Resolved Question: Help! My dentist cannot numb my tooth!?

I have a very sensitive lower tooth. It only became sensitive after I had to have a small filling. Before this it was not sensitive or giving me and pain at all. The sensitivity left me with pain upon eating anything hot, cold or sweet. I use mouthwash and toothpaste for sensitive teeth and it has helped reduce the sensitivity by about half. I did not realise the extent of my problem until I was advised about getting a crown to save one of my upper teeth which just so happens to be directly above my sensitive one. During a consult with a specialist he said the lower tooth was too high and in order to fit the crown above it he would need to grind it down. I told him about the sensitivity and he took some x -rays and said that he would try to change the filling in the lower one because he could not get me ready for a crown above if the lower tooth was not properly prepared. He spoke to the dentist who originally did the filling and they asked me if I had any preference as to who should re fill the tooth. I said I would like the dentist who was going to fit the crown to sort out my filling to save me having to see two dentists. They were fine with this. The first time I had my filing I was given a "blocker" I'm not sure if that's the right term but my entire lower jaw was numb and I felt nothing. However my tooth was not sensitive before I had the filling fitted anyway, I had a small cavity. 1st Attempt. I was injected 4 times around the sensitive tooth and even before the drill was switched on the pain from the cold air / water made me jump. I was injected another 3 times. As soon as the drill touched my tooth I felt an intense sharp pain which went deep into my jaw and ear. The dentist said he could not numb my tooth anymore and stopped the procedure. He filled the tiny amount of filling he had taken away and said next time he would numb my lower jaw. 2nd Attempt. The injection to numb the jaw was unpleasant but I was confident it would work. I was scared but hopeful. I felt half of my lip and half of my tongue go numb but when the dentist checked if the gum around my sensitive tooth was numb I could feel the sharp instrument he was using so he gave me two small injections around the tooth itself. He waited about 10 mins and again I could feel the cold water / air but now I wasn't sure if it was still the same tooth that was hurting. He began to drill and I felt everything again!!! It was too painful for me to continue. My dentist called his colleague into the room who fitted the original filling and they spoke at length about the options I had left. 1st option. Allow my original dentist to try and numb the area - I understand it's difficult to numb lower teeth but because he managed to do it last time he wants to try again. We are trying this next week. 2nd Option. Sedation. This is for nervous patients and although it will not reduce the pain it will help me to relax. I asked my dentist if he though I was making up the fact that I could still feel pain to which he said "no but sedation might help your nerves". It costs £300. I want something for the pain and if this isn't going to help that then I'm not sure why I should try this. I've had two root canals in my upper teeth at the same time before so I'm not a complete wimp. But in all honesty I could only go through with the procedure because I felt no pain. I was just uncomfortable. 3rd option. Hypnotism. I have no idea on what to make of this. Does anyone know how this would help me? In all of this my original problem may have been lost. If grinding a tooth is necessary but can make perfectly healthy teeth sensitive what will it do to my super sensitive tooth?! I asked about having a root canal on the lower tooth but both dentists said it is too complicated and not practical because we need to try and take the sensitivity away by changing the filling first. It also needs to be numbed properly before I can brave a root canal. I'm praying my tooth can be numbed and I can have the filling changed which will make the tooth better. Then I will try to have it shaped so I can get a crown fitted above it. If I can't have this then my tooth that needs a crown desperately will fracture further and eventually need to be extracted. All of this because my lower tooth won't go to sleep! If I was brave I'd attempt to take the pain. Lets see if my bravery improves by next week when I'm trying for the 3rd time to numb the stupid thing. Is it possible that simply changing a filling will take away my problem so that I can continue with the rest of my treatment? Is the fact that my tooth is too sensitive making it impossible to numb or is that a separate issue? more

Resolved Question: Are there people who can 'hypnotise' others with their intelligence?

For example, when using persuasion, appealing to logic and reasoning and/or intuition. Now, brainwashing is just a part of society; everybody in the world is brainwashed into behaving the way they do and of their sense of right and wrong in a civilised society. But, are propaganda and manipulation forms of hypnotism? Also, even pretending that you are an expert in a topic by using false technical terms, for example, when talking about Biology, using a made-up word such as 'naricerous' when describing something. What I have found this does is make people believe that you know what you are talking about, as the word sounds like it comes from Latin, although the word doesn't exist! But, is also doing this a form of hypnotism to gullible people? more

Resolved Question: Help on Books about hypnotism?

Basically Ive been wondering for a while whether its possible to learn things like hypnotism etc by books. Ive had a look about and I have 2 questions: 1. Does Paul Mckenna have a book that will teach his techniques? I know he has alot of books that aim to stop smoking, drinking etc and wondered if he actually goes into his techniques. 2. Can anyone recommend any other books that might help? Bit of a random subject, thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: Would it be worth giving hypnotism a go to try to curb my spending?

I think I might - in fact I know I have a problem with money. I can't budget or can't save as much as I truly want to. For instance I'll be on my way to town to pay a bill, but then will enter a shop and spend the bill money as it makes me feel elated and happy. Then I get home and I feel disgusted in myself and disappointed, and I vow to myself to never let it happen again. But it does. I actually get agitated, anxious and nervous if I don't spend money - but then it just makes me feel worse in the long run. I feel I have no control over this and think it might be a proper addiction that I need help with. I want to move to London soon and I know I'm going to have to save but I just don't think I have it in me. I've considered hypnotism, as I heard they can help with and possibly cure addictions. Has anyone ever had any experiences of hypnotism? Is it wrth a try? Thanks, World. :-) more

Resolved Question: Could zombies be real?

