Open Question: Can you improve structure or grammar of this...10 pointer?
This is the intro for my essay on time/space comparing two streets (Psychology degree) “The street is not one thing, we see it change throughout the day...from the kinds of people...to the kinds of behaviour and conduct...the street takes on different kinds of character” (Dr. Evelyn Ruppert) This quote encapsulates what I am going to explore in regards to time and space on City Road and a street that I am more familiar with, West End Lane. However time in reference to night and day is not the only contributing factor to the multiple identities of a street. We must also look at the past, how the street progressed and formed to what we now know, the people who migrate and immigrate there as well as the materials that order and control their daily lives. moreOpen Question: How to deal with a crappy life. ?
I will not go into alot of detail but I am a 13 year old girl who has alot of stress on hands. My parents are divorced And I live with my mom. I have a step dad too. Please don't say live with your dad because he lives in another city and I have switched schools a number of times and am sick of it. So my parents are constantly grounding me like everyday. That means being in my room when I get home from school and just work on homework. I know Ppl have harder lives but imagine living with the annoying-ist person u know X10000 and then have to be with them 24/7 I know she's my mom but she is super mean. She always says I think I picked the wrong kid up from the hospital. My younger bro is a prefect student so she expects me to be like him and if I don't then she get really mad. She is always comparing me to ppl like why can't u be like this girl. I cry myself to sleep everynight. She does 100 of more things but I will prob. Bore u. My whole family I mean whole family knows that she treats me like shi*. They have standing up for me but it just turned into a HUGE FIGHT LIKE HUGE!!! I rarely invite my friends over because my mom will just yell in front of them and get mad at me. Please help I know nobody cares but Plz I also never get any money to buy new clothes, makeup or anything. Btw we are pretty rich so I don't get it. My mom is always like oh your room is not clean u have to give me $5 and this happens like all the time. But my moms idea o a clean room is vacuuming it moping it drawers cleaned bed made windex windows. She always buys my brother new clothes and I have not gotten any new clothes for at least a year. (no joke) I am embarrassed to go to school because I am always wearing the same outfit again and again and again. If I ask my mom for $5 to go to the mall with my friends she says I'm too much of a brat to deserve $5 moreOpen Question: How do you get a girlfriend when you go to an all-boys high school?
I live in a suburb of a big city. I go to high school in the city at an all boys school. The school is pretty big if you compare it to my grade school which had less than 300 people, was co-ed and in my small town. I am not very strong or good at sports nor am I very social. I also hardly know anyone at my new school. I feel like a lost cause but any help would be awesome. moreOpen Question: Why do people live on that tiny island called New York?
I mean New York the state is basically empty compared to that overpopulated piece of land known as New York City. Like why isn't the big named cities and builldings on the actual huge piece of land New York? moreOpen Question: Scholes or Gerrard or Lampard?
Now I know the majority of the answers will be Scholes, and I admire him despite being a Man City fan. But take a look at their stats and compare them. Scholes doesn't score or even get as many assists as the other two and he can't tackle. I'd probably say Scholes is better at keeping possession, but who is better overall?Just watched some compilations and Scholes seems to have the best passing range, but being a midfielder isn't just about passing. Thanks for the answers so far. I'm still unsure.@Tallen Yeah I agree with most of that. That would've been a good combination. I guess Scholes is a different kind of midfielder to Lampard and Gerrard. England were screwed by bad management. Not sure why Scholes was played on the left of midfield. 0_0 moreOpen Question: A Tale Of Two Cities?

first off let me just say that I am NOT talking about every single child, nor am I referring to any one in particular. What I am talking about is each generation on average, and the fact that each passing generation is lazier and dumber than the last. Here's an example.... I know how to properly pronounce adjective whereas kids nowadays do not. they not only leave out the C but they don't even believe me when I say it's there!!! I know this is a minor example but you get the point. Things that were once common sense in my days growing up are now in college text books. In fact, I am taking online college courses at the moment and for one of the papers I had to write about MY experience with something, the professor sent an email out saying to be sure to use the pronouns "I" and "me" for the paper because it's "in your point of view" OMG NO CRAP ITS IN MY POINT OF VIEW!!!!!! the topic is to write about MY EXPERIENCE. see what I mean ? It's to the point now where a college professor has to tell you things that are common sense. What got me thinking about this right now is I'm on facebook and there's a clear difference between statuses of someone in their 20s and up and someone in their teens. Here's a good example ... My boyfriend (25 years old) wrote this : "I don't think i should have to go green or worry about emissions when every country is testing long range missiles that are capable of blowing up massive stuff. One of those equals a day or two of emissions from most cities." as compared to this which was written by a 16 yr old : Girls Mii Court Date Is May 1O Im Odh Scareed Cus Idunoo Whaas Gunna Happen Buuh Juss Knoee No Matta Whaa I Lovee Yoou Guys Im Hopiing Sum Guud Happens Buuh Yuuh Knoee Duuh Shitt Im Goiing Tru Soo It Might Not Be To Guud Hopiing Duuh Judge In A Guud Mood Too Dhat Miight Help A Lil Buuh Ill Try Tuuh Call Jaiidaa And Let Haa Knoee Whaas Happiing And Shaal Let Yall Knoee Buuh If I Cant Mii Moms Will Deff Call Jaiidda Loooveee Yoou Sis like, really ?? what is happening to the world !! no one has a brain anymore !!! not only that but kids are BRAGGING about being in trouble on facebook. SO DUMB moreOpen Question: OHSU Medical school paying 50k/year (in USA) VS. Moscow State University, for free, (in Russia)?
