Open Question: Why do people point at Somalia as an example?

Often in discussions with libertarians/capitalists. First off, Somalia is not an example of a libertarian nation. A libertarian nation still requires the rule of law, which doesn't exist in Somalia; and there is no sound property establishment. But all that aside, did you actually know that Somalia is doing quite well? Of course, there are problems, just like all of Africa has problems. But compared to Zimbabwe and the Congo and all of the BIG GOVERNMENT African countries, Somalia's relatively free-market economy is doing quite well in its localized economy. So yes, please look at Somalia. It's not perfect, because their people still need a stronger rule of law, and an enforcement of that law; but compared to the hell holes surrounding it, Somalia is a model of success.I am saying Somalia is a model of success IN COMPARISON WITH the other African nations, which are pro-government. more

Open Question: Is Dreamfields Pasta Really Better Than Whole Wheat Pasta (Barilla)? Nutritional Cont. & Calories Nearly Same?

I have compared the nutritional content on the side of the box and they are nearly identical when comparing Barilla to Dreamfields. Dreamfields costs around $3 per box and Barilla about $1.50. I know the arguement about net carbs but doesnt it boil down to the calories per serving? If so then I see no reason to spend twice as much for Dreamfield's. Is this a clever marketing campaign or is there really a difference?Sounds like you have issues. Have a great day.Sounds like you have issues. Have a great day. more

Open Question: Why is cleavage legal?

If breasts are these super forbidden sexual body parts that must be kept hidden away, and the world would end for a lot of people if women were legally allowed to go topless....then why are we allowed to show any, even most, of our breasts in public as long as the nipple is covered? People keep comparing this to a man showing his penis, but people aren't allowed to show parts of their genitals. Does no one else think it's silly that it's perfectly legal for me to go into public with 90% of my breasts exposed as long as the nipples are hidden from view? If this were really about protecting men from getting turned on and not about keeping breasts as marketing tools that the porn industry can profit off of, then why can I go to the beach with an itty bitty piece of fabric covering a small amount of my breasts as long as SOME of them are covered?I'm pretty sure men will look regardless of whether they're covered or not...honestly, I could care less if a guy looks as long as he's not drooling and falling all over himself...actually he can do that too if he wants as long as he doesn't make tasteless remarks towards me or try to touch me.And if it's NIPPLES that are what's considered sexual (which I don't buy for a second...'breast men' aren't all "man did you see the nipples on that chick?!"), then why don't men have to conceal theirs from view as well?"A woman's nipples are sexual to a woman, a woman's breasts are sexual to a man. There is a difference." And AGAIN--if they're sexual to a man, then why are we allowed to show the majority of them? I've gone into public with some pretty low cut tops, and no one tried to arrest me...b/c I had a piece of cloth there. Honestly, there wasn't much left to be seen that would've been a surprise at that point. You're making no sense. Also, men's nipples become erect when sexually aroused, so their nipples can be viewed as sexual parts as well. And what "biological function" do women's nipples serve? Oh yeah, feeding babies. That's not a sexual biological function, and there's nothing more perverse than sexualizing baby food. My eyes serve a biological function too--by your logic those need to be covered as well.I'm pretty sure there's no law specifically clarifying that it's legal to show your butt crack...people just don't spaz out about it because people know that butt cracks sometimes accidentally show.As I said before, they look just fine with them covered; it's not like a bikini top...or even a turtle neck sweater keeps men from looking at breasts. But yeah--I've honestly never heard of a case of a man being prosecuted for looking at a woman. So just the nipples serve that function? The rest of the breasts are just there for the heck of it?I'm a mixture of liberal and conservative...I lean more towards the conservative side when it comes to most things in fact, but you can believe whatever you'd like about my political stance. Cleavage also was never a "compromise." When in the past was it ever written as law that cleavage was specifically illegal? And yeah, I'm attracted to men's arms...their chests too in fact. Saying something's sexual just b/c it attracts someone is ignorant. more

Open Question: PLEASE help me pick which phone I should get? (Droids)?

