I am taking an anthropology course and our first essay questions was this: Discuss the ideas about how we evolved and when it looks like we left Africa. Think about this...if at some point there were two sub species of humans on earth at one point (neanderthal and cromagnon) and earlier in our ancestry there were four to five subspecies of australopiticines, one of whic evoles into homo habilis what could be going on in Africa and are there more than one migration out of Africa. This last statement is not an easy one to think about so take your time and post your discussion succintly and briefly...and ask a question if that would help. I am sooooo confused, can anyone please help me?? moreOpen Question: What subjects do you need to take to become an Anthropologist?

I need a topic a paper for my challenge and change in society course (anthropology, psychology, & sociology). It's a gr.12 course and the topic has to be something I can write about 20 pages about. Please help! I'm having a lot of trouble and would appreciate any ideas you have. I already did something about siblings and how they influence each other and how their position in the family reflects on their personalities for my gr.11 paper so I'd rather not do it again. I'm confused about this part: Area 4 - Social and Behavior Sciences ------> At least three courses from at least two disciplines (at least 9 semester units) 4A - Anthropology and Archaeology 4B - Economics 4C - Ethnic Studies 4D - Gender Studies 4E - Geography 4F - History 4G - Interdisciplinary, Social & Behavioral Sciences 4H - Political Science, Government & Legal Institutions 4I - Psychology 4J - Sociology & Criminology So say that I take economics 100 and sociology 100, that means I just need to take another economics or sociology course, and I'll be done with this section correct? For example: economics 100 sociology 100 economics 180 Is that right? I totally confused myself after overthinking it. Thanks! moreOpen Question: What does an Anthropologist do?
I'm doing this course in school about job study and what jobs would be suiting, and when I took a test Anthropology was on it. I've done some research, but I'm still not 100% what the job really is. So, what do anthropologists do? How much schooling do they require? Dis/advantages about the job? Thank you! moreOpen Question: What does cultural anthropology cover?

both courses requires writing essays and assignments. The question is which course involves intensive writing? or both course are equvilant? moreResolved Question: 6 college courses, yay or nay?
I signed up for 6 college courses, went to all my classes and some are light workloads, some are very heavy. Principles of Economics Diversity and Criminal Justice Social Welfare Policy Intro to Cultural Anthropology Introduction to Poetry Elementary Spanish The intro classes and spanish classes will be light, the criminal justice has 4 novels to read and the social work course is EXTREMELY heavy (10 page research papers, community service, readings, several tests and other papers) and I have previously failed an Econ class before. i also work 15-20 hours a week, and am required to do 5 hours a week of community service for the semester for the social work class. and some babysitting in between. would you drop a class? moreResolved Question: Which course is more interesting, Psychology or Anthropology?
I am a pre-pharmacy student looking to register for my last social science course. As of right now, I have not registered, because I don't know which course is going to be more interesting to learn. I would appreciate if some of you can throw some knowledge on how different or similar both courses are. I am looking for a course which has more free-writing , because English is my second language, and I would like to improve. moreResolved Question: What course is harder than the other?
Marketing or Anthropology? am gonna take these 2 course this term, but am abit scared. moreResolved Question: College textbooks - Chegg vs half.com?
I love being able to rent college textbooks since I will never use them again after the course is completed but I noticed that Chegg's rental prices are only slightly lower than buying a used book from half.com. For example, an Anthropology book that I purchased over half.com was $44 shipped while it was $35 shipped from Chegg. I can resell my book for at least $30 + shipping when I am finished with my course. So really I am only going to be paying $10-$15 to use that book for the semester. Better than renting it for $35. Anybody else agree? I guess if you dont want to go thru the hassle of having to post up the books(which literally takes 3 minutes) on half.com to resell it then Chegg is the better option. moreVoting Question: I have a lot of CCC Units, is that bad?
