence. Though he finds himself at the pinnacle of Roman politics through these means, they draw him ever nearer to his undoing at the fields of Philippi. Cassius’ success as a politician and leader stems from his ruthless ambition, and manipulative abilities. Though no great orator like Antony or Brutus, Cassius still possesses great tact, possibly even more so than his counterparts. Where Antony and Brutus must win the people to their side in order to enact their agenda, Cassius operates covertly, using bribery and deception to fulfill his intent. Brutus and Antony fight for control of the public, while Cassius aims to control the public heads. The key to Cassius’ success in this mission is perception. When attempting to sway Brutus to his side, he finds what Brutus holds sacrosanct, and uses it to gain leverage in persuading him to join the conspirator’s cause. In a letter to Brutus, Cassius asks, “Shall Rome stand under one man's awe? What, Rome? /My ancestors did from the streets of Rome /The Tarquin drive, when he was call'd a king” (I.i.52-54). Cassius recognizes that what truly matters to Brutus is the people of Rome, and the well-being of the Roman state. Having identified this, he baits Brutus to his cause while quietly mentioning the deposition of a ruler through the example of Tarquin the Proud. Though Cassius lacks the aura of heroism that surrounds Antony and Brutus, his leadership style is more effective. Cassius uses ruthlessness to gain success and to shield against retribution. Where others are morally obstructed from their pursuit of power, Cassius is willing to do what must be done. Cassius wants ultimate authority and Caesar obstructs his passage to this lofty goal. Caesar takes notice of Cassius’ “lean and hungry look,” (I.ii.194), but Cassius takes action before Caesar can act upon his notion, and ends Caesar’s reign. After assassinating the dictator, he decides Antony should share such a fate. As Niccolo Machiavelli says, “the harm one does to a man must be such as to obviate any fear of revenge” (Machiavelli 16). Cassius recognizes this principle’s merits, and seeks to act upon it in accordance with his character, but is stopped by Brutus, who states that We shall be called purgers, not murderers. And for Mark Antony, think not of him; For he can do no more than Caesar’s arm When Caesar’s head is off. (II.i.180-183) Cassius denies his instinct and accepts Brutus’ morality, giving Antony a platform from which he sways the favor of the people of Rome from the side of the conspirators, to sympathy for Caesar. This marks the beginning of the end for the conspirators, and launches the civil war in which Cassius kills himself. Cassius proves that politics have no relation to morals. With no internal hindrance to his bid for power, Cassius becomes the head of Roman government. He brings the hero of the people, Brutus, to his cause and assassinates Caesar. For a short while he leads the “Populus Romanus” through Brutus, and when he meets his demise it is due to war caused by Brutus’ morality. The Bible says “God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he shall also reap” (Galatians 6:7). Accordingly, the people turn on Cassius and he murders himself during the civil war. Cassius scattered seeds of malice and deceit, and so died on his own blade.the MLA format is fine in word, and i have to do the biblical application crap because my teacher's an ignorant dumbass more

Resolved Question: EX Jehovah's Witness reading the Bible & learning more history of it I'm agnostic I think almost atheist?Guilt?

I am not sure what to do I feel so guilty I do believe in God but the more I learn about the Bible and the horrible things God did killing children and because of what their parents did? This is a good thing? For instance the example of when the Jews made the calf out of gold and worshiped it. Moses came down from the mountain and has even the children even the babies killed as well as the parents. Why? Did the children really even know what they were doing? No, right? All we have to do is look at our own children to see that they would not understand what was really happening they were just having fun and dancing, to a child's mind. Yet they were slaughtered? Besides was not Moses wrong for leaving without proper leadership in place? Would God not have known about improper leaders in place before Moses left to write out God's commandments? These children just at this part of the Bible could have been raised by others? Correct? Even if the parents were sentenced to death. I saw this acted out once at an assembly of Jehovah's Witnesses as a child and it always seemed so wrong. I left when I grew up and grew a mind. But the more I learn about the Bible and the Council of Nicea choosing the divinity of Christ almost put to vote whether Christ was just a man and prophet of a divine being. I believe God is love. I believe in science and that God allows evolution to happen as part of creation. My mother also a former JW encouraged science and learning. She always wanted to be an archaeologist but became a nurse instead which she gave up when she became a JW with the rest of the family. Would God really want you to give up your life and dreams, education, work, to go door to door. I only got to go to the second grade in school before my parents pulled me out to save my soul. Now I am left with emptiness and sorrow and my parents have broken hearts because of doing what they thought was right at the time. No one in the family are JW's anymore. I sorry to go one like this but I am so confused and I wonder what I am religiously because if God exists God is really a HE/SHE spirit being . So maybe I am not atheist but I really do not know what to feel except guilty and let down. I am not slamming the JW's at all their faith is theirs. That's fine. I am almost forty going to school finally online and feel lost. Has anyone felt like this? Unsure about God? I am so sorry this is so long. I just got emotional while writing, sorry. I have been up all night studying. I just felt scared that I would be punished or my family if I do not believe anymore. Or believe something other than the Bible about God and Jesus. If anyone could make sence of my emotional babble any thoughts, please? To Maryjane: I wasn't sure what you meant about not believing my parents only let me go through school to the 2nd grade. It is true. Why would I lie? That is actually embarrassing to admit. We lived in the high desert of the California mountains so no one questioned my education if you mean someone would have known and told some kind of official. No, I really don't believe people make up shamefully embarrassing stuff about themselves. Especially on a almost anonymous website? Makes no sence at all if that is what you meant. My parents did believe it was right. I am NOT blaming Jehovah's Witnesses this is not about them. Their faith is theirs. I leave that alone. Also it is not easy to be an adult to be almost 40, only just a few months to go till 40, and go back to school with a very small education except for reading and what my Mother taught me on her own. I am proud of going to school at my age it was not easy as I said. no one would make that up.Maryjane I just read the edit to your answer. I did not blame the JW's at all. I did not blame my parents. I did not address this to Jehovah's Witnesses at all. i addressed this AS an EX Jehovah's Witness who now needed spiritual guidence because I felt lost and extremely cofused about my belief in God, Jesus, and the Bible. As to whether I am agnostic and my fears about that. If you are a JW and I do not know if you are or not please do not be insulted by my question. I am sorry for any confusion. This was not any attempt to hurt anyone or hurt anyones faith or religion faith at all. I was looking for answers. more

Resolved Question: My top 10 players of the decade?

