Voting Question: How do i use dual monitors in Windows 7?

My video card has two DVI outputs. I've connected one straight to my monitor, and I've put an HDMI adapter on the second DVI output on my video card. I then attached the HDMI cable from my computer to my stereo system, which is attached to my television. What I want to do is watch a movie (that's on my hard drive) on my TV and work on my computer at the same time. What settings do I need to use? I tried changing the display settings and the only thing I can seem to get to work is by choosing 'extend display settings'. Then I start the movie and slide it over to the TV and it works that way, but I know there's a better way of doing it. I'm using Windows Media Player and because I'm extending the desktop basically, the movie never goes to 'absolute' full screen because I'm always moving the mouse around. Isn't there another way I can set this up? more

Resolved Question: Can i connect my laptop to multiple wireless routers at once?

I have a laptop and very soon i will be going to college and installing a wireless router in my dorm room, and my roommate might do the same. The school monitors internet usage, so i dont want him accessing the internet on mine, thus the dual router setup. however, we might be trying to share a wireless printer configured with my wireless router. I can configure my router to let him access the printer, but not the internet. Question is, is can he set up his laptop with multiple connections... to have one connection connecting to his router and the internet, and the other connection to my router, my printer, and no internet. I've seen in the control panel for windows it lists like "Wireless connection", "Wireless connection 2", and such, but i havent been able to figure out how to connect each one individually. I've googled it, but have only gotten posts like "Connect two routers together wirelessly". tl;dr: Wireless laptop, connect it to two wireless routers at once? Thanks for all your help! more

Resolved Question: Multiple displays not working in windows xp with nvidia 8800gt?

This problem first occurred when my friend came over and we were going to watch a movie on my hard drive on my HDTV. I recently upgraded my video drivers. For the first time, when I went to the Nvidia control panel and selected DualView, then I tried all of the other settings (stretch, clone, etc). nothing happened, no picture on TV. This problem could have been caused by any number of things other than the new drivers, but it is the only thing I remember changing since the last time I used the dual monitor feature. My video card has two DVI ports, one with a VGA converter for my CRT monitor, and the other with a converter to HDMI, and out to my TV. Well, after uninstalling all my video drivers, and then using a program called driver sweeper to remove any traces of them in the registry or temp files, I reinstalled old video drivers I know for sure have had dual view working before, but I still can't get any picture on the TV, monitor is fine, and the Nvidia control panel does detect both displays properly. I thought the port may have gone bad so I tried both the TV and the Monitor in each of the two slots by themselves and it all worked, but when I plugged in two at the same time, neither had any picture till I unplugged one of them. I restarted the computer knowing this may be the problem, but even after a fresh boot with both the TV and my monitor plugged into my card, I could not get a picture on the TV, but I do have a picture on my monitor. The Nvidia control panel does detect both displays properly. I have tried every resolution and setting on the HDTV, still nothing. So for example, when I plugged in the TV first, and set it as the primary display, the desktop showed up just like it should. I plugged in the monitor, and no picture showed up on it. At this point the TV is still working fine. I wanted to get a picture back on my monitor, and the only way to do that was to unplug the HDMI adapter for the TV from the video card. As soon as I did that, the green light on the monitor came on instantly, and I had a picture on it within seconds. Then, I plugged the TV in again, and there was no picture on it, and there won't be until I unplug the CRT monitor. I have tried booting the PC up with both monitors plugged in, after running a session with only one monitor, I have tried hot swapping monitors after booting up with one, or both attached, I have tried rebooting multiple times with both plugged in, its no use. I can't get both to work at the same time. I'm just at a loss. win xp 32, 8800GT 512, Sharp 42" HDTV more

Voting Question: I'm trying to set up dual monitors.?

Well then, I have 2 monitors that I'm trying to conenct to my PC. My video has both one VGA hookup and one DVI hookup. I connect the first monitor via VGA, then I try to use a DVI hookup on the second one. But the second monitor reads "no VGA cable". It isn't giving a single to the Tower. So my question is, what is my situation for getting the second to have a single? more

Resolved Question: Monitor Suddenly Blurry?

One of my two relatively brand new monitors was blurry when I booted up this morning. So I switched the cables for my dual monitors to check to see if it was the monitor, the cables, or the OS. Turns out that its not the monitor or the cables, as whichever monitor displays my desktop (not the auxiliary screen) remains blurry. My resolution is set correctly and I can't find anything else wrong in the settings. Please help! more

I am trying to set up dual monitoring, but I noticed that I only had one VGA output in the back, thus my video card doesn't support dual monitoring (Well it does, just the same image though). I will still only have one VGA cable in the back correct? Will I need a splitter? If not, then what will I need? If anyone could give me a link to a good video card for what I want to do, at an appropriate price, and also tell me what I need to do after I install it to achieve dual monitoring, I will greatly appreciate it. Voting Question: why cant I get drivers to run on my computer?