Geeky question, i know. Just finished watching resident evil extinction. Right, im not talking some crazy voodoo, dead rising from the grave fuzz here. I'm thinking more "T-virus" Is there anything that could turn a person or animal into a zombie? Even a sort of hypnotism? I mean like, increased aggression, decreased intelligence..stuff like that. Is it even possible? I suppose rabies is quite like that. Also, if zombies were to exist, would they be slow, stupid, flesh eating and falling apart? Or would they be faster and stronger? I doubt there will be a definitive answer but it would be cool to hear all your theories, especially if someone knows anything about bio-science.bloody crack pots more

Resolved Question: Isn't this proof that Uri Geller couldn't be trusted by Jacko?

In a recent interview Geller stated that he had not told Jackson he was going to ask the questions under hypnotism and he didn't tell Jackson later when he had supposedly come out of the trance he had asked them "isn't this proof that Uri Geller was not to be trusted by Jacko" "So I put him into a trance and I confronted him under hypnosis I asked him, 'Michael, did you ever touch a child in an inappropriate manner?' And Michael answered immediately, 'No I would never do that.' "So I asked him, 'Why did you pay off Jordy Chander?' and he said, 'I had enough - I couldn't take it any more.' "I pulled him out of the trance - he never knew this - but to me this was a private validation that this poor man is innocent." or is this a total fabrication of an event that Geller ( the ever so honest man) says happened to reel in more monies for his bank account more

Yes i do have that dreaded habit or biting my nails, I've tried all of the solutions, like that horrid stuff you paint on your nails that tastes disgusting, but every time you wash your hands yu have to re-do it, cause it comes off. Resolved Question: What makes Jesus (the Christos) any different from Horus or Buddha?

A situation brought to light by the study of Comparative Religion and Mythology adds vast weight to the probability that the whole enormous body of psychological prestige exerted by the belief in the historical Jesus is grounded on a chimera and not on a fact. The events in the alleged life of Jesus are pushed closer and closer to the point of myth by the astounding fact that they are seen to match with nearly perfect fidelity the similar cycles of purely allegorical "events" in the allegoric and mythic representations of some sixteen or more earlier figures recorded in ancient sacred Scriptures of ancient nations. It is certainly to be regarded as more than strange that when the only-begotten Son of God did descend to earth to implant the ‘genius of the one true religion to save mankind’ his life only copied or matched in great detail the dramatized Sun characters or sun-gods of antecedent religions. And the earlier figures whose careers he repeated were definitely non-historical or at best legendarily semi-historical. The Christians of the third and fourth centuries were plagued to distraction by the recurrent appearance of evidence that revealed the disconcerting identity of the Gospel narrative in many places with incidents in the "lives" of Horus, Izdubar, Mithra, Sabazius, Adonis, Witoba, Hercules, Marduk, Krishna, Buddha and other divine messengers to early nations. They answered the challenge of this situation with the desperate allegation that the similarity was the work of the devil! The findings of comparative religion and mythology constitute at this epoch a far more meaningful challenge than they did in the third century, for there is the massive body of the Egyptian religious literature to increase the mountain of identities between Christian and antecedent pagan gospels and there is less of Christian hypnotism to overcome now than at the earlier era. In more formidable form than ever before the Christian proponents must face the open implications of the query that springs to mind out of these comparative religion discoveries; why, if the model life had already been proclaimed by numerous Avatars before Jesus - and he therefore had nothing new to add - was there a need for his passionate sacrifice at all? The model he displayed had already been on view in nearly every ancient nation for centuries! So far from being the climax and grand consummation of a series of ever fuller revelations, his advent was rather an anti-climaxSource paraphrased from .Alvin Boyd Kuhn - Who is this King of Glory - Chpii page 35 more

Resolved Question: What new products/treatments/services are out on the market for smokers who wish to break the habit ?

I am interested to know about any medical/psychological new treatments, products and services. we have nicotine gum, a nasal spray product, nicotine patches, nicotine lollypops etc etc and other non medical treatments are 'hypnotism' , and group sessions, educative literature etc. I believe that there is potentialy a surplus level of treatments and potential products waiting to hit the scene (be given the all clear) which would make quitting smoking effortless and practical, I really do. What goes on behind the curtains between governments, health care establishments, tobacco giants, illegal tobacco trade etc and how these entities influence the timing of arrival of these 'new treatments/products' is anybodies guess. Resolved Question: Have you ever tried hypnotism?

Hypnotism... A woman comes home and tells her husband, 'Remember those headaches I've been having all these years ? Well, they're gone.' 'No more headaches?' the husband asks, 'What happened ?' His wife replies, 'Angie referred me to a hypnotist & he told me to stand in front of a mirror, stare at myself and repeat, I do not have a headache I do not have a headache I do not have a headache Well, it worked ! The headaches are all gone.' 'Well, that is wonderful' proclaims the husband. His wife then says, 'You know, you haven't been exactly a ball of fire in the bedroom these last few years, why don't you go see the hypnotist and see if he can do anything for that ?' Reluctantly, the husband agrees to try it. Following his appointment, the husband comes home, rips off his clothes, picks up his wife and carries her into the bedroom. He puts her on the bed and says, 'Don't move, I'll be right back.' He goes into the bathroom and comes back a few minutes later and jumps into bed and makes passionate love to his wife like never before. His wife says, 'WOW ! - that was wonderful !' The husband says, 'Don't move ! I will be right back.' He goes back into the bathroom, comes back and round two was even better than the first time. The wife sits up and her head is spinning 'OH MY GOD' she proclaims. Her husband again says, 'Don't move, I'll be right back.' With that, he goes back in the bathroom. This time, his wife quietly follows him in the bathroom, she sees him standing at the mirror and saying ....
