Open Question: Canon T2i or Nikon D3200?

Hello I'm looking a SLR. Which one is good Investment? 1.Canon T2i (I love it more then Canon T3i) 2.Nikon D3200 or 3.Nikon D5100 Most of the time i take Pictures and Videos also sometime. I'm a Graphic Designer and I have compare the Pictures Quality between Canon T2i vs Nikon D5100. They are really very close to each other.Canon have very detailed sharp images and Nikon are good for low light. When we Zoom in we can find a noise in Canon but not in Nikon. In Adobe Photoshop i can reduce a Noise that's not a big deal. http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=nikon_d3100&products=nikon_d3200&products=nikon_d5100&products=canon_eos600d&products=canon_eos550d&sortDir=ascending http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM here we can compare. Resolved Question: How can you tell if a camera lenses is good or bad?

Other than the obvious stuff, like the size of the aperture and the zoom. What does it mean to have 11 elements and 9 groups? Is more necessarily better? People say that image quality is mostly dependent on the quality of lenses. For example, which lenses is better? http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=samsung_k_100_2p8&products=canon_100_2p8_usmTaylor, regardless that they are not compatible with each other without an adapter, which one will give the better picture? more

Resolved Question: Which of these two lenses would work better on my Nikon D5000?

Which of these lenses would be a better fit for my Nikon D5000? I have tried them both and fear I am not experienced enough to see a difference. I put a link to a comparison thing but a lot of the terms I don't understand. All I understand it that one was cost almost 3 times as much. What do you all think? Resolved Question: Which Camera I Should Choose?

Hey, Found some cameras to consider buying, but I'm stuck and need your help. :) I chose these cameras because they have good zoom, good video quality and good picture quality. I also would like to know which of these cameras has the best focus. So which one of these cameras has good focus, good video and picture quality out of all of them? I am going to be recording a lot (landscapes, plants, wildlife, family) so video quality should be the best.. *Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 *Canon PowerShot SX230 HS *Nikon Coolpix P500 *Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V *Canon PowerShot SX40 Picture of all cameras with specs: http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=canon_sx40hs&products=panasonic_dmcfz150&products=canon_sx230hs&products=nikon_cpp500&products=sony_dschx9v&products=canon_sx30is&sortDir=ascending Thank you so much for your help. Resolved Question: Sony Cyber-shot::: (DSC-WX9) OR (DSC-W570)?

I want to get the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX9 because I've heard it's good for taking pictures in low light, and it has 16.2 megapixels. (W570 has 16.1 megapixels) I see that the minimum ISO for this WX9 is ISO100, and the minimum ISO for w570 is ISO80. Does this mean that the quality of the pictures taken on the w570 is clear than the (WX9)?? (The lower the ISO, the clearer the picture (less noise) ) Which camera should I get for clearer photos? Resolved Question: Canon 60D or 600D Digital Camera?

I'm planning on buying either the 60D or the 600D within the next few days. I know 60D is supposed to be a better camera and looking at the specs it is. But looking on dpreview.com and comparing the benchmark image shot by both of them, 600D comes out ahead by a good margin. So any thoughts from any one who's used these cameras? Should I spend the extra $ and get the 60D, although the image looks to be not as sharp as the 600D? Another factor is that the battery life on the 60D is supposed to be at least double the life on 600D. Any thoughts/ comments/ suggestions would be appreciated more

Resolved Question: Why does the Nikon d7000 have a 0.94x magnification?

So I've been comparing the viewfinders of Nikon d7000 and Eos 7d, which happens to have the same 100% coverage and the same viewfinder size of 0.63x according to DPReview. But, the Eos 7d has a 1x magnification compared to d7000's 0.94x. If it has the same coverage and size, why does the magnification differ? What does you mean by increasing or decreasing image? more

Resolved Question: Sensor size vs mega pixels?

Lets say we compare Nikon D90 to Canon 550d. They have similar sensor size (D90 is slightly bigger), but 550D has a much larger MP. I've noticed that when I enlarge D90 photos, things tend to get pixelated (not as sharp) and I remember some review website (could have been dpreview, can't remember now) saying that a bigger MP means I can enlarge the photo without much damage. Is this true? more

Resolved Question: Need help in selecting a compact super-zoom point & shoot camera ?

