Resolved Question: How can you encourage your spouse to save money?
My husband recently lost his job (2nd time in a year) and he has really bad notion of spending his money. I came across a bank statement of his for a credit card- I wasn't snooping but my father-in-law gave it to me and it was open. The credit card bill is quite high and he is carrying over the amount each month as it's interest free for the 1st year. Im really worried for him as he doesn't save money and doesn't pay off the full amount on his credit card. I have explained to him that this really isn't a good way to manage your money as everything your making is just being spent...no savings at all. In a year, I have saved more than £10k and extra money for emergency...good compared to what I'm earning. I know he has lost his job and he will be out for a bit but he needs to get out of this habit of using his credit card when he simply doesn't have the money to pay it back in full. I can help him if he's short while looking for a job...thats what emergency savings are for! In addition I need him to realise the importance of saving rather than spending the whole pay packet on entertaining and shopping. I am struggling to make him realise this. Does anyone have any tips? I don't want to micro manage him as he is a typical leo, older than me and doesn't like to be told what to do. But I don't know how to get through to him.. He says he will save money but after a month, he is back to his bad habits. I actually don't know what's wrong with him!? I have no visibility of whats going on with his money..he is quite discrete about it... I suspect he is in a bad financial situation and I am worried because this will affect both of us when applying for a mortgage. (I don't have a joint account with him thank god!) i feel like givving up me and my boyf are ib trouble a council bailiff took our car away and we currently dont have enough money to release it in 5 days, and pay council tax (they want a considerable amount) as in 1000 quid how can we afford that if we're skint? we are on benefits unemployed we have always had jobs until our companies closed down 2 weeks before xmas we have been seriously struggling without cash since then have borrowed off my parents already and my boyf father dosent care so we are in a fine mess we dont know whether to blow our last money which was meant for us to live on for foods (given by my dad) on trying to get our car back but then we will have no moeny until our 1st benefit payment comes through which could be whenever and we dont have any rent money and the next thing will be we are worried we'll get chucked out by landlord. we live in london and came from up north we;re seriously considering whether to say sod it all trying to survive down here and move back to where its cheaper by far but we cant pursue our career as well up there hence moving down we dont want to give up but are at a complete loss we have lost hope i feel so sick annd in pain, we cant afford our rent so are gonna have to see if housing benefits will pay most of it. has anyone been in a terrible mess and what do u advise? we cant get jobs and desperately need them our rented home is unsafe with dodgy boiler also with mice infestation so its not good i dont know how much more i can take before it breaks us both we dont even owe that much compared to people who run up thousands and thousands on credit cards we dont even have a credit card. help? moreResolved Question: seriously in trouble?
