Voting Question: Is this financial aid appeal letter convincing?

I am requesting financial aid appeal from my university and have to write a letter with supporting documents. It's easy to get the documents but I need help with my letter. In addition I'm meeting with my dean and major advisor to attach a schooling plan to my letter. Any help is appreciated, thanks. :) --- My name is X and I am an undergraduate requesting for appeal for financial aid. I was informed that it was suspended because I have not met the Satisfactory Academic Progress for the past two years. In the fall quarter of 2008, I was hospitalized and diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, which caused me to withdraw from school early on in the quarter, leaving me a GPA of 0.0. This medical problem of mine easily has serious flares when I am under stress, and I have to receive medicine every six weeks to keep my condition stable. In the fall quarter of 2009, I received a 1.92 GPA due to poor decision=making. I originally wanted to change my major to Biological Sciences, but by the middle of the quarter, I could not handle the classes and my fluctuating health began to flare under the stress. By the end of winter quarter of 2010, I had to be hospitalized again from a Crohn’s flare, which forced me to withdraw again, this time from spring quarter of 2010. During the time of my withdrawal, I decided to take some classes at X College over the summer to see what major I should pursue. After further contemplation, I took French 1 and Cultural Anthropology and received As in both classes: this shows that I do have a strength in linguistics, which is also a major that I became interested in. My goal is to graduate with a degree in linguistics as soon as possible so I can graduate on time, but I need financial aid to help me since I cannot easily afford to attend school. I understand that financial aid is a privilege, but I am serious about my education. Thank you for considering my appeal. If I can be of any further help on the appealing process, please do not hesitate to contact me as soon as possible. I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences.Edit: after people have told me stress problems might not make the letter appealing, I decided to edit it. Please do honestly tell me what you think. :) New paragraph edit: In the fall quarter of 2009, I received a 1.92 GPA due to poor decision-making. I was still in the process of wanting to change my major and took classes that I thought would interest me. When I decided to take science-related courses, I ended up getting low scores. Resolved Question: Who cares about the Hunley (confederate submarine)?

(Below is a list of all the wack-jobs that care about this old wreck on the losing side (The South) taht would have kept blacks in slavery akin to the apartheid that enslaved South Africa. Now the so-called Friends of the Hunley have their hand out so that they can raise money for this decrepit wreck. And I can't believe that the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigations) a law enforcement agency is supporting an activity that probably is in support of the KKK,The League of the South and other spin-off organizations such as the sons and daughters of the confederacy. The GBI needs to re-open it's books on unsolved murders of blacks and civil rights workers and all the unsolved lynchings and those not brought to justice. It even sickens me further that police officers like myself would stoop to be a friend of people that once hung black people from trees, see below the name of the GBI on the Friends of the Hunley I wonder if the Director of the FBI would allow this!!!) Resolved Question: What can you do with a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology?

I am really curious as to what you can do with this degree. The University of West Florida actually has a highly regarded program and it says on their website the Biological Anthropology specialization students do internships at the Escambia Country Medical Examiner's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to get on the job training. Would this be a valuable degree or a waste of time? more

Resolved Question: Which classes do I take for the pre-med biology requirement?

Hello, I am going to be a college freshman in the fall and I plan to start taking the classes needed for medical school admission, but I have some questions. Do I have to take the general biology courses or does it not matter, as long as it's under Biological/Life Sciences? Which ones will best prepare me for the MCAT and medical school? Am I allowed to mix my courses up? For example, may I take one semester of Anatomy, one of Anthropology, and one of Microbiology? THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE. Here are the Biological/Life Sciences courses I can choose from this upcoming fall semester: ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY: - Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology (with Lab), 4.0 units - Introduction to Human Anatomy (with Lab), 4.0 units - Introduction to Human Physiology (with Lab), 4.0 units - Human Anatomy (with Lab), 5.0 units ANTHROPOLOGY: - Physical Anthropology (with Lab), 4.0 units BIOLOGY: - Introduction to Biological Science (with Lab), 4.0 units - Principles of Biology 1 (with Lab), 5.0 units - Principles of Biology 2 (with Lab), 5.0 units MICROBIOLOGY: - Principles and Applications of Microbiology (with Lab) - 5.0 units PSYCHOLOGY: - Introduction to Psychobiology - 3.0 units ZOOLOGY: - Introduction to Animal Biology (with Lab) - 4.0 units Again, THANK YOU so much, I am really looking forward to your responses. more

Resolved Question: would it be better for a premed student to take a seminar on ecology and evolution or one on anthropology?

