From the UK. I have an Asus N55S Series Windows 7 64-bit laptop and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. My dad bought the game for me years ago, I was only able to play it on his computer at the time, but now I've got a proper gaming laptop, I wanted to play it on here, I looked first to see if I could play it (Windows XP) onto my laptop (64-bit) and people said you could. So I installed it, then I accepted to download something that was needed to play the game, then it asked to restart, so I did... and then this 'Startup Repair' was taking over completely for ages, it just would not work, at all. My dad ended up fixing it last night. So now it's back to it's original state, pretty much lost everything. :( Working though. My laptop recently died so I dug out my old computer and it is well out of date so I would like to upgrade it. I would like to keep the PSU(330w), Case, DVD drive and hard drive. I have found a motherboard, memory, CPU and fan bundle that I want and I'm looking to buy it soon, I am also going to buy windows 7 x64 home. The hard drive I want to keep has Windows XP installed on it and I'm now not sure of what to do once I have plugged everything together, do I need to somehow format the hard drive before I switch on the new set up and try to install Windows 7 on it, will it damage everything if I just switch it on? I just recently downloaded VirtualBox and I'm currently running Windows XP Service Pack 3. The reason I downloaded it is because Windows 8 does not play some of my Sims 2 Expansion Packs & crashes in create a sim. All of my games installed with no problems in the virtual machine, but when I try to run the game this message appears: "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0x compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate." My host computer (the windows 8 one) is a brand new one I got at Christmas so I know the graphics adapter is 100% up to date but obviously there are some issues with the virtual comp here. I'm a complete newbie to running virtual machines so I'm surprised I managed to get it running without issues! It'd be really great if someone could tell me where I'm going wrong here. I'm a musician (sort of) and I've always used a Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit for Windows XP and it did wonders for me, but I installed the same PCI sound card in a Windows 7 computer which already had HD VDeck, and Sound Blaster doesn't seem to be working too well in this case. I've reformatted the hard drive on my desktop PC due to having a rootkit virus that I couldn't remove with antivirus software. I wiped my system and have successfully installed an operating system (Windows XP home) but it is doing really random stuff, for example, I could open Notepad and it will randomly open the file tab, or I could open Word and it would randomly shut it down. Is this a driver issue? a configuration issue? has the virus got to the motherboard? or is it possessed? I'm assuming the virus has gone because the OS was wiped, but it could it still be lurking somewhere, causing problems? I currently use Windows 7 and within the 7 installation I run a XP VM, this is just for work and to save me carrying around two laptops. The advantages of having it done this way is I can switch back and forth from tasks, However the VM is often slow (despite giving it as much access to resources as I can) If I get a USB stick with a high wread/write speed, would it better running it that way, in terms of speed. I brought a keystation 88es and a USB - MIDI cable. When i got it i put the MIDI in the back and put the USB the back of my computer. Its seemed like the drivers installed. but i still put the driver CD in anyway. First problem when the choice comes up to install to windows XP my firewall says there is a virus on it. I disable the firewall and then it say the program can not be installed on your computer settings? Second problem the keystation didn't have a power lead with it, but lucky i have one from my old one? Third problem is that it come with live lite 6 that don't have any serial number and i don't know how it work it. So the keystation could be working but i don't know? I AM SO ANNOYED! I have spent at least 2-3 hours on working on a video, it came into my head so I thought I'd make one. Now I took these videos with my iPhone but since it does not have a fucking pause button so you can't cut from one video to another, I had to do that on Windows Movie Maker. I put them all together and then I play them, and they freeze or come out as pictures or have no sound. I am really pissed, I was going to put it on youtube because I found it rather funny. Why the hell are they freezing and have no sound? Is there anything I can download on my iPhone (WITHOUT PAYING) that will let me put my videos together? hi all i got the imedia mc 2469 cheap on ebay. since getting it i keep getting the BSOD. i am running xp pro and it only happens every 3 hours or so. i tried to install windows 7 as i thought the spec was enough but when i did i got the BSOD every 20 minutes. the bios version is W7301020.021. i thought if i updated the bios may be it would work. but i have now idea where to find the bios update as packard bell dont support this computer anymore. i have already replaced the graphics card twice, tried 3 different harddrives and 3 lots of memory and it still has the BSOD. i thought windows 7 would improve the computer and xp will not be supported next year. am i wasting my time and money or is there some hope for this computer still. any help would be great. thanks. moreResolved Question: has anyone ever lost important files/ media files on your computer?

I've been using itunes on the same computer, with the same ipod for the past year or so, itunes updated last week and now whenever I plug in my ipod I get this message: 'The software for this ipod is not installed properly. I recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and realize a difference in Microsoft's window features. In XP it use to physically uninstall and remove the selected programs but now they've made it so it only "turns-off". Why do they want users to keep them installed but not accessible ? It uninstalled the programs but kept the installers meaning it could be reinstalled easily so why turn them off ? In earlier versions of Windows, to turn a feature off you had to uninstall it completely from your computer. In this version of Windows, the features remain stored on your hard disk, so you can turn them back on if you want to. Hi I have a pc with a 3ghz xp 3000+amd processor. I'm trying to upgrade my pc from win xp sp3 to win 7 premium. It gets most of the way to near the end of completing the final install bar but then suddenly shuts off with the power light still showing. So I have to turn off the power then turn it on but then the cd starts to run then it shuts off again without warning. i have an old dell dimension 3000 running a fresh install of windows 2000. i know it's old but i will only be using the machine to do invoicing and will never be used to browse the web. i have pugged the printer into the pc and turned it on. then i have ran the setup cd. it all goes well until it tries to find the printer. it just doesn't find it. i have also tried it through the windows printer wizard. same story. then i tried to download the drivers from brother's own webpage. it was the same story their. i have checked that this printer works with windows 2000. the printer has always worked fine with xp vista and 7. any ideas? moreResolved Question: Realtek digital output?
So recently I upgraded my motherboard and OS (from xp to windows 7) but since then I have been getting no sound through my speakers but on the sounds, in the playback tab its says "Realtek digital output". I have never heard or seen this Realtek digital output in my entire life. When I plug in my speakers, head phones, headset, it says there not plugged in.. It's VERY slow now. It still works though. But it's not realistic to do too much of anything on it. If I clean out the fans, uninstall some programs, fee up some disk space and perhaps to a clean installation of windows, is it possible to get it running at a working speed again? A year ago i bought another memory card for my computer because it had low virtual memory. Then a while after that it got a really bad virus. In order to get rid of it I had to reinstall windows, but I only had a vista CD and my computer was on XP. When installing it could only choose to completely wipe my computer and start again(losing all files).After it installed i turned on my computer and C: had 52.7GB and about 45GB of it was used up. When it was XP I wasn't aware of that much memory being taken up. So i'm wondering if there is any chance that there could still be some old XP operating system files. i have a Toshiba sat pro laptop with 1gb ram and a decent graphics card and processor..... i use this PC mostly for watching movies and personal use. the problem first started when the PC could not get past the windows boot icon at the start. I used to have a great game which ran on my old computer windows 98 (the game was designed to run on windows 95/98), but when we got our new computer 10 years ago with Windows XP it didn't work properly on it, even when I changed the compatibility mode. I really miss playing it because it was a great game, and the updated version which does run on Windows XP doesn't do it for me like the original version did. I heard that installing a 'dos box' or 'virtual player' may help to run the game properly. But I am not a very tech savvy person and am worried that installing one of these two things may interfere with the normal running of my computer...is there a chance that this would happen?