Ok, so I heard that if you go to a foreign med school, you have to pass all the USMLE's, and then just do a residency in the usa to practice. Well, I was born in Russia, and I know Russian, and I am a citizen of both Russia and USA... And I love Russia! But I gotta get some money though. Russia only pays doctors like 1-2 thousand a month! It's too little, while in USA you earn 150k+ per year. But I love Russia! I really wanna live there after I earn some money in the USA! I know Russian and stuff since I lived there 'till I was 9, and go there almost every summer for the entire summer to visit all my relatives and friends there. Anyway, I'm trying to decide! I want to get a good education in medicine, I want to have a good "college experience" like in Russia, and it just sounds so awesome if I would get to live in Russia for 6 years of my medical training! Especially in Moscow! But when I think about medical schools in the US, I think: 4 years of difficult stuff... 200k+ of debt, (50*4=240k, actually) then having to work at least 3 years to pay it off, (that's AFTER the 4 year residency), but in the end I guess I don't have any trouble with USMLE's and stuff? Idk. By the end of next year I will have two years of community college completed in the USA, and I will be 17. Which is like the perfect age to enter a Russian medical school, because in Russia you go to med school right after 11th grade. I have already been taking college level chemistry, biology, will be taking calculus based physics in the fall, and organic chemistry in the fall... I just don't know! Help me decide! What are my benefits? How much trouble will I have getting into a USA residency after Russian medical school? Can I just get into a residency right after I finish the 6 year medical school, as long as I pass all the USMLE's and stuff? As for the residency, I was thinking something on the lines of either Cardiology or heart surgery, or maybe radiology. Okay I made a list of pros and cons for each. Medical school in Russia (preferably Moscow State) Pros: -Awesome 6 years of life in the city I want to live in! -Cheap/free. Since I'm a Russian citizen, I can try to get in for free as long as I do good on the exams, because they have those "budget" spots in Russian universities, where you can go for completely free! If not, then it's much cheaper than USA, it costs like 8k per year, which my parents may be able to afford, compared to 50k per year PLUS living expenses, would be 60k per year=lots of loans and lots of years of hard work to pay off, and no fun during my 20's years. Cons: -Don't know the whole process of how to get into US residency afterwards... Will I have trouble with USMLE's? Will I have to wait a year? Will I get into a residency? What do I have to do to get into one? I heard the process is hard. :( -Don't know if MSU is better or worse than an average USA medical such as OHSU. Are they better/worse in technology? Training? etc? Over all rating? USA Medical School (An average medical school, not harvard/hopkins/yale or anything) Pros: -No trouble getting into a good residency if I do well. -It's considered "cool" to go to a US med school. -Maybe better technology, and better training overall? But I don't know about this one. Cons: -200k+ in debt. -No fun. Too much work. Want to go to Russia for vacation, but can't because they don't give many vacations in 3rd and 4th year, and I won't have money because I will be in huge debt. -I will have to work for at least 3 years after the 4 year residency to pay off my debt. If I want to earn more, I will work another couple years more. I will be 30 years old by the time I earn at least enough money for a condo in Moscow. (A good one, not some 100-200k ones) -I may be bored? Idk. It may be too hard? Idk. HELP ME DECIDE PLEASE. moreOpen Question: I need help with a fishing setup?
Hello all. I love fishing. About six months ago I bought a 6'6" Shakespeare Ugly Stik rod and reel combo from walmart for about 30$. I love this rod, but on the reel itself it said something about 12lb test. I live in New York City and usually go fishing at Jamaica Bay, if not I go onto a party charter boat in Sheepshead Bay, (Brooklyn VI.) They have the option of renting a 6' Gull rod with a reel that says 3:45:1 ratio? No idea what that is. Personally, I hate their rods, it's not a casting rod. It's like, hard to explain but we put our lure over the water, pull a lever down, keep our thumb on the spool, and let the lure go all the way down to the sea floor, push the lever back up, and jig/wait. I hate this, I rather cast with my ugly stik however, the line is 12 lb test compared to the boat's 40lb line. I want to buy another rod and reel set-up and not too sure what to get. I see a whole lot of different rods, reels, combos at cabela's and walmart. I need advice on what should I purchase. I will mainly be going after Bluefish and Striped Bass. If possible I need a nice setup, not too expensive, but something reliable. I was reading on forums and other questions about 30lb main line and some kind of "leader" line. Not too sure what that is. Another thing is what kind of spoons should I buy, I saw the last time I went it was a cloudy day and fishermen were using gold "crocks" which caught them their limit of bluefish and striped bass. All help is appreciated. Thanks.! moreOpen Question: When was the city or large town of "Brussels" constructed? and how it compared in the 1800s to Amsterdam?

was Brussels the "child city " of Amsterdam? why it was constructed ? and why it became the capital of Belgium? ALSO, WHEN, WHY, AND HOW DID BELGIUM ITS OWN REGION OR COUNTRY? how relations with Holland and the Nehterlands went from there? moreResolved Question: Is this a good beginning?