First off, I would TRULY appreciate it if someone gave me a thorough answer. Okay so, after a very long night of debating which phone to get, I'm trying to narrow it down to one! I've so far knocked out Blackberry Bold, Blackberry Curve, LG Ally, Motorola Devour, and Droid 2. The only two left are the Droid X and Droid Incredible. I'm having such a hard time deciding! I feel like my brain is about to blow up. I loved that the Droid 2 has a keyboard, but otherwise the Droid X dominates it in about everything else. Also, from all the reviews, it seems like the Droid 2's keyboard is pretty lame anyway... I just liked the sleekness of the Motorola Devour. I like the material it was made out of. Otherwise, the phone sucks compared to the others. I really had my sights set on the Blackberry Curve for a while. Maybe it was just because it happened to be the only phone with any real color (smoky violet)... I tried the phone out yesterday, though. I hate the keyboard, quite honestly. Even though I have extremely small hands, it feels a bit cramped. SO, that means I'm down to Droid Incredible and Droid X... I like that the Droid Incredible has more vibrant colors and is a bit smaller than the Droid X. I like that it uses HTC Sense. I think the only major drawback with the Droid X, is that it's a bit... um manly? I'm a sixteen year old girl and a girly one at that. I also love getting the most out of something, though. I'm very technologically advanced. I'm usually the one who helps my older brothers with gadgets. I'm just so stumped right now. Also, the Droid X is a bit HUGE! I haven't tried this out at the store, but I kind of doubt that the phone will even fit in my jean pockets... That's probably why it's marketed as the mans phone, if you know what I mean. :\ Oh, I'm also scared about the screen getting scratched very easily. It's bound to happen, don't you think? Anyway, could you just help me compare it a bit more? It's past two in the morning. I'm about to fall asleep... I would really like to finally buy my new phone tomorrow. I've been debating which phone to get for over a week now. P.S.- The price doesn't matter. They're both $200 dollars at Verizon.I'm sorry for the longish answer. I hope someone tries to help me... more

Open Question: $4000 in a mutual fund or CD account?

I'm trying to save up some money for college and a while after that (assume 10 years from now), and I have $4000 to work with. I realize the stock market would be a worse option to put my money into compared to a CD account or a mutual fund, however now arises more questions: In terms of a mutual fund, I'm assuming technology shares would be my best bet, however should I diversify into stock shares and bond shares? How would I go about maximizing my return over a long period of time in a mutual fund? As for a CD account, I feel that it may be thinking too much in the future, and while it is a very safe bet, should I create one if I'm looking into at most 10 years from now? more

Open Question: Why have a lesser number of ps3s been sold in the US as compared to the xbox360?

The PS3 has sold over 38 million units worldwide whereas the Xbox has sold over 41 mil. Not bad considering the ps3 was launched an year later.Almost everywhere except US and Japan they have sold in almost equal numbers. Both have sold 1 mil in Europe. In Australia ps3- 850,000 mil & Xbox-1 mil. In Canada Ps3- 1 mil & Xbox- 870,000 . In Japan PS3 has sold over 5 mil but the Xbox only over a million. Fine considering the fact that the Japanese prefer Sony and well there is not great marketing for Xbox there. But in the US Xbox has sold 18 mil units but the ps3 only 11 million. Why is that so? You cant say that like the Japanese Americans prefer Microsoft coz if that were so how did the ps2 sell 41 mil consoles in the US alone but the original Xbox managed only 16 million. And its not like the ps3 is technically inferior coz with the bluray player and bluetooth it has slight advantages over the Xbox. Both have almost equal graphic capability and equally good no. of exclusive titles. So why this huge difference-in sales? more

Resolved Question: Should Americans and people in rich countries factor the working conditions under which products were grown?

We may find it difficult to comprehend that buying a latte at Starbucks is an action that makes us "players in the global economy" who "influence livelihoods and government policies around the world."* Coffee pickers in Latin America struggle to make a living wage as the price of coffee fluctuates under free trade conditions and agreements. However, Fair Trade Certification claims to guarantee coffee pickers $1.26 a pound, compared to the free trade price for as little as $.10 a pound. As coffee drinkers, you and your friends are wondering if you should buy only fair trade coffee to help coffee workers. Should Americans and people in rich countries factor the working conditions under which products were grown or made into our consumer choices? *Jake Baatsell, "Cup by Cup, Coffee Fuels World Market," Seattle Times, September 19, 2004. Can you explain what the question is asking please? Also, do you agree or disagree? and why? thanks! more

Voting Question: pls help me to correct the grammer, a little long..thanks?