Duke requires their undergrads to take a seminar their freshman year, and as long as I have to take the course, I want it to be able to help me get towards my goal of becoming a surgeon while still being entertaining. I can't decide! Help! My advisor says that a medical school might like the cultural antropology because it would help me relate to my patients. more

Resolved Question: How do I find a job working with animals?

I am interested in pursuing a career in animal studies. In fact, it is and always has been my sole passion. In high school and college I became especially interested in primatology. Most of my knowledge has been self-taught—I’ve devoured every book on animal (particulary ape) behavior I can find. And I have interned and volunteered with every organization related to my interest, from animal shelters to zoos to chimpanzee and lynx sanctuaries. But at this point, I simply don’t know where else to go. I have a good anthropology department at my school, but no one knows ANYTHING about working with/studying animals. I just cant clean another cage in a shelter. I’m interested in biology, but I really don’t want to become a vet, or a vet tech…or even a zoologist for that matter. I am an anthropology/psychology major but I don’t want to pursue something abstract like archaeology. I know some people work with wild animals—rehabilitating them and reintroducing them to the wild for instance—and to me, that sounds ideal. I would also love to film, photograph, or write about animals, even if it means never personally interacting with them. I feel I understand nearly every aspect of field biology. But I have no idea how to get INTO this field. It seems so random, like something you eventually just happen to fall into. Everywhere I look it seems you need a degree in veterinary science or biology to work with animals in any way. It doesn’t make sense! You don’t have to go to medical school to be a social worker, or sociologist, or journalist, or anthropologist… So there MUST be some other way to study animals. Right? Does anyone, anywhere, have any advice? Any internships to apply to? Any graduate schools they know of? Personal experience/advice? Anything at all? Im desperate. Thanks -T more

Resolved Question: What career should I pursue?

Okay, my parents have been yelling at me all summer because I'm headed for the eleventh grade and I still don't know what occupation I'm going to pursue. I know these things about myself. I'm creative, I'm a dreamer, and I'm artistic. I'm leaning more on the introverted side, but it's not extreme. I'm interested in offbeat subjects like anthropology, astronomy, botany, mythology, philosophy, psychology, and environmental science. I desire a career that will have me traveling to many places and will have a salary of at least $90,000 annually. High expectations, I know. I would be comfortable dealing in the medical field as long as I can make at $90,000 annually and there is no surgery involved. And anything involving nature sounds wonderful as well. There are just so many options. Anyone who could narrow down a few for me that will afford me the lifestyle and income I desire would help me massively. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Do medical schools look at what classes you took while in college?

I know medical schools like at your overall gpa and your science gpa and all that. But what I want to know if if the medical schools actually look at what type of courses you chose to take while in college? And if this influences them in any way? I am a pre-med.microbiology major, but I also plan on taking plenty of courses that are not science related at all (I figure this will give me a nice balance in my college years....and it's just more fun to take some non-science classes to ease off the strain...just my opinion anyway). For example I plan on taking psychology classes (what some consider "soft-science", I know), a history course or two, and I plan on taking a religious studies course next semester. I also hope to take some anthropology courses and women's studies courses for some of my free electives. So can anyone tell me if medical schools will look at what classes I take? And if so, will my choice of classes affect my chances of getting into medical school? I know some pre-med kids are sticking solely to science courses. But....any advice is appreciated. Thank you! more

Resolved Question: European career/major options?

