is there a way to make someone dream something and then make them take a part of it for reality. as in can you insert a dream for someone to dream and then make them fell its true. an example such as they dream they love someone wake up and do love them .... almost like hypnotism. more

Open Question: am i the only one who has caught on to the hypnotism going on everywhere?

i thought i was crazy but i have noticed something very sneaky going on that i think is hypnosis. people will say something in a low voice in the background and then snap their fingers and cause others to respond to it. ive witnessed everything from people starting fights, causing others to go to sleep and i even saw a cashier cause a guy to wreck his car, she said u r about to wreck and snapped her finger he went outside and promptly went the wrong way down a one way at 12 noon he could see traffic coming at him before he even got on the road! (i wasnt the only one who saw that one) this middle aged guy told her i know what you did u r lucky i cant prove it ! but he walked out before i could talk to him. for 10 yrs i saw it in the navy. while working construction a guy mumbled relapse to a former drug user and snapped his finger a few days later she was back on drugs! the o. j. trial his lawer said "if the glove dont fit aquit" and snapped his finger OJ fumbled with the glove for a few and they let him go! its crayzy but thats how it works! am i the only one who sees this? more

basically, im really scared of the dark, right? but its worse than normal, i cant get to sleep for hours cause im scared someone is under my bed, or in the shower in my room, i darnt go in the bathroom or downstairs without turning every light on along the way, its worse because i sleepwalk and i end up anywhere, ive even ended up out in the front garden before. then when i wake up afterwards im angry at myself for being so pathetic and take it out on everybody who talks to me, ive screamed blue murder and ive even kicked one of my friends. only one friend is left now. and then im scared something will come back for me, you know with karma and everything, and then in the dark it starts all over again. ive tried physciatrists, councellers, everything, i even tried hypnotism once but it just made it worse. what can i do? more

I met someone who said he didn't realize that the hypnotism worked until he sat back and thought of the things that happened to him and his life after he listened to the hypnotism things. I'm trying to help a friend quit smoking. He's tried everything from hypnotism, the patch, lozenges, gum, inhaler, acupuncture, etc. At this point, I so desperately want him to quit--he's hurting himself and others around him by doing this. So, he asked me to help him find another option. I had heard from coworkers and friends who were heavy smokers, that e-cigarettes greatly helped curb their cravings and helped them gradually give up cigarettes altogether. My question is -- which is the best e-cigarette? I know there are many varieties...however the most important thing is a.) good battery life b.) it truly stops a craving -- the cartridges are strong enough to curb nicotine cravings c.) isn't the most expensive. And for those of you who have used these -- what is your experience? I think b/c at this point my friend NEEDS to quit (serious health issues), the e-cig combined with a quitting book (ex: Alan Carr's Book of Quitting Smoking) might help. He's been a smoker now for a number of years and smokes roughly 1-1.5 packs a day. Would this help him get over smoking? Also, how many of you gained weight after switching to e-cigs to quit smoking? Any help would be appreciated -- as i'm hoping this will aid my friend in quitting smoking soon!! more

I really want to quit, I feel gross for smoking as it tastes nasty, smells nasty, and makes my lungs ache!! But for some stupid reason I still enjoy it!! I don't spend much on tobacco as I only smoke between 5-8 a day of roll ups, so a 12.5g pouch lasts ages. I just want to know whether hypnotism is worth the couple hundred quid it costs!! Resolved Question: Atheists and Christians - Interesting Question?

Doesn't it just make sense that the only reason people believe in a god or gods is because psychologically, they take real, natural scientific things and personify them? Example: Christians think that, prayers which seem to be answered (prayers are vague and coincidently happen) healing (immune system, medicine, placebo effect) speaking in tongues (glossolalia) feeling god (euphoria) slain in the spirit (hypnotism and hypnotic trance) they think those are all pieces of evidence which in their heads concludes that their is a supernatural god doing all those things,.. but in reality, they are taking simple scientific things and psychologically personifying them into this god like image which doesnt exist. Its the same people who hear a noise in their house at night (perfectly natural, could be pipes etc) and in their heads they personify the noise by calling it a ghost.. am i on the right track? more

