I filled out an online application and was scheduled to go to an appointment. Everyone who was there had their name on a list along with 6 digits of their social security number blacked out with only the last 4 digits exposed. My name wasn't on the list. I was told I had the job but I asked myself how they would contact me if they only knew my name and nothing more..Needless to say, 5 weeks later...No call or e-mail. I went home the same day of the appointment and noticed that the application NEVER asked for my Social Security Number. I tried and tried to find the area where it would ask for it but I just cant find it. I got another e-mail today asking me to schedule another appointment. This morning I recieved a phone call from a tele-marketing company and a lady told me I won a $1000 gift card for an online shopping spree. She convinced me that it was really legit and that I didn't have to pay for anything. I have recently been online looking at a site referenced to me for free samples ( I think it was freebies.com). There were a lot of extra steps to each process and I found out the hard way and ended giving like a bunch of site my address and number thinking I would get something in return. Anywho back to the point the lady asked me my age and then hung up. For what I don't know. As I thought about it, if she had my social security number (which I didn't give out) or something she could find out my date of birth. I found it really odd that she didn't give me anymore details and just hung up and I'm really worried now. I'm currently 15 years old and will be 15 1/2 in October 2010. Where I live (California) you can get your permit when you're 15 1/2 and to recieve the permit, you have to: -Complete a Driver License or Identification Card Application form -provide your social security number -provide your true full name -present birth certificate and proof of legal presence -submit proof of driver education completion and proof of driver training -pay the application fee -take a written test so i get all that you have to do, but i don't quite understand the order in which i go about doing all this. I assume I do the test and all the proof blablabla when I get there, but do I take the class before I apply for a permit? I found a legitimate class online that I could take instead of going in to take the classes because I don't have much time to come in to the classes. Or do I enroll myself in the classes, get my permit, and THEN take the classes? The order of the class and training in this process is what confuses me most. please help :) thank you. more

In 2004, I was a Sophomore in college. I did very well my first year and was on the Dean's List. But my second year, I was in a bad car accident a week after classes started. I was hospitalized for a week and nobody contacted my school to let them know. I was on financial aid and a scholarship but to keep your financial aid and scholarship, you can't miss more than 3 days of school. I checked my records (with the college) online and it stated I withdrew from classes. I did not call the school right away because I needed surgery and was on medication so I was not thinking clearly. I only attended 6 days of school total and knew I wasn't going to be able to attend the rest of the semester. I assumed at the time that my financial aid would just drop and I wouldn't have to pay the remainder of my semester. I never applied for a loan, however I agreed that if I did not get full financial aid benefits then I'd be interested in receiving a loan to pay for classes, which I must pay back. I did not apply for the loan and never gave my bank info out. But the school automatically signed me up for a loan to cover the costs of my semester. I did not go through a bank but instead a third party student loan organization affiliated with my school. They automatically signed me up for a loan and I didn't get notified or receive any letter in the mail or anything. Six months after I dropped from classes I did get a booklet in the mail with what looked like coupons that I must rip out one each month and mail it along with a check for $287 to Great Lakes Financial Services (student loans). I had no idea what that was at the time and just threw it away thinking it was spam. I never got an actual bill and that was kind of the loan offices "style" to make the bills look like cute little coupon books. I have been wanting to go back to school for a long time but I can't afford it and I'd need to get fafsa again. I can't get fafsa if I have an unpaid loan wit the school. I am willing to apply for a loan if I could- to attend school. But my total semester fees were a little over $2,000 that I'm supposed to owe since fafsa didn't pay for it. But I only went to school one week at like $60 a credit hour. Six months ago, my unpaid loan fees were finally added to my credit report. My credit report shows I only owe $287 for my student loan. I contacted my college and they say they can't access my account because it was closed and I needed to contact the loan agency. They told me I could just find out online and gave me the website, where I entered my social security number and birthdate and I could find out. So I logged in and looked up my account summary and it says "There is no application or loan information on our system for you at this time". It shows I owe nothing to them. But my credit report says I owe $287 for my loan when I know it should have been $2,000+. Is it possible that I only have to pay the credit hours that I attended? If I paid $287 to the credit bureau, it it possible I could go back to school and get a loan or financial aid to help cover that? I read there is no refunds after classes start. So how much do I really owe? more

