Resolved Question: 08 Dodge Charger SXT Exhaust?

I have one muffler (flowmaster super 44) with dual out. The sound reminds me of a civic with one of those universal mufflers on it. Any suggestions of how i could really get my charger to sound like muscle car. Also if i purchase an air intake and jba headers would this change the sound coming out my exhaust? more

Resolved Question: Would my 1987 Dakota v6 be too loud in utah if i put a 3'' exhaust on it?

i want to put a 3'' exhaust on my 87 dakota, that includes edelbrock shorty headers that both will go into a single universal 3'', 3way catalytic converter, that will go into a flowmaster super 44 muffler with a single 3'' inlet and dual 2.5'' oulets, then from there straight out the back. i know i want to get rid of the stock 2'' converters, pipes and muffler Or ill do the same thing with a 2.5'' converter and a 2.5'' in/ dual out muffler depending on my options will this be too loud and illegal in utah? or will this be "overkill" thanks for any input (P.S., If youre gonna ask "is it worth it" or anything negative like that please just keep to yourself, i love my truck, it has very high sentimental value.) more

Resolved Question: Why does my 1987 Dakota v6 have two catalytic converters?

Why does my dakota have two converters? I know one is a pre converter and the other is a main converter. One is right off of the passenger side manifold and the other is not far behind it. Now i know that those just rob Hp and i want my truck to be a faster and sound better. Can i just buy a universal 3 way catalytic converter and eliminate one of them? I would really like to know because i plan on putting on a whole new exhaust system. Performance headers that will both go into a 2.5'' or 3'' universal 3 way catalytic converter then from there into a dual 2.5'', or a single 3'' muffler then out the side in front of the passenger tire. I'm not sure yet because i don't know whats legal and if i can get rid of one of my converters. I just need to know if i can get rid of my pre and main converters and buy one that does both jobs to free up the flow of the exhaust. Also would it be better to go with the 2.5'' dual or the 3'' single all the way from the catalytic converter to the back? Voting Question: Muffler info please. Why does mufflers sound the way they do?

Hi, I have a few questions I'm looking for the answers for. I will number them and if you don't know all the answer then you can answer one+ question. All the questions I'm asking are about performance/high flow mufflers and the cars they go on. Thanks! 1: Why do imports with aftermarket exhaust sound the way they do? The popping and buzzing sound, that sounds like something loose in the muffler. I was looking at an import style muffler today, and it looks like a magnaflow muffler on the inside, Straight through and fiberglass packed around the walls. I seen nothing about the muffler that would make it sound any different then a normal glasspacked muffler. So what make the buzzing & pop sound? Is it the motor or the muffler? (not talking about quiet oem mufflers) 2: What would the sound be like if you put an import style muffler on a v8 car with rear mufflers. ? (ie: 84-96 corvettes or 93+ camaro have rear mufflers) 2.5: Same thing just backwards, what would the sound be like if you put a normal performance muffler on an import? (glassed packed and chambered) 3: What types of mufflers are they? only types of mufflers I can think of are chambered like a flowmaster, and glasspacked walls like a magnaflow, and glass packed with tubes. 3.5: Are they other muffler types? I'm trying to find out info on exhaust systems, I'm in the market for a better sounding exhaust on my 94 6spd corvette. Today I looked at the polished magnaflow cat-bak system and was impressed until the muffler shop showed me an off brand universal import muffler. They both had single in/dual outs, both where polished, with polished dual wall exhaust tips and both where the same looking on the inside. Both where straight through type mufflers with glass-packed walls. So now I'm re-thinking my whole exhaust theory. I thought import mufflers had some kind of "rattler", lose parts or hollow case that make them sound like crap. Today I had five mufflers in front of me to inspect. I had the corvette magnaflow, a universal magnaflow, A universal dynomax, The universal polished import muffler, And a universal flowmaster. Both magnaflow mufflers, Dynomax muffler and import muffler looked very similar inside. And the magnaflow and import muffler shared the same 5x8 oval case, and the dynomax had a more flat case. The flowmaster was a 3 chambered muffler so it was completely different inside and I understand why it would have a different tone. But the other 4 being SOOOO close to the the same inside and out, what would make the tone change? I could see how more dense packing could change the sound, and how the overall shape could effect it. But I believe they would all be minor changes. so that is the big question! In glass packed "straight through" mufflers, What sets the tone apart from muffler to muffler, to the brand? thanks for your time!******************************************** Ok Im well aware of exhaust kits avl for the c4 corvette. like the SV650, if you change the headlight and murder it out. But I'm not really in a financial situation to just go out and buy one. I was thinking over winter to build my own. I would use a bigger CRF50 china copy alumnium frame with 12" wheels F+R. (32" seat height) 160cc GPX Crate engine, with a 30mm carb(not included), 18front 30rear sprockets. Swap the handlebars for universal clip ons Cut and reupholster the seat, then weld up a rear section that looks like a GSX'Rs. Weld up a tank cover and bolt in on the plastic one. Bondo, shape & paint it all flat black or metallic blue 12" Dunlop race supermoto tires Buy LED lighting for rear, acerbis diamond headlight assembly for the front Buy a two brothers exhaust and chop it so it's aligned in the center (duals?$) Universal speedometer kit, mirrors, LED turn signals front fender, welded bondoed and painted Steering damper Is it worth it? I'm looking for a cat. back dual exhaust system for a 1990 Dodge Ramcharger. Dynomax no longer makes it due to low demand. They said I would have to go to a custom shop. JC Whitney products are very universal and don't have the custom pipes. Custom shops are SO expensive. Any thoughts? more

hi, I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9 I'd like to increase horsepower and torque. I have a flowmaster on it now and just bought a universal magna flow catalytic converter along with ngt (i believe) o2 sensors. I replaced the o2 sensors but have to modify the piping for the cat. would it be better to just save money and get true dual exhaust. the other thing also I'd like to put headers on it would i improve anything with headers, the universal cat, and flowmaster, or do the true dual instead? more