I was checking out these one's, http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=fujifilm_f500exr&products=sony_dschx9v&products=canon_sx230hs&products=nikon_cps9100&products=panasonic_dmczs10&sortDir=ascending & have narrowed down to the Finepix F500EXR & the Cybershot DSC-HX9V The larger sensor in the Finepix & a high ISO range attract me The Cybershot has Manual Focus mode which is the main plus for me Still images in demanding conditions like low light are my primary requirements. Video capabilities are not important & Megapixel count is meanigless for me, lol I am fully aware that even entry level dSLR's have a much larger sensor & total manual controls, but then I cannot lug it around everywhere. Maybe I will get one in a years time or two Plus my better half simply finds those unwieldy ! Which one will give me better results from among the Finepix & Cybershot more

Resolved Question: Need help selecting a high performance compact superzoom ?

I have narrowed down to the following, http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=fujifilm_f500exr&products=canon_sx230hs&products=nikon_cps9100&products=panasonic_dmczs10&products=sony_dschx9vMy personal inclination is for the Finepix F500EXR, it's 1/2" sensor size & 12800 ISO seem pretty attractiveThe DSC-HX9V is my second choiceThe Lumix ZS10 is the most expensive & unless it has definitive advantages, i would avoid itGood image quality, in demanding circumstances like low light etcVideo quality is not particularly important, just still shotsNah, high megapixel count is not importantYes, i am aware dSLR's are much more suited for the job ... but that's something i have targeted for later. My better half finds them too unwieldy, hence the compact form factor for nowMatter of fact i am eyeing the 'Canon EOS 1000D' & it's only 10 megapixels& it's cheaper than the Lumix ZS10but then i will not be buying 2 together !  more

Resolved Question: DSLR Sensors: How does D7000 / D5100 sensor compare to Canon 600D /T3i / 60D sensor? ... ?DxOmark results?

Quote immediately below is from: http://dxomark.com/index.php/Our-publications/DxOMark-reviews/Canon-EOS-600D-in-depth-review/Conclusion "The new EOS 600D [Canon T3i] brings no improvement over the 550D [Canon T2i] other than a few features. The two sensors perform exactly the same, and show the same persistent noise problem in dark areas at low ISO speeds, preventing it from achieving good dynamic range metrics. By contrast, Sony’s new sensors [utilized in the Nikon D7000 / D5100, Pentax K-5, and Sony A580 / A55] have efficiently solved this issue. Competition may be tough between Sony and Nikon, but Canon continues to lag behind them both." In DxOMark's [above] conclusion to their "Canon EOS 600D in depth review", they are suggesting that the D7000 / D5100 sensor is significantly better than the 600D / 60D sensor. Are they useful to photographers shopping for cameras? ... If/when you go shopping for a camera, to what extent does DxOmark's sensor-testing results influence your buying decisions? 2) Has dpreview.com [perhaps the most highly and broadly respected camera reviewing organization out there] ever issued any statements referring to DxO Labs and the validity or usefulness-to-consumers of their sensor testing? 3) Has anyone of stature in the photographic community accused DxOMark of receiving financial benefit from Nikon-Sony? ... Are they a truly independent organization? ... There are no ads on their website, so how do they pay for their operation? 4) If DxOMark is engaged in fabricating, manipulating, cooking-up, spinning, misinterpreting, deliberately-exaggerating [take your pick] results to make Nikon look significantly better than Canon ... will Canon be suing them anytime soon? ... Voting Question: Shopping for a DSLR -- Should I weigh dxomark.com Dynamic Range data in my research? -- MORE BELOW --?

