Hey guys, I have recently purchased a new Pc, it went through start up problems, e.g. I had to run start up repairs etc. I bought the system from a small business, and they had pre-installed windows 7 on it for me. I thought this could be the problem, so reinstalled windows 7 from the install disk they had provided. All went well, apart from the fact that i now cannot connect to my home network. I would like to do a clean install of Windows 7/Windows 8, latest drivers, updates, most essential software and create an image backup, so if any problems arise sometime later, I could just format the C: partition, and quickly restore Windows with those updates, drivers and software from that image, so I would not have to go through the manual installation and configuring the system again. I would prefer a free software for this purpose (not Windows build in tools). Does FileZilla do all those things? Good commercial software would be OK as well. Also I don't understand where the backup would be stored and how I could restore, considering that Windows would be formatted. Would that be through DOS command line, or by burning a DVD with the backup image (would it run and install itself automatically, similar to Windows installation disk?) Thank you for your input more

i have recently been having problems with my graphics drivers and stuff. I have a laptop with quad core 1.9ghz, 1TB HDD and a 128GB SSD. with 500mb video ram (intergrated) and a linked adapter with 1gb video ram (APU and GPU) the graphics cards are radeon hd 6620g and radeon 6630m. Google chrome stopped working suddenly, so i updated the intergrated 6620g. and updated the amd catalyst control center for the graphics. this didnt help and it stopped all my games and the catalyst control centre. (also i could use firefox but not view video (flash)). i reinstalled chrome, uninstalled fraps and other things. didnt work. i rolled back my integrated 6620g to the old driver. My games worked and chrome did, but when ever the display turned off, it wouldnt wake!!. I installed the graphics driver the laptop came with on the windows folder on the HDD. The display waked, but chrome didnt work and i couldnt view videos or flash on any browser. i reinstalled the previous one but i have to leave my laptop display on or have to turn it off every time. I tried redownloading the drivers. The chipset drivers says my OS is not compatible with the AMD processors (WIN 7), lie. the other drivers are HDMI driver, VGA driver both didnt work. If i reinstall windows and want to keep all my game files and saves and all the stuff so its back to normal, how do i do it. Sorry about the writing im 15, but know my way easily around a PC. anyone who solves this will be rated max or whatever and classed as a god. more

The laptop is a HP Pavilion DV9700 Notebook, and currently there is no Operating System installed on it, as originally it was running on Vista, then upgraded to Windows 8, but then when downgrading to Windows 7, some issues arose, first of all it came up saying that there were no Device Drivers present when trying to locate the hard drive to save it on, so after a bit of messing about I went into the BIOS setup page and run a Hard Disk check where it informed me that there was no IDE Device, so my question is, where do I locate the appropriate IDE device for this laptop and install it, or is there any other way to resolve this issue? more

I have a Dell windows 8 and my internet has been absolutely perfect but when I turned it on this morning, there was no internet. I checked to see if I turned it off accidently and I saw it was off but no matter what I did tot try and turn it on, it wont. I just recently downloaded VirtualBox and I'm currently running Windows XP Service Pack 3. The reason I downloaded it is because Windows 8 does not play some of my Sims 2 Expansion Packs & crashes in create a sim. All of my games installed with no problems in the virtual machine, but when I try to run the game this message appears: "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0x compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate." My host computer (the windows 8 one) is a brand new one I got at Christmas so I know the graphics adapter is 100% up to date but obviously there are some issues with the virtual comp here. I'm a complete newbie to running virtual machines so I'm surprised I managed to get it running without issues! It'd be really great if someone could tell me where I'm going wrong here. Really need help and fast. I was working on a program After Effects which had a problem with my current graphics driver. I ended up following random tutorials to get around that problem and may have downloaded the wrong drivers, i tried so many and think i may have over-writed my original one. Resolved Question: Reformatted hard drive but now it opens random programmes?

I've reformatted the hard drive on my desktop PC due to having a rootkit virus that I couldn't remove with antivirus software. I wiped my system and have successfully installed an operating system (Windows XP home) but it is doing really random stuff, for example, I could open Notepad and it will randomly open the file tab, or I could open Word and it would randomly shut it down. Is this a driver issue? a configuration issue? has the virus got to the motherboard? or is it possessed? I'm assuming the virus has gone because the OS was wiped, but it could it still be lurking somewhere, causing problems? I haven't even tried to get it hooked up to the internet yet until I get this problem sorted out. more