I have a dell dimensions 8300 2.6 ghz Pentium 4 (I am aware its a piece of crap but its the best and fastest computer i have at the moment until i can afford a new dual core) I used to have the ati pro 9800 that came stock in it well it blew a month ago and i let the computer sit i found an old nvidia geforce2 mx/mx400 32 bit card and put it in because there's no onboard video and need a card for the computer to plug a monitor in it . well it works like I'm on it now but i cant seem to get the drivers to install i uninstalled the drivers for the ati and downloaded the ones for geforce but for some reason after i do the setup and restart when it restarts there is no drivers and no control panel one would would probably say if it works now why change it but the reason I'm trying to get drivers is because when i hook it up to the t.v through svideo it gives me black and white and i would like to see if i can change that in the control panel a..... also when i right click on the desktop and go to properties setting advanced and then click on the adapters tab it doesn't pick up any drivers can anyone help me through this situation?? P.S i put it into another computer and hooked it up with the svideo to the same t.v with color so i know the card and the svideo wire should work fine together and give me color on the t.v but i need it for this computerthe ati drivers were already on my computer the were for the ati radeon 9800 pro graphics card that came with the computer i'm not trying to use those drivers i went to the nvidia and downloaded the correct drivers but they aren't installing i already deleted the drivers for the ati card but the nvidia drivers aren't installing that's my question why aren't they installing thanx for the input more

Resolved Question: What graphics card should I get?

What I'd like to accomplish: I'd like to run Starcraft 2 on medium/low settings, without frame lag. Currently, the game installed fine and everything works, I just got a really bad FPS rate, which I believe is because of my older, integrated graphics card (nvidia GeForce 7100). Other than that, I haven't had any crashing/other weird issues. Just the constant horrible FPS. What I'm willing to spend: Anywhere up to $100; maybe up to $120 very tops. Buying a new computer or building a computer is NOT an option. I absolutely do not have big bucks to throw around. My specs: Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: HP-Pavilion System Model: KT371AA-ABA a6514f BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz Memory: 2940MB RAM Page File: 1199MB used, 4908MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 11 Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Display Memory: 1336 MB Dedicated Memory: 121 MB Shared Memory: 1214 MB Current Mode: 1440 x 900 (32 bit) (60Hz) Monitor: HP w17e Wide LCD Monitor Driver Version: 8.17.0012.5896 (English) DDI Version: 9Ex BGRA Supported: Yes My computer has a PCIE x16 slot, and I opened up the casing this morning to check the power supply specs. It says it's got a Max Power of 300W. I wrote down other specifics that were on the label of my power supply, but I'm not really sure what they mean. I'm not too great with this stuff. But from this info, is there any nvidia 8000/9000 series or ati radeon 4000/5000 series card that will run without requiring over 300W and will it be compatible with my system that I can buy and stay in my budget? Also, obtaining and installing a new power supply is POSSIBLY an option. If it's inexpensive and easy to do so, I would consider doing so, but only if that is the only way for me to get a graphics card that is good enough for SC2, and that my PC can physically handle. I would much prefer to get a graphics card that will run on my 300W power supply, if there is such a good enough one to run starcraft 2. Also, I've heard that although some graphics card manufacturers reccommend having 400W or so PSU for a certain card, they work just fine on PCs that can only handle up to 250-300W. Is this true? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, Thanks. more

Resolved Question: How do I fix my dual monitor resolution?

I have two 24 inch monitors set up to my desktop. I have an image on both but the second monitor has a weird resolution. Both monitors are have optimal resolutions of 1680 x 1050. That is what my main monitor is set to but my second monitor only goes to 1600 x 900 and then skips to 1600 x 1200. How to I get it set to 1680 x 1050. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Why did my monitor go blank?

i just sat down at my computer and signed in and my screen went blank it was working about an hour before it went blank, and the cords are connected (both power and VGA) and the light is green when the VGA cord is connected to the on board video card. i know its not the video card because my plan was to set up dual monitor but i haven't got around to it yet so now i have the second monitor hooked to it.Any ideas whats wrong? The monitor is fairly old and was in constant use before i got it (it came from a College). Its a Dell UltraSharp. Any help is appreciated.i get why i would need a driver if it has been working for the past week..if its the monitor im not too worried about it it was free.. more

Voting Question: Is this computer build compatible?