Now adays with the internet, and companies buying and selling your information, and selling itto whoever pays them money, including criminals that want your digits, is congress gonna start taking actions to protect our personal information? I mean you can pay some company a few dollars and get a person social security number , birth date, phone number, DL number, all the information you need to set up a fake identity and start a bank account and go to town with it. I just got a letter in the mail saying that i owe washington mutual money for an account. I haven't had a washington mutual account in over 6 years. Then I find out the account number they had didn't even match my washington mutual account number, and the people on the phone were trying to get me to give them the rest of my social security number, they already had the first 4 digits. I quickly came to the conclusion that they were trying to scam me out of money or steal my identity. I knew I didn't owe washington mutual any money, and they went out of business anyhow, I just wanted to confirm when this account was active so I could be sure somebody had not already stolen my identity and started an account in my name. Something needs to be done, it is too easy for people to get online and pay for our information, and there are people out there that are preying on americans because it is this easy to get away with it.I'm curious , how much is the fraud alert thing? I recommended that to my dad when he was telling me about how some chinese company scammed him out of his credit card information, and he said it cost too much.well, half of those things you mentioned people can get online from one of those sites that somehow manage to get all our information and make a data base out of it... Hi, as the title says, I just got a phone call from a man with a very heavy accent (something Johnson), saying he's from the law & investigations office. He said I was under fraud, and he mentioned the last 4 digits of my social security number, as well as the street I live on. He said there was a pending law suit against me for fraud and other criminal activities. I can't for the life of me think of how I have committed any sort of fraud. The reason I say it's fishy, is he didn't say this is from the so and so police department, or mention any kind of affiliation like a firm or anything. He only left me a number (anonymous land line, I checked) to call him back at. Now the information such as my telephone number, house address, and even my social could probably be found relatively easily online. Does ANYONE have experience with this? Okay so here's the deal. Apparently, in the SSA system, my first name was combined with my middle name. I was unaware of this because the name on my social security card was right but they had it wrong in their system. So when I applied to college, I used the name on my SS card. However, when I applied for my fafsa, they couldn't verify my number with my name because they had it wrong in the system. I found this out so I filed my fafsa under the name they had in the system. I thought everything would be fine because my school got the information and sent me my financial aid package. Now, when I try to borrow the stafford loan that was offered to me in my financial aid package, the school couldn't verify the information because the loan is under a different name. I went to the SSA office to try and correct my name, and I've heard that they could easily verify it with DHS online but they couldn't for me. You think they're gonna reject me? I need to get this changed quickly because I need to borrow the loan before a certain date. more

Ok, I talked to a MI divorce attorney and he told me that he would have to look up the law about me getting alimony, pension, and insurance from my husband of 15 years. My husband has had a girlfriend throughout our marriage who is 7 years older than I am and when we separated he moved in with her. I am mentally and physically disabled and I have been receiving Social Security Disability since Jan 2003, and I am unable to work. I have been disabled since birth. I know that a lady whose attorney made her husband pay for her education. I am taking online classes but my Stafford Loans will be running out within 1 1/2 years from now so can I also have the attorney who I'm thinking about hiring ask for my husband to pay for my education so I can receive my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He was extremely controlling and he is over 14 years older than I am, and when I did not do what he wanted me to do than he would leave and sometimes take all of my clothes with him including the car and leave me stranded without no money and sometime with little money. He even took $1,000 of my unemployment check when I first received unemployment one time it was over $2,700, because unemployment made me wait for over 6 weeks to receive my first check. He waited until I took a shower and did this to me. I did report him to the local police and they put an alert out over 50 states to find him. He left me in Charlotte, NC, that time, he left me