I have always been into cultures. ANY culture outside the USA intrigues me. Especially European. I have an interest in languages and would love to learn all of them (though impossible). I do like to read, do NOT like speaking. I enjoy diversity and adventure and would like to travel a bit before settling down -- or if my career was moving around... I know lots of random facts and I know a lot about different cultures, most of the stuff my friends have not heard of. (Such as when a South African spoke Afrikaans an axiom about tears, I knew that he spoke about tears because Afrikaans is derived from Dutch which is similar to German--I took German in high school). My friends say I am "cultured" as a result. I am proud to be apart of the USA- a significant country in the world, but I would like to explore Europe and decide where I would want to live. I want a different kind of life than here, although the standard of living is nice here. Does anybody have career/major suggestions for particular countries of Europe? I wanted to be a doctor, maybe in psychiatry or dermatology.. Firstly because I knew dermatology was interesting to me, I love skincare products and the process of healing or renewing someone--fixing something they themselves cannot fix by themselves. In college I will need to take trigonometry and calculus, Chemistry 1 and 2, Organic Chemistry 1 and 2, Physics and then get into medical school with a high GPA after mathematics--which I find extremely hard-- I might get a C in both Trig and Calc. My major is now nursing- to be a physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or specialized nurse, because I fear I won't be able to get to medical school. I’m pretty smart, had a 4.5 weighted high school GPA and a 4.0 college GPA last year but I hate mathematics. I know these classes listed above are BRUTAL. It scares me to think I won’t make it and fall short. Everyone says “It is how much you want it”. I get that. For me I want it so badly, but why put myself through so much if I can find something that I wholly love taking classes for, and I can make decent money off of in the future? Basically I feel really inadequate and dumb right now because I was counting on dermatology. But I don't know if I want to put myself through this when I could do something I love. I just don't know if what I love can make me a career I can live off of. ***********Please list majors and/or careers that may coincide with my first paragraph and the interests described here. I'm not so sure about Linguistics, what careers are there? And what careers for Anthropology? And what careers for Psychology? How is nursing/doctor/pharmacy in different countries of Europe?Thank you Cabal, but what are career options for degrees in anthropology, psychology, sociology, linguistics, foreign language? Please more answers? more

Resolved Question: Confused about what to take in University?

Confused about what to take in University? Hey everyone! I'm going into grade 11, and I know that before I know it, it's going to be time to go to University. I'm still having difficulty figuring out what I want to do though. I'm interested in Anthropology (Social Anthropology, to be more specific) and Sociology. And I'm also, currently, a LGBT rights activist, and really interested in Women and Gender Studies. I guess Social Work would encompass these disciplines..? I'm also a big medical nerd very interested in healthy, mental functions/disorders, social behaviour etc, so, Psychology it very interesting to me too. I know I have a bit of time, but I'm really confused. Did you have trouble figuring out what you wanted to do in University? How did you deal with it? I understand these are all kind of similar but, I'm still confused. Oh geez ! Thanks in Advance! more

Resolved Question: Majoring in Microbiology, what about a Minor?

I'm not doing medical school, but I would like a lab career involving the environment or maybe even crime work? I also have dreams of going to space, but that's not too likely. Resolved Question: Can I Get Into UPENN? Opinions please?

I'm a home-schooled RISING Junior, planning on going to college for premed. I would like to get into the University of Pennsylvania (it's my "dream school" so to speak.) Do I have a chance at U Penn? What more can I do? I AM out-of-state. Classes I've taken/taking (9th and 10th grade): -Anatomy and Physiology (TWO year program), Nutrition, Health, Microbiology, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Psychology, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Consumer Math, Advanced U.S. History, Advanced World History, World Literature, British Literature, Debate, Grammar and Composition, Vocabulary, Format Writing, Writing, other assorted writing/English material, Human Geography, Introduction to Geography, Photography, Keyboarding/computer, Latin & Greek Word Roots, Medical Terminology (online and textbook), Art, Anthropology, Advanced/Honors Macroeconomics, Ancient Latin, Spanish Literature, Spanish language, Spanish history and culture- Extracurricular Activities: - Since I want to go to medical school I volunteer at a hospital, shadowed a doctor, - Spanish language club, - Pilates/Yoga class, - Dance class, - Youth For Understanding volunteer (helps place foreign exchange students), - babysit part-time, and have a part-time job (yes, most colleges consider a job an extracurricular). Now I know this isn’t a lot but I live in a small town in a pretty rural area (there's more cows here then people, seriously :-/) so I’m doing the best I can. Facts: 3.99 GPA (No, my mother does not grade my work, a non-relative does) Member of the National Home School Honor Society (just like the Nation Honor Society) I got a 90 (out of 100) on the COMPASS Writing Test. I haven't taken the ACT/SAT, but on the practice tests I did very well! This summer I'll be helping out with the summer reading program at my local library. I will also be taking Advanced (like honors) Biology with lab and Latin. BTW: I can NOT take AP classes where I live (they only offer 3 at the Board of Ed. And the tests are over 3 hours away!) but by the time a graduate I will have taken Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors Physics, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Calculus, and Honors German language. ALSO, I have completed lab work with both my biology and chemistry courses. more