I'm on Community college right now and hoping to transfer to UC Davis to do Biomedical Engineering. However, I originally thought I wanted to do Anthropology; therefore I took many Anthro classes ignoring math and science completely. Now I'm barely starting with math and the other required courses for admission. By the end I will have a massive total of 119 Transfer units! How bad is that? Does that mean I will be rejected? I plan to do the minor in Anthropology because it's a personal interest on mine. moreResolved Question: Has anyone else here at Y!A heard more about this evolutionary phase change predicted by....?
Russian scientists. A long time ago, Russian scientists ( who were researching remote viewing ) predicted some kind of phase change in human evolution sometime during the circa of the year 2013. Can any of you tell me what this may be? I have heard that all over the world human beings are scoring higher on I.Q. tests. Some people have made claims ( not too sure if I believe it ) that the reason why our planet is becoming warmer, is because we are moving closer to a kind of vibrational shift from the third dimension into the fourth dimension, and that we are moving closer to becoming nonphysical beings. I feel more inclined to think that humans might become more intelligent, but what do you think? The reason why I decided to post this question in this category instead of the biology or anthropology category is because of all of this ballyhooed stuff about the year 2012. The Mayans predicted that 2012 was the final year on the calendar, which of course makes me wonder about 2013.Eri: yes, I was talking about entire populations, not just individuals. I doubt anything too radical will happen.Jude: So true. moreResolved Question: Any advice entering into my grade 11 year?
I am just asking for any advice because i'm not sure what to do for a career and i can still change my courses if theirs something better for me to take. Like what the universities/ colleges want to see and just any studying or school advice in general especially because i want to study abroad, maybe even on a scholarship. Here are my courses: Art English Math Chemistry Biology Physics French Intro to Anthropology, sociology and psychology soo.... any advice would be awesome..thanks :) moreResolved Question: What university is the best of them in architecture and anthropology school?
Hey,yesterday i also aksed a question about some universities in US that are good(and not so expensive as for example Harvard) that i could go for study architecture. So i want to tell you about me and after a searching that i did i would liek to help me.I'm from Greece and i speak Greek,French and until 18 i'll have started spanish courses.I want to study or Anthropology or Architecture. In this part i'd like to tell that i have american identity too ebcause my grandpas imigrated there some tyears ago and my dad borned there. So the schools that i have in my mind(about architecture) are the Berkeley University(Univeristy of California),University of Barcelona,University of Paris...about Anthropology i've listened that Berkeley and University of Michigan have the best programs..any help?i don't really know what i have to do and what i want..What are the best architecture and anthropology universities in the world..and i mean about the not so expensive schools(not cheap but not expenisve as Harvard,Yale,Colummbia etc.)Better Europe or USA?Sorry about my english but...thanks if someone knows! moreVoting Question: What course should I take?
I'm taking a general studies program in university starting next week and I registered for a biology class and I want to drop it and take something else. I have the choices of geography, history, sociology, philosophy, anthropology I am aware that they are all in totally different subject areas. I would choose sociology since that is what I am most interested in but the class may be full. Which should I choose and why? moreResolved Question: Would it be too much to add a foreign language class on top of this schedule?
I'm a college freshman with over 40 incoming credits (which would make me technically a sophomore, I believe); but I still think my schedule is too light. I'm taking General chemistry (no lab, unfortunately), Calculus 1, Intro to Linguistics, and Anthropology, for a total of 13 credit hours, just shy of the 1 credit-hour needed for preferential status when applying for late admission to the Honors program here. Most of the beginning foreign language courses are 5 credits; would an 18-hour course load be too much for the first semester? (I already have my foreign language requirements fulfilled; I'm just interested in taking a language class). moreResolved Question: Out of the following subjects what would you choose?