I was building this at cyberpowerpc.com and my main concerns are: Is the motherboard optimum for this system i.e. it's compatible with everything ((especially 2x video cards and the RAM)) or is there a better one that I should be using instead? I choose a mobo with CrossFireX capability but as of now I will only be using one graphics card and i'll be buying the second one later so on the option for multiple video card settings I selected Xtreme Performance in SLI/CrossFireX Gaming Mode Supports Single Monitor oppose to the single video card setting. Will this effect my computers display since I'll only be using one video card at first? Did I choose quality RAM or should I go up in GB/MHz? Voting Question: Can you help me with these computer specs?

Ok so i want a good gaming computer so i have been looking around on craigslist for a pre-built custom computer. I know building one would be better but im not the best computer person out there. I know what ram is and how to hook up simple stuff. In a rating from 1-10 id put me at about 6 or 7. But back to the point i found this computer on craigslist and i need help figuring out if it is a good gaming computer or not. Thanks in advance. Here are the specs. Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5GHZ Runs cool thanks to the below mentioned H50 (At about 45-50C under FULL load, all 4 cores running 100%) Average user won't hit this so it'll run cool. Corsair H50 Closed water cooling system on the cpu. (No worry about leaks, this is a very trusted cooling system and great for getting into the start of water cooling.) Pictured below is how I have mine set up, but is not MY computer, I found the picture online. The cpu can be safely overclocked with this cooling system as well, though I haven't done it I've read people overclocking to 3GHz and even 3.4GHz 8GB Corsair DDR3 Ram Asus P5Q3 Motherboard 750GB SATA HDD, might be able to include an additional 750GB SATA HDD for a total of 1.5TB Hard Drive Space depending on the trade or cash offered. DVD-RW Ati Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 with Dual DVI and s-video outputs, also included are DVI to HDMI and DVI to VGA and s-video to composite adapters. crossfire adapter is also included.(Plays any game you throw at it. It can give the Ati Radeon HD 5770 (newer then the 4870) a run for it's money on all current games. WoW will play at 60fps on Ultra High Settings, Sims 3, Command and Conquer 3 all play on Ultra as will. All at 1600x900.(Limited by my monitor's max resolution)) Also the gpu has been cleaned and had the factory thermal paste removed and replaced with Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste to run a little bit cooler. 680Watt Power supply will power all this and more, you can crossfire another 4870 with absolutely no problem and still have power left over. Choice of Logitech LX100 wireless mouse and keyboard or the Logitech G15 Gaming keyboard and a wired optical mouse. (May have a wireless one somewhere, if I find it I can include that instead) (Second choice will require a little better trade as the G15 is a far better keyboard with an lcd display that can display game info, weather and all sorts of things also has a back lit keys and such. ) All depends on trade offer or cash offer. 20" Acer 1600x900 LCD Monitor (Model H203H) Running Windows 7 Home 64-bit and has Office 2007 installed. Will be completely re-installed to give you a fresh experience. Can include a few games to show the gaming prowess. Windows Experience Index Scores are as follows: CPU: 7.3 Memory: 7.3 Graphics: 7.5 Gaming Graphics: 7.5 Primary Hard Disk: 5.9 Remember this score is based off a max of 7.9. As Windows 7 uses 7.9 for max, if vista was used it would all be 5.9's as Vista maxes it's score at 5.9. Computer is in a Themaltake SopranoRS Case with the following fans 1 Front 120mm intake fan 2 Side Panel 80mm intake fans with blue LED's 2 120mm fans blowing case exhaust and air over the Corsair's H50 Radiator in a push/pull configuration The computer case, Logitech G15 Gaming keyboard, H50, and monitor are all around a month old at most. So they are practically brand new. more

Resolved Question: How to have a TV monitor show in display settings?

I have an M17x Alienware, 280M SLI GPU. I just recently bought an HDMI cable and have tried on two different TV's to do dual monitors. I used a VGA cable before and it worked perfectly fine, both monitors (my Laptop one and my Samsung TV) showed up in Windows Vista's Display settings as - accordingly so - Display 1 & Display 2. But this was with VGA, now that I'm trying HDMI, I dont even have the option to select another monitor in Display Settings. I also went into NVIDIA control panel and the only option in "Set up Multiple Displays" is "Only use one display (Single)." I can, however, make my screen laptop appear on the TV monitor by changing the Display in the submenu to "Samsung" but that is the only way and when I do that, my laptop screen goes black. I want BOTH screens to work, but it seems that in both Nvidia Control Panel and Display Settings, I do not have the option to do so. Can anyone help? Yes, I do have the latest drivers. Resolved Question: Good gaming computer?