Resolved Question: Do You Think I Can Get Into My DREAM School? Opinions?:)?

Voting Question: I want to go to medical school but didn't apply to the pre-med program at my university?

I'm going to be a freshmen a the University of Pittsburgh, main campus, in the fall. My major is biology. I realize that you do not need to be in a pre-med program to be accepted to medical school, but I feel that it would be more adventitious to have access to the advisors. Can I still apply to the pre-med program? Also, would it benefit me more to major in anthropology rather than biology to stand out to medical schools? I would much prefer anthropology, but I've always been told that bio and chem are good "solid" undergrad majors for those planning on medical school. more

Resolved Question: University Freshmen Year Screw Up: Can I still reach for Med. School?

I'm not one for excuses so I'm prepared to face reality head on. Due to medical problems, coupled with sheer stupidity on my part, I screwed up BIG Time this year. My current GPA is a paltry 2.2. That said, the maximum I can ever get in University, if I continue to get A's in all the classes that I have to take for my major, is a 3.8. My main concern is because of these mistakes I have made this year, does this put me out the race to medical school? Is it worth it to even keep it as a goal or am I just fooling myself into thinking I can do it? The major I'm considering as of now is Anthropology, only because I'm truly passionate about the subject material. However, it doesn't lend a lot in terms of a back-up plan. Answers would help. A lot. Please and thank you!!! more

Resolved Question: Is a 3.7 gpa good enough to get into medical school?

I am currently a a four year university student majoring in Biochemistry. The reason I don't have a 4.0 is because my freshman year I really messed up. My grades my freshman year were 2 As in Health and medicine and Psychology. 3 Bs in Biology, English, Anthropology, and 2 C's in Precalculus and Calculus I. But after my freshman year I have been getting straight A's. I have even taken Calculus II and III and gotten As in those classes. I never went to a community college right after I graduated high school for two years. I went to a big university and was kind of caught off balance my first year. I know my freshman year grades are horrible but will the admissions committee for the medical school I want to go to (University of Illinois at Chicago) take into account that it was my freshman year. p.s I am going to get my bachelors degree in biochemistry with about a 3.72 from the University of Illinois at Chicago and I want to go to the University of Illinois at Chicago medicals school. more

Resolved Question: I'm 20, and want a child really bad! Advice!?