Jace cast a bored glance around the hall, leaning lazily back in his chair. Even the Shutterbugs swarming in front of the stage had lowered their cameras and microphones, the incessant whirring and clicking that had been focused on the lone boy fading to nothing. Chatter bounced off the mahogany panelled walls, guests milling about on the balconies and sipping from their champagne flutes. They often peered over the intricately carved railings at the stage below, pitying the boy who sat isolated on the glaringly lit stage. In front, Jace’s soldiers sat rigidly in their cushioned seats, eyes shaded by their glossy helmets. They had been waiting for three hours for the ceremony to begin, but hadn’t shifted from their positions since they had filed into their chairs. Behind them was a sea of empty, velvet chairs and crimson carpeting. Pillars of dark marble lined the walls and cherry tapestries swung from each before finishing with a loop around the cold stone. The hall was a luxury compared to the dull basics that most of the city experienced, but those who had the privilege to be invited indulged in such extravagance every day anyway. Most households wouldn’t dream of owning such silky dresses in their closets; the women on the balconies donned in every colour of the rainbow and glittering with jewels that were allowed to so few. The only ones not dressed to impress were the guards who stood at the back of each balcony like a statue, their guns sleek in their holsters. 'This is a waste of time'. Jace thought, raking a hand through hazel coloured curls. The whole ceremony was on hold for that one person, but the hundred spectators and thousands eagerly glued to their televisions didn’t dare to grumble. It had amused Jace at first that no-one risked attracting the attention of the guards that silently protected them, but as the heat cranked up under his best suit the private smile had slipped from his face. Tilting his head back, he squinted as the lights glared in his ash tinted eyes; the flecks of gold in his irises glinting. Suddenly, the screech of tyres pierced through the hubbub. As one, heads jerked towards the door. Scurrying back to their assigned seats, there was an excited intake of breath as marching footsteps got louder and louder. Jace braced himself in his seat. The Shutterbugs aimed their cameras, flashes glittering in the darkness as the lights were dimmed. Fast paced music began to play, dramatic recording booming through the hall as everyone scrambled to their feet. It was the typical anthem that played in these events, the same instruments used every, single time. Jace stood sluggishly, stretching his legs and smoothing the wrinkles in his trousers. The doors crashed open. Tuxedoed bodyguards stormed through the doors, thick soled boots marching down the aisle. Approaching the podium, Jace shuddered as one turned to face him. Or at least he assumed that the milky white eyes were trained on him. Her bodyguards were dangerous, yet chosen specially for their disabilities. Most were either blind or deaf, but this wasn’t much of a hindrance to them. Jace had never seen one bodyguard alone, always working in a group as one person. Icy shivers shoot down his spine. The men parted. They bowed their heads as their President stepped lightly onto the stage, refusing the hand proffered from her guards and head held proud. Jace stretched his aching legs, smoothing the wrinkles from his suit. Phoenix approached the podium, the sea green fold of her dress cascading to the floor and rippling like a wave. Nothing in the room glittered as bright as the diamonds peppering her fair curls like stars, her simple self a pure embodiment of the insane opulence that the select nobility in the city indulged in. Jace felt the ravenous eyes drink in their leader. She was the perfect figurehead, but nothing could mask her youth. “Welcome, people of Crux.” Phoenix smiled into the microphone, slender hands gripping the altar. “As you know, we are a city to be proud of. Our homes are safe, our children are well and our families wholesome.” Her seventeen year old lips spat the last word with distaste and scepticism. No-one batted an eye, but many had heard the rumours that had been hissed from ear to ear. Her history was shadowed, her heritage a mystery. Any criticism or comments will be much appreciated! As a thirteen year old writer, I would like as many tips as possible. :-) moreOpen Question: when was most of the city or large town of "Breslau" ("Wroslav") constructed and what it was used for mainly?

Being a bike messenger isn't easy. I've been one for 7 years, I've nearly been killed at least 10 times. When I see kids on trust funds with $3000 bikes, and wearing a messenger bag, and think being a messenger means riding a fixed gear, and attending messenger parties and races. In the real world, messengers can use Fixed, track, or Mountain bikes or road bikes. You have to work in rain, shine, or snow. I've lost at least 10 friends either through accidents or a culmination of years of drug or alcohol abuse. We messengers are elite, there are not that many of us compared to the world population operating in the world's major cities. I've made less than minimum wage for most of my bike messenger career, until I turned pro, and learned to accept the hardship and the profession for what it is. A dirty dangerous career without much of a future, most messenger companies in New York City are corrupt. There is a reason there aren't a lot of female bike messengers. I've only seen 1 per company at most. moreOpen Question: Homework Help? Filmmakers needed!?
ok i need some help for either amateur filmmakers, film making students or professional filmmakers. Im a student and doing some research on some films including the two mentioned below. Im comparing films perceived by layman and filmmaker. So for this i need point of views of filmmakers or people related to film. I have gathered point of views of layman or normal audience. WHAT I NEED! I need a critical analysis (and aesthetically analysis review) of film City of Gods and Dark knight. I want to know whats the IMPLICIT (hidden) message of both films. How it reflects on our society. What it COMMENTS on our society. I do not want the surface meaning of the film, meaning the literal story but I want a film maker's point of view. I will be very grateful. Thanks! :) moreOpen Question: Did you know that the team Fergie put out against Swansea....?
