Trying to install Windows 7 using boot camp on my Macbook air which doesn't have an optical drive. I've got a Windows 7 (.iso) file which I've mounted, but the boot camp assistant is still asking for a disc. Is there anyway to install it without moving the iso to a disc? Thanks more

Hey guys, I have recently purchased a new Pc, it went through start up problems, e.g. I had to run start up repairs etc. I bought the system from a small business, and they had pre-installed windows 7 on it for me. I thought this could be the problem, so reinstalled windows 7 from the install disk they had provided. All went well, apart from the fact that i now cannot connect to my home network. I have tried an ethernet cable ( that previously worked) and a belkin wireless adaptor to no avail. Is therenany obvious problem here? To cut a long story short, i thought id like linux, so i tried out ubuntu BRIEFLY, and liked it. I installed it and now i am Absolutely hating it. you can't load commercial software (even with WINE), personalisation awful, no decent soft ware. I want windows vista back, but stupidly i deleted this partition, and also deleted the factory image. Can i claim a re installation fo vista considering it came with my PC. Here it goes: I double clicked on a keygen that seemed legit (as legit as they can be). It disappeared and microsoft security essentials stopped working. i tried uninstalling security essentials, but it says i should contact my system admin. i installed a full version of avira (trial), scanned the entire PC and it found one thing. i deleted it, but security essentials won't work. i tried updating it via microsoft's site, it says it encountered a problem. i thought about entering safe mode, but pressing f8 doesn't give me the safe menu, it just boots into regular windows. can a virus prevent me from entering safe mode? any ideas how to reinstall security essentials? i am now running a scan with an eset trial version. it's clean, but there's clearly something wrong with my comp. before running that keygen, i scanned the .exe with security essentials and it said it's clean (that's why i was stupid enough to click it in the first place). any brave thoughts? thanks. more

I have Windows 7 Home Premium installed on the internal hard disk of my desktop PC. because it has become slow, I want to reinstall it from the OEM installation disk that came with the computer. Because I have not done this before, I would like to use the disk to install it on to my computer's external hard disk. If that installation worked OK I could then format the internal hard disk, and run Windows from the external hard disk, which is plugged into the PC via a USB connector. 1/ Would Microsoft allow me to have this version of Windows installed on two hard disks at the same time (although they are part of the SAME computer)? 2/ Is there any technical reason that would stop me doing this? Open Question: Dungeon keeper 2 on windows 7 black screen fix?

Recently whilst clearing out the shed I came across a CD-ROM for dungeon keeper 2 it was designed for windows 95/98 what I have read online is that it should run smooth and without any problems on windows 7 but when I play the screen goes black, whilst loading up I get parts of the screen turning black and in the menu the background is black and on the left side of the screen I can slightly see what I should be looking at which is a moving background of a sort of fort, I have ran as an administrator went into properties and changed it to compatibility windows 98... I still get the same problem I re-installed it and nothing is working anyone know any solutions to this? thanks more

I, like many another poor computer dummy, "upgraded" to Windows 8 only to find I had created some kind of Hydra headed monster that had eaten many of my apps and when I tried to fix this another head appeared asking if I needed a) to speed up my computer, b) clean my drives and so on... My primary loss was the loss of access to my Windows Photo Gallery where I have some 3,000 photos which I cannot edit, print direct or even view. I returned my computer to the supplier and asked them if they could sort this and other problems e.g. I could not scan from my Canon Pixma printer. They sorted most of the problems out but said that despite trying every thing they could the Gallery was an enigma they could not fix. It appears that if I want to be able to edit, preview or print direct I will have to find another Photo app where I can cut and paste my photos from my back-up hard drive and be able to return to the pleasure of creating family collages and making postcards for Church funds etc.. SO, at long last my question, can anyone recommend a programme or an app or indeed suggest a resolution to my problem? ( Trying to go back to a period before installing Windows 8 is not an option apparently.) more

Whenever I try to set my external monitor to only show the desktop, it doesn't, my monitor just says no signal. This have never happened before, and I have searched around the internet for many different solutions such as changing the resolution using a shortcut etc... but nothing seems to be working. I am unsure, but I believe the problem occurred after installing SW:TOR onto my computer, loading it up, and then trying to get the resolution settings to work, before this, I had no problem at all. My main monitor is on my laptop Specs that I know off the top of my head: Windows 7 64bit NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M 4gb Ram The monitor is a techwood, but I do not think that this is a problem with my monitor. Hello, I recently built a gaming pc and it has been running perfectly for several months. However, in the past few days a strange problem has begun to occur. I have two profiles on windows 8; one of them is an on-line account which is connected to my email address and the other is an offline account. I use the on-line account almost exclusively but do log into my offline account from time to time. After my computer began to freeze upon start up I decided to try logging into my offline profile to see if it made any difference. As it turns out the computer runs perfectly in this account with no crashing. I don't understand what the problem could possibly be. I had thought that it was a hardware problem with my primary SSD drive but now that another profile is running I think I can rule that out. I would be grateful for any and all help that you can provide. I am prepared to do a clean re-install of windows 8 but I would prefer not to if possible. Thank you in advance, Alex Evans more