Well, I am 20 - in college for the last year and a half and in one year I'll be graduating with 3 degrees and then a year later will have my K-12 teaching certification and I already have a Culinary degree (seems like I want a bit of everything college wise, for I will have an AA in Liberal Studies, AA in Cultural Geography and Anthropology, and soon my Teaching certification and then my Masters). Mentally - 20 (nearly 21) going on 40. I'm not much of a partying person, and I'm not into drugs or anything alike. I'm unnecessarily smart - and I've grown up the hard life in a family (ran by my Mother and now nearly Step-Father (for the last 6 years)) who has 7 children all together including myself. Last year around this time, I had gotten pregnant and had an abortion due to the fact that I was afraid that my significant other would be forced to stick with me (we've been together 3 1/2 years), financially we were stuck at the time, and I've no right to raise a child I cannot feed and clothe. I didn't want to force my significant other to be a father yet, for in this subject we had a lack of communication - and afraid to say that we wanted to keep it to eachother, we opted for abortion. I used to be solidly against abortion - until I got pregnant and was suddenly terrified. I had the IUD placed in right after the abortion - and had 2 miscarriages with it (both not even a few weeks old. I just know my body and am fully aware of medical happenings due to my issues personally), and it's scarred me deeply in the winter of last year. I've healed quite a lot, and it rarely hurts to think back on that time, which I am fortunate for, since many have not healed. I do regret my choice more than anything - but have not let it cloud my thoughts and wants. I have decided that I want a child, as soon as my significant other is secure in his job, and I nearly finished with school. We know we want to marry eachother - I'm just waiting on him because he says "It's a mans job to ask", which if you know him, is adorable and sweet. I'm having an utterly hard time asking him if he'd be willing to consider having a child, and I know the expenses of a child, and how tough it is. I nearly raised my 4 blood related siblings, with barely any assistance due to father not wanting to assist and mother being forced to work to put food on the table when father wouldn't. My significant other always says that I'd make an amazing mommy, and I've a gift with children, as does he. How can I pick his brain to see if he even has these thoughts? His eyes, as well as mine light up when children are around - but how do I know what he's thinking if I'm so terrified to ask him? I'm ready to have a child within the next year and a half - for I always plan for a future, child or no child. And if he isn't ready for kids, we'll just wait. I'd just like some friendly advice on the matter. Yes, some of you will say "Get married first" but as my Mother who isn't married, but is in heart and soul - you don't have to be married to know you love someone deeply. I don't need a paper to prove that he or I loves eachother, we just know. Please no completely judgemental answers, I appreciate your opinions - but bashing isn't necessarily welcome unless you feel it utterly necessary. Be well to note that this baby-making process won't be until we both have stable jobs, especially him - since I'm still in college full time. Oh, and for the record - because someone will ask. I'll be 21 in Oct, and he will be 22 in Dec. He's mature also - but young and loving at heart. Thank you, Kaeda. 2 days ago - 2 days left to answer. Additional Details I've had a dog, cats, a hamster...the list could continue. I know the responsibility of a pet, I'm extremely smarter than the average 20 year old. Lol. And after my abortion - we promised that if I ever got pregnant again, that we're keeping it. I just can't help wanting it more now, than later on, you know? Definately need to be a bit more financially stable - but I've strugged my whole life financially, and I've seen it all. I'm definately a thrifty shopper and I budget extremely well, so even a bit of life struggling, wouldn't be too hard on us, because we've struggled a lot. I would adopt if I could, but adopting is extremely hard to get at my age and finanacial status. I do bbelieve that many people should adopt, and I know I will probably one day. Everyone could use help in life. =] more

Resolved Question: Need help calculating potential grade!?

Hi there, for one of my classes, I did bad on a midterm. and the class is not curved. In the class there is a total of 100 points: -Midterm Exam: 25 points -Paper: 25 points -Participation/Attendance in Discussion: 25 points -Final Exam: 25 points So I did pretty bad on the midterm =/ I got a 67.50% on the Midterm. Is it still possible for me to get an A? This is supposedly one of my easier classes, but I guess not. It is a lower division Anthropology class by the way. I'm a freshman in college. and I'm doing very well in my other classes, Bio and Chemistry. I really want/need straight A's this quarter and am striving to go to medical school, however I am doing bad in this Anthro course now because of how I did on the midterm. We have yet to turn in the paper and the final exam is next month. And I have been to all discussions and done all the assignments by the way. I just did horrible on the midterm. Someone please help me figure out if it's still possible to get an A in the course. There is no curve =/ more

Resolved Question: UNC Chapel Hill or NC State? -Which college would I have a higher chance of getting accepted to? [details]?

I'm ending my sophomore year of high school and thinking about careers and college these are two of the more difficult to get into schools I've picked out. I want to go through ROTC and double major in nursing (to start off before developing into a deeper medical field later in the military) and anthropology. I'm thinking about going into either the air force or navy, but haven't quite decided. I'm an "honors" student passing classes with like B's and C's (but I'm getting that average up by putting in more effort :)) I plan on completing my high school's scholars program and getting IB certificates . That said, which school is more likely to accept me?I'm planning on doing community service, I'm in orchestra and jazz band, as well as joining HOSA, career technical honor society more

Resolved Question: Fight of the titans: Biology vs Physics?