.....cost £165.1m The team Mancini put out against Newcastle cost £166.1m. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/07/yaya-toure-manchester-city-united?intcmp=239 Or for those impatient sorts who cannot be bothered reading the whole thing: "Ferguson has, of course, spent big since the Glazers came in, with the team that started against Swansea City on Sunday costing only £1m less to put together than that sent out by Roberto Mancini against Newcastle United earlier in the day (£165.1m compared to £166.1m). But it has been evident for some time that the centre of United's team has needed bolstering and having spent big on three players in that area – Michael Carrick (£18.6m), Owen Hargreaves (£17m) and Anderson (£27m) – within a 12-month period up to July 2007, Ferguson would clearly have addressed the situation if it had been within his powers to do so." Just a little mention to all those "City are buying the League" numpties out there. Hmm, not the only ones it seems. :D@ RC: United have spent £198m since Sheikh Mansour arrived at City. Hardly what you'd call pennies is it. Mancini has spent £237m since he arrived at City.People forget that the main reason Hughes was sacked is that he wasted so much money, and that is all added to the imaginative figure of £1bn (it's not, in fact since Sheikh Mansour arrived the full amount the club have spent on players is £476m)Edit: Yes the time factor does. FFP was announced in 2009, coming into effect for 2013, so the owners decided to do four years of spending in the space of 2 in order to quickly build the squad whilst it was still allowed under UEFA rules. So divide that £237m by 4 and what do you get?An average spend of £60m. Let's also take into account the number of football clubs who took advantage of City, valuing their players for ridiculous amounts 'just because City could afford it'. You could knock 20% off the price of every player City bought because clubs decided to get greedy on City targets (well the clubs on the continent didn't, it only seemed to be the English clubs)Yes City overspent on many players, but it wasn't by choice. One day a player was valued at £14m, yet as soon as City showed interest it became £20m. Is that fair play?Damn you Delboy! Foiled again! ;) moreOpen Question: Jehovah's Witnesses, Since God is "Aware of All Things", Why Do You Need To Keep Track Of Your Hours?
It is interesting, that the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society prides itself on publishing the billion or so hours each year, to make an announcement of their dedication to God, and their "hard-work" in bringing their "form of gospel" to the multitudes. All true Christians I know, listen to the Holy Spirit, and are drawn to others that need spiritual assistance, yet they keep no "time-cards", or records of their service time to God. Let's dissect a "service day" from the perspective of a normal JW publisher; Wake up, 9:00 am, can't start time until you leave the Hall in your car group. (this makes it seem more honest to God). 9:45, arrive at territory, and stop at first address, get out of car with pre-prepared literature offer, and knock on door...not at homes get an old mag. sometimes. Get back in car, drive to next address, unless it is a city setting, you work "house-overs". After an hour or so, and talking to possibly a few people for 20 minutes of your 3 hour day, it's time for a "doughnut/coffee/socializing get-together with a few other car-groups....and when 12"00 noon rolls around, it's time to go back to the Hall and drop off the "friends", then head home...4 hours total time, not figuring your shower, hair, clothes, book bag prep, shoes, and clean car time spent. So, an expenditure of 3 service hours, yields a conversation of 20 minutes, and you turn in all 3 hours as your time in service. Most witnesses do this 4 times a month, to meet the National standard of "10 hours".....otherwise, you are considered, "inactive". Lets compare that with Jesus' instructions to go out and preach, without shoes, or a purse, or money (for bagels), and when you find a house that is worthy, you stay there for as long as it takes, and you do not transfer from house to house (Jesus' words), and no-one keeps times, or hours, because they don't even carry scrolls...as the "word" is written in their hearts. So, since God is aware of everything you do and say, and He could make the rocks cry out, why do you need to keep time? Is it because you need to prove to God you were working for Him? Or because your organization needs to impress you with how much you are working to earn your salvation? Why?Philosopher....This is NOT hate, this is exposing falsehoods. When Jesus tells His disciples to preach, the same manner applies today, dependence on Holy Spirit, not a magazine sales-pitch.I was a member for 40 years. Jesus doesn't keep track of hours.Jeshrun, you are a very good JW. However, it is not by works you are saved.Do you realize how many millions of Christians are preaching with Holy Spirit every day?Do you not see that it is love of your neighbor that motivates millions of Christians to help others, and seek out those who will listen?Do you believe you are the only people looking for studies? It is NOT the quantity of hours, or dryness of mouth that make one a Christian, it is saying the right word at the right time, that is like silver on a man's lips.Your time is dedicated to the WT Organization. Go out and preach without turning in your time, and see how you are treated by the elders when you tell them you don't see a scripture that says; "keep your time cards ready for Jesus".Blessings Jeshrun. moreOpen Question: Elementary Statistics help...?