I'm looking for a new computer to be able to play StarCraft 2. I currently have a laptop I use for web browsing, word processing, and most work related needs, but it freezes up when it tries to run games. So I'm looking for a computer, desktop or laptop, that can be a media machine that will allow me to play games and watch movies. I already have an HD monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, and a speaker system set up at my desk that I use when I need a dual screen for work, so I'm open to a desktop over a laptop because I won't need to buy additional peripherals. Ideally the purchase will stay below $600, but I'd be willing to go towards $800. One key thing for desktop though is that if I have to get a tower I want it to be something I can easily upgrade individual parts in the future. Here are the specs required/recommended for StarCraft 2: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=26242 Thanks! more

Voting Question: who can help me with gaming computer set up?

hello, this is like my billion post on this kind of stuff, but i really need to make a choice by tomorrow. SO i here are my current specs.. pentium dual core e2220 2.4 GHz (oc to 2.8 stock voltage and stick cooling and stays cool no problem playing crysis gamer settings) 4 gigs of ddr2 ram 250 wat power supply( i know it sucks ass) foxxcon napa motherboard (which dosent let me oc, or mess with settings to get higher overclocks) 9800 gt i gig edition sli ready and i use a 19 inch monitor. i was going to upgrade cpu for nearly 200 dollars, or 200 dollars with shiping and handling and tax. now am thinking instead buying all this http://www.tigerdirect.com/cgi-bin/shoppingcart.asp if the link above dosent work, here individual link to each part: ram coolers: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=543301&sku=ULT30100 cpu heat sink: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4434989&sku=C283-1202 motherboard and power supply: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5605782&sku=B69-4082 case to house the components: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1482411&sku=C283-1086 and windows 7: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5213932&sku=M17-7302 i fugure getting all that and comes out to a grand total of 324 dollars and 1 cent. instead if just trowing 220 dollars at a e8500. if i buy that stuff, i will be using my current processor and oc the hell out of it, maybe it can reach 3.4 GHz or so. I think it will since am currently running on stock cooling and stock volts and it dosent go above 50c. and i will be using my current hard drive, which is pretty fast. basicly anything that is missing on the new build" will be taken from my current pc. Now before you go off saying " save money for i5 or i7", no, i will not waste 700+ dollars on a an i5 . I plan to do that in about a year or so. maybe 1 1/2 years from now. But for now, just upgrade. keep in mind that everything am buying now, basicly will be reusable in new build, specially windows 7. since i dont have one right now, thats y am buying it, my current pc was prebuilt so am limited.exep the motherboard, which i dont mind selling for 5 dollars in one year. With my current pc, am limited to what i can do, since my motherboard bios is locked, my power supply dosent provide enough power to my cpu to overclock.( i use riva tuner to overclock) If my psu was more powerfull, i cant hit 3.0 clocks stock volts, and my motherboard dosent dupport sli. With the new motherboard, i will be able to do eighter sli, or just trow in my old 9600 gt as a dedicated phisics card. As far as dx 11 goes, i dont see any diference, besides the fact that games run better in dx 11, so a couple of frame loss wont bother me. As far as my processor bottlenecking, i can get a core 2 duo used at a local computer shop for around 50 bux, or a q9300 for 80 should i see the need for one in the future, i dont think i will if i can clock current at 3.4-3.7 GHz. LAST QUESTION, WILL ALL THE PARTS LISTED BE COMPATIBLE WITH EACHOTHER??? AM PRETY SURE THEYA ARE, but if there not please let me know...BTW to sli, does the card have to be exacly the same?? or can it be a 9800 gt but different company, i have pny, can i add evga?? or it has to be same model, same card, same everything? more

Resolved Question: How do I set up dual monitors?

I recently purchased a 2nd LCD monitor. I got them both plugged into my video card and working. I'm typing on my new monitor, and the other one has just the desktop background and nothing else. I'm using Windows 7 how can I set it up so that i can move between the two monitors, dragging open windows from monitor to monitor, etc.I've got both monitors set up, and it won't let me drag between the two displays. I see my desktop background on the other screen but no desktop/start bar/menu. I tried looking in the windows settings but the "extend these displays" option isn't doing it. more