1.Shaq- His prime was just too dominant. From 2000-2002 he was the best player in the league and he was the leader of the only non-Jordan or Russell led 3peat. He remained a top 3 player in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In those "decline" years he'd average 28/11 in 2003, make it to the finals in '04(where he'd averaged 27/11 on 63% shooting) and nearly win MVP in '05. Then the following year he averaged 20/9/2/2 60 FG% in less than 31 mpg on a 4th championship team. The following year he was still a good player when healthy as he led Miami to a 19-7 record without Wade. In 2008 he averaged about 13/11 on 61% shooting in limited minutes after the trade to Phoenix and in 2009 he made the all-star team averaging 18/8 on 61% shooting in 30 mpg. He had the incredible peak, 3 extra dominant prime years an additional superstar year on a championship season and he was never anything less than a very good center through the 2008-2009 season. 2.Duncan- The most consistent superstar this decade, Duncan also had a great peak('02, '03). His accomplishments include 3 NBA championships and 2 MVP awards. He was never anything less than a 19/10 player the entire decade. Despite being better than O'Neal by a wide margin the last 3 years, O'Neal was better the first 3 years, they were on par with eachother from '03-'06 and O'Neal had the better peak plus 1 more title and 2 more finals appearances this decade. 3.Kobe- Kobe has been the best of the top 3 since the 2005-2006 season, but he trails Shaq and Duncan in peak, titles as the number 1 guy and he was inferior every year from 2000 through 2005. 4.Garnett- Possibly a better peak to Bryant, but easily inferior team success and Kobe has been a lot better than Garnett for a few years. 5.Nowitzki- Nobody else outside of the top 5 can make Nowitzki's consistently excellent resume. Three 60 win seasons, an MVP, a finals appearance, nine straight 50 win seasons, quite a few playoff series wins, big playoff performances. Nowitzki is clearly 5. 6.Lebron- Lebron's peak(2009) may be top 3 on the list and his resume is already quite impressive including an MVP, finals appearance and some big playoff performances. What keeps him out of the top 5 is a lack of longevity. Lebron's 2006, 2008 and 2009 seasons are good enough to get him this high, but his other seasons aren't quite good enough to make up for the lack of longevity. 7.Kidd- For the majority of the decade, he was a better player than Nash or Iverson IMO. He'll be known as one of the greatest passers ever, one of the greatest point guards ever, one of the best all around guards ever and the modern king of the triple double. Kidd was also a good defender when he was young as well. Even with Dallas he brings a lot to the table with his passing, basketball IQ, hustle, rebounding and leadership. 8.Iverson- A superstar for most of the decade, Iverson had a very memorable 2001 season and he established himself as one fo the best scorers and little men in NBA history. His toughness is second to none and he doesn't get enough credit for his play in Denver 9.Nash- He didn't maintain his excellence for the entire decade, but he was a solid all-star in Dallas and had 2 MVP type seasons and he played on 3 or 4 championship contenders. 10.Wade- Only 3 healthy seasons, but they were good enough to make him top 3. Those included his memorable sophomore season on a 59 win team and coming out party in the playoffs. The next season was an extension of that as he had one of the greatest finals ever and led his team to a title. He had an amazing year last year, but unfortunately longevity and injuries keep him from being any higher on the list.Hey 'down town brown' you want to debate my points and make your won list, moron? If not, shut the hell up. more

Voting Question: cant we be grateful? 10 points to best answer...?

I'm only a teenager (13 exactly), so please be nice, I don't think I know a lot, but I still have a lot of curiosity about some things...this isn't so much a question as much as a way to get my message across to everyone...just reply something please Can't we be grateful for Obama and what he's trying to do? Think for a moment: With Bush we got into a war, oversaw the collapse of the world economy, the downfall of our own economy, and started losing the war that we started/declared in the first place. With Obama...I think that Obama is very smart and would make an amazing leader in any better time than this. As it is, under Obama's leadership, we are winning the war for the first time in years (actually the only time), we are seeing economic recovery, the jobless rate has dropped, stocks have risen, and although Obama's plans are not working perfectly, he IS helping. And yet, Republicans still complain (not saying anything bad about Republicans. And yes, Democrats complain too) when we are seeing improvement and millions are benefited! Obama has already proven he cares about the people and not politics in his Health Care Reform plan (as Obama said, he obviously did not choose it for good politics). I know that things could get better and recovery is slow, but there is still recovery! If McCain was elected, we would be even worse off, with an economy still in ruins and a war we would still be losing (probably), and then we would be sorry we hadn't elected Mr. Obama. Obama is my idol and I am very grateful he is the president. I am grateful that he is saving our country. No matter how slow its working, its working and its being saved. I would like to remind everyone; Which president has brought us at least some recovery from the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression? Which president helped to make and put into action the strategy that got us to take offensive and start winning the war another president began? Which president has managed to find the time to work on health care reform for the common people? And we are still complaining...I know what the complains are about, but we are asking too much. Thank you Mr. President, And to the readers, please be nice, or at least not insulting. Don't make remarks like "oh your just a teenager, you don't know anything" or "you're right, you don't know much!" Just please try to see my point and tell me if you do in your answer, and then try to "answer" or reply in some way. Thanks for your time. more

Resolved Question: What do U think illegals cost Taxpayers $630M teaching English to illegal immigrant adults?

California taxpayers have shelled out about $630 million over the past dozen years to provide English classes to immigrant adults. The money was required as part of Prop. 227, an anti-bilingual education initiative passed by voters in 1998. The measure, approved by 61 percent of voters, said that public school kids should learn English as quickly and effectively as possible. It was intended to move students with limited English skills into mainstream classes within one year. To help accomplish that goal, the state spent $50 million annually over 10 years to provide free English classes to immigrant parents and others who pledged to tutor kids with limited English proficiency. The state Legislature reauthorized the program in 2006. About $130 million was allocated in the following three fiscal years. The program is slated to receive about $40 million in the 2010-2011 budget. Some question whether the program has worked. Even supporters of bilingual education say the money might be better spent elsewhere. "Perhaps an equally beneficial way to spend that money is to teach teachers Spanish so a 21st Century teacher has the skills to reach all audiences," said Louie Rodriguez, assistant professor of educational leadership and curriculum at Cal State San Bernardino. "In this case, perhaps speaking Spanish would make them a stronger teacher," Rodriguez said. English learners have shown gains on standardized tests in recent years, but educators say there is plenty of room for improvement. "I feel that some of the money should be used to provide daily afterschool English-as-a-Second Language classes for students to learn English more rapidly," said Gil Navarro, a member of the San Bernardino County board of education. Republican lawmakers are also concerned that some of the money is helping parents who are in the country illegally. "It's hard for parents to help their kids with homework if they can't speak English. But at the same time, you can't condone someone who is violating our immigration law," said Robert Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga, the Republican leader-elect in the state Senate. "It's bad public policy to provide public benefits to people who have broken the law and are here illegally." Dutton added that the program needs to be thoroughly evaluated to determine its effectiveness. "If we're just throwing money at it and it's not solving a problem, we need to yank it back in," Dutton said. Assemblyman Steve Knight, R-Palmdale, said kids are being shortchanged because their parents don't try hard enough to learn English. "It's not well-spent money to teach our students' parents how to learn English," said Knight, whose district includes Victorville and the High Desert. "A lot of parents do not speak English at home. A lot of kids go home and are put back in an environment where English is not spoken." Knight said taxpayers would be better served if the money was used to hire tutors to help kids in math, science and English. San Bernardino County school districts received about $3 million a year for the program in the decade after the anti-bilingual education law passed. Local districts now share a total of about $2.5 million a year, which is dispersed based on the number of English learners per district. As a result of the budget crisis, the state now gives districts flexibility to use the money for other purposes if they choose. The San Bernardino City Unified School District gets the largest amount of any district in the county. The district, the seventh largest in the state, received about $600,000 annually for the 10-year period after the law passed. In subsequent years, the district has received about $500,000 annually. Daniel Arellano, the district's director of English learner programs, said the classes are much sought after by parents. More than than 1,000 signed up last year, he said. But the program has suffered from sporadic attendance, making it hard for the district to tell how well it is working, Arellano said. http://www.redlandsdailyfacts.com/sanbernardinocounty/ci_14348084 Is the 300 billion illegals are suppose to pay in taxes strating to take major costly hits ? Resolved Question: Do you always care when your spouse is mad at you?