What's happening is this: I'm going to study psychology but for the first year of the course you have to study psychology along with 2 other subjects. Second year is when you take full psychology. Thats just the way its done in my country. Anyway, admission to second year psychology isn't guaranteed due to professional requirements etc. I know I'll make the cut but JUST IN CASE, I'm wondering what other subjects to choose because if you don't make the cut, you have to continue with your other 2 subjects. These other subjects are a 3 year BA with masters and doctor postgrad options. So which would you choose, just for one year? Computer Science Anthropology Philosophy Economics Mathematical Studies Statistics. I only need one of these because I've already chosen Mathematical Physics. Thanks for your brain power! moreResolved Question: As someone who majored in Anthropology, do you think you would need one on an extrasolar spaceflight?
Though the term Anthropology is the study of man (Humans), would it be necessary to have a PhD (No, I only have a B.A.) in Anthropology to survey a planet if they had indigenous people (not being Homo Sapiens of course)? I mostly dealt with Evolution and New World Archaeology. Don't you think Archaeology would come in handy if the Astronauts found ruins on an extrasolar planet? ...and yes I watch too much Star Trek.I have watched Stargate. Wouldn't it be prudent to have Biological Scientists on a space flight to an extrasolar planet that we discovered life on?I know we haven't had man flight beyond the Moon. hopefully one day we'll actually visit Mars and actually leave the Solar system and head to Alpha Centauri or some other system. moreResolved Question: I don't know what to do anymore...?
Ok, i'm going into college in september and recently registered for classes. i signed up for some macroeconomics class that i'm not sure if i'm taking because i want to or i feel like it's more practical than something like anthropology or american studies. i'm a prospective english and international relations double major. i'm afraid that i need to crack down on my requirements now but i also kind of want to experiment. so, my questions: 1) Is Macroeconomics something every college student should take? 2) Would I be wasting my time if i try a course in something like anthropology, sociology, or american studies if i'm pretty sure i'm not going to major in it? 3) why is my college macro class so ridic? like final exam is worth 40%... are most colleges like this? moreResolved Question: How can I become involved with anthro/arch/history?
I'm very interested in anthropology and archaeology, but I can find nothing in my local community to get involved in. Could (or should) I try emailing professors in these areas to ask if I could assist them in any way? Any other ideas? I'm 15, so I also need to be doing things for college. I love history as well, of course, so any suggestions with that would also be helpful. Thanks, and I apologize in advance if I'm completely uninformed about how to go about this. moreResolved Question: Is first year Anthropology hard?
I'm taking an introductory course to Anthropology as one of my classes for my first year in University this fall. I don't really think there are a whole lot of courses in high school really that are targeted more towards Anthropology and to help you understand other than maybe history being a little helpful at times. I don't know a lot about it, but I am interested in it, especially archaeology. I'm taking a full year course which covers everything involving Anthropology, but just because I'm going in with little to no knowledge I was just wondering what I should expect. It's important that I keep my marks up in all my courses because of certain things. I'm just wondering what I have to look forward to and what to expect, just so I know what I'm getting into. It's not really something that I'm planning in majoring in, but I suppose I may change my mind at the end if all goes well. :) Thanks in advance for any help. moreResolved Question: General Studies for Law school or double minor?
Will a general studies degre affect a law school application. I was planning on taking a geograhy/anthropology double minor. I am in my final year, the only 3 classes lower than a B from my first 60 credits are 3 geography courses, and 3 of my remaining geography classes are the same type of courses. I would do better in other courses outside of this area, so should I change to general studies major with an anthropology minor attached? I know my double minor option has no effect on law schools compared to majors (as I have checked), but will a general studies major have a difference? It would make my timetable so much nicer for my remaining semesters as well, and this degree title does not matter as much as the Law degree is all that matters in the long run. moreResolved Question: I would like to work in Latin America, what would a BA get me?