Major spoiler alerts, guys, if you haven't read them all I suggest not reading this, unless you want everything to be ruined. Did any of the changes anger you? I was upset with all of the casting of the girls, except for Aria. Especially Emily. The fact that it was only a year's time between Ali's disappearance bothers me also, a year is hardly enough time for them to get over it. And it's a small thing but the fact that they call Ali "Alison" bothers me, she seems like she was never called that. Also, do you think any of the changes will alter the ending? Since they were drinking the night that Ali died, how are they going to pull off the ending of the books, if they follow it? How the real Ali has them reenact the hypnotism is important, that's how she manages to leave and set the fire. Also, the hypnotism in general is important, because Ali and Spencer were supposed to have a major fight there.Spencer didn't do anything, none of the girls did.... And yes, I know about Courtney. I have seen stage performers hypnotize people (friends) and I have seen people who have been hypnotized to stop smoking, alcoholics to become sick after drinking even a drop of liquor/beer, and people who have hypnotic regression done to remember something that they have psychological block on, I have even experience road hypnosis while driving. But I consider that one extreme boredom mixed with exhaustion. But really just how far can a person be hypnotized? Is this something that is truly a "power" that some people have over others, or is it meanly people falling to the power of suggestion? If it is a skill/technique that people have how do they learn to do it? How far can a person be placed under hypnotic suggestion? Can you get someone to do something that is completely out of their nature; for instance, have an introverted person stand infront of a crowed room and moon everyone while whistling ode to joy. Or having a person who is afraid of birds to let a giant golden eagle to sit on the shoulder? Does anyone have experience with hypnotism, either clinically (meaning a psychiatrist or other mental health professional hypnotized you) or through some other means. What was your experience did you feel like you wear really hypnotized, did you remember it, what was your experience? im 16 and im considering going into one of these fields, but im not sure which id like more. i feel like there would be more call for a psychiatrist since they can prescribe meds, and im sure, most americans would rather have a little pill solve their problems than go through psychoanalysis, hypnotism, and what not. but there is just something so much more romantic about psychology. and honestly i think i would enjoy it more. but of course there are the salary differences. psychiatrist- 80k to150k, psychologist- 50k to 70k. plus if the health care thing happens, i could be earning even less than this. what do you think?to cs- i appreciate that you posted. i understand where you are coming from. i do not under any cicumstances believe that i know everything there is to know. that's precisely why i'm asking for advise. i apologize if i have offended you, but i am going to continue on my path to an occupation in mental healthcare. i'm going to assume that you are a psychiatrist or something that would authorize you to make the assumptions that you have about me. i thank you for your opinion. i only wish it were more helpful and less insulting.i definitely do put a high value on the monetary value of the jobs i look into, but its only because i want to be financially stable. i don't want to give you a sob story, but living with parents whose annual salaries are under 30k has widened my eyes to the value of money. i know that there are many way less fortunate than i, but i know its no fun to have to constantly worry about money. make no mistake, my main focus is doing something i love. which is why i'm going into something i find mysterious and exciting (though cs will probably think im an idiot). that is mental healthcare. more

Resolved Question: Overcoming a crippling fear?

As long as I can remember, I've had an absolute terror of cars and especially of driving. I get very nervous even in the passenger seat. A few years ago, when I was the right age, I tried to take lessons (it was more of a family thing than a personal one). I took twelve, and i *was* doing it, I was getting better, but the fear just never went away. For every hour lesson I'd end up crying for another hour afterwards. I shake so hard I move the wheel, so I gave it up. Lately, though, I've wanted to try again. This feels like a positive step, because *I* genuinely want it this time. My family will stop giving me stick about it, but mostly i want to prove to myself that i can get over this. I really don't have any other major fears, and there's no trauma in my past that explains this. Anyway, what I really want to ask is if anyone out there has ever had a similar experience, and if you ever got anywhere with it? I've tried everything more than meditation and short of valium, including hypnotism, but I'm always open to tips. Thanks very much. more