I don't really care that he's mad right now. Should I feel bad? He asked me if I saw him as the leader in our home. I did not say yes or no. I tried to explain that my view of leadership is not theoretical but practical. He's spent the first four years of our marriage letting me be the breadwinner while he earns money here and there. Everything is in my name, and he's had a major problem with porn. What was he expecting me to say to that silly question??? At least I wasn't mean. Should I go and try to make him feel better, or should I let him finish throwing his tantrum?I want to respect him as a leader with all my heart, but he needs to lead if he wants to be called a leader. I still love him, but I can't call him a leader in good conscious, I'm sorry. He defined leader as someone who make decisions. That's the problem. Making decisions and being irresponsible doesn't go together. more

Resolved Question: How good would Magic Johnson have done IF...?

He didn't have Kareem Abdul Jabbar as his teammate? First off all, some people might pointing out reason why Kareem isn't the greatest Lakers of all time because he didn't win NBA title until Magic came and help him to won it. Factually true but Magic didn't win the title either after Kareem retired, SO what are we talking about here? From Magic's rookie year in 1979-80 through the 1985-86 season, Kareem was the unquestioned leader of the Lakers. Magic didn't even make first team all-NBA until his FOURTH season in the league (1982-83). Magic's fans probably will say he did make the final once but then you being hypocrite, he made it in 1991 yet you guys said the 90's was watered down (Your argument to Jordan's fans). So you get it? And don't tell me HIV was the reason Magic didn't make it to the NBA finals in 1989-1990 (The year when Kareem retired). He was still that GOOD that year, and the fact that Lakers had the best record that year (63-19) just tell you he was still good. Also he won MVP that year, just FYI Magic has 3 MVP's and he won it in 1987, 1989 and 1990 so you get the pattern? He COULDN'T get the MVP while Kareem was still in his prime!!! It wasn't until the 1986-87 season that Pat Riley changed the offense to Magic being the key guy instead of the 40 year old Kareem. But Jabbar was the unquestioned leader of the Lakers until that season. Magic wasn't the "leader" of the Lakers until he was 27 years old. Kareem was the leader of his teams from high school through college through his first 17 years in the NBA. It wasn't until Kareem was 40 years old that Magic took over the leadership of the Lakers. But in play off when it matters the most, where is Magic's leadership? He lost in West semi finals against the Suns? despite having home court advantage? It happened in 1989-1990 play off btw, in case you didn't know. Kareem was all ready retired since the beginning of the 1989 season. Leadership also involves judgment and character. Magic had to retire at age 31 because he was sadly lacking in both areas. On the court, Magic was an amazing player. But with what he did off the court, he might as well have taken a gun into a night club and shot himself in the leg, for all the judgment he showed. And it's not like we didn't know anything about STDs. Magic just thought he was above anything happening to him. The truth is, Kareem was the undisputed captain of the Lakers as well as the greatest Lakers of all time, period.First of all it's the truth. Second, Who hating on Magic? I just don't think he is the greatest Lakers of all time. Read my question again, all of them. "but Magic was clearly the "man" running his team during the 80s." That's just show how brainwashed fans these days are. And I'm talking about Magic Johnson in here, then why did you pointing out about Kareem Abdul Jabbar has the most points because he played 20 years? Stupid answer. Also, Perhaps if you read more NBA history and not just listening the sportcenters, you might learn something. more

Voting Question: How much does Assistant Managers at T-Mobile Retail Store Makes?

I applied for an assistant manager position at T-Mobile. I have 5 years of experience working in fast food and 2 years being a team leader of my team. I also have approximately 3 years of call center experience working with a wireless company as a customer service rep being promoted to retention with some great sales experience. I have a BS degree in communication as well with some leadership abilities. My question is... what is the process of being hired with Tmobile? I have passed their assessment and recruiter will contact me hopefully! What is the Pay for an Asst. Manager Position? What are some of the good benefits? Do you think this is a "In Company" hiring position? From my qualifications, do you feel that I can meet the criteria for this job? more

Voting Question: Religious leadership are they "obscenely" greedy and focus on counterfeit ways to fool people out of money?

January 19, 2010 Obama tells banks: `We want our money back' Obama: Tax banks to recover remaining cost of public's big bailout; President Barack Obama told banks they should pay a new tax to recoup the cost of bailing out foundering firms at the height of the financial crisis. In a brief appearance with advisers at the White House, Obama branded the latest round of bank bonuses as "obscene." “Holy Priest” Obscene in Jesus day over money too, "There is evidence that onetime high priest Annas and his family had a vested interest in the temple merchants. Rabbinic writings speak of "the [temple] Bazaars of the sons of Annas." Revenue from the money changers and from the sale of animals within the temple grounds was one of their main sources of income. One scholar says that Jesus' action in evicting the merchants "was aimed not only at the prestige of the priests but at their pockets." Be that as it may, his enemies surely wanted to do away with him!—Luke 19:45-48." Like the ones today who are faithful to Christ' Father, note Matthew 24:45-47 as to what they are faith to in a spiritual way. Have we noticed the big money bonuses as obscene with clergy in our day? Or do we ignore them believing they are too holy to be that obscene toward the love of money like Annas? To expose them is a need, not obscene at all! Just take a good look at holy Pat Robertson's record all over the web! Is he really a faithful religious leader or just a secular business person putting on a show of being a religion? Resolved Question: Hey can someone edit this paper for me and just say if there are any grammar mistakes/awkward phrases thanks?

National Honor Society Admittance Essay In the past three years, the four qualities of scholarship, leadership, character and service have played a major role in my life and therefore I believe that I belong in the National Honor Society. I strive to incorporate scholarship and leadership in every aspect of my life. Academics have always been very important to me. I am dedicated to my school work and have challenged myself with ten honors classes and two advanced placement courses during high school. I have worked very hard and been very successful at balancing my school work and extracurricular activities. I have maintained the status of high honor roll student, while playing sports year round, two of which were at the varsity level. Sports have always been a big part of my life and I usually spend my summers traveling the country to play softball or soccer at various tournaments. However this past summer, I decided to take a break from sports to attend a rigorous program at Vassar College, known as Summer Scholars. Summer Scholars is a program that you must apply for and involves taking classes taught by highly respected professors at Vassar College. The attendees lived on campus for two weeks and attended classes for around six hours a day. I was thrilled to have had the opportunity to learn at a higher level during the summer and I am hoping to attend again next summer. I believe that my hard work and determination have forced me into being a strong leader. I think that I set a very good example for my two younger siblings as well as for my peers. In group situations, I voice my opinion and make sure we remain on task. In 2009 I was invited to attend a leadership convention over the summer. I was nominated by my teachers, but forced to decline due to my involvement with Summer Scholars. I have also been a captain of my travel soccer team and a co-captain of my town softball team. Through these experiences, I have become comfortable with the idea of being in charge and have learned how to make those around me strive for their best. The service that I have done proves that I have great character. During the summer, I volunteered for over fifty hours at Vassar Hospital. I demonstrated my compassion and truly enjoyed helping others through difficult situations. I volunteered at the New Hackensack Fire Department Carnival and helped coach a basketball team for my church. I am very proud of what I have accomplished since starting high school and I hope to get the opportunity to be in the National Honor Society to further my service and scholarship and improve my character and leadership. more

Voting Question: Need help with editing an essay! plz :)?