Here's the deal (let's try the simplified version) In medical school apps, which degree is considered harder: Physics or Biology? I really like both of them... I think a double major is too much... especially as I'm going to be a transfer student... But, I am more inspired by Physics...Bio just makes sense to me...it seems kind of so easy it's almost foolish and I'm bored by it... So, should I study something I am really interested in (as far as mechanics) or rather something I'm almost as interested in and perhaps equally proficient in...??? The thing about physics is that it is a more dynamic subject and seems to keeps my interest better---Biology takes millions of years to see any change---it's almost like anthropology... yet is the study of LIFE, itself and how it works... physics is quick, energy and matter don't wait around to make their presence known and for this reason I think it has a greater impact on our lives... But physics is also the study of life.... So, how does the study of life between Physics and Biology??? Without physics, there'd be no Bio, but we certainly don't mention the cell or DNA in physics... I know there is also BIOPHYSICS... but I'm skeptical of a study that tries to match distant cousins... without Chemistry--the close sibling... it would seem disjointed.... Since Bio is built on Chem and that on Physics, a study of Chem and Physics would give me an omniscient understanding of Bio, except for the "life" part... Would medical schools value this not value it since I am missing nothing BUT Bio??!?!! Please advise. :)) more

Voting Question: Are most psychologists idiots?

I've never believed psychology was affective, but my friend who is extremely intelligent suggested that I see her "doctor"(I realize that they are considered doctors, but me being a medical doctor has made me view doctors who don't practice medicine, anthropology, archeology, paleontology, et cetera as inferior). The psychologist is good at making me talk about things I would never talk about with anyone else. At the end of 7 sessions he concluded that my long list of sexual partners and my fear of commitment is a result of me skipping a day of school in high school and while I drove around town I saw my father exiting a hotel with his shirt off an a woman wrapped around him while my mother was dying of Huntingtons chorea. He said I idealized my father so, like him I wanted to sleep with many women; but I didn't want to be betrayed like my mother was. He also said that my risk taking i e gambling, and extreme sports comes from the many years I've feared that I was living with Huntington's before I was tested 4 years ago and discovered I am negative. Are all psychologists suffering from this level of inanity. more

Resolved Question: Is the NFL hypocritical?

This year's draft stressed character. With the Ben Roethlisberger drama, Santonio Holmes, and everything morals were more important than in past years. Somehow a person like Myron Rolle, an high honor student that left Florida State to pursue academia or more specifically an M.A. in medical anthropology. Somehow he's questioned for not loving football enough and quitting on Florida State. Doesn't make any sense. Do you agree or am I way off?@ Bad Ass (I use that lightly by the way, hope you know what lightly means), so explain the racism, would you? I mean there is none. Resolved Question: Female anthropologists: how did you conduct your fieldwork?

I will be headed to Graduate school hopefully in about two years for medical anthropology, and while the idea makes me incredibly excited, there's one thing that bothers me. No one has explained to me yet how women deal with issues like their period, shaving, etc for the often 12 months of fieldwork done for doctoral degrees and such. I know this may sound odd, but seriously, I am very curious as to how we deal with this. I've been on BC since I was 12 to control my nasty periods. Tampons are my best friend. I look like a man if I don't shave for too long, very dark body hair. I cannot imagine dealing with these while doing my fieldwork. There are seriously times I wish I was a guy :( Anyone have experience they'd like to share?Wow thanks for the imput. Very insightful. Apparantly its not just a mystery to me... more

Resolved Question: Okay what are some good ideas if Medical School does not work out?

Well I am about to enter college and I am pretty sure I want to go into the medical field so i'll take all the classes that fulfill my requirements. Not that I am not confident in my abilities but my parents say I should have I back-up just in case, and I agree that is very logical to think of. So I am asking really what are good professions or a degree to have if that's what I want, a back up? And I already know that I do not want to do business or any type of engineering. I also have an interest in Anthropology. Any ideas will help, thanks. more

Resolved Question: Does the SAT ask questions that were already learned and require prior knowledge?