I'm shopping for an mid-range APS-C format DSLR. I understand there are always trade-offs. Although extremely low noise-levels at high ISO's (800 and higher) would be nice, they are not my highest priority. ****** I would, on the other hand, like to have a camera with best-in-class Dynamic Range at low-to-moderate ISO values (say 100-400). ****** and I would also like near-best-in-class noise-levels at low-to-moderate ISO's (100 - 400). I have lately been viewing photos on the web taken with the high-DR (but no longer produced) Fuji S5 Pro. For example: http://www.pbase.com/zainudin/image/107562952 http://www.pbase.com/image/9220003 http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1020&message=34121427&changemode=1 and these are leading me to believe that I want a camera with very good dynamic range. Here are my questions: 1) What is a simple definition of Dynamic Range, in everyday language that most can readily understand? 2) How much dynamic range is enough? Do some types or styles of photography need more DR than others? Examples? 3) Does dxomark.com publish reliable and useful information, when it comes to measuing and comparing the dynamic range of DSLR's? 4) Are the DR differences published by dxomark accurate? ... And Is what dxomark measures and calls "Dynamic Range" in their testing, the same thing as what photogrpahers generally mean by Dynamic Range? 5) Some commentators on the internet state that dxomark's DR data is inaccurate or misleading, or that real-world differences in DR (among mid-range DSLR's) are insignificant. ... And that camera-shoppers are better off picking a camera based on other parameters. ... If this is the case, why does dxomark go to so much trouble to test for, and include Dynamic Range data on their website? ... Is dxomark just pumping out numbers to boost their "scientific" image, as some either claim or imply? ~ thanks for your answers ~ more

Voting Question: Sony TX7 & TX9 Comparison: Is the TX9 worth the extra money?

Resolved Question: canon vs nikon dilemma - Change brands or not?

I know this is an ongoing saga!!. However I really would like to get some further advice on this matter as I have got rid of my Canon 450D and lens and would like to start up again from scratch. I would not like to switch to canon then to nikon then back or vice versa. I like to shoot low-light events such as concerts but not limited to concerts.I am not limited though to concert photography. I need my camera as a general travel camera and for landscapes. Though I might say that macro-world is not my cup of tea. In practice, I have checked my friends Nikon D90 and D3000 and for sure the images are sharper than 450D (all kit lenses). I have noticed quite a difference at high ISOs. For example an image high-iso 1600 + good lighting would compare to Canon's ISO 800.Very usable. Pixel peeping shows the difference. Even a polish/english image quality experiment demonstrated the same. IMO the Nikon's colours are more vibrant. What I do not like D90: 1) 4.5fps rather 6.5 50D 2) Build not so rugged as 50D 3) Slow AF kit lens 4) No live histogram 5) Info in viewfinder is limited compared to canon 7) 12-bit RAW Liked 1) Silent AF Kit lens 2) Image quality 3) High-ISO quality 4) Menus are Ok Some people think structure is complicated. I am contemplating whether I should go for a Nikon D90 or Canon 50D. Or else squeeze my pocket and get a D300 but then not enough left for lenses. Big plus for canon lenses - Primes with USM and excellent 70-200mm L Whats the pros and cons for Nikon built-in AF motor? After reading through, well at this stage I have compiled the following thoughts about the canon 50D Nikon D90 and Nikon D300. Canon 50D -It would be great to upgrade to this body. However I have read that some 400D users were quite disappointed since the quality of the picture did not improve much using same lenses. -The exposure on this camera is a bit unforgiving (when compared to other canon lower end models). Meaning you need to know exactly how the metering system works otherwise you will get under/over exposed photos. -9 point AF vs (Nikon's 3D tracking AF (11 point)) -35 metering zones vs (Nikon's 480 zones) i.e. bettering metering scenes -Great selection of Canon lenses. L series 'cheaper' than Nikons. -14 bit RAW -Battery drains quickly -Better ergonomics than the D90 Nikon D90 -Lacks live histograms in live view -12 bit RAW A/D conversion -Better image quality / captures more details -12MP sensor. Performs better in high ISOs. -Complex lens systems. Nikon Lenses more expensive. -AF modes eg. 3D matrix is dependent on lens CPU/capabilities -Nikon telephoto lenses bulkier/havier than canon equivalent -No idea which lenses should I buy. I would stay away from Sigma but some people claim they are OK but not best. Tamron should be better. Should I stick to Nikon's limited range of lenses? -The f2.8 70-200mm VR II is very expensive ($2,219.95) though Canon f2.8 70-200mm IS USM ($2,287.99) and non-IS ($1,210.00) -Good battery life -Slower continuos frame rate (4.5fps) -AF motor build in camera body (i believe this is a -ve) -Wireless flash support (might use it one day!) -However dpreview claims (negatives): * Over-enthusiastic metering a little prone to blown highlights * Very soft (default) JPEG output compared to its peers -I have read the Canon's inbuild JPG processor (all model) produces soft images. That's is why it is ideal to shoot in RAW and convert to JPGs using PC. Canon 7D -Expensive -There is a known ghost issue when shooting in continous mode Nikon 300s -Expensive Maybe I should invest into 50mm / 100mm low-f primes for concert photography. However in crowded places, you are not able to zoom, difficult to change lenses, cannot capture full body shots and than facial expressions etc... more

Resolved Question: Recommendation for Beginner SLR Camera?