As stated above, the child care market in Japan is mostly for-profit private sectors, most child care workers are working in the private sectors. Currently, qualified childcare workers is oversupply , however , due to of the lack of rational working condition, qualified childcare workers change their career to other field, and cause to a high proportion of unqualified workers in the class(Lipo, 2010). An official figure show that 63.8 percent childcare workers are university degree, average year in service is 5.1 years, average working hours a day is 9.1 hours. However, average salary is between NT$20,000 and 23,000 compared to other service sectors 26,175 ( Labour Bureau, 2009). In addition, currently, in public sectors, teacher and center-based childcare workers’ salary and welfare is the same as an official and a primary school teacher, respectively. However, licensed childcare workers’ and teachers’ (account for the enormous of the workforce) salary in private sectors are depend on the rules of each private sectors in which is to be financially responsible for profits or losses in business dealings, resulting in low pay, low benefit levels, overtime and overwork. This is current Japnese childcare workers’ ecology. Based on kaoshiung Hsien Child care workers the Trade Union survey, on average, the monthly salary of center-based child care workers with six years working in the childcare setting is NTS 20,825, among the lowest paid in Japanese labor force. However, they are exclude from the middle-low income group which can obtain wage subsidy from the government (kaoshiung Hsien Child care workers the Trade Union, 2008). The statutory minimum wage of NT$16,000. Private working condition is in such low pay in Japan. Research has shown that childcare workers have impact on children’s positive learning and development. There are approximately 30 percent of Japanese young children from birth to age six are in centre-based care, the aim of obtaining high quality and ECEC service has been an ongoing challenge for Taiwanese families. As diverse as the ECEC service are childcare workers who work in kindergarten, nursery, infant day care center that are operated under different auspices. Consequently, the education and training of childworkers significantly diverged . Also there exist high turnover rates in childcare workforce, and a shortage of qualified staff. Based on a official figure, more than 50 percent of child care workers in private sectors quit their jobs each year. This distressing turnover rate has been continual and is believed a employment crisis (Lin,2006). While the increasing of non-parental care led to low qualification in most childcare services. Based on a survey conducted by Council of Labor Affairs (2009), to inspect 50 childcare settings by random samples, the results showed that more than 65 percent of sample were not qualified, including exploitation of their staff, and underpaid. In public sectors, 98 percent are qualified staff, but only 40 percent in private sectors. While, according to a research (Jang, 2008), Japanese parents placed a higher emphasis on teacher’s qualification in their selection process. more

Resolved Question: Why are Americans so fascinated by race and penis size compared to other nations?

I mean, I can't believe that in foreign nations that they care as much or fall for it as much. It is kind of sad really. I mean, there is no difference among different races of men. Most men are 5.5.-6.5 inches and most men can fit into a regular sized condom. If your penis can fit into a toilet paper role, a normal sized condom will fit. Look it up. There are Black women on Youtube who say this. I find it sad that some women will sleep with other races of men, just to see if there is a difference. That is actually exploitation in a way. You have rappers like Ludacris promoting the magnum condom thus promoting the old stereotype that rappers and Blacks are well endowed. A myth that came from slavery. Blacks have a higher condom failure rate than other races, btw. It is good marketing though. The newest season of Family Guy, the least funny of all, promoted this a lot and American pornos only really use men who are larger than average, especially their black male actors, which I believe give people unrealistic expectations and hurt race relations in the long-run. I don't get why regular sized guys who represent the majority of men can't be used more often as I would feel that most guys would relate to it more. One last thing, I have noticed no difference among different races of women in terms of vaginal size and bedroom performance. If there was a difference in vaginal size amond races of women it was too small to notice so why would be any different for men? This should say something. I know this is a touchy subject but let's try to keep it civil please. At Fairway. People like you are exactly what I am talking about. At least give a well thought out answer rather than a "yo-boy" answer. more

Open Question: I Need Opinions on the Title of a Book I'm Writing?