The sponsors of a city marathon have been trying to encourage more women to participate in the event. A sample of 70 runners is taken, of which 32 are women. The sponsors would like to be 90 percent certain that at least 40 percent of the participants are women. Were their recruitment efforts successful? Good afternoon! I was curious on feedback on an idea that me and a soon to be college freshman have. We will be attending an university that is reputable for academic excellence and are in fact are looking to pursue graduate degrees afterwards. Now onto this idea! For background we both have 34's on the ACT test (a standardized test that capture a students college readiness). The surrounding town is one of 100k + consisting of 3 high schools, 7 jr highs and MANY elementary schools. Now, we would like to start a very bare bones tutoring business. I call it bare bones because it would work out of the local large city library and/or one on one at home private tutoring. The "operation command center" would be through me including a business phone, email, database system etc. We will be offering service to 5th through 9th graders for the one on one tutoring service. We were considering a charge of $20 per session which would last between an hour and an hour and a half (extra $5 dollars). We are very qualified and intelligent to help and assist these students academically. Now we also would like to have a One on One ACT tutoring program that spans 4 weeks including 3 practice tests and hundreds of practice questions. This program would encompass about 15 solid hours of one on one tutoring assistance specifically for the ACT. We have over 1800 questions alone for the ACT and more than 15 copies of the ACT. We would charge a total of 399.95 for the entirety of the ACT program. We may develop a full 8 week program depending on feedback you supply? So what is the feedback on this? Main questions: Does this sound reasonable, $20 an hour for one on one tutoring from intelligent qualified tutors? Is the ACT program a good idea? 399 sound fair? As compared to other ACT prep courses chargin 700+? With nearly 3 high schools, 7 jr highs do you believe we will be able to find at least 8 clients? That'd be a small yet reasonable number I believe for us? Any feedback would be strongly appreciated! moreResolved Question: is china very hot during afternoon or daytime? I've been dating my boyfriend for about a year now. Before I moved in things were going somewhat swell, we had our little arguments but they weren't bad at all, usually we'd apologize and make up with-in the hour. The problems started when I was offered a job in his current city, I took it because I needed the money. Shortly after I moved in, he started treating me like I was responsible for everything. I had to do all of the cooking, cleaning, laundry, errands, ect. He'd complain if we were running low on groceries or cash and blame me for not knowing how to grocery shop,=. If I forgot to make him take his meditation, it was MY fault that he was sick and he'd rant on and on about it. He would also complain when I went to visit family because I'd be gone for 2-3 days (mind you, while I was gone I'd be on the phone with him 70% of the time.) He also compares my to his ex-fiance. He said that she could shop better, clean better, she was nicer, ect. and he said that's why he asked her to marry him and not me. He also talks to her on the phone once in awhile. One time she petty much said that if I can't grocery shop that I'm useless and he shoved those words down my throat for a month straight. The latest issue is moving. I wanted him to move closer to my family and he refuses to do so, even though he has nothing tying him to his current location. He moved four times for his ex-fiance so I don't see why he won't for me. I told him I'd pay for the moving truck and security deposit but everytime we get ready to look at an apartment, he starts ranting and freaking out. He said that I'm trying to force him but he's the one that nearly forced me to move in because if i declined the job and didn't move in he'd dump me. I really don't know what to do because I love him and he can be really nice. He likes all of the same things that I do and most of the time I enjoy being around him. He made me come out of my shell and he's the only person I've ever really opened up to. I love his goofy side but I feel like he's forcing me to be responsible for everything in his life and I just can't be. He expects me to be as responsible and level head as him but he doesn't seem to understand that I'm nearly 12 years younger than him (I'm only 18) and that not all of my choices are going to be great, even if I try my hardest...i can't be perfect. I've tried to explain how I feel but I'm not good at standing up to guys. I start crying and then he calls me a baby and tells me to go back and live with my parents but then when I go to leave he starts yelling and screaming and says that I can't come back and get my stuff because he'll throw it in the dumpster (I don't have a car and i don't know anyone with-in a 60mile radius so it's impossible for me to take my stuff at any given moment.) He's also going to be getting custody of his son soon and I worry that he's going to force me to take care of him 24/7 to. I'm only 18!! I'm not ready to be a mom or a house wife 24/7. I wanna go out, shop, ect. and I can't even go to the mall with out him tagging along, telling me that I'm wasting money (mind you I have NEVER spent his money, when i buy something I earned the cash but he doesn't see it that way because my money is OUR money but his money is HIS) or just flat out saying that I can't go at all. Also, I worry that if I dump him I won't be able to find someone else that I can be this close with. Even though I'm somewhat pretty, I'm extremely shy and only have one good friend. If I dump him, I would have wasted the last year and would be back at zero with nothing to show. I don't know what to do. I lost my virginity three years ago to someone who I had only just met. I danced with him and kissed him, he was a friend of a friend, and offered to let us stay at his place which was in the city. I told him I was a virgin and that I liked him but I didn't want to have sex with him. He said that was ok, and we kissed for a little while. My friend fell asleep. I made out with this guy, but I felt that he was getting too into it, and I told him again that I couldn't do it and I didn't want to. I had been drinking, but I didn't feel drunk at this point. I tried to stop it and I kept saying that I couldn't, but he kept going, and in the end I gave in. If I gave in, then it can't be rape...? I never thought that it was, for the past three years I just thought that I was weak and gave in. But I only just started wondering if maybe it would be classified as rape, because last week I went to a party of a friends, fell asleep there (I had organised to stay the night as I live a long way away and obviously couldn't drive home) and I woke up naked with him on top of me. He said we both had too much to drink and I wanted to do it, but I can't remember ever saying that at all, and I don't feel like I would have, because I never ever saw him as anything more than a friend. I told my best friend over coffee and she said I was raped. But if I really did say that to him but can't remember, then I'd feel really stupid. It made me think of my first time. I really hate sex, so I doubt I would willingly jump into bed with anyone at the drop of a hat. Both incidents, especially the first, make me feel really dirty and unlovable. I feel like no one will ever want to be with me if I tell people. Have I been raped? Is rape really so black and white, or could I be hovering somewhere in an area of grey. I feel guilty for even thinking either could be, because I wasn't held down or beaten. I have heard about women who have been raped and I feel guilty for trying to compare my stories with theirs. moreVoting Question: what is the mileage ofmaruthi zen (old)?