in Atlanta, GA, when he left me with little me I think maybe $40.00 to last for one week. We were living in Atlanta, GA, and working at the CNN Center and Georgia State University. He made me quit my both of my jobs in Atlanta, GA, and move to Indianapolis, IN, where he went when he left me than he waited until I went to work and left and went to Jacksonville, FL. He called that punishment because I would not do what he wanted me to do. When I reported him to the police in two cities they told me that they believed he must had been on drugs to do things like this. We have been separated since 10/25/98, because he mentally and emotionally abused me and he use to leave me whenever I did not do what he wanted me to do. Once again, he's over 14 years older than I am and he thought that he was my father instead of my husband. I have 4 children but they are not biologically his and I gave them away at birth. My oldest was born before I met him. My other 3 children, was born in May 2000, Oct 2002, and July 2006. My husband lives with his girlfriend because I talked to him a few years ago and that is what he told me. I called my mother-in-law in Sweden who gave me his telephone number but she called him before I got a chance to talk to him. My Swedish Phd degree Organic Scientist husband makes over 8 times more than what I make. He makes $57,000 a year and my Social Security Disability is only $9,408 a year. When I talked to him over the phone in January 2007, he told me that his girlfriend posed as me at immigration office in the state where he lives to get a visa to go back to his country for a visit. He also told me that he had his girlfriend signed immigration documents stating that she was me and that we lived together. This was back in December 2005, when he did this. Before we moved from MI to the south, he had his girlfriend steal my MI ID, my birth certificate and my Social Security number. In Aug 2000, before I got a telephone I had to show prove of my identification with the phone company because my husband's girlfriend had taken over my identity. I am currently studying in the USA and I am expected to graduate in 2011 as an electrical engineer. Even though i am satisfied with my education, I would like to go to a graduate school to learn more about renewable energy. I am applying for a freelance writing opportunity that I found on craigslist, so I am aware of the high risk that it is indeed a scam. The only personal information that they are asking for is my paypay email address (they pay you through paypal) and general contact information. Resolved Question: I received a "Notice of Determination of Invalid Claim, section 1277" HOW SHOULD I DO?

I have been unemployed since 04/16/09 and the only income my UI benefits. My UI been started week 04/12/09 to expired on 04/10/10, My first claim balance was getting $0 on end of November 2009, but new claim continue to automatically then second claim balance was getting $0 on end of March also claim continue to automatically. and then I received last Claim check on first week of April. after this payment claim balance was 4050.00. And then I sent my last claim form on 04/25/10. On 05/03/10 I received an ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS from EDD CA. It say, Please follow the instructions below. "Failure to do so may result in denial of your benefis." Please include your name and Social Security number on any additional forms you MAIL to the EDD. 1. You are potentially eligible to file a new claim effective 04/11/10. You may apply on-line at WWW.EDD.CA.GOV or call the 1-800-telephone numbers abobe for assistance to complete the filing of your claim. After 2 weeks I've tried to talk to representative call EDD, but NEVER reached it. On 05/17/10 finally I reached representative, I said " I received an ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS, I want file a new claim. She said "Why you dont call us long time", but she helped me file a claim by phone. She asked "Social Security number, Name, Address, Phone number, When you last work day......a line cuts suddenly. I tried to call EDD NEVER REACHED. Sameday, I found on EDD.CA.GOV. " You can apply for the federal extended benefits online using the same application that is used for regular unemployment benefits. To apply, click the continue button below and complete the entire application. " Finally, I've filed new claim on 05/17/10. And On 05/20/10 I received "NOTICE OF DETERMINATION OF INVALID CLAIM, SECTION 1277". It says, In order tohave a valid claim, section 1277 requires that you were paid or earned at least $1300 as an employee in one quarter during the period from 04/12/09 to 04/10/10 and performed some work; or th you were paid or earned at least $900 as an employee inthe quarter of your highest earnings and earned at least 1.25 times your high quarter earnings the above period and performed some work. My UI benefits been from income based until I lost job (before 04/16/09). then this federal extention is to my expired regular UI. How I could earn $1300 or $900 after lost job? I am unemployed only I earn income from my UI benefit. This is President Obama signed FEDERAL EXTENDED BENEFITS. Was not Benefits extented up to 99 weeks? Why State denied this extention? I asked this question the other night but i forgot my sons age. My son is 3 years old i found out that i can't do a credit report online for him since he is under