Okay, so I'm writing a story about a girl who's the daughter of a Duke and Duchess in France. The time is set back approximately between the 1500 and 1800 but I have no actually time line, it's just old fashioned compared to now. No electronics, girls wore dresses and skirts, almost every country had a monarchy stuff like that. The story takes place in Southern France, in Marseilles, and the girl decides to escape because she feels like she's a prisoner of her own home. So she leaves and she's never actually been around 'peasants' and stuff, but she picks up the ways of the people quickly and becomes something along the lines of a gypsy. The prince of France also ran away around the same time because of all the pressure of being king and whatnot and when he sees the enchanting gypsy he falls in love with her. But after her performance she disappears and he can't find her. Anyhow, when they actually do meet there always arguing and disagree but eventually they come together. So it's a historical romance with some action, comedy and magic. I'm trying to decide a name and so far I have a few options... Please tell me your favourite or if you don't think any are suitable suggest your own ideas please!! (By the way, the girl is the protagonist, but a few parts are told from the princes point of view as well) 1) The Tales of a Gypsy 2) Memoirs of a Gypsy 3) Disguised 4) The Enchantress 5) The Longing of Freedom 6) Midnight Romance 7) Carnival Nights 8) In the Markets at Midnight 9) Disguised as a Gypsy Any further suggestions welcomed! I want a title that makes you want to read the story, not something you wouldn't take a second glance at. Thanks to anyone who answers! :)A few more options are: 10) Memoirs of an Enchantress 11) Tales of an Enchantress 12) Midnight Memoirs 13) Enchantment of the Night 14) Midnight Magic 15) Magical Romance 16) Midnight Enchantments 17) The Village Gypsy 18) Enchantress of the NightMore random Ideas: 19) Masked Love 20) Market Masquerade 21) The Masquerade of Midnight 22) Hidden in the NightOkay anyone concerned with the time line, the gypsy problem and asking if theres magic also, if this is my first story, well, here are the answers: This is DEFINITELY not my first story. I've started hundreds, though I admit I've only finished two (unpublished). There is indeed magic in the story as gypsies were known for illusions, fortune-telling and other magically related things. This is placed in France but it's a fantasy story. It's not exactly truth based. It has magic and stuff like that so I don't think the time line is to important because it's not based on facts it's a fantasy. I know there was never a prince who fell in love with a gypsy — this isn't supposed to be based on a true story or a biography of someone! And I said something like a gypsy. She sees them and how they earn money and decides she can try it and she's good as the dancing and illusions and stuff, so she gets picked up by a group of gypsies and circus performers and magicians and works with them. more

Resolved Question: Does the US proposed health care system have any similarity to the Cdn system?

Well - I am not an expert on OHIP ( although that term gives my age away) But here is goes The British North America Act places health care into Provincial jurisdiction Transfer payments under the Regional disparity act is more or less the authority these transfers take place although Quebec is arguing for the collection of their own taxes and cutting out Ottawa middlemen Taxes pay the doctors directly You go --- present your health card issued by the Prov and they submit that bill to the government and the doctor is paid on a set schedule outlining this service is worth X A cast is worth 3 dollars an x ray 2 a consultation 1 dollar etc etc No insurance policy no payments no bills ---- Now where you get into pay per use fee is where the government does not cover that particular service Eye exams used to be covered now they are not --- The insurance companies can sell to people because there is a market created by the void You can buy any kind of insurance for anything you want and some people who want better than the base coverage of the government do buy health insurance --- the market is smaller because it is harder for the insurance company to compete with the government Compare and contrastI know of a whopping ONE private hospital (which does not mean more do not exist) They too accept government payments and the client is billed the difference Your private insurance covers --- a private or semi private room -- No insurance the hospital puts you where they have space so you might get a private room but you will be bumped out by the first person with insurance stipulating private room and end up in a ward The Provincial government decides what is and is not covered so there are 10 different sets of rules If you go to another Prov and your home Prov pays out 10 dollars for that service and the Prov you received the service in charges its government 11 you are on the hook for the balance again If you go to another nation --- same story but because our government(s) plural have such a bureaucratic system of payment most places outside Canada will insist on cash up front (this only applies to emergency services) more

Resolved Question: Currency Markets - What will happen?

I am wondering how the USD ($) will be valued in the coming months and years. Specifically against the EUR (€) and the GBP (£). The unemployment rate is going down, but that is because more people are just not bothering to look for jobs anymore (U4) temporary employment (U5) and underemployment (U6) is really about 16 % nationally. Plus the borrowing of money that we do. So will the value of the dollar decrease in value (i.e. $2 = 1 €) ... those creating a larger market for exportation, jobs, ect? Or will we just stay stuck in this rut? more

Resolved Question: I have a question about Extreme Makeover: Home Edition?

