Hello. I have Ubuntu 12.10. I have had it installed for about 4-5 months now. I have not used it in quite a while, so I decided to get on. I program in C++, so I needed a compiler. I opened the software center and looked for a compiler. I cannot download anything. Litteraly on every single app this is happening. I have tried updating the software center and restarting. Still no luck. First off, please no "TL;DR" answers. Secondly, let's pretend I haven't asked ANY other questions here on Y!A okay? So if you've seen me on here, ignore my past questions so you can give me an honest and sincere answer. I have been on a soul search for about 5 years trying to figure out who I am. I've researched online and did personality quizzes (those familiar with MBTI, I am an INFJ and my wife is an INFP) and had little success. I've researched AD/HD (a label I carry) and anxiety disorders (another label I carry) and had no success except to be aware of my limits. I've researched highly sensitive people and found more limits of mine but nothing to clearly define my identity. I've read self help books to help me understand introversion and help me understand my temperament but all it did was make me feel less inadequate but it didn't tell me the "skills" or "talents" that I possessed. I then started researching society, social norms, and the American culture/politics and things started to click... The reason I can't figure out my identity is because I don't have one! Sure, I have a name, and I have an age, and I have a multi-dimensional personality, but I really haven't created an identity for myself yet. I am a father, but I have not identified with other fathers and saw myself as an outcast. I am a husband, but I have not identified with other husbands and saw myself as an outcast. I am a male, but I have not identified with other males and saw myself as an outcast. See the pattern yet? I am more or less CHOOSING to exclude myself because I feel like an outcast; which feeling like an outcast is really another way of saying "I lack confidence and self esteem in my role". Of course my lack of self esteem and confidence isn't entirely my fault. Other people have told me that I'm lacking in these roles and I took their opinion very seriously because it's not like I worked up to being these roles; they were just given to me after I hit life's many milestones. I didn't choose to be a father, my son just kind of "got conceived" and then I never took the time to research or practice my role (the internet wasn't as robust as it is now when I did). I also didn't exactly choose to be a husband, I just fell in love with a woman and it just kind of happened because I didn't want to let her go; we even said vows and neither of us really knew what we were getting into. And lastly, I didn't exactly choose to be a man; I don't exactly appreciate the main stream concept of male either so I don't identify with it very well even if I tried. But you see, I had a huge "a-ha" moment today (gotta love that introverted intuition) and it kind of came to me that I can create my identity BEYOND my roles in life; and this identity can even develop into a passion that will score me a new direction in my life so I can finally know what career path I want to go down. You see, up to now, I really haven't shown any interest in things outside of my comfort zone because I didn't want to waste my time reading something that isn't going to matter. But now I realize that I am doing myself a huge disservice not exposing myself (or my kids) to outside possibilities because I could be identifying with these new things and enriching my life! How my marriage plays into this is my wife and I BOTH don't have identities. We both were bullied relentlessly growing up, both by our peers and by our parents, so we never really felt like we had the freedom to do this. And we met when I was 19, her 20 and have stayed together since; so it's not like we have been exploring our options either. We had our son 1 year after we met too, so that complicated things even more. Both of of us are scared to go against norms, expectations, rules, regulations, and our parent's teachings (whom were overbearing with their beliefs and never let us explore the world) so this is going to be hard for us, but I think we need to create our identities. Any suggestions on where to start? Do you think this could solve a dysfunctional marriage that has lost it's spark and we both would rather be alone introspectively rather than spend time together? When I turn it on, sometimes it will just give me a blank screen, the other day all of my programs weren't responding, this is something that keeps happening. Open Question: Hitman: Absolution crashes/Fatal DirectX Error?