UN Survey Queries Vietnamese About Corruption Many people in Vietnam consider bribery to be a systemic problem. But a new survey by the United Nations and the Vietnamese government aims to give ordinary citizens a means to voice their experience with corruption so authorities can do something about it. The survey, conducted by the United Nations Development Program and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, comes at a time of economic growth in Vietnam, prompting more people to demand better services from the government, said UNDP policy advisor Jairo Acuna-Alfaro. “The more educated citizens are, the healthier they are, the more they expect in terms of quality [like] better education, health and more competent public officials that deal with their administrative procedures in a timely manner,” he said. Many of those on at the forefront of this change are farmers who have lost their land to development projects. Last week hundreds of farmers in Hung Yen province protested a plan to clear land for a new satellite city. Le Hien Duc, an anti-corruption activist and former member of staff for the country’s first president Ho Chi Minh, said witnessed about 1,000 policemen use tear gas to disperse 3,000 farmers. According to state-run media reports 20 people were arrested. The incident came only a few months after a farmer in Hai Phong province used guns and landmines to fend off authorities trying to evict him from his land. Land disputes are of particular concern, said Alcuna-Alfaro. “I think this is what we are seeing in terms of land," he said. "All the problems that we have seen in the first few months of this year where citizens are starting to raise their voices and complain to the government that perhaps all these land dealings have not been favorable to them.” Land use issues are an important part of the Provincial Governance and Public Administration Performance Index, launched on Thursday. Of the 13,500 people interviewed for the survey, only nine percent of citizens who had property taken by the government said they received compensation close to the market value. Two out of five interviewed said it was necessary to bribe someone to get a land use certificate. Acuna-Alfaro said the results are important because anti-corruption efforts in Vietnam are usually self-assessed, which means end-users rarely have a chance to voice their thoughts. “We are flipping the coin and providing a different type of data which might be more objective and more representative of the citizens, the users of those services, which need to be considered when discussing improvements in the legislation and in the actual implementation of the different provincial level strategies,” he said. One-third of those interviewed said bribery was needed to receive medical care and two out of five said bribes were necessary at schools. In a country where the average monthly wage is only $150, the amount those interviewed spent on bribes each year is staggering. On average, about $125 is given in bribes to medical staff and $58 to teachers and schools. The number is high, but not surprising, said Dang Ngoc Dinh, director of the Vietnam Center for Community Support Development Studies. Dinh likens corruption to traffic jams -- a problem that everyone knows is out there, but for which there are no quick fixes. The point of the survey is not to despair over low marks but to do something about them. For that reason, said Dinh, a low score should not necessarily be considered a bad thing. Rather, he said, it's an opportunity for authorities compare scores and learn from each other so they can do better. Alcuna-Alfaro said it is now up to provincial authorities to take action and crack down on corruption. With over 13,000 voices, the evidence will be difficult to ignore. moreVoting Question: Guelph or/vs Queen's for Arts (International Development)?
hello i have recently been accepted to Queen's, Guelph, Carleton, Waterloo and York for International Development, and was just wondering if anybody had the slightest idea of where i should go? the InDev program is relatively uncommon to other programs like psych or economics, so it's really hard to find information on them to compare them with each other. i have visited all of the campuses, and i think i narrowed my choices down between guelph and queen's... my problem now is that i dont know whether i've made the right two choices AND that i dont know where to go from this point. i loved guelph's campus - it was small, it was lively, it was intimate - it was me. yet it has no city to speak of - the university is all it is, and they have everything there. i dont mind that, really, but i am worried if i could spend four years like that in a square that i might love now, but come to detest later. queen's, on the other hand, was larger, looked more sophisticated, and i was slightly intimidated. i dont know why or by what - maybe it just looked big and empty in may since all the students had gone home. but i really liked downtown kingston, it felt really comfortable. i live in mississauga, so i know i would prefer kingston to toronto any day. queen's meal plans and residences were not favourable compared to guelph's, and yet queen's has beautiful, hogwarts-y buildings and a quidditch team and rumours of a great frosh week. i know how this looks - that i am choosing my uni based on all the wrong reasons but i just don't know what to do. at this point, every little thing has started to matter. the best place for me to go would indeed be carleton, seeing as how the PAPM program is 100% what i want to be doing, and yet i have crossed carleton off my list because the buildings were ugly and all the residences had bathrooms which you had to share by yourself, as well as for the not so convenient meal plan. coming finally t programs, i have heard guelph has the largest international development program in canada along with the fact that it is more inclined towards environment sustainability and all that, while at queen's, the global development studies program is more theoretical. neither of the programs are co-op, and i have no idea if one of them is better at international exchanges/opportunities than the other WITHIN THE PROGRAM (of course i have heard about the Bader castle - who hasn't?) i know for a fact that queen's has a higher reputation overall than guelph does, but i dont know if the program is better at queen's than in guelph. if somebody could give me any information, just anything at all, i would be incredibly grateful. it could be about whether guelph is more fun than queen's, or info about the program at either university - it could be ANYTHING. wow. that was a lot of writing - er - rambling. thank you so much for reading through all my crap. i really appreciate it. :) moreResolved Question: Some info on Dallas, TX?