Compare and Contrast Jack and Ralph Jack and Ralph, two young boys given leadership roles on an uninhabited island far from humanity and civilization. Two young boys are forced to lead and protect themselves and a group of British school children after crash landing on an uninhabited island. While Ralph tries to maintain order and democracy, Jack wants to be the absolute ruler of a tribe of boys that only did un things. They are expected to control, direct, feed and protect the other boys until they are rescued. They know what they need to do but need to find a way to put aside their differences and work together. Jack and Ralph, the leaders of the island are the tallest and oldest boys on the island. What makes Ralph and Jack similar is they both demand their fair share of respect and power from the other boys. The boys have a goal while there on the island. Ralph want to build a fire while Jack want to catch the pig wandering around the island. They both want to be heard by the other boys, and they want what they said to be done immediately. “Now I say this and make it a rule, because I'm chief. We won't have a fire anywhere but on the mountain. Ever”. This states that Ralph is ordering the group not to build a fire, but on the mountain. Both boys had different ways of going about it. This is an compare and contrast essay its part of it. if anyone could fix it for or reword it to sound better that would be appreciated thx :) more

Voting Question: What is your opinion on the article?

When talk of race goes behind closed doors (CNN) -- We're just going to put it out there: Behind closed doors, whites talk differently about blacks. At least that's what two sociologists found after conducting a study of college students across the country. One of the researchers, Joe Feagin, said that's why it comes as no surprise to him that a powerful politician such as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would talk about Barack Obama's skin color and use the term "Negro dialect" in what he considered a private conversation. Speaking not of Reid but of his conclusions drawn from his research, Feagin said, "Most whites have sharply reduced the blatantly racist stuff they do in public, while they still do huge amounts in private." "It's just social correctness in the front stage. The scale of this is gigantic on the backstage, which is why the notion of a post-racial America is laughable," said Feagin, a professor at Texas A&M University. "And I think most whites know it because they've been to Thanksgiving dinner with Uncle Jim and have heard the n-word jokes." Feagin and Leslie Picca of the University of Dayton compiled their research in a book called "Two-Faced Racism" published in 2007. They surveyed 626 white students at 28 colleges and universities across the country. They asked the students to keep diaries and record any racial events they came across during the course of a day. The students recorded 9,000 accounts, of which 7,500 were "blatantly racist" events ranging from private jokes and conversations to violent incidents, Feagin said. About 100 accounts stood up against racism, he said. The majority of racial events were directed at African-Americans, but Latinos and Asians also came under attack. Feagin and Picca also surveyed African-American students, but that research is still being compiled. "In these 7,500 blatant accounts, most of them are accounts of what we call backstage racism -- that is they're doing these performances and skits with friends and relatives," Feagin said. Does it surprise him that someone with such political clout as Reid would use a term such as "Negro dialect"? "No," Feagin said, "not after looking at our student diaries." He said Reid "felt safe making" the comment about Obama because he was in a private setting. "It's a great teaching moment," Feagin said. "It shows the difference between the front stage and the backstage. He thought he was saying that in the backstage, and now it's been brought out in the public for all to see and discuss." The controversy is centered on remarks published in the book "Game Change" by Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. The book cites Reid as saying privately in 2008 that Obama could succeed as a black candidate partly because of his "light-skinned" appearance and speaking patterns "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." Reid, D-Nevada, apologized to the president after excerpts from the book were released, and Obama said he considered the issue closed. Your take: iReporters sound off on the issue "This is a good man who's always been on the right side of history," Obama said Monday in a sit-down interview with CNN political contributor Roland Martin. "For him to have used some inartful language in trying to praise me, and for people to try to make hay out of that, makes absolutely no sense." Reid has received the support of the Congressional Black Caucus. On Monday, he said numerous prominent African-American officials, including NAACP Chairman Julian Bond and Attorney General Eric Holder, called to offer their support. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, head of the GOP's Senate campaign arm, has called for Reid to give up his leadership post after the "embarrassing and racially insensitive" remarks. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele also called for Reid to step down. Duke University political science professor Kerry Haynie said he doesn't dispute that attitudes toward race may be viewed differently in private than in public. But he said he doesn't feel that came into play with Reid's remarks. "Many of us who work in areas of race and politics asked these same kinds of questions, about whether Obama is different for whites than other black politicians," Haynie said. "I don't think Sen. Reid was expressing sentiments he would not have expressed publicly." Boyce Watkins, an associate professor at Syracuse University, said the country shouldn't let this moment pass. "The takeaway is that there is a teachable moment, but we can't allow politicians to do all the teaching," Watkins told CNN's "American Morning." "If you watched President Obama's interview with Roland Martin, the conversation tends to be let's sweep this under the rug and throw the baby out with the bath water and move on. "But the truth is that they are trying to get health care passed, and that's good, I respect that, but I want to have the conversation on race. more

Voting Question: Revise this for grammatical errors and other changes?

In order to run for a position in my high school student government, I had to maintain an acceptable grade point average above 2.0 and vow to do my best to better my school environment and the community I lived in. To prove that I had the qualities to be a leader, I had to stand in front of the student body and give a speech of the leadership qualities I had and what I would be able to offer to ASB, "associated student body". Entering high school as a very shy individual, the idea of standing in front of many students instilled fear inside me. Prior to the election, I received a negative comment from a classmate saying, “Roy, ASB is all about popularity, you won’t make it in. I promise.” Regardless of what she had to say to me, I decided to step up to the challenge of speaking in front of others. There were about twenty candidates running for student senate in my house alone (our school was split into four houses). Only five students would be elected into senate. I was one of them. Besides the fact that I was able to become a member of the student senate, I believe my greatest achievement was that I was able to overcome stage fright and speak in front of the school confidently. It was also a good feeling that people recognized me for who I was, not what I looked like or how popular I was. The ASB motto at the time was “strive to provide” and I tried my best to provide service for my school and the community. I was elected every year after that. I was able to become a more confident and charismatic individual through my acceptance into ASB and I’m happy I made the decision to try out in the first place. more

Resolved Question: I think i figured out how lost season 6 is going to play out basically tell me what you think?

Its one of those things that you have trouble putting into words because you understand it but its so hard to verbalize without like all the detail inbetween alright so i think that Jacob and that other dude they introduce on the finally last season were like pharaohs in Egyptian times (hence the temple, statue, and hieroglyphics) Theres this spirit or something some kind of higher power that granted both of them eternal life in that they never age but they are still mortal in that they can be killed. They were given this gift with some guidelines that that they couldnt kill eachother but the other dude (Not Jacob) has something he gets in return for killing Jacob. (kind of like a cain and abel thing) l'll just keep saying the other dude for the guy whose not Jacob. The other dude finds a loop hole by killing himself because if he does so he becomes another reincarnation (John Lock) He knows that jacob tries to bring people to the island (for a reason i dont know maybe to prove something to this higher power maybe a bet or something that humans are fundamentally flawed and always ruin everything) He is tricked by the other dude into bringing John Lock onto the island because Richard (who is working for Jacob) thinks that he would be a good addition to their little group because he has these special abilities (he could travel through time). So he comes back to the island to meet jacob because he knows that John will resume leadership and only the leader (appointed by Jacob). He needed John's body because only he could convince Ben to kill Jacob. (so he gets whatever its probably gonna be caotic like he becomes ruler of the island or something). Maybe Jacob powers all the supernatural abilities of the Island and thats what he wants but hes gonna use it for bad reason. Detonating the hydrogen bomb doesnt change the future (Daniel Faraday -whatever happened happens) The explosion was actually a flash that sends them to the present. All of the people who die on the island become spirits but can only live through the island) Richard was given eternal life through Jacob but he has the power to take it away from him. Ben didn't actually die he was saved by jacob so hes not like them but hes special somehow too or maybe jacob knew that ben would kill him all along somehow and ben had to meet the other dude as John Locke who is the one who convinces ben to kill hiim however jacob is unaware that Lock actually becomes the other dude and thinks that ben is just going to kill him the whenever he meets him. So he never has direct contact with him. Thats why only one person can come to see Jacob at a time to ensure that Ben doesnt kill him but Richard is unaware that Ben is going to kill him. oh and the other seasons just tie in because their main focus was getting off the island and it was the others job to keep them on because they knew everything would get all messed up if they left. Everyone who leaves the island make it unbalanced or something. No person can really leave it. Thats why they wont let Julia leave. She wasnt really all that important they could have easily found another person to do her job. why does she need to stay? more

Resolved Question: I NEED MAJOR HELP!!! I was supposed to read 3 cups of tea over break..but didnt! Help me?