I'm sorry for the bad wording of this question, but I couldn't think of a way to ask the whole question in a sentence. I know the SAT is a standardized test and I've heard that the questions that are asked are knowledge based, based on things you've already learned. So would the questions asked on the SAT's be based from things you've learned in your years of high school? In most of the standardized tests I've taken in school, most of the questions aren't knowledge based. For example, a lot of our science and social studies questions are based on reading charts, maps, and just general common sense rather than things that we have learned previously. Are most of the things on the SAT's just using general common sense and reading charts, or more specific questions that would require prior knowledge of the subject to answer? Like for example, knowing what an atom or isotope is. I ask this because I am a freshman in high school and excited for the SAT's for some reason. I am not some nerd or overachiever who is trying to graduate at the top of my class and go to an ivy league, I am just simply someone who enjoys reading and learning. I know of a lot of stuff, more than most of the people my age do. Most people don't know this about me because a lot of the stuff I know about isn't asked in school. I love many forms of science along with philosophy, psychology, anthropology, and history. I spend all day reading. I know a lot of crap especially medical-related things because my mom was a doctor and has a huge 2000 page book on different diseases. I known a large percentage of all the diseases known to man, and can identify the, cause, symptoms, and the specific pathogen that causes it. If I can read and learn of this stuff, I'm sure I can learn a lot of things required for the SAT by Senior year. Most of the stuff I am interested in you never learn in school, it at all, unless you want to take the specific course. I do know a lot of stuff though and I have decided to challenge myself to get a near perfect, if not perfect score on the SAT, which will probably be difficult, but I want to test myself. I will spend every day reading and learning different things if I have to. I am just wondering if it is something you can study for that requires prior knowledge, or something that asks more general questions like a lot of the standardized tests I have taken. So basically, can you study for the SAT, and what kind of questions does it ask? more

Resolved Question: Think this sound like a plan? Anthropology/medical?

I plan to major in anthropology, get my degree in it, do the summer digs. Live. Learn. Experience. I also plan to do the classes that medical school requires on the side. This way, I can do what I want to experience and still have the ability to get into medical school later on. Any advice for this? Oh, and I think i'll be a general doctor(want to work in the E.R., or a M.E.) but like I said later. I just would hate to not try anthropology because I do love the subject and have no problem with bad living conditions and travel, but I also recognize that its not a reliable job for income. more

Resolved Question: Do you think psychiatrists are really a poor excuse for the medical profession.....?

psychiatrists are really a poor excuse for the medical profession. do you think they should take psychiatry out of medical school and put it in the department of archeology or anthropology or with the witchcraft. do you think psychiatry is no more than witchcraft ? psychiatry is not a proven science psychiatry is not a proven science. there is no credible evidence for chemical imbalance in brain .(its a fiction). is it true psychiatrists created Scientology to suppress anti-psychiatrists ?(my grand father is a scientist in a big chemical company.he spoke against some anti psychotic drugs, they called him scientologist wtf . he never went to church in his life) more

Resolved Question: I need help! So confused and don't know what to do?

I'm currently a sophomore and a Biotechnology student. For my whole life I've wanted to study medicine. I originally was pre-med but then switched to a concentration on medical research because I don't think med school is for me (I worked in the ER, hated it). Now, I am struggling to keep up with my classmates and I'm miserable. I don't find joy in any of my classes, I just go through the motions and the stress is beginning to affect my health. My GPA is sinking lower and lower and I'm thinking I should switch my major to something a little less math/science oriented, but that is still challenging. I'm not really good at anything in particular though. These are possible majors/concentrations I am considering: journalism psychology international relations (i'm guessing this is actually a branch of poli sci) anthropology philosophy advertising/public relations I know these are kind of all over the place but I was wondering if anyone who is one of these majors has any advice or information to share? What would you recommend? I know some of these are a little bit more practical than others, too. If it's any help, I plan on attending grad school, possibly law school. But how practical is international relations in the future? and how far behind will I be in the law school process if I'm starting from stratch as a junior? (i plan on taking the intro courses over summer, i already have gen eds done and i have 72 credits even though i'm technically a sophomore) more
