So I installed the updated one and it worked great. A week later the laptop is perfectly fine, but I had to go somewhere, and I put it to sleep mode. I get back after eight hours, and there is a box saying something like restarting in 14 minutes to finish installing important updates, or something like that, so I just clicked the restart now option. It configured for about a minute and let me get back to my desktop. I reconnect to my Internet, and try to go on facebook. Open the browser, and it stayed on a white page. Still frozen, I click the task manager, and that froze. I turn of the computer and try again, same thing. I left it for the night, and tried once more. Now I can't even get to the desktop. It freezes at the password login. I called acer and they said I need to refresh, but since it's frozen I can't access anything. They said I'll have to buy some sort of discs, five of them, for twenty bucks. I agreed, and said ill call back to order. A few times later I try to login, and I get a few messages. One being WerFault.exe - Application Error : the exception illegal instruction an attempt was made to execute an illegal instruction 0xcooooo1d occurred in the application at location ox73041ab8 click on ok to terminate the program. The other message, the technician said to disregard. This one I haven't mentioned to them about yet. I clicked ok to terminate and all I have is the same black screen I've been having. So what is the issue here? Do I need those discs, and what will they do? Why does that message mention something illegal? This is windows 8, I have a secure network, all I downloaded was iTunes and music from bandcamp, which I scanned for viruses. Please help with anything. thanks to all!

I know how to change which program it will automatically open with, but I can't find PowerPoint on it. have a Windows 7 Gateway laptop, and as soon as I turn it on, It shows the Windows screen, and then goes to the System Recovery window. None of those options have done anything for me, and all forms of chkdsk did not find anything. What would my next option be to fix this computer?
When i do the Gateway Recovery Management tool, it attempts to restore the system until it gets to about 12% then gives off the error code:

Almost every program becomes unresponsive and logging into yahoo answers took about 5min of loading. I have 6GB of Ram and an i5 cpu. I have done a disk clean up and a virus scan. It is so slow for some reason that I can not figure out. I thought maybe a program in the background was running, but when I checked task manager nothing was running. I restarted multiple times. I just recently installed Just Cause 2 into my system, and everytime I attempt to run Just Cause 2 I get the error, "The program can't start because fmodex.dll is missing from your computer". I've attempted to redownload the dll. and place it in my SysWoW64, System32, and the Just Cause 2 game directory.
After I do that, I get a new error which consists of this error...
"JustCause2.exe - Entry Point Not Found - The Procedure entry point ?getCPUUsage@System@FMOD@@QAG?AW4FMOD_RE… could not be located in the dynamic link library fmodex.dll."
Some help would be appreciated, because I'm clueless.

I've attempted to redownload the dll. and place it in my SysWoW64, System32, and the Just Cause 2 game directory.
After I do that, I get a new error which consists of this error...
"JustCause2.exe - Entry Point Not Found - The Procedure entry point ?getCPUUsage@System@FMOD@@QAG?AW4FMOD_RESULT@@PAM000@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library fmodex.dll."
Some help would be appreciated, because I'm clueless.

after my microsoft security essentials' quick scan in safe mode, it said that it did not
anything. (and the cpu usage was no longer at 40-50%) So I turned the computer off and decided to resume fixing it today.
Today, I read the answers and decided to download the free version of malwarebytes. (The 100% cpu usage is back)
As it is currently scanning, I opened up task manager and clicked on the proccesses tab, I noticed 2 things. One is that there are 8 svchost.exe. And 1 of them is using 99% of my cpu usage while the other 7 is at 0.
Due to this, I definitely know that there is a virus on my computer. (Windows xp btw) Im hoping tjat malwarebytes' quick scan removes it, but it did not detect anything after scanning 41.6K objects (It is still scanning though so there's still hope of finding it.)
If malware bytes does not fix it, can anyone tell me how to deal with this?

As most of you know, Blue Isle Studios has just released the first update for Slender The Arrival, version 1.2. Sadly, I am unable to update my game. I checked on the website and the description states that the game will automatically update when you start the game. The game does not update. I have also tried going to the game's directory, which is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Blue Isle Studios\Slender - The Arrival, and launching the "Patcher.exe" manually. That also did not work. Can anyone help me?
NOTES:
I did purchase the game so I have working files and a real product key
During the game setup I changed the install directory from "C:\Games\Slender - The Arrival" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Blue Isle Studios\Slender - The Arrival". Does this matter?
I tried adding firewall exceptions and running the game as an Administrator. That also did not work.
I have Windows 8 Pro (x64). This should not matter, considering the fact that the game does run.
I also meet the Recommended Requirements:
CPU: Quad Core Intel or AMD - I have AMD FX 4100 Quad-Core
RAM: 3GB RAM - I have 8GB RAM
VGA: GeForce 260 1GB or (HD4850 1GB) - I have HD 5750 1GB GDDR5

I just formatted my Dell OptiPlex GX270
I got and installed all the drivers from the dell site plus the ATI driver for my graphics card
So that rules out viruses/outdated drivers, unless I made a mistake
I tried telling steam to delete local content and downloading and installing it again but still no luck.
Details and Symptoms:
*Counter Strike boots fine
*If I try to start a offline game, at Initializing Game Data or if I click options
*HL2.exe Starts to use 100% CPU
Any ideas, It is a baffling problem and I am stumped
Ps. It ran Counter Strike: Source fine before the format and after other formats, I haven't changed anything.

I have a Dell Inspiron desktop that I got from a relative. It has Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit with an AMD Sempron processor and a Radeon HD 3200 graphics card. I decided to update the graphics drivers and Catalyst Control Center. However, no matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall the catalyst package, it installs the drivers (i think it does, at least) then crashes when it goes to install Catalyst. Event Viewer reports the log every time as : "Product: ccc-core-static -- Internal Error 2753. installShell.exe" This is really annoying me, because I don't want to have to re install Windows. I've tried everyting I can think of; deleting everything that says 'ATI,' installing from Safe Mode (which doesn't work), and following the instructions on the ATI website. I am at my wits end and have not found the right answer. Please help, if you can!
The only thing that is wrong was that Catalyst Control Center will not open and MOM.exe would not load. All the drivers seem to work fine.
Oh, and the installer that keeps failing is "13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_32_dd_ccc.exe"
On starup and when trying to start CCC it says it cannot find MOM or CLI.implementation respectively.

However, I tried changing the default startup file (something like authui.dll) and replace it with a customised one, but I don't think it was correctly put into the system folder. Now whenever I try to load up my PC I can get past the 'windows is starting' part, but then I get a black screen which won't allow me to do anything.