1.There is a telling passage about Mortenson’s change of direction at the start of the book: “One evening, he went to bed by a yak dung fire a mountaineer who’d lost his way, and one morning, by the time he’d shared a pot of butter tea with his hosts and laced up his boots, he’d become a humanitarian who’d found a meaningful path to follow for the rest of his life.” What made Mortenson particularly ripe for such a transformation? Has anything similar happened in your own life? 2.Relin gives a “warts and all” portrait of Mortenson, showing him as a hero but also as a flawed human being with some exasperating traits. Talk about how Relin chose to write about Mortenson’s character—his choice of details, his perspective, the way he constructs scenes. Is Mortenson someone you’d like to get to know, work with, or have as a neighbor or friend? 3.At the heart of the book is a powerful but simple political message: we each as individuals have the power to change the world, one cup of tea at a time. Yet the book powerfully dramatizes the obstacles in the way of this philosophy: bloody wars waged by huge armies, prejudice, religious extremism, cultural barriers. What do you think of the “one cup of tea at a time” philosophy? Do you think Mortenson’s vision can work for lasting and meaningful change? 4.Have you ever known anyone like Mortenson? Have you ever had the experience of making a difference yourself through acts of generosity, aid, or leadership? 5.The Balti people are fierce yet extremely hospitable, kind yet rigid, determined to better themselves yet stuck in the past. Discuss your reactions to them and the other groups that Mortenson tries to help. 6.After Haji Ali’s family saves Greg’s life, he reflects that he could never “imagine discharging the debt he felt to his hosts in Korphe.” Discuss this sense of indebtedness as key to Mortenson’s character. Why was Mortenson compelled to return to the region again and again? In your opinion, does he repay his debt by the end of the book? 7.References to paradise run throughout the book—Mortenson’s childhood home in Tanzania, the mountain scenery, even Berkeley, California, are all referred to as “paradise.” Discuss the concept of paradise, lost and regained, and how it influences Mortenson’s mission. 8.Mortenson’s transition from climbing bum to humanitarian hero seems very abrupt. However, looking back, it’s clear that his sense of mission is rooted in his childhood, the values of his parents, and his relationship with his sister Christa. Discuss the various facets of Mortenson’s character—the freewheeling mountain climber, the ER nurse, the devoted son and brother, and the leader of a humanitarian cause. Do you view him as continuing the work his father began? 9.“I expected something like this from an ignorant village mullah, but to get those kinds of letters from my fellow Americans made me wonder whether I should just give up,” Mortenson remarked after he started getting hate mail in the wake of September 11. What was your reaction to the letters Mortenson received? 10.Mortenson hits many bumps in the road—he’s broke, his girlfriend dumps him, he is forced to build a bridge before he can build the school, his health suffers, and he drives his family crazy. Discuss his repeated brushes with failure and how they influenced your opinion of Mortenson and his efforts. 11.The authors write that “the Balti held the key to a kind of uncomplicated happiness that was disappearing in the developing world.” This peaceful simplicity of life seems to be part of what attracts Mortenson to the villagers. Discuss the pros and cons of bringing “civilization” to the mountain community. 12.Much of the book is a meditation on what it means to be a foreigner assimilating with another culture. Discuss your own experiences with foreign cultures—things that you have learned, mistakes you have made, misunderstandings you have endured. 13.Did the book change your views toward Islam or Muslims? Consider the cleric Syed Abbas, and also the cleric who called a fatwa on Mortenson. Syed Abbas implores Americans to “look into our hearts and see that the great majority of us are not terrorists, but good and simple people.” Discuss this statement. Has the book inspired you to learn more about the region? more

Resolved Question: I want to make a difference in the world. Help me choose a path?

When I'm 90 and I'm telling my grandchildren about my life I want to be able to tell them that I saved lives. I want to say I was the best at what I did with confidence. I'm 16 almost 17. This might want to make you think I'd like to be a doctor however, I don't think I can see myself being in school that long. I have good leadership skills according to my mother and my boy scout leaders. I'm about to become an Eagle Scout in a few months. I'm fairly athletic. I recently lost 50 pounds, I guess that shows some commitment and determination. I have an interest in weapons and all things dangerous, like most guys, that's what got me thinking I might want to join the Military. I've always wanted to sky dive ever since I was a little boy. I LOVE water, currently I'm on my high school swim team. I have good people skills and I have an interest in psychology. The biggest thing holding me back is the fact that I'm an only child of a single mom. Is there a way to tell her I want to be in the military and explain it to her? She wants me to go to college she thinks that is very important and I suppose I will, I think it's important as well although not totally necessary. If I join the Military I want to be some sort of Special Ops. Which branch do you think I should join? I thought about Navy SEAL, but if I fail I'm stuck on a boat for 3 years doing BS... I love the thought of saving lives. I also love the thought of doing something that everyone respects. Is the Military really the right place for me? Or is there another field I should consider? Also I'm in the USA. Thanks very much for all your help! Thanks Jeff that's very helpful. And to the guy who thought I wanted to be a SEAL after losing 50 pounds, I suppose I worded it wrong. That's not what made me want to be a SEAL. I just put that in there so you know I'm not lazy. Special forces or any Military for that matter, takes hard physical effort I'm sure. more

Resolved Question: NBA Questions (Best response=Best answer)?

