I'm not going to buy a new computer just yet, as I only use this one for general use so I would like to know if this is a good CPU upgrade and which/how much RAM should I get.
Here is my setup:
Mobo - Asus a8n-sli deluxe
Cpu - AMD Athlon64 3500+ 2.21ghz
Ram - OCZ platinum 2x512
Also, should I insert 2 more sticks of ram or just replace the ones I currently have.
I am looking at this Cpu:

moreResolved Question: My Dual Core performs like a single core?
My AMD Dual Core Processor is performing about 9% better than my previous single core processor. I came to this percentage using Performance Test V6.1
I downloaded a similar Baseline that's using my dual core processor and the CPU test are running almost exact to double my result.
I have:
Windows XP SP3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 - 4400+ - Toledo Core Socket 939
MSI RD480 NEO2 mobo
3GB DDR3200 (3x1GB Corsair)
500W PSU (Arctic Cooling)
HIS X800XL 256MB IceQII
To narrow this down a little bit, in the Task Manager it is showing 2 Boxes in the CPU Usage History Bit.
Device Manager is showing two processors
I upgraded from an AMD Athlon x64 3200+ Socket 939
I have not done a clean install of XP
I have not flashed my BIOS, But mobo is DUAL CORE READY and only a few years old.
I have downloaded and installed the AMD Dual Core Optimiser
What we thinking?

moreResolved Question: HELP! Can't find a good Dual Core Processor! =(?
Okay, I need something 939 Socket, something along the lines of 2.6 GHz with the intention of OC'ing it to about 3.0 GHz. I've looked just about everywhere I could think to look, and to no avail. =( I don't want to replace my MB and RAM , which is why I'm trying to squeeze all I can out of my Current MB. I was referred to a "AMD Opteron 185 Dual Core" , but finding one , or so I've been told, is rare as hell. Especially one at a decent price. Peeze! HELP! xD

moreResolved Question: Is it necessary to reinstall windows after swapping processors?
I swapped out an AMD Sempron 3200+ (socket 939) and put in a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (939) and I've witnessed significant performance drops. Take a look at the performance differences between my previous and current everest 2.20 memory bench results (2D results came form a different app):
Sempron 3200+
Memory Read: 3626 MB/s
Memory Write: 1678 MB/s
Memory Latency: 62.4s ns
2D performance: 111.15 MP/s
Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Memory Read: 748 MB/s
Memory Write: 633 MB/s
Memory Latency: 447.8 ns
2D Graphics: 31.05 MP/s
In addition, I used to be able to watch 1080p HD youtube clips, but now the video is extremely choppy. Do you think reinstalling my OS would resolve the problem? I've basically tried everything else. I've installed the latest cpu drivers, chipset drivers, graphic drivers, bios version, and installed AMD's dual core optimizer...yet nothing has worked so far.
What do you think? should I reinstall windows?

moreResolved Question: Is this CPU fan compatible with my computer?
Alright check this out ive dealt with cpu fans before but never dealt with the fact of figuring if there compatible to the computer, it just comes with whatever i buy usually. But I went ahead and got a cpu fan that could keep the comp cool.
I have a AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+, Socket AM2 (940)
The fan compatiblity list is as shown Compatibility Intel Socket LGA 775/1156
AMD Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM3 .
Now if I was to put that in my computer would the clamps be perfect enough to clamp on and be stable? Or is something to big/little.

CPU:
AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500+ (2.23ghz)

I'm not a gamer, but I am considering upgrading my graphics card. I have an old NVIDIA GeForce 6200 that works fine. However, it only has 128MB on board memory, and I read somewhere that it may eat into my RAM pretty good. I'm on a budget, and looking at picking up something like an 8800 GT w/512MB on board. Will I notice a reduced load on my RAM? (upgrading from 2GB to 4GB, in the mail now). Will I notice a huge difference in watching hulu and other online video? I have a AMD 939 3800+ 2.0GHz Dual Core, and mostly use Office applications, watch some Youtube, have a couple of people logged in on Windows 7, burn some CD/DVDs, play a lot of music. Thanks.

moreVoting Question: I'm thinking about getting a new processor but need advice (AMD only)?
Well i want to slowly start upgrading my computer and i'd like to start with the processor...
I have my eye on a few AMD +4200 Dual Cores socket 939 as they are in my price range. Would that be powerful enough to run a lot of the games today or do i need something like a +4800 which is slightly out of my price range?
Like i said i'm building it up gradualy so i'll probably get more RAM next (i only have 1Gig at the moment)
Many thanks for your oppinions and suggestions.Current cpu is AMD Duel Core +3800, GeForce 7900 graphics card.Additional:
Will an Intel processor even go into a socket 939? I've only ever used AMD lolAny links on Ebay would be greatly appreciated too :)

moreResolved Question: need help with upgrading a1477c hp desktop?
Hello, my Issue is i am upgrading my hp a1477c and need to know if the following parts are compatible and if they are good(feel free to advise me towards better parts). I am planning on buying a new Mobo because i want am3 support for a 550 phenom II x2(should i get 545)? Will buying a GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail solve my woes? Is there any other things i should worry about. I am also buying 4gb (2x2) of ddr3 1600(g-skill) ram. I am just wondering if i need to buy any other things for these 4 new additions to work;
1.PNY XLR8 VCG98GTEE1XEB GeForce 9800 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Retail
2.G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM - Retail

4.GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
Upon buying these items will all prerequisites be met for the processor and graphics card to work? Do i need to buy a new Power Supply? I am not very computer savvy. Please help me!
notes:the computer as is, only supports ddr1, socket is 939.

Currently i have a athlon 64 dual core x2 processor +4200 socket 939, and i was wondering if were to get more ram like 4 gbs of ram, and replace the old processer with a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ socket am2, would it improve performance and quality?Upgrading Hardware on a 5 Year Old Custom Rig. moreVoting Question: Best video card and CPU for my needs?
Looking for a CPU and video card upgrade for my 3 year old PC. I don't want to buy a new PC and I really just want to squeeze another year or two out of it. I'm into gaming and want something that will let me run my games on high settings with some of the eye candy enabled if possible. I enjoy FPS's (Modern Warfare 2, Crysis), and RPGs (Fallout 3).
My specs-
Windows XP Pro
2gb DDR ram
AMD Athlon 3700+ socket 939
Geforce 7900GS PCIe 16x
My motherboard is a little old and only supports Athlon socket 939 processors (no FX series or Opterons are supported, also only supports single and dual core chips, no quad core). The graphics slot is a regular PCI Express 16x, not the newer PCIe 2.0.
I want a dual core processor that will give me the most bang for the buck and a video card that's going to run my games smoothly at 1440x900 (widescreen) with decent video settings and not break the bank.
Any suggestions?
PS. I might buy a new motherboard if it comes to that, but I really just want to work with what I have.
moreResolved Question: I broke 3 pins off my Athlon 3700+...is that bad?
Well I'm a newbie with tinkering inside my desk-top...I bent some of the 939 pins on the back putting the CPU back in....yeah, I feel like a moron...well, anyways, I managed to straighten them and put the cpu back in correctly at last. Even with the 3 broken pins, it seems to be running fine. And I did a PC Docotor Stress Test on it which it passed...it runs BF2142 fine, so well....will those 3 broken pins have any affect at all on the computer's performance? I was considering a dual core processor upgrade, but maybe I don't really need it. With everything streamlined in the OS and anti-virus turned off it's fairly quick anyways. But the broken pins are mainly my question. Thanks!seriously, 3 pins broke off...but BF 2142 runs just fine...and no errors reported whatsoever....