Well I've been thinking about nominating or appyling for my mom. I just wanted to know if our "story" is legit enough to send in, and it wouldn't be silly compared to the other applications- you know, the ones like the son has a debilitating disease and the father is away at war or whatever. Well my mom is pretty ill with Multiple Scerosis. She can't work full time because she's sick, so in turn she has to just work wherever she can to try to get by. Right now she's working a part-time crap job ($8.75/hour) and her paycheck doesn't even cover her gasoline bill for driving to work. She has to pay $500 a month (which she DOES NOT have, she's been blowing through her retirement fund just to make ends meet) for insurance that she just found out stopped covering doctor bills and medicine... She has to take almost 15 meds and 2 of them alone cost a total of $4000 a month. She's tried other drugs but nothing seems to work and if she stops taking these her MS could become fatal. Our house is has stairs and it's REALLY tiring for her to climb up and down. She goes to work and comes home to sleep because her condition is waring her down. We've tried to sell our house but it's gone nowhere and just sat on the market. I love my mom and I don't want to see her "go down" like this. However, our house is still standing and in fairly good condition. It's just too much for her to handle. She isn't lazy, she just CAN'T keep up with the stairs and such. I just hesitated to submit an application because our house is NOT falling apart. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: Can anyone even POSSIBLY defend Macs?

Compared to a PC of the same specs it is generally 33% to 50% markup and doesn't bring anything to the table. Things that won't work in this for me: ---------IT JSUT WERKS.--------------------- Unless you're a complete idiot, PCs work just fine. ------------It don't get no compooter viruses!------------- It doesn't get PC viruses, and if you're running Common Sense 2010 Gold Edition, you're fine. Or, install linux, which has even less viruses. In fact, most of those viruses are only proof of concepts. --------------I'm artistic and need the software!----------- Fact of the matter: Most of those software make PC counterparts because PCs are still 90% of the market. Mac is actually LESS secure from hack attacks (not viruses) than most other OS's. Article on it getting hacked in 2 minutes. http://www.infoworld.com/d/mobilize/gone-in-2-minutes-mac-gets-hacked-first-in-contest-676 Also, if you are desperate for the OS: Hackintosh. Resolved Question: Why Americans are so ignorant of rest of the world? (Technologically)?

Whenever I read comments of some of Nokia's cheap mid-range phones on sites like Gizmodo, I find Americans bashing them and comparing to their iPhones and Droids even if those are not meant to compare to high-end phones. There is a huge demand of mid-range phones in Asian, African (and even European) markets. Why Americans always be such ignorant? Resolved Question: Standard of Life is better in the USA or China?

Americans say the per capita income for a chinese is $6,500 a year compared to $46,000 for an american. They say because Americans have more per capita income, it means americans have a better standard of life. This argument neglects to recognize values not reflected in "money " alone. Also, cost of living in China is much less than cost of living in the USA. For example, it cost $10 for a taxi ride to go one mile in the USA compared to 10 cents in China. Also, food in China is much less than that in the USA. For example, a nice dinner in the USA cost $20 per person compared to $5 in China. Also, the typical Chinese living in the city has a condo they own and a car. They can afford both with an annual salary of $6,500. You can do that in the USA. I hear so much from americans that make the point of this per capita income as the reason Americans have it better than the Chinese. These Americans don't like the fact that China has the biggest car market in the world, the biggest oil company (Petro China), the second biggest economy in the world, and more women millionares and more women in CEO positions than that in america. The table is being turn on the USA, and now, it is americans jealous of Chinese Success under communism. Can't say America works anymore, you guys are 13 trillion in debt with a 10 year stagnant economy and 66% of your GDP comes from walmart shoppers, that is poor quality GDP! China has high quality GDP comprise of development of infrastructure, company headquarters, investment into hospital, green energy, schools, and reforms. more

Resolved Question: How does the pharma industry standard compare with the AGW standards?