the age of 13. I was wondering if anyone can help me out on what else to do.. Well I have a son the father doesn't have any contact with him. The problem i have is that the father has his social security number , he got that information from the hospital. Well before i had my son my ex (the father on my child) had an apartment didn't pay his bills now his water, lights, gas and telephone bills are all OVERdue he lives with his parents now. I heard that he is getting a place of his own but he wouldn't be able to get anything under his name since he owes back bills that he still didn't pay because for just a water bill he owes over $300. I've heard from him and his family that he will take my sons social security number and use my sons name and place bills under my child's name. How can i find out if this is happening and can this happened? What can i do if he does this because i know a old neighbor that did this do their kids that put bills in there names and i am worried that this will happen since there was already a threat that he will do it. I myself has been going through identity theft someone used my social # for a house mortgage i have contact the police put fraud alerts of everything. Still can't find no help. I am over 23years old and I STILL can't get a credit card or any loans. Yes i have bills in my name but i can't get nothing else like with any type of credit. A distant relative of mine... ...they recently filed all of their paperwork(I-130, I-485..all that good stuff)...and now that they think that everything is just a matter of time..but I THINK that they have a lot more to consider!! I'm trying to be optimistic, but on a serious note...it just doesn't look good... I'll save the "story" and here's the scenario... SHE, wife #2(US resident) is petitioning for adjustment of permanent U.S .status for HIM(visa overstayer of 5+ yrs) by way of their marriage. -HE was previously married an online acquantaince of 2 months(wife #1)...that marriage went under once she realized that the $$money$$ HE promised to give her was a lie.( ridiculously YES, it was an intended green card marriage with future HOPE of a LOVE marriage)....they annulled the marriage after a month or two. At the time of the marriage1...they lived 300 miles apart..and when they got married..they drove to another city and state 500+ miles away(atlanta, GA) that neither of them lived in or near in order to get married(why? i don't know). On top of that..the online/green card/acquaintance-turned-wife #1 was ALREADY married to another man at the time. -HE met wife2 online while he was still married(yet separated) to wife1 and wife 2 eventually found out. Wife2 still stayed with him....HE annulled the marriage w Wife1 and now HE and wife2 are married. They also drove to the same city to get married as HE did so with wife1..which is also about 500 miles away from where HE and wife2 currently live.(why? i still don't know) -On top of that..his current wife2 doesn't make anywhere near the income requirements, nor do they have a sufficient co sponsor. -HE dsn't like wife2..he just wants his green card, but she is so insecure and lonely that something in her head feels loved by him...even though he goes absolutely NO WHERE with her..they take no pictures..he just has sex with her..and she buys him unnecessary jewelry, clothing, and stuff..and he takes her little bit of money and sends it back home to his family. -It took them a year and a half ish to even come up with the money for the applications...NOW..they've turned them in..and now that they've got a cpl NOTICES OF ACTION..... my mother's former boss gave me and my brother a gift of $200,000 to be used for college expenses. My mother set up a UTMA account with vanguard and put herself as the custodian and me as the minor. It is under my social security number and i pay taxes on the dividends. I am 21 and she has never let me see statements on it or anything. I recently got curious and set up an online account with vanguard to look at my balances. It said that yesters 4/19 thats $20,000 worth of stock was sold. I had no knowledge of this at all. I researched online and found that the age of consent in NJ is 21 and i am 21 and i know she will not sign over her rights. I just called Vanguard and they told me she had to sign but according to the law that is bullshit. They are researching and said they will call me back today on what is going on. I opened up my first checking account in the summer of '09. I did not handle my finances very well and went over $862 (including fees). The bank gave me two months to pay off the debt. I couldn't pay it off and they closed down the account in December. They said it was standard procedure to report the account to chexsystems. So up until now I thought I was on chexsystems. I went on the chexsystem's website and ordered a report form to see what they have listed about me. I got the report a week ago and saw that every field listed "NO INFORMATION FOUND". It did have my social security number on the paper but, I think that is just for identification purposes. Additional Details I opened up a online checking account with Bank of America a couple weeks ago and they approved me. I still have the account. I know Im late in doing my taxes. I found my W-2 form from my work online. I moved last August. Here is what Ive done in the last year: -Until last May I was in school and worked at a restaurant in