My Hitman 5 game keeps crashing after a few minutes playing. It's either "stopped working" or Fatal DirectX Error". I managed through the first 10 missions but it's really annoying. I looked up some solutions on the internet. So far I've tried reinstall the graphic card driver, reinstall and update Steam, add Hitman: Absolution to Steam as a non-Steam game (I'm playing a cracked version). I found another solution which is disable the Desktop composition of the file HMA.exe, but I'm using Windows 8 and the option to disable Desktop composition no longer exists. My system is Core i5-2410M, 4GB RAM, VGA HD7650M, it's a laptop (Dell Vostro 3450). I'm playing the cracked version by SKIDROW with the update 1.0.438.0. Anyone know how to fix this, please help. And don't tell me to buy the game. If I could, I would. Many people who bought the game caught this problem anyway. more

My brother, who still lives at home (I don't) has been pretty crazy lately and it's getting worse. I know this because he rambles on his Facebook and it lines up when I visit home. I've told my parents to keep an eye on him but they pretend not to notice. My other adult siblings and I think it's because he was their spoiled favorite child growing up (yes they did play favorites and did not hide it) and now of they admit he has a problem they feel like they will admit to being crappy parents. I think it's a little too late for the pettiness and am contemplating taking matters into my own hands to get him committed. A little idea of how he's behaving is that he's become obsessed with 'fasting' because he believes people don't need food or water to survive and talks about sweating in the son and saliva is all the water he needs. He spends all his money on rocks that some dude from the Internet tells him are magical, and he believes he can control the weather with his mind. I don't mind all the magical bs, but the part that worries me is the food plan, like the mention on his Facebook that he's down to 500 calorie meals per two days, or the remarks about the color of his urine being dark because they are toxins leaving his body. This most concerning part is that he's commented about believing that his body can't die but only go to the 5th dimension out in space to fight the illuminati or something so he's convinced there's no need to be concerned about the indication dark urine or food deprivation has along with the final result. It makes me so mad that no one in my family has stepped in. I feel let down by them because they're too awkward or prideful to get him the help he needs. Should I start printing things out as 'evidence' and taking pictures around my parents house to document it all? Do I need to get a lawyer in order to get him in a hospital for assessment? How can I go about this?I forgot to mention that I have tried talking to him to get info on what he's doing to himself, but he won't talk to me because he does not trust me.Coincidently I work for the Feds (researcher)... A couple of weeks ago, I found a strand of hair that was half white-ish (from the root) and the rest my natural dark hair color. Today I found another. When I got back from school, I noticed that my laptop was open, and I was certain I had left it closed before I left for school. And since I was in a hurry, I forgot to hibernate it, so even when the lid's been shut all day, when it's open, it will automatically open my desktop (I don't need to type my password in, etc) I thought this was very suspicious, so I looked at my internet history, and it said, at 11 am (while I was at school) facebook was opened, and it said my messages with my boyfriend was open. I am literally freaking out, because the most recent messages with my boyfriend were sexual, and my mum doesn't think we are even doing sexual stuff. So now she knows, and will probably kill me. How can I get MS Word like Synonyms functionality by just right clicking on a word which is in browser text and then in right click pop-up list of Synonyms for that word I have tried Chrome Add-on “Thesaurus Extension 1.1” but when I right click on browser word it takes me on different page for synonyms (so actually it is getting synonyms from internet) and in that case it is not that much fast and easy, even when you are off line and reading browser pages then it won’t work I want something which is associated with browser and by just right click on browser text in pop up it shows synonym for that word just like MS Word Synonyms functionality. I rent a studio from my landlady and since I'm using her phone and cable lines, my only option for internet is through her provider. For some reason, my computer and other devices (also my friends, not just mine) either can't connect to her network, or when it does connect, it says that it doesn't recognize the IP address and I can't go online. I've had many people look at my computer and have no answer, so I need to find my own source of unlimited internet for my place since my landlady's isn't working. Are there any other options? I have a hp workstation xw4100 desktop. I have a laptop too. The situation is that my desktop computer has internet..I just can not connect to the internet. I am a customer with suddenlink and they have been called and discovered that it was not their modem..it was my desktop computer. I do not see my modem on the desktop when I look at the phone/modem in the control area. How do I get my desktop connected to the internet and get my modem on it too because I feel like that is why I am not getting connected to the internet.