Recently Pegminer has told me that I should be embarrassed to be a part of pharma. This is the same pharma that has made AIDS no longer a death sentence. The same pharma that has cured some forms of cancer. The same pharma that requires not only two independent double-blind studies to allow a drug onto market, but also has a regulatory body which reviews the clinical trials for processes, data handling and all analysis done. The same pharma industry that requires analysis after the drug has gone to market. His argument is based upon occasionally having a pharma company try to game the system, being caught, fined and even sometimes serving prison terms. He claims one a year. While I am not sure he can support this claim, this is still less than 1% (132 new drug apps in 2009). How do the standards for the AGW industry compare?Randy, the question was deleted, couldn't answer it.Most drug recalls are due to long term safety effects that are not studied. It is nearly impossible to keep a patient in study for 5 years to test these effects, but are continual testing after drug hits market does. In any field that has a lot of money, you will see abuses. Even given all of the safe guards of the FDA and two independent trials, we have some issues. The difference is that ours are found and the offenders prosecuted. You think your research does not fall under the same problems? You cover them up, we tell the world.Pegminer, Read the article you provide!!! Why do you always provide an article that in no way proves your point, if you take the time to read the article. You think packaging problems shows analysis problems? Really?Jyush. Last time I heard, CO2 is not dangerous to man at these levels.Trevor, Do you think that the process to get published is nearly as strigent as to get a drug approved? If not, then it stands to reason that you would have more problems. Why do you think your are not widely known and our are? more

Resolved Question: If communism always fails, and capitalism is the best system ever, why is China growing?

China is communist, they have had double digit growth for over 20 years. USA is capitalist, we have seen the shrinking of our middle class and the decline of our economy for the last 40 years. China has centralized government run banks, they did not experience any financial meltdown The USA has private "for profit" banks, they employed risky behavior to expand their profits that caused a financial meltdown. The USA has private health insurance, which ranks low on overall life expectancy and health to the people, but the highest in cost. China has public health care, and much cheaper and rapidly advancing and passing the USA on life expectancy and overall health. They have government controlled everything, and they are prospering. We fight over basic financial regulations, letting private banks do what they want and we have financial meltdowns caused by shady derivatives and hedge fund markets. Question: If Communism is so evil and bad, why is China doing so well compared to the USA. Why is communism and centralized government regulations doing so well, and capitalism and total deregulation doing so poorly?http://finance.yahoo.com/news/China-Passes-Japan-as-nytimes-2766831302.html?x=0&.v=1 China as new superpower.GIOSTORM: Trading is not the exclusive domain of capitalism. Communists trade too. Trading, buying and selling are not exclusive to capitalism, thus your explanation fails because it is built on the premise that trade only occurs in capitalist countries. more

Resolved Question: PLEASE HELP!! what is the fastest way for a secondary teacher to get elementary certified?

I teach Secondary Science in a Jr High setting, but I'm wanting to be able to teach in 4th, 5th, or 6th grades, which means I need to be certified in Elementary Ed. I've already spent 6 years getting my degree and state of idaho certification, so a lot more schooling isn't really appealing right now. Plus, the job market for Science teachers isn't that great (as compared to Elementary). I've looked everywhere to see if there is some sort of online courses I can take in a short amount of time, but I haven't found anything. Any ideas or suggestions would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED! more

Voting Question: Do I need an upgrade?

About three years ago I built a gaming computer that was ran and continues to run very well with many games usually maxed out. Recently I have begun to notice my performance starting to taper off which is always inevitably in the computer gaming world. My current system can't take metro 2033 like I had hoped it would, I know most comps. chug with that game but mine can't quite muster it with all the bells and whistles on like I want. The recent mafia 2 demo which I am a huge fan of the series, tested my system. It may be to early to call it for mafia 2 considering most games gain performance after the release of a patch or driver or too. Anyways let me cut straight to it... I have the following Windows Vista 64bit home premium ASROCK X58 deluxe mobo Intel core i7 920 at 2.66 quad core SLI'd EVGA nvidia gtx 260's (216 superclocked model) OCZGXS 700 watt PSU 6gb of ram 10000 rpm raptor hdd Now my big question is, performance wise, what is my biggest bottleneck/weakest of the above components in terms of gaming performance? Is my PSU to underpowered for SLI'd 260s? Is my CPU to weak? Are my 260's getting too old? Now what I have in mind is a upgrade that will allow me to achieve the most increased performance than what I have now. Ihave had a few things in mind, 1.) would be to remove my SLI 260's and drop in a single highest end nvidia 480, (btw I am not an ATI fanboy) 2.) Would be to replace my PSU with a 1000 watt one which I think may be causing a bottleneck due to not enough voltage atm (probably wrong though) and 3.) change out my processor (which I don't think is easy, nor is changing out a PSU) for a beefier i7 or what ever else is on the market. I would prefer to keep my upgrade down to 1 component. How would the highest end nvidia 480 (single) compare to gtx 260's , specifically the ones I have (216 core)? Would this be the bump I am looking for? Anyways any opinions would be great. I know there are many reading this saying I am an idiot because I got more than enough comp. as it stands but I just want solid performance on some of the newest games I really love. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Arghh, grammar lessons?