I have made Australia my home since February this year (originally from New Zealand) and am not decided about my university studies next year. Mainly I want to work/live in South American countries (preferably Brazil, Chile, Argentina), master the Spanish and Portuguese languages and use these languages in my career. I'm interested in being a translator or diplomat and my current choice for degree is a Bachelor of Arts with two Majors, Sociology/Anthropology and International Relations. For the languages I will study them concurrently with public classes. Unfortunately the courses in my country in those topics seem to focus on Asia, of course. I'm not sure if they are gearing you up to do international relations with Asia or they are just examples you can adapt to other regions like South America. Would a BA be a good starting point in this continent? Any other wise words about the place and humanities-type careers? moreResolved Question: I want to work in South America, what would a BA get me?

Based on this criteria, what colleges/unis would you recommend? I've looked into lots of colleges myself, but I'd appreciate the perspective of someone more experienced in this area: GPA: 3.3-ish Standardized tests: I took the PLAN test, and it predicted a 26 on ACT. I haven't taken SAT yet. Course level: Mostly CP1 (standard), but I've taken a few honors classes, and I plan on taking at least one AP as well as more honors classes in the future. Extra Currics: Volleyball, tennis, environmental club, yearbook club, 9 years piano. Major: undecided, but I'm into anthropology, psychology, and sociology, if that helps! I would prefer something in the New England area. MA, VT, NY and RI would be ideal. I know the "best" college is a matter of perspective... but what is the "highest ranked" place I could go that fits my criteria? I really want the best education I can get. Thank you!*I know this is an obnoxious question. Sorry. moreResolved Question: what colleges have the best (most fun) anime clubs?

My major is Business Management and International Business. I will have my BA in anthropology/archaeology this December. I really love the subject and would have ideally liked a career as an archaeologist. However, as any archaeologist will tell you, there are very few job opportunities and the pay is generally low unless you have PhD and become a professor. I don't want to become a professor. I would like stable career, in a field with many opportunities. I would like to pursue a career as an accountant and eventually CPA. I've only taken one calculus course and one economics course while in college. Does any one know how I can get on track? Should I get a second bachelors in accounting? I was thinking of a MS in accounting but the program requires 8 prerequisite courses. Should I takes these as a non-degree student at a university or through a community college. Or would some sort of certificate be more appropriate. I would appreciate responses from others who successfully become accountants/CPAs after getting a bachelor's in an unrelated field. Thank you moreResolved Question: College Clarifications. Lots of Question, Please help.?
I am going to college next September. I am wanting a Career In animal Behavior/Primatologist/Anthropologist. And i will be getting A bachelor in Anthropology and Psychology. Now im not completely sure how college works and how its all set up (I also live in Cananda if that makes a difference. So hear are my questions: while I'm getting my bachelor can i also take other courses such as a business management course? On average how long does a 120 hour course take to complete? Are online courses harder? Can you do two bachelor programs at once? If so, is it really difficult? What is the average number a course taken in one semester? I also Have a daughter that I do not want to sacrifice by being at school 24/7, In that case would i have to stretch out my course's so that i go to school longer? If i wanted to take 2 bachelor degree programs (at the same time or not either way) and about 7 different courses, how long would it take, also taking in account of my daughter. I have marks in the high 90's in English, History, World Issues, and Philosophy. In terms of other courses, I go to an art school so I'm not counting drama and music. If I play my cards right, I should be able to swing at least an average of about 95%. I have also done extensive reading in terms of professorial publications and generalized knowledge books on my desired subject which is linguistic anthropology. What I really want to know is: Is this enough? Should I wait and take another year of high school (a completely viable option in Ontario and in no way indicative of academic laziness) over the course of which I could take AP classes and exams? What are my realistic chances of getting in? Advice would be more than welcome! (just please don't be rude!) moreResolved Question: How can a transferable course be non-transferable on the UC application?
I took Anthropology 104 in fall 2009 at LA pierce college. According to assist.org, the course is UC transferable. But when I was listing my classes in the UC application, it didn't say CCCT next to it. I know the course is transferable so why doesn't it say CCCT? It did for all the other tranferable courses. I'm applying to UC merced for spring 2011. moreResolved Question: Will my course transfer to UC?
