moreVoting Question: Switching from Chipset Graphics?
I recently got a new computer, an HP pavillion slimline. Its an improvement in everything from my last computer, except for graphcis. It has intel gma 3100 g33 expression chip set for graphics, and although these graphics look better than my old geforce fx 5200, it lags a LOT more in games, some games even unplayable.
Now the problem arises: I've asked many people and the internet if its possible to put in a graphics card and have my computer run that as opposed to the chip set. And i've got answers saying:
-yeah, just get any old (small, because its a small computer) graphics card and install it
-no, its integrated into the mother board, impossible to install a card
-no, unless you have a dual port (im not exactly sure what that means, does he mean the monitor's blue plug with 3rows of 5 holes plug? if so i dont have a dual port.)
So what I want from you, YA community, is to tell me if i can get a graphics card installed, how to do so if there is a special procedure, and if you can, a suggested card.

moreResolved Question: Dual Monitors With Nvidia GeForce FX 5200?
Hello all,
I have a Nividia GeForce FX 5200 and I'm having trouble utilizing the dual monitor feature. Everything is connected properly, in the first PCI slot on my mobo (which is a PCI Bus type). I am able to drag my mouse and icons onto the other monitor and things of that nature, but it is exhibiting the behavior of not having the proper drivers. Such as only the lowest color quality and resolutions! The card came with a cd with the drivers, that I have installed per instructions and I've tried a few other places to get them! What could be the problem? I've made the change in my BIOS and changed it to PCI. I know I need to disable the on-board card, but I would like to wait to insure the quality of the monitors before I do.
Thank you for any help.Thank you for your reply. Its memory is 256MB and the res I would like them at is 1024x768. I don't have any other options then 640x480. When I bought it from Amazon, I read the comments and people have gotten the dual feature to work!
Thanks again.
moreResolved Question: Video card upgrade and resolution?
I have a Intel® Desktop Board D845PESV motherboard. I want to upgrade my video card(nivida Geforce Fx 5200).
My motherboard states that it supports AGP video format and says it supports a PCI video adpater as well. Does that
mean I can buy a PCI video card? It says this on the form:
How do I designate an add-in PCI video adapter as my primary video adapter?
The primary video adapter can be changed from the onboard AGP to an add-in PCI adapter through the BIOS Setup Utility.
The setting is located in the Advanced screen under Video Configuration.
The reason I want to upgrade my video card is I have two 22inch monitors set up on a dual video card(geforce fx 5200)
and one is running at a resolution of 1680 x 1050 and the other one at 1600 x 1024, I want both to run at 1680 x 1050 but
can't get the second monitor to offer the resolution of 1680 x 1050. I updated my nvidia driver but that did nothing.
Is there something wrong with my video card? Do I have to upgrade my video card? If I upgrade my video card will my
dual monitors be able to run a 1680 x 1050 each at the same time?

I have an nVidia GeForce FX 5200, and I haven't paid much attention to it. Recently, I noticed that it has a second port on it, a white one, which I found out can be used for dual displays. Does using the dual display thingy cut my video card power in half (it's 128Mb, so would each monitor have 64MB) or would it still stay the same?Is card working twice as hard (as mentioned in the first answer) bad?

I'm upgrading my mainboard from a GeForce FX 5200 to Geforce FX 6200 so I can have dual monitor support. I can empty my AGP slot by removing the GeForce 5200 or I can use an empty PCI slot and keep my old GeForce FX 5200 in the AGP slot. What should I do?
I will do casual gaming and trading in stock market.
My mainboard doesn't support PCI-Express slots.
Is it better to have two video cards installed?
Is AGP much faster than PCI ?
What does Windows do when you have *two* video cards in one system?

When the PC is starting up the second monitor is fine, it displays the same as the primary monitor up until windows has loaded and the screen colour is fine so I know there is not a problem with the monitor itself. moreResolved Question: My computer won't start, can anyone help?
I purchased parts to build my computer and built it around xmas 2005. Computer worked fine until CPU fan started making loud noise in fall 2006. I had left the side of the computer open after installing a second hard drive (old 8 gig HD I had lying around). After shutting comp down, I noticed that one of the blades on the fan had been damaged. I think the noise came from this fan. (Cats were trying to get inside the computer, so i figure it was their doing).
Upon further inspection, I couldn't tell if the noise was coming from the cpu fan or the fan located on the lower left corner of the mother board (dont' know what this fan does).
The noise may have been due to a combination of the two fans. I don't know.
I had installed a second hardrive the computer to a beta version of Vista. It was slow and all screwy so i took it off.
I also tried a version of linux, Ubuntu. From what I can remember, I think it may have tried to install as a dual boot system on my main drive. Anyway, I couldn't get it installed correctly.
I'm not sure if this had anything to do with my problems.
Eventually, my computer wouldn't start up, so i had to recover all the files on my Hardrive and format the drive. I tried installing xp from scratch, and nothign would work. My comptuer would shut down during the set up and at one point i had managed to install xp, but the comp would shut down or lock up.
I also had a problem with my video card. i would have to play with the card's connection to the motherboard in order to get the video to go to my monitor. I trrid several monitors to make sure it wasn't the monitor.
So, given that nothing would work, i gave up. I don't know if any of the above will help you in figuring out what my problem is, and some of it may be irrelevant, but it's everything i can remember about what happened.
Here's some of the components that I used to build the comp:
1. Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0GHz / 512KB L2 Cache / 2000MHz HT / Socket 939 / 64-Bit #15
2. Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
3. RAM: Samsung 512MB PC-3200 400MHz DDR Memory #76
4. Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar SE / WD800JB / 80GB / ATA/100 / 8MB / 7200RPM / Hard Drive #133
5. Video card: nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 video

moreResolved Question: How do I move the Start Menu Bar on Windows XP to a different monitor?
I have three monitors. Two are being driven by a dual video card and the third is driven by the on-board video. The Start Menu is stuck on the monitor using the on-board video. I want to move it to one of the other monitors. I went into properties and changed the primary display to one of the other two and it did not move the start bar. An answer to my question is appreciated. I am using Window's XP and my video card is an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200. I am using nView drivers to control the video card multiple monitors.
Thanks.