Hey guys! A little background, I'm a junior in high school, I live in Mishawaka Indiana (northern Indiana, about 100 miles west of Chicago), and I'm not to sure on what I want to do for a living, I have a few ideas, but I know I don't want to live in this area if I don't have to. My family lives here, and it would be hard to leave them, but the economy is unstable here, and I couldn't find a job I'm interested in (either Cop, Paramedic/Firefighter are the main interests). Anyway, I was looking at different cities I could move to after college (I'm likely going to go to Purdue, maybe IUPUI), and Dallas caught my eye. I like big cities, and it has a good economy, and is a growing city. However, I had a few questions for those who live there. How is the outlook for civil service jobs? Also, what is the weather like, compared to northern Indiana? I hear it's hot and muggy, but would it be a huge shock moving from northern Indiana? Also, why should I move there, instead of maybe New York, or LA? Is it a fun place to live if you aren't really well off? Sorry for all the questions, but your answers are much appreciated. I'm not allowed to take a taxi, not even with a group of friends, not even if it's one of those family taxis driven by women. I'm not stupid, I mean I know what's out there, I know that there are bad people, but I also know and I'm confident that me ad my friends know what to do in those situations. I'm always so embarrased. I'm a big girl, I can take care of myself. And when a group of my friends go to this one person's house, it's a big deal for my mom. She has to call the person's mom, make sure there will be an adult there..... I think she's scared that we're going to be like, drinking. And yeah, there is sometimes, but I don't. I know what the concequences are and I choose not to be involved it stuff like that. I'm responcisble and level-headed. I even babysit! Forgive me, I have never played the Diablo series but the trailers drew me in. I don't know too much about how the Diablo games and I am hoping you guys can answer my questions. And this is coming from a WoW player so please just bare with me. One thing I enjoyed about WoW was the sense of community. You could sign in, be in Orgrimmar, and there'd be hundreds of people all around. There were always players wherever you went and it was one thing I really loved about WoW. Watching Diablo 3 trailer I find that it always seems to be you by yourself. Comparing D3 to WoW (which I know most people hate), in what sense will D3 have that type of social aspect? Are there major cities in d3 where everyone likes to gather, or are you always by yourself? The next question is regarding PvP. As a WoW player I was used to q'ing up for battlegrounds, arena, and BH/WG. I also participated in world PvP such as city raids, TM/SS battles, STV arena, gank parties, etc back in the vanilla days. Those were the basis of PvP for me and that is how I perceive PvP. Comparing D3 to WoW, in terms of PvP. How will I find PvP in this game and how often will I find it? Will I run into other hostile players and fight them? Is there an option for me to sign up for some type of deathmatch between opposing players? What can I expect out of D3 PvP? moreResolved Question: How can we lower the crime rate in America?
Crime Rate Plummets Gun Ownership Mandatory In Kennesaw, Georgia Posted on Tue Apr 17 12:29:03 2007 by doug from upland by Chuck Baldwin The New American magazine reminds us that March 25th marked the 16th anniversary of Kennesaw, Georgia's ordinance requiring heads of households (with certain exceptions) to keep at least one firearm in their homes. The city's population grew from around 5,000 in 1980 to 13,000 by 1996 (latest available estimate). Yet there have been only three murders: two with knives (1984 and 1987) and one with a firearm (1997). After the law went into effect in 1982, crime against persons plummeted 74 percent compared to 1981, and fell another 45 percent in 1983 compared to 1982. And it has stayed impressively low. In addition to nearly non-existent homicide (murders have averaged a mere 0.19 per year), the annual number of armed robberies, residential burglaries, commercial burglaries, and rapes have averaged, respectively, 1.69, 31.63, 19.75, and 2.00 through 1998. With all the attention that has been heaped upon the lawful possession of firearms lately, you would think that a city that requires gun ownership would be the center of a media feeding frenzy. It isn't. The fact is I can't remember a major media outlet even mentioning Kennesaw. Can you? The reason is obvious. Kennesaw proves that the presence of firearms actually improves safety and security. This is not the message that the media want us to hear. They want us to believe that guns are evil and are the cause of violence. The facts tell a different story. What is even more interesting about Kennesaw is that the city's crime rate decreased with the simple knowledge that the entire community was armed. The bad guys didn't force the residents to prove it. Just knowing that residents were armed prompted them to move on to easier targets. Most criminals don't have a death wish. There have been two occasions in my own family when the presence of a handgun averted potential disaster. In both instances the gun was never aimed at a person and no shot was fired. IT WORKS IN SWITZERLAND - EVEN HITLER DID NOT BOTHER THEM! moreVoting Question: How do you repair a broken relationship after love triangle?