Oklahoma. -I worked in another city in Oklahoma part time at a lab. -I moved to Illinois around August and started an hourly job in a University lab shortly after moving. This is where I currently work and where I received my W2 forms electronically from (I just printed them off). Ive never had to do Taxes before and I'm registering for another job that requires government clearance so I REALLY need to do them right.. My dad has been skipping out on child support payments on 4 kids for some time now. I haven't seen him in almost 3 years and it is like he just disappeared off the face of this earth. He was paying for a short time, abruptly stopped, and then never heard of him again. The attorney generals say that they cant find him. i know the jist of his where-a-bouts through online searching websites and a family friend who works for the state that was able to uncover a residental address. If my friend was able to do uncover this address, why wasn't the attorney general? Wtf is up with that? Seriously? when i used a search engine to search for his residental address 2 people came up. they are both definetly him, and i know this, because listed under each name it shows his former spouses name (my mom) and his relitives. There is only one difference between these two people is their age. one is 38 (real age) and one says he is 89 (false age). these are definetly the same people due to the spouses' name. the relatives listed, and old residences listed that i used to live with him at. (the same basic information occurs or both of them except his age) How is he falsifying information? Could he be using a different social security number? like changing one digit to avoid child support from being taken out of his monthly paycheck? or is there some other way he coud be doing this? From what i know he has a job at the time (hear-say from his side of the family), so how is he avoiding this? Do you have any ideas on how i could find them.(although i do have an address not sure if its acurate) when i do find him how do i prove he has a job and is not paying? Do i do a stake out and take pictures of him at work or what? Atm he owes us about $10,000 in back child support. We are struggling with monney bad. I'm going to give the briefest explanation of my situation as possible. In September of 2008, I had just ended a long term relationship and was upset and went out drinking with a "friend" (or so I thought he was) that I'd known for 2 years. I got wasted and we ended up sleeping together. - Don't judge me, I regret that decision very much and I know it was a stupid thing to do - A few weeks later I found out I was pregnant. I knew that there was a SLIM possibility that the baby belonged to my ex, but I knew in my heart that the friend, "J", was the father. I told J I was pregnant and he basically told me to abort or he wanted nothing to do with me or the baby. I refused to do so and carried my child. I had a high-risk pregnancy and could not work, I had to move back home 4 hours away to live with family. In June, I gave birth to a BEAUTIFUL baby boy whom I adore and love with all my heart. The ex and I remained friends and communicated throughout my pregnancy. He was there a few hours after my son was born and stayed with us a few days. I wanted so badly for the ex to be the father, simply because I knew he was a great guy and wouldn't abandon his child. We had a DNA test done and 2 weeks later the results came back and said 0% chance of paternity. No, there is no other possibility. Even the chance of the ex being his dad was a bit of a stretch considering the dates. So, the only conclusion is that J is his biological father (despite how much I hated this to be true). July 2009, J up and left where I was previously living and quit his job and moved back to Texas (didn't know until a few months later). I tried multiple times to contact him with no response. Times are rough and frankly I feel that J should be equally responsible for our child, so in October I filed for child support giving what LITTLE information I had and what I could find online. J got married last December and I know where he is living (well, the general are) and what company he works for, but uncertain of the exact location. I have a little bit of information, but nothing crucial like a social security number. I have his full name, DOB, a potential home address found online, his wife's name and their date of marriage, the name of the company he works for, his "daughter's" name (which when I first met him, he lied and told me the kid wasn't his, then a month after my son is born he runs back to Texas then ends up married to the kid's mom and the kid has his last name?) ... So, I have this little bit of information and provided it to the child support office, yet he hasn't been located or served - I filed 5 1/2 months ago! I've attempted contacting J several times online and he refused to respond to me... Until I discovered he'd gotten married and sent him a message asking if his new wife knew he had a son? ... He got angry and called me a crazy, psycho bitch basically denying my son was his. I have offered, on more than one occassion, to pay for a DNA test. He refuses. He says he wants to give up his rights to my son... And a few times, I considered allowing him to do so, just to get the loser out of my life and my son's life... but when I ask for an address to send papers to, he refuses to give it to