I'm turning 16 in a week, and for my birthday I've decided I want a good SLR Camera. I'm big into photography, but all i have is a Nikon Coolpix Digital Point and Shoot. I want to upgrade but unsure about the brand and type I want. I've looked at dpreview.com.. but I'm still unsure because that site contains a lot of information and i just need it simpler. I'm not too satisfied with the Nikon quality of my point shoot compared to a Canon that i have used...however is that because Nikon is better when it comes to SLR than Point and Shoot? I also found that they say Canon can be very confusing for a beginner SLR user compared to other cameras. I like to take portraits and action shots as well, some of the best ones i have are action and really good portraits of my sister. If I could have any recommendations that would be fantastic! Thanks! more

ive been looking around for super zoom cameras for moths and narrowed it down to this. the canon sx20is which has some pros and cons, like tilt screen, larger viewfinder, 20 times optical zoom, but on the flip side, no raw, 1 fps continues drive and some people suggest the image quality isnt as good as the lumix. the other option...the lumix fz35/ aka fz38...also pros and cons...has a nice sensor apperntly, has a better fps (around 3 or 4) and has better image qulaity apprently. heres the side by bside http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_sx20is%2Cpanasonic_dmcfz35&show=all can you help me decide? please? and dont just say "go the canon" because some people think the lumix might be begtter more

Resolved Question: Why Pentax k-x has low price even it has very good specifications ?

Pentax k-x has very good specifications ,some of them are even better than k-7 and k-20 (such as flash range and Movie frame size) http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=pentax_kx%2Cpentax_k7%2Cpentax_k20d&show=all but also has a lower price by a big percent. I know it has a fiber reinforced plastic that makes the light weight and it lost the weather protection which included in k-7 and k-20 but i think that would not reduce the cost by this percent. Even the low quality of LCD (2.7 in , 230k) would not do that . Do you have any other opinion ,idea and do you prefer it to buy according to its price and specifications?. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Does anyone use DSLR Pentax K body with M42 adaptor to mount old SLR Pentax and Praktica screw lenses (M42)?

Hello In fact I have some different SLR Praktica and ZENITH lenses (Pentax M42 screw Mount) and looking for a new DSLR. I was interesting in Nikon D90,D5000 and Canon 500D Rebel T1I with a 18-200mm .But i was told that most of Pentax DSLR accept M42 adaptor without problems of focusing to infinity cause old SLR Pentax had made M42 mount lenses. But im wondering if there is a problem with auto-manual lenses that contain movable small pin for wide open focussing and weather if it can affect on light metering ability?.Also im wodering if all Pentax DSLR K bodies accept M42 adaptors and which one is better than others? http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=pentax_k10d%2Cpentax_k20d%2Cpentax_k200d%2Cpentax_km%2Cpentax_k7%2Cpentax_kx&show=all Also do you think that these lenses deserve such bodies or 18-200mm that is made for most new DSLR is much better. Thanks with my regards. more

Resolved Question: How can i recognize the zoom lens for a DSLR?

Hello Im looking for either Canon EOS Rebel T1i (500D) or Nikon D5000 .Both of them have almost the same sensor 22.3 x 14.9 mm (3.32 cm²) and 23.6 x 15.8 mm (3.72 cm²) respectively. I know that full frame cameras 36X24mm have different zoom lenses than smaller frame types , thus how can i recognize Canon lenses IS for Rebel T1i or Nikon lenses VR for D5000 and do these zoom lenses compatible with other frames cause some old film camera SLR lenses are compatible with same brand of new full frame DSLR or may be with other frames with my regards. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos500d%2Cnikon_d5000&show=all more