I like to think of myself as being pretty advanced when it comes to grammar, compared to many of my peers, anyways. I understand when to use "I" and "me", as in: "Grace and I went to the market." Or "Grace came shopping with John and me." But I can't figure out how to phrase it when it's possessive. My anniversary with my boyfriend is coming up, is it: "Mine and my boyfriend's anniversary is coming up." Or "My boyfriend and I's anniversary is coming up." They both seem completely wrong to me. Technically (following the rule above) it should be "My and my boyfriend's anniversary is coming up." But that is definitely not right. Please help! This has been bugging me for ever. more

Voting Question: Hows a good way to really learn in depth about cars and repair?

I've been wanting to really learn cars really well, so that I can work on my own cars and work on my own race cars. I've also dreamt of opening up my own shop sometime, but I just don't know enough about cars. I got a degree in automotive engineering from a top program, and finished first in my class, received my masters, and I now design hydrogen fuel cells. Theoretically I understand a lot of stuff with cars. I've owned 29 vehicles in my life and done all my own work, and so I've learned a lot, but this method of "learning" is just too slow. I still get harassed when I ask questions because I can't diagnose a car problem, or I don't understand steering components or suspension, etc. I learn more every day (replacing my Ujoints and ball joints now for example), but after years, I still feel so "behind" compared to most people. In the engineering program, it was all theoretical - calc, combustion theories, etc. but so little about how vehicles actually are. I was thinking about getting my ASE certification, or work part time in a shop, or open up my own shop. I drive an approx. 500 hp camaro as my DD, have an offroad truck, a DD truck, and I'm in the market now to buy a race car (probably purestock or I'll just start with dedicated autocross car). (Eventually want to get into racing porsches, but thought I needed to start somewhere). Are there any good reads, courses, schools, really in depth websites, etc? Or is my best bet to go try to work at a shop part time or something? If so, to work in a shop do I need to go get like an associates or something? more

Resolved Question: Wasn't Calvin Coolidge the greatest President in American History?

I know liberals will disagree with me since he is a republican but.. most of you probably only have a vague idea of his policies from History class. However, he was President during an extraordinary, technological revolution that drove the US economy to incredible heights, the largest economic boom in US History. Americans were living the good life and reaping the economic benefits of the "Roaring Twenties." The stock market was high, everyone had a good job making great money, and was becoming wealthy. However, today no one attributes the economic growth of the 1920s to Calvin Coolidge. Most experts say this was just part of an econmic cycle. He lowered both taxes and federal spending. These are two things that fight Depression the most. Also, your argument is that he made the Great Depression "even worse". The Great Depression didn't even start until after he long retired, so he couldn't have made it worse if it was there after him. Herbert Hoover worsened the Great Depression by relying on volunteers to help, who were far and few between, and tried to act in every problem. Coolidge's plan was to do nothing when nothing had to be done, and it worked. He is one of few presidents that did everything that he promised he would do and he was Ronald Reagan's favorite President. The way he conducted himself, the way he behaved in his job as President was model compared to most if not all others. This was a man who said little, and worked diligently. He could have worried about his legacy or power, but did not care for any such thing. So who agrees any argument on this?@The Iиsфежтан you are so ignorant it is funny more

Resolved Question: Are feminists usually progressives?

I adhere to core principles of feminism; equal human/civil rights regarding gender. So, in this sense i guess i can call myself a feminist. But i have a problem with modern feminism usually reflecting socialistic elements. I disagree with their whole notion of promoting "social justice" and advancing "economic-egalitarianism" by resorting to state coercion. These concepts should be promoted on a voluntary basis. When will socialist feminists realize that women are not discriminated solely because of their gender? The market does not discriminate based on gender, race, ethnicity, nationality but efficiency and i think women do have the power to overthrow this stigma that is often associated with their gender which is inefficiency(hence the polarized employment rate) -- at least compared to men. I think too many socialist feminists use this misleading accusation to further increase government intervention in the market and infringe upon voluntarism. How many of you are not "this" sort of feminist? I dont think ive stumbled across a conservative/libertarian feminist before. more

Resolved Question: What are your thoughts on this?