me. So, I'm stuck. What do I do? He's nearly 1000 miles away from me and I can't get any more information that what I already have and have given the child support office. It's been almost 6 months and I've heard absolutely nothing! Should I close my case in the state I live in and reopen in Texas? Would they be able to help more since HE lives there. So my fiance is getting the sex change (we aren't romantic lovers or anything, we are just best friends who happen to be engaged) and he has been thinking about the sex change for a few years. He did all the research he could and he knows the risks of it all. He knows what he has to do in order to get to where he needs to be. However, some questions weren't answered. I was wondering if anyone knew the answers to these specific questions: 1. Will he get a new social security number after the surgery? 2. Will he have to go to another state to get the surgery done? (some say it's cheaper in Colorado) 3. Does he NEED health insurance? (I mean if health insurance wont pay for cosmetic surgery then why would he need it?) 4. How long will he be taking estrogen pills before the surgery? 5. Will he be taking other medications other than estrogen? If so, what kind? How long? How much? 6. What is the dosage amount of estrogen and/or other medications? He is five foot, seven inches tall and he weighs 130 lbs. (if that helps at all) 7. How long would the hospital stay be? Long story short...I have a long lost niece who I've been trying to find for many years. Background: she was adopted after my brother died and his girlfriend/baby's mother lost custody due to drug issues. My sister was able to find her baby announcement and her social security number. The problem: we're almost 100% certain that she was adopted and possibly may have been adopted out-of-state. So we don't have any record of what her new name would be or where. I just found out yesterday that the Graduate School I applied to has a student ID for me. Asking around it sounds like they generally do this for the students they've accepted into the programs to stay "one step ahead" (I was told this multiple times by different staff members). But, when I called the admissions office of the program, she said that online applications automatically provide numbers to help keep track of applicants. To me, this doesn't make sense considering every form I've had to fill out asked for my Social Security Number, rather than give me this new number to use (which would make sense for filing purposes). She explained that they look you up with this ID number and/or your last name...Do you think she was feeding me a line so as to hold off me knowing that I was accepted or not? Or does anyone know if this is standard procedure for colleges/universities? What am I to think? Should I be celebrating or should I be looking towards another acceptance letter from a different college? If this helps: I am currently working on a small project with the professor that I would like to have as my advisor and know several students that are already in the program and like me. The main Grad student that works with her is graduating in a year or so, and so they would need to start getting fresh blood in...BUT I found out that there were over 240 applicants and they only accept 6 into the program. more

According to my court order, it's my son's biological father's turn to claim my son on his taxes. Problem is, I have not heard from him since my son was nine months old (now 37 months). Child support goes in directly but it's automatically withdrawn from his job. I've tried to contact him to find out if he claimed my son but the only information I have on him is where he works (I keep touch with his family but he severed all ties with them). I don't think he even has my son's social security number to claim him.. If I file online will it just reject my claim if he already claimed him? After all, it's not like knowing ones age will allow you to find ones house or steal money from bank accounts. If a girl said, online, that she was 16, what are the risks? There are plenty of 16-year-old girls out there; it's not a specific code, like an address or social security number. Also, one can accurately estimate a person's age just by looking at him/her; the same doesn't apply for credit-card numbers and addresses. Resolved Question: Why are there accounts on my husband's credit report that belong to someone else?

Earlier this weekend, my husband received a phone call from his sister, stating that his student loans were placed on her credit report. Because we were nervous, we immediately checked his credit report online through Equifax. Come to find out, there are several medical and credit accounts opened and now closed by Collection agencies showing on his report. We have contacted the Collection agencies and they were able to verify that the accounts are under his sister's name. The information runs from 2007 through the present month. My husband's Social Security Number differs from his siblings by one number. Despite the chance of being a "mix-up" from the agencies, we strongly believe this may not be a mistake, but fraud. How do her accounts appear on HIS credit report, if HER name is used? Would she have had to sign up for the accounts using his Social Security Number? What steps can we take to verify this information? What steps can be done to make sure this doesn't happen in the future? more