Girlfriend and I of 16 months both moved away from each other for the year to new cities, so we became long distance. We were having some problems with our relationship, which was strained by the distance and the time difference. 6 weeks into the long distance relationship, she tells me she doesn't feel the relationship is working out, and tells me she is going to see another man. She tells me if I were a better boyfriend, appreciated her more, and showed her that we had a good future together, then she would not have done this. A week before this, I had asked her about what was going on with this new guy she met at her work, and she kept reassuring me that "nothing was going on, you're still the special guy in my life, dont worry". A week later, I guess that's all irrelevant because "i am a terrible boyfriend". I was devastated and heartbroken and tried everything I could to win her back. Eventually she told me she still likes me too, but didn't know who to choose, and said she needed some time. So while I talked to her online and the phone everyday long distance, she kept dating that guy apparently, but told him she wasn't sure who she wanted to be. She said she wanted to 'compare and see who is better'. This kind of made me angry. I gave her 4 months--she talked me everyday and told me she wants to be with me, have a future with me, and told me to wait for her. I told her to break up with the other guy--but she kept saying "DONT PUSH ME, DONT PRESSURE ME". I felt guilty for pressuring her, but at the same time my, conscience was telling me she was trying to string both of us along. She had the best of both worlds--her ex who she is emotionally attached to, and some new guy. She told me if she broke up with him she would have no one to hang out with on the weekend anymore. Eventually she broke up with the guy--now she said she wants to work things out with me. But being long distance...who the hell knows what's going on? She could be telling me the truth, or she could be lying to me and still seeing him until I move back to her current city. I feel very confused. She has blamed everything on me...arguing if i was a better boyfriend then this love triangle wouldn't have happened. But from my perspective, I kind of felt betrayed. She lied to me about him. I feel she manipulated the whole thing into my fault. I am still very emotional--someone tell me what to do! I am not making rational sense. moreResolved Question: need some advice on blast proof doors.money is no object.?
ok so a live in an area that is considered good and upper class, and it really is, but there are some crazy rich people around here, nothing scarier than crazy people with more money then brains. and the street gangs, the inner city is like right on the edge of the rich area, poor city planning i guess... so 2 nights ago a pipe bomb went off four houses down, crazy stuff, the house is being torn down right now... anyway my windows are bullet resistant, my walls are filled with sand bags and in front of that is 2 1/2 Inch thick solid steel plates all around (yes it was very expensive) my front door is the only thing that is not heavily armoured, it is armoured, its rated for 7.62 rounds(i know because i shot the plates inside with my Seiga AK-47 and it didn't even dent it, shot same type pf plates with my Barrett M99 50.BMG however, sailed right through so.....ya. hell even my car has light armour (i'm paranoid, i know) i am looking for a reputable company that makes good blast / breach resistant doors, money is not a factor. i want it so even the Army would be scratching there heads, saying "damn get more breaching charges...or a tank...or something" most of the armour is homemade except the windows, i own a machine shop and everything in it, i had lots of left over steel plates from a job that was canned so i brought them home, filled the walls on the ground floor then bought more for the top. (and yes my home has been reinforced to support the extra weight) the reason i do this is because i have over $100,000 worth the guns and other collectibles, like my vintage guitars not 20 feet from my front door, more in the next room and so on. nothing is tied down, i hang all my guns on pegboard so i can admire them. i know, its kinda odd, but why have a collection if you don't admire it? my house as of right now is pretty impenetrable, i have lots of stuff so that even if someone gets in, the system shuts the steel hydraulic gates and locks them in, facial recognition software, biometric access denial (finger print and retina scanners) and yes like i said, very expensive but when you have rare guitars, 100s of brand new and vintage collectibles guns, huge TVs, the price of these security measures is like pocket change compared to the value of everything els. and to make sure everyone is on the same page, i am no criminal, paranoid over paid machinist who lives by him self with way to many guns? ya maybe that... but i like to think of my self as a good guy, i would never hurt anyone unless they tried to hurt me first. im not worried about law enforcement or police, im on there side (on most things). im worried about scumbag gang members who don't have a sack between there legs so they joined a gang and rob people so they can feel "cool" or "strong" when in reality there pussy's with guns, that's my worry PS. i am very skilled with my hands, i can make anything into anything, maybe just build it my self? i really don't know much about how explosives work, i know how guns and bullets work very well, so i can stop them. how much steel would it take to stop a military grade breaching charge? maybe 5 inches of steel? more? if it can stop that it can stop anything gang members / crooks would have. i have been looking online but can't really find exactly what im looking for, any advice?were it says "shot same type pf plates"i meant to say "same type of plates"my keyboard is the only thing i own that truly is cheap junkwere it says "shot same type pf plates"i meant to say "same type of plates"my keyboard is the only thing i own that truly is cheap junkwere it says "shot same type pf plates"i meant to say "same type of plates"my keyboard is the only thing i own that truly is cheap junk moreResolved Question: are 18+ Dance clubs lame compared to 21+?