What I mean is I'm having a bit of confusion. I have this MP3 format music and it's length is 4:25, but when I put it onto Windows Movie Maker, it gets cut down to 3:27 ... I have also tried to put this onto Windows Movie Maker 2.6 and it does the same thing! I have another one I tried to put on those and it says, "cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again." But that is also just a regular MP3...so, I'm confused. I don't even know what this 'codec' thing is o.O;! I've used WMM a lot and I have never bumped into this issue...so, I'd like to know if anyone would be able to shine some light here xD! Since March I have had an intermittant smell similar to Amoxicillin upstairs in my home. At first it was when I opened the velux windows but now it happens when they are shut. I have checked the roof space, called the gas board [the guy could smell it but could not identify it], looked all over for the source but to no avail. It is worse during the day than at night. It makes me feel nauseous and heady. for 2 days no i havnt been able to access or do certain things on my pc with out the pc freezing and not responding... this problem is a hard to explain but ill explain what i cant do or what happens when i do certain things... if i try viewing a image or trying to access any multimedia online or offline then my pc will get stuck, and when i double click on the program like the internet or a game when its stuck it will come up with not responding, and if i try to close it down the program it will stay stuck and the whole of the screen besides the task bar will go white, if i try to open the task bar menu button then it wont open and the box will appear but it will be see through and the task bar will be stuck and the only way to shut it of is by unplugging it. i have tried accessing my computer or documents but sometimes it wont load or sometimes that will crash, i have tried restarting and shutting down as soon as my pc starts up but when i do that it gets stuck on a infinite loop of the shutting down or restarting screen. i have also tried accessing safe mode but it doesnt work cause it doesn't finish loading system 32 and gets stuck. i have also recently tried re-installing windows 7 but it ended up getting stuck on the loading and after half an hour it was still stuck loading the same thing. any suggestions to what the problem might be please help me out. possible causes could be a hard drive problem or a disc file problem, let me know what you think. and i can do somethings on my pc but not much more

I would like to do a clean install of Windows 7/Windows 8, latest drivers, updates, most essential software and create an image backup, so if any problems arise sometime later, I could just format the C: partition, and quickly restore Windows with those updates, drivers and software from that image, so I would not have to go through the manual installation and configuring the system again. I would prefer a free software for this purpose (not Windows build in tools). Does FileZilla do all those things? Good commercial software would be OK as well. Also I don't understand where the backup would be stored and how I could restore, considering that Windows would be formatted. Would that be through DOS command line, or by burning a DVD with the backup image (would it run and install itself automatically, similar to Windows installation disk?) Thank you for your input more

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to read this. I have a western digital 2 TB elements hard drive, it was working fine until a few days ago, now, my PC or Laptop will not recognise it. If I switch it on the PC or Laptop does not see it and if I go to my computer the screen goes white. If I switch it off, my computer shows as it is expected. I have tried control panel then disk management. If it is switched on, it does not see it, If I switch it off then Disk management shows all disks and flash drives, if I then switch the WD on, it shows it but I can not access it? I clicked on troubleshoot, that doesn't do anything? As you may tell, I am not very PC literate and unsure why this has suddenly stopped working but any hints or tips would be most appreciated, this has 6 years worth of family photos on & I will be in BIG trouble as not all of them are backed up twice! im making some stop motion animations, ive taken all the images i need and put them in both premiere elements 11 and windows movie maker but cant seem to get the frame rate right to make the images seem to flow. ive had most success in move maker but i can only get the image duration down to 0.30 which makes the images seem jumpy and is still too slow. i decided to use premiere elements as i have this installed, ive looked on adobe and they state you can do it with this but i seem to fail to come close to achieving anything. i can see how it must work but just cant work it out. ive got all the images, i just need to increase the frame rate per second to give a smoother animation. any help of how to increase it on move maker (dont think there is a way) or help on how to achieve it using premiere elements 11 is very much appreciated more

I can login to origin through the same account but the sims 3 site hasn't worked for me for months! When I try to login via the launcher it doesnt do anything - I put in my details and the login window closes, but it doesn't show me as logged in. And when I try on the website itself I enter my details, press enter and then I get a "We seem to be experiencing technical difficulties" message. I tried to change my password by choosing the 'forgot my password' option but that just takes me to the Origin login page, which just closes when I log in, leaving me on the sims 3 site with that technical difficulties message... This has been happening since I installed University life Ltd Edt (shortly after it came out, so its been a while) and I tried to log in to get the extra limited edition features. more

Today I purchased Alice: Madness Returns from my local Game store. I just tried to install it, as you would do any other PC game that you purchase, except my AVG has encountered about 15 Trojan Horses only 1/4 of the way into the installation. I've cancelled the install but I'm stuck; I want to play the game but obviously it's problematic if these Trojans keep popping up. The game is totally legitimate. I used to get about 500 FPS, but now, because of the new update, I get about 60. I installed Optifine, but it didn't change much. I have a pretty good PC, these are the specs: i7-3630QM 3rd Generation Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 8GB RAM Windows 8 I'm fine with other games. But why am I lagging on Minecraft? I downloaded a crack for rosetta stone version 3 and successfully installed it with it fully functional. It started playing up such as not being able to download language packs so i uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it hoping it would run smoother. However when i try to run the setup.exe there is a problem, i accept the T&C then accept the usual installation folder (program files x86) however the error message "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." I re-downloaded the exe from the same source as i originally downloaded it, thinking the exe might have became corrupt however the same message occurs. I have windows 8 and did not change any computer setting or install any anti-virus between it working and not working. Voting Question: Windows unaware of Ubuntu/Ubuntu multiboot settings?

Currently, when I boot I am given a menu of OSes to boot, with Ubuntu, then a couple of extra modes, with Windows at the bottom. I also have an auto-select for Ubuntu if I don't choose after a few seconds. Two things really: I've tried to edit the boot menu from Windows by going to advanced system settings, startup and recovery, default OS, but the drop-down only lists Windows 7 (however Ubuntu IS definitely installed!). How do I make Windows 'aware' of Ubuntu? Failing this, how, in Ubuntu 12.04, do I edit boot settings? Ideally I'd like no menu and to auto-boot into Windows, and then change as necessary when I want Ubuntu. Hugh :) more