These questions don't need a big explanation unless you want to. Best responses get best answer. 1. Should Tracy McGrady get more playing time or take it slow until playoff time (if they make it)? 2. Should Gerald Wallace be an all-star? 3. Tyreke Evans or Brandon Jennings? 4. Is the Knicks winning streak a surprise to you? 5. Did Iverson help the Sixers or hurt them? 6. Who should be most improved player? 7. Is the 2008 Playoff Boston-Chicago series one of the best series in playoff history? 8. Do you think it's fair to compare LeBron and Kobe? 9. What is Greg Oden's future? 10. Is Zach Randolph's leadership a surprise? My answers 1. Yes, Tracy McGrady can put up at least 20 ppg with the right minutes. T-Mac still has some juice in him and while it's running low if the Rockets have playoffs in their mind they have to play T-Mac more. 2. Yes, But an all-star reserve of course. He is second in the league in rebounding and one of the more underrated players in the NBA. It would be great to see him get the respect he deserves. 3. Tyreke Evans. Tyreke is averaging 20,5, and 5 while BJ is averaging 19,3,and 6. The stats are similar but Tyreke's stats have translated into winning games. While BJ's double-nickel game is impressive so is Tyreke Evans leading his team to victory from a 35 point deficit. Also Tyreke is playing without Kevin Martin so I give it to Tyreke. 4. Very, Knicks had no chemistry going 1-9 in the beginning, now they're 10-15 from my knowledge. They may have found a chemistry and are locking in on defense. Also Johnathan Bender is a big surprise because he's averaging 7.3 ppg, 1 rebound, and 1 assist per game. That's great stats for someone who hasn't played in 6 years. 5. In a way help but in a way hurt. The Sixers lost Lou Will and Mareese Speights to injury so they signed Iverson. The Sixers are 7-21 and mainly because Iverson messed up the chemistry. With Mareese Speights back Elton Brand is now benched and not happy about his role. The Sixers need to find their chemistry but right now playoffs are out of the question. 6. Channing Frye or Danilo Galinari. Both are very impressive and Channing Frye made a complete turnaround and is averaging career highs. Same for Gallo. 7. Without a doubt. The overtime, the game-winners, the performances, everything. The emergence of Rondo and Derrick Rose as team leaders. The 51 point Ray Allen performance. Joakim Noah's game-changing dunk. In the end both teams didn't make it to the finals, and it was only a 1st round. But it changed the way I think of 1st round playoff games. 8. No, people compare the 2 because LeBron is doing some of the things Kobe didn't do in his first 7 years. When both players are retired completely then you can compare stats, best games, rings, ect but as of now it is unfair to compare a 25 year old LeBron to a 31 year old Kobe. 9. I was devastated when I heard Greg Oden got injured. He was looking like one of the better centers in the west and might have been the all-star center if he kept it up. Oden's future is somewhat in doubt now. Oden looked like the future of a franchise but now he looks like nothing more than a serviceable center. I haven't lost hope yet because he's young but he hasn't yet to complete a full-season. 10. Very, Zach Randolph in my mind was a selfish, immature, good player. Now he hasn't gotten into any incidents, is having great, consistent games, and is being somewhat-unselfish at 2 assists per game. more

Resolved Question: Groups urge better census count of African-Americans in 2010?

Washington (CNN) -- Civil rights leaders Wednesday lobbied Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and top Census Bureau officials to press for a better count of African-Americans in the 2010 census. The U.S. government already plans a nearly $200 million advertising campaign aimed at getting people to respond to the census, which is used to set congressional and legislative districts and allocate federal funds. But National Urban League President Marc Morial said more needs to be done to make sure underrepresented communities are included. "My takeaway from the meeting is that the secretary listened intently and took our concerns very seriously," Morial told reporters after the meeting. But he added, "We still feel there are important, significant steps that need to be taken to ensure that there is a complete count in the 2010 census." Benjamin Jealous, president of the NAACP, said the 2000 census undercounted African-Americans by nearly 3 percent. He said the Census Bureau needs to hire more black managers and subcontractors so "the firms that know these communities best are calling the shots." African-Americans make up a large proportion of what census workers call "hard-to-count" groups, which also include other ethnic minorities and immigrants, children and poor people, said Corrine Yu, senior counsel and managing policy director for the Leadership Council on Civil Rights. In addition, many of those communities show a "general distrust of government" that has hindered participation, she said. Video: Calls for census changes RELATED TOPICS U.S. Census Bureau Studies conducted since the 1940s show those demographics "are all likely to respond to the census quest at lower rates," Yu said. Complicating things further this year are the lingering effects of Hurricane Katrina, which displaced hundreds of thousands of people in the Gulf Coast states of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Four years after the 2005 storm, the area still has large numbers of people in temporary housing and a high rate of vacant homes, according to an August report by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. The report found the Census Bureau plans to hand-deliver questionnaires in some of the hardest-hit parts of the Gulf Coast and launch an extensive ad campaign to get people in the stricken areas to take part in the count. The avalanche of foreclosures over the past two years also is likely to make hard-to-count populations more difficult to tally as well, because many people in those groups have been forced to move, Yu said. "We don't know exactly how this is going to work, because this is a unique circumstance," she said. "But that kind of displacement, whether it's natural disaster like Katrina or a man-made disaster like the foreclosure crisis, will be a new challenge for the 2010 census." The delegation that met with Locke also included Rep. Barbara Lee, D-California, the head of the Congressional Black Caucus; and two of the most visible U.S. civil rights activists, the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, both of whom have made Democratic presidential bids. Morial said the group also asked that prison inmates be included in counts of their hometowns, not where they are held. He said that with about 1.3 million African-Americans in prison out of a total black population of about 40 million, "What we have in the prison population issue is a built-in undercount." Jackson said the delegation did not receive any commitment from Locke on that issue, which he said might need to be addressed by the Justice Department or Congress. Yu said that issue was unlikely to be resolved in time for 2010, but was "an important issue for consideration for the 2020 census." more

Resolved Question: Nationwide Youth Leadership Project?

Ok, so here's the deal: Im a 16 year old student from Alaska, and I am one of the smartest/hard-working/all-around-good teens I know. Recently, I've gotten very involved with leadership, at my school, city, and state level. Cooresponding with that, I've also gotten onto the social networking scene; facebook. What I'd like to do next summer (2010) is some mass, nation-wide leadership activity, probably with 100 students like me (2 from each state). Basically, I want to do something big, really big, WITHOUT EVER MEETING. Myself and all the other people involved would be communicating virtually; email, facebook, skype, phone, etc. to accomplish our goal. Now, this wouldnt be the typical "come here and become a leader" type of thing. I get invites to those all the time; no thank you. No, these would be kids who are very active and involved like me, already, so this would be a "use your leadership skills to do something big" type of thing. NOW HERE'S THE QUESTION: what kind of thing can we do where the effects would be nation-wide? I want this to be a long summer project where we actually accomplish something. I do model UN and other types of things, where although we simulate real events, our propositions are outlandish and not useful for anything, anyway. With a bunch of committed and utterly responsible students such as myself, I believe that we could make a big difference, so I would like to do something actually applicable across all the states. I have ideas of my own, but I'd like to find out what others (particularly young'uns) think about this. PS: what do you think of the idea, itself? more

Resolved Question: Is this a good essay????????????????????