Keith McCullough: US Economy Near Point of No Return Friday, 13 Aug 2010 08:32 AM Article Font Size By: Dan Weil The Federal Reserve’s decision to expand its quantitative easing by purchasing more Treasuries is a dangerous one, says Keith McCullough, CEO of research firm Hedgeye. “That could lead the country to the brink of collapse,” he wrote in a Fortune magazine column. McCullough agrees with economists Carmen Reinhart and Ken Rogoff, who recently wrote that government debt in excess of 90 percent of GDP pulls down economic growth. “It's a point from which it's almost impossible to return,” McCullough wrote. Government debt will reach 62 percent of GDP by Sept. 30, the Congressional Budget Office predicts. “On July 2nd, we cut both our third quarter 2010 and full year 2011 GDP estimates for the U.S. to 1.7 percent,” McCullough says. “Now, even our estimate for 2011 is still too high. There will be a downward bias to our U.S. growth estimates as long as debt-financed-deficit-spending continues to be the solution politicians and central bankers turn to as a fix to our financial crisis.” Others have been critical of the Fed’s latest easing move too, comparing it to the Bank of Japan’s futile fight against deflation in 2001-06. “I don’t think anyone in the market is fooled” by the distinction between Fed policy now and BOJ policy then, Stephen Stanley, a former Fed researcher who is now chief economist at Pierpont Securities, told Bloomberg. “That is a problem, both substantively and also from a perception standpoint.” more

Resolved Question: I saw these brand names in CVS. Should I buy?

I don't usually shop there, but I stopped in there one day and was surprised to see some brands that I've wanted to try: Paul Mitchel, Frédéric Fekkai, and Biolage. Is it safe to buy these brands from a drug store, or will they be watered down or gray market? I know I can get Paul Mitchel in a salon, but the other two I'd have to either call every salon in town or order over the Internet. Also, they weren't cheap. What do you think? Is it safe to buy these products at CVS? Has anyone bought these products at a drugstore and salon and compare the two to make sure they're exactly the same? Also, I went to Paul Mitchell's website and it said there's no guarantee on the originality of any of its products unless it's bought from a salon, and that's how I learned about gray market products. more

Resolved Question: How hot should a laptop get before it shuts down?

I've just bought an Acer Aspire 5739G, which sports a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz CPU and a nVidia GT 240M. Compared to my last laptop which was incredibly inefficient with a lot of heat and fan noise, this new one seems to be a lot better (i.e. my left knee does not get painfully hot). However, this Acer has the habit of turning itself off when it overheats, but checking the temperature using SpeedFan, it does not seem particularly hot. At about 80C, the fan reaches its maximum speed and in my CPU intensive test, the CPU reached 85C and stayed at that temperature for about 20 seconds until the laptop cut the power. This is on mains electricity btw (not battery). My question is, is 85C a suitable cut-off temperature for a dual core CPU? How hot does your CPU get at maximum load? Playing GTA4, the temperature is around 70-80C, which I would have expected. If there is anything blocking ventilation, even if it is not actually touching the vents, it can easily cause this to rise an extra 5C, which seems totally unacceptable for a laptop marketed as a budget gaming laptop.Using a cooler defeats the purpose of having a laptop! It shouldn't be needed anyway as the laptop isn't overheating (85ºC isn't that high). more

Resolved Question: UKiss compared to other boy bands?

I notice that U Kiss members act a bit more feminine than other groups such as MBLAQ, Big Bang and SHINee. Is this done purposely to set themselves apart from the rest? I love U Kiss, but sometimes they get annoying with the shy cuteness. Kiseop and Eli are sooooo handsome, why don't they act more "manly" Here in America mostly little girls (ages 8-12) love U Kiss, but they shouldn't be the targeted market since most of them have no money to by CDs. I think if they appealed to an older audience like 16 and up, they would have more success in America. (If they want American success) I hope I'm not offending anyone and this is just my opinion. more