I bought a dell inspiron 15r SE with both intel HD 4000 and a radeon AMD 7730M GPU. Problem is i was doing a bunch of windows updates and it seems to have ruined me. My option for switchable graphics in the radeon control catalyst center disappeared and I have a windows update problem: storage controller - intel(r) 7 series chipset family sata ahci controller wont install. After this wouldnt install i checked the catalyst controller center and the switchable graphics had disappeared. So I uninstalled the GPU driver and the catalyst control center. I have reinstalled the GPU driver from dells website for this particular gpu but i cant find on the AMD site where to download the catalyst control center! Can someone help please? My parents bought a laptop 2 or 3 months ago which they use to check the news in the morning and their email. They also use skype on it once in a week or 2. So this means that the laptop was hardly used since they have bought it. Recently the laptop didn't want to find any wireless connections and when it did it couldn't connect to any. Upon startup there was a pop up message saying "could not reconnect all network drivers". I have tried system restore but there was an error saying that the system restore couldn't be fully completed. I have also tried connecting to my friends network who lives next door and the same thing happened. I have decided to do the good old trick of reformatting the pc and installing win 8 again. Luckily windows 8 has the option which formats the pc for you and then installs windows 8 so you don't need any OS discs etc. The format took around 16 hours..... and so I tried to connect to my network in the setup page when you first start windows 8 and got the message "could not connect to this network right now" the same happened when I tried to connect to my friends network. By the way my parents did not download anything so there's no way it could have been some type of virus and secondly I think the format didn't fix the "couldn't reconnect all network drivers"problem Anyone know how to fix this ?That's what I said. I reformatted the whole pc which completely wiped everything and installed windows 8 again. Still doesn't work. more

I brought a keystation 88es and a USB - MIDI cable. When i got it i put the MIDI in the back and put the USB the back of my computer. Its seemed like the drivers installed. but i still put the driver CD in anyway. First problem when the choice comes up to install to windows XP my firewall says there is a virus on it. I disable the firewall and then it say the program can not be installed on your computer settings? Second problem the keystation didn't have a power lead with it, but lucky i have one from my old one? I have heard that you can damage an ISSD or express cache SSD when attempting to install windows on it. Also that they may need specific drivers to allow them to run. Basically am i going to mess the computer up? more

Resolved Question: Windows 7 not detecting Optical Drive?

Hello, I recently purchased an Optical Drive. It's an Asus DRW-24B5ST. I installed it into my Mac Pro which is split between OS X and Windows 7. It worked perfectly on OS X, but when I switched over to Windows, it wouldn't detect it in either Devices and Printers or Device Manager. It's plugged in properly, and it does work. What could be the problem? Is it my motherboard being build around OS X, or maybe i'm simply missing some drivers? more

I tried going to dxdiag, but everything said "n/a" and not giving me the options I need to check it. I updated my graphics card driver (Which won't work while in safe mode anyway) I re-installed directX and still got nothing :/ Thanks in advance more

I've just brought a new laptop and I want to upgrade its RAM so that it will run faster and more responsive. could someone please walk me through the process of upgrading its virtual RAM. Resolved Question: My PC won't boot, even from safe mode!?

I was playing a game and decided to use the xbox controller option. So I installed "Xbox Accessories 1.2" from microsoft.com and it told me to restart. I restarted and when the "Starting Windows" screen came up it stuck there for about 5 minutes before I shut it down manually. I then went to "Repair my computer" and that did the same thing. I went for my last resort, Safe Mode, but even that froze when it loaded its last driver. What is wrong?Also, weirdly, my keyboard will stop working when I get to the "Starting Windows" screen.I did say that it won't start even if I do "Repair my Computer".... Resolved Question: my graphics card is slow?

okay heres my set up. AMD phenom 945 x4 quad core 8gb of pny RAM 1tb hdd gtx 550 ti graphics card. i was playing skyrim on high with 135 mods active and every now and then id pop on ultra just see how pretty it looks. there was no lag, the frame rate was somewhere around 50 to 60 and all was well. that was with a radeon hd 6670. now for some reason my gtx 550 ti cant match up? its benchmarked at being clearly better but its not performing better. any ideas as to why that is?the gtx 550 ti is evga branded btw ive downloaded drivers for it and my frame rate is higher now. using fraps im looking at on ultra an average of 60 to 70. any ideas on how to get more fps without sacrificing quality? more

Resolved Question: PC won't install any version of Windows...?

I've tried to wipe both my hdds using DBAN the one I wanted to wipe got to 100% but the other got to 50% and I switched it off... so I tried reinstalling an os Windows 8 for example, that says that there is a media driver missing, Windows XP setup won't even get to inspecting hardware and windows 7 hangs on expanding windows files. This is really bad as I have no other way of saving my pc. :(Never mind guys i've fixed it, I corrupt one of my hdds and removed it. more

Resolved Question: Praetorians - PC Problem?

I am trying to install praetorians on my PC and it goes fine until I try to play the game an error message appears when I try to open it: Praetorians.exe - unable to locate component "This application has failed to start because dllsonido.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I have re-installed it 3 times to no avail I have the latest direct x drivers installed and all my other drivers including video are all up to date. I use windows XP I think it is important to note that I have installed and played this game on my computer dozens of times before. For some reason this time this error has popped up I have hunted through the internet with no solution being found. I have even contacted the makers of the game via email who are working to find a solution has anyone ever encountered this error and how did you fix it? thanks guys more