A hero demonstrates characteristics of being brave, daring, and courageous, Such as Beowulf, Arthur, and the U.S. Military. Each of these heroes is brave, loyal, and contains leadership ability through their actions and each of these heroes has their similarities and differences. Although heroes don't physically change: the people, who were considered a hero, change as time and literature progress. Bravery is a necessity to being a great hero. Being afraid to face challenges that lie in the way will surely destroy ones' credibility to those he leads. Beowulf shows this trait as well. He learns of Grendel and the trouble he's causing Hrothgar, and goes nobly to face the beast. Beowulf stays in the hall where Hrothgar nearly fell and tries where he had failed. He goes forward with no idea on how to kill Grendel, just with the knowledge of his complete goodness. Arthur also shows gallantry but differently as the literature has changed. He puts his life out for his knights even if it means it would end his own life. In the poem “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”, Arthur shows bravery when none of his knights appear willing to meet the Green knight’s challenge, Arthur himself prepares to do so. Only when Gawain sees this does Gawain stands up. Just like how Arthur stood up for his kingdoms honor and to show it wasn’t just a tall story. The U.S. Military also stands up for many of the same reasons. The U.S. Military sacrifice their lives for their country and go out to very hazardous lands and fight for our country. Pearl Harbor, WW2 and Vietnam are all examples of places where our military has shown bravery. Loyalty generally means faithfulness or a devotion to a person or cause. When Grendel attacked Hrothgars kingdom, Beowulf came and promised to protect Hrothgars kingdom and be devoted. He was faithful and kept his promise to the people and killed the monster. When Arthur left to go find Lancelot his son Mordrid took over his kingdom. Arthur came back to England to take his throne again and keep his kingdom safe. This is loyal because of May. The U.S. Military can be said the most loyal in our time period. They fight for our land and are loyal to the government. Finally, leadership is the last feature about a hero. Beowulf is the leader of the Geats and later on became a leader for the Danes, especially when he had to defeat the dragon. Beowulf's responsibility was to help his people and when a dragon attacked his land, it was his responsibility to protect them. He showed great leadership by giving up his life for the well being of the others. What made King Arthur a great leader was everything about him. He led the round table and led a whole kingdom. There is not much about King Arthur that does not yell “a great historical leader”. What makes the U.S. Military great leaders is they will always have the welfare of their soldiers come first and foremost is their safety and well being. Also they will be willing to go the extra mile, know to follow orders as well as give orders and have common sense. Overall these three heroes all have been immense heroes in their time. Beowulf, Arthur and the U.S. Military all are quite similar to each other’s ways but also they were very different. Beowulf Mainly did his tasks for fame, unlike Arthur and the Military as for they did it to help others. Another difference was that Beowulf and the soldiers chose to he a hero or lead. Arthur did not choose to become a king. How they were all similar was that they all protect their own people or country. Also even though they wanted it for fame or didn’t choose to be what they are they all done what they thought was write. In Conclusion heroes don't physically change: the people, who were considered a hero, change as time and literature progress. more

Resolved Question: Is this kind of boss a dud ?

A lack of "trust and integrity" was the main reason employees would "fire" a boss, a new survey has found. While a third of respondents to the poll, hosted by website badbossology.com, nominated trust as their main issue, 24 per cent would leave a micromanager. Other boss crimes were not providing development opportunities (12 per cent); not providing open and honest feedback (12 per cent); stealing credit for ideas and work (10 per cent); and not providing coaching support when needed (8 per cent). Management experts DDI Australia sponsored the survey and general manager Mark Busine was not surprised that trust was such an important issue. "Trust takes a long time to build and can be destroyed in an instant," he said. Mr Busine said "trust breakers" included: Bosses who focused on impressing senior managers while treating subordinates poorly (called "managing up"). Saying one thing and doing another. Breaking promises. Not managing bad employee behaviour such as a team member who was constantly late, who shirked tasks or disrupted other staff. Making decisions based on personal gain not on what would benefit the team or the business as a whole. Mr Busine said DDI's own research showed that organisations were falling short when it came to "preparing" employees for leadership. "If we are not preparing our leaders to be good managers then we are not creating good role models for future leaders and so the cycle (of poor management) continues," he said. "Our own research shows most people leave a job because of their relationship with their manager." Confronting a boss with some feedback about their behaviour and it's impact was one course of action to consider, Mr Busine said although he acknowledged this could be tough. "If there is no response to your feedback, then it's probably time to consider if the organisation is really the right place for you," Mr Busine said. However, "illegal" behaviour such as bullying, sexual harassment or discrimination should be reported to human resources. Kate Southam is the editor of careerone.com.au Characteristics of a dud boss •Delegates work that might end in failure to avoid blame. •Answers questions with "yes" or "no" rather than an explanation or reason. •Humiliates staff in front of other people. •Shows one face to staff and another to senior managers. •Creates an environment where people are not allowed to fail. •Won't stick up for staff if they make a mistake. •Brings personal problems to work. •Judges staff on hours worked rather the quality of their work. •Is a crisis manager, not a planner. more

Resolved Question: How do I look like a leader?

Today, I was very surprised that I'm up for a huge leadership promotion at work, especially surprised because I am a lot younger then everyone else who works that position (I'm 19 years old), and I'm not supposed to even be eligible for this promotion until July. However, people above me were given free range to speak their opinions of me today and what i heard sounded off. I believe in myself, I know my job, I know what I'm doing, I'm responsible, I am kind of clumsy and I tend to mishear things alot but I always write things down so I won't forget and I go out of my way to not make mistakes, but of all things my coworkers said this. "Sometimes you just look like a lost little kid and like you don't know what your doing". I do know what I'm doing and I'm very confident. Whats frustrating is because they believe this, my managers are having really unfair inspections on me and I can tell they want me to fail and not get promoted yet. I'll probably get promoted without their help or recomendation because I don't cause trouble and I do a good job. But how can I seem like I'm not always lost and appear more confident? more like a leader? more

Resolved Question: Why is the average person on the internet a complete moron?

Typical convo between me and Steve... TEH STEVE: "I got all the viruses!" ME: Use FireFox instead of Explorer. Put the damn adblock on it, get AVG and you're good to go... Also when it says "CLICK HERE FOR FREE _____ " DON'T DO IT! TEH STEVE: "Wow, you're so smart!" ME: (Wow, you're so dumb.) TEH STEVE: "I don't know how to do all that stuff." ME: "Then you should prolly just get a Mac." TEH STEVE: "But aren't they expensive?" ME: "Anything is expensive if you buy it new. Get a refurb, or a used one on Craigslist." TEH STEVE: "I want that new fast tower!" ME: "What in the would could you and your peanut brain possibly be doing that you would require a computer with 8-cores and 16GB of RAM? TEH STEVE: "..." ME: "Go home, Steve". *TEH STEVE has left the room.* I'm not even that smart. My IQ is like 105 or something. In fact, I can't even remember why I started writing this, but it just pisses me off that EVERYBODY using computers these days are a complete morons. Hell, 4/5 of you that respond to this question a complete waste of bytes. See, I'm not the type of person that expects the internet to do my research for me. I only ask questions for two reasons: 1) When I really can't find the answer. (like now) This one has got me stumped. Sadly, I except my fate and have come to terms with the fact that I'm not going to find the answer. To put it simply, NO ONE READING THIS is smart enough to answer it because they make ever so easy for STUPID PEOPLE to get online! What's worse? I'll tell you: That you don't even realize it's YOU! You're probably kicking back on your chair saying to yourself "Glad I'm one of the smart ones..." WRONG! Only 1/10 of you readers are the smart ones. Google "manager to employee ratio" There is but 1 leader for every 10 followers. That's right, 90% of you don't have an imagination + the will to implement it. So if ten of you are reading this, then only one of you is NOT a complete moron. 2) The other time I ask a question is when I want to make people think. (which would be now but I doubt I can save you when you can't even think for yourselves!) You go to Best Buy, buy the prettiest looking laptop and expect it will work better than the last one you broke, sign up for 3 free months of AOL, whilst, unconsciously living and breathing all the spyware that came with it! ALL OF YOU READING THIS BOUGHT YOUR COMPUTER AT BEST BUY OR WAL-MART <--- That statement is right 90% of the time. Now the real question is WHY? Why why why are you an idiot... .... SURVEY SAYS!: Number of TV sets in the average U.S. household: 2.24. That's right, you couldn't live without it! You do EXACTLY what it tells you to do. From how you dress and what car you drive, to what you eat and who you sleep with- you have 0 say in these matters, you just eat what they dish out at you because you can't lead a horse to water. LEADERSHIP: You has none You can't even make your dog happy and all he wants is cheap processed food and some attention. You people just consume, accumulate items and suck the blood out of everything you see and for what? Just to die. What is it about YOU that makes you think you deserve it all? . What are you doing with your life? What the hell purpose do you serve other than your own personal gain? THAT'S my question for YOU.Yes, Ray: My arrogance is the lamb of the slaughter. School Application Help Needed? 2000 Character Limit- Including Spaces Topic: Describe your personality and what makes you unique How can I make this better? Does it make sense? Any errors? Throughout our life, family, friends, and teachers tell us how unique we are; but we are never specifically told what makes us so different from the other six billion people on the planet. That is something we must discover for ourselves. The past two years that I have spent in high school have revealed more about my personality and uniqueness than during any other time in my life. First and foremost, I am an inquisitive person. I enjoy challenges. The how and why of things amazes me. This curiosity often goes hand in hand with my sensible, practical nature. I have never been the type of person that rushes into anything. My decisions are rarely based upon impulses. Every choice I make is typically analyzed to the minutest degree, which is why I am usually chosen as the leader in a group situation. Leadership is another vital aspect of my personality. I am people oriented. Never the shy one in a crowd, I am always helping or teaching others. Although far from shy, my quiet nature is often misinterpreted as being cold or standoffish. This simple truth is, I am not. My overly compassionate temperament is obvious when someone is in need of help, be it a fellow student falling behind in class, or a homeless man in need of food. One of my favorite quotes is by Albert Camus, a french author. In one of his many essays, he states "We continue to shape our personality all our life. If we know ourselves perfectly, we should die." I believe those words to be true. One of the greatest mysteries of life is discovering who we are as an individual. It is a journey I have only just begun. It is a journey that I hope to continue at NCSSM. Is the ending to cheesy? Is there anyway I can make the intro stand out more? more

Resolved Question: Help with UC essay prompt #1?

Can anyone look over my essay and give me feedback. Anything would be greatly appreciated. PS I know it's short, but i only had 450 words to work with.. Political Science is often associated with global powers and important leaders. In reality however, it is simply the study of how decisions are made within a group, regardless of the context. A few friends and I started a project working with homeless children who lacked basic social and academic skills. Many had witnessed traumatic events at young ages, and cut themselves off from the outside world. Though I was designated as program coordinator, in reality I was an insecure fourteen-year-old with few vocational or leadership skills. The shelter too was worried that we would further damage the children’s psyche, and warned us to proceed with caution. Several of my fellow volunteer questioned my competency, and there was clearly a lack of cohesion within the group. Faced with these challenges, I decided to take a new route. I diluted the authority of our program, so that more volunteers would have roles. Though it meant giving up some power, I found that people were more willing to compromise if they each had a direct responsibility to the children. We also began to include the shelter in our planning, in order to create an agenda that would be beneficial to all. I was amazed at how things had turned around: suddenly interacting with one another became easier. Making decisions was no longer the daunting task it once was, and I became fascinated at how the smallest of changes could turn conflict into cooperation. This interest helped me realize the power of effective communication, as we created an effective program through a communal effort. Political Science is described as "who gets what, when and how." Through our program, we were able to give the children a chance at a better life by teaching them vital skills for their futures. As the program began to progress, I too found myself slowly becoming more confident in my actions. In a strange turn of events, I was developing the self-belief originally meant only for the children. I intend to graduate with a B.A. in Political Science, for it is where I can best impact the future of my generation. Since entering UCSD, I have taken several Honors seminars to deepen my knowledge of the subject, and have even studied abroad to see how politics operate in regions with different values than our own. Through my various experiences I have come to realize that Political Science is everywhere in our lives and it, through proper application, has the power to enact positive change at every level of society. more

Resolved Question: Is Obama really running the country?

Or is he just a puppet? I have been having a nagging intuition lately that something is not quite right about Barack Obama. I am not suggesting there is something wrong with the man, per se. Nor am I talking about the crazy, even dangerous, policies coming out of the White House. No, lately, I have been wondering if Barack Obama is, in fact, the person who is actually functioning as President of the United States. I mean, there's no doubt that he fills the position of POTUS but is he really the one in command? The man actually seems lost at times. He seems to be reacting to ideas about which he does not really have a clue. He has left the writing of this health care bill to Nancy Pelosi's House of Representatives and she, in turn, has farmed the writing out to several fairly radical community action groups. When questioned about health care, he seems not to know or understand the details and even with his silver-tongue seems unable to demonstrate any leadership on the issue. With respect to Afghanistan and the rest of our foreign policy, he seems equally lost. Especially when it comes to dealing with other world leaders. He makes beautiful speeches but seems to be unable to cut deals which benefit our nation. He seems to be acting as a pawn of much more clever world leaders. The more I watch the man, the more I see a person who appears to be the "face" of some other entity or group. He seems like a "front man". And it is becoming clear that his strings are being pulled by someone else. He does not appear to be the man in command of the ship of state. At least, he is not in the driver's seat. You might recall that people said about Bush that he was a front man for the neo-cons and that it was really Dick Cheney that was running the show. It turns out that Dick Cheney was not as influential in Bush's second term as many thought but, perhaps it is true that the neo-cons, whoever they may be, were pulling some of Bush's strings. On the other hand, with Obama, it does not appear that there is anyone who is visible to we the people or the media who is pulling the strings. If they are there, they are not in elected positions as Cheney was. They are better hidden than that. We know that he has been and remains surrounded by life-long radicals, professed communists and anti-capitalists, some of whom he has even appointed as czars in his administration. Thirty six czars, to date. But is it Obama who is picking the czars or is it the czars who are running the show and propping up Obama as their front man? I know all this may sound crazy but, really, when you look at the man without the idolatry and media worship, does he really look like he knows what he is doing? Does he seem to have a direction? Firm convictions? Something he deeply believes in? The more he talks now, the more his words seem empty of content. Platitudes about America and the American people which, when he says them, simply do not ring true. They are words being mouthed but not believed by him. Okay, so maybe he is really clever, is firmly moving the ship to the left while mouthing the words of a centrist but I don't think so. What I used to think was that he was a really slick conman who was making us watch his left hand while he was manipulating us with his right. But, now I don't think that so much. I think the man is more plastic than real. Now I begin to see him as the "Great and Powerful Oz": a fearsome presence who is being manipulated by men behind the curtain. And while Obama does not have strong convictions, the men behind the curtain do. And they are moving this country down a dangerous path. All the while, we are being distracted by Obama and what he says and does. Okay, maybe I am simply a mildly paranoid conspiracy theorist. Why, you might ask, have Obama up there? Why not have one of the actual people behind the curtain run for President. Well, being a paranoid conspiracy theorist, I can come up with an answer to that question. Those other people behind the curtain have backgrounds that are so radical that they would never have made it past the first few days of a campaign. Additionally, they are life-long community organizers and they know what kind of face can be effective if you wish to radically change the nation. First, you need a black man to gain the support of the vast black minority. Second, you need a pale skinned black man so as not to be too much of a threat to white Americans. For the same reasons, you need a mixed race man who allies himself with the poor and down-trodden. And you need someone who speaks well enough to co-opt the language of the right and appear to be a uniter, not a divider. Someone who sees, or at least can articulate, both sides of an issue. This is the kind of man you would pick to be your front man so that while you move things drastically and dramatically left, the vast majority of Americans will not